ON GOD man, I was just thinking that. honestly a bunch of the unnerfed characters facing off against the wacky ass current top tiers would be such a cool "what if". like I know you're specifically talking about Sonic but I swear bro.
They didn’t want to overreact like they did in Smash 4 and they realized that character’s develop slowly. Just look at Corrin, was ranked poorly on most tier lists for so long until Shadic was good. If Nintendo reacted quicker, they might have overtuned Corrin in response to the lack of play.
4:59 This moment lives in my head. The presence of mind to go for this read on the biggest stage, your tournament stock, last hit, barely surviving the previous few interactions is insane. And the way he just walks on his shield to bait the roll is so clean
@jasontravis108 ah up smash. People really consider a frame 6 oos one of the best in the game? Thats good but I feel like its not enough to be considered one of the best.
@@mochaman29frame 6 is extremely quick as an OOS option. that's faster than Cloud upB. but it's not just about speed, the fact that it's a smash attack means it's also way more threatening than most fast OOS options. if you hit his shield at 90 with an attack that's even a bit unsafe, you probably just die off the top.
Zard upb is a frame 9 oos but the super armor start at frame 4 In short, it's sometimes a pseudo-frame 4 oos if you try to frame trap with a quick attack option after a safe on shield aerial
Hi Larry, hopefully, you keep making more of these... it allows us more casual fans appreciate the little things in high level smash we wouldn't otherwise know about
I think one of the most interesting things (haven't watched the full video so idk if you comment on it) is how Leo really changed up his defensive habits not only mid-set, but mid-game. I think Poppt1 pointed it out a long time ago, something like in game 2 Leo only had I think 6 or 7 unpunished rolls, but in game 4 he had 18 or something like that. Rolling often becomes very predictable in set play especially when established early on, due to Ultimate adding roll staling, and it being relatively laggy, so the fact he was able to get away with a lot more as it went on truly highlights how good he is at identifying interactions mid-set.
It's really weird to release Steve and just a couple months later, when not even all tech of Steve was found, they said: "imma stop updating the game". Like wow. Also no pro player touched Sonic for two years, so he only got buffs and then people found out you can't beat Spindash with any move in the game, people started playing him after the patches. We really need 3 more patches to truly fix this game.
I prefer current era. The skill gaps are lot smaller and lot more players can win. Don't get me wrong I like Leo but it was low key a bit boring when he was just winning almost everything.
@@Raziel_HHL I agree with Steve and to some extent with Sonic. But luckily players have learned the matchups better and they don't seem so oppressing anymore as they used to be some time ago.
Seeing were the meta has gone to now, really wish these characters hadn't been nerfed. Joker with an arsene that lasts longer actually might fair well against Steve
It’s crazy that people still talk about smash ultimate of 2019 because it’s been a very long time since mkleo won these tournaments and we are about to enter 2025 despite the fact people said the competitive scene is getting worse with chracters like Steve during 2023.
@@justinsantos8613 agreed... for 5 years straight, Leo was nothing but net... he is the goat of ultimate for a reason... even Zero was scare of leo in smash 4
It's frustrating how they would easily and rapidly nerf characters from the early meta but the most broken one went completely untouched
Well to be fair Steves weren’t really doing anything until after all the patches had finished
Ikr I thought I was the only one who thought fox needed a nerf

Thank you for covering Leo’s old runs, I think it’s definitely something that needs to be talked about more!!
Those are some truly legendary moments. But not as legendary as the fact that we're living in the same universe as Larry Lurr.
He really walked up to Charizard's shield (who has one of the best out-of-shield options in the game) and read the roll. Thats why he's the GOAT
Zard up-special is that good?

True lol
No matter what anyone says, Game 4 Leo was the best and most enjoyable to watch era of Smash Ultimate
I prefer current era. The skill gaps are lot smaller and lot more players can win. Don't get me wrong I like Leo but it was low key a bit boring when he was just winning almost everything.
@yuomovaeh3028 that's because he was that good when he was focused and hungry to win so he could take care of his family.
@@101academics Yes I'm aware. That doesn't change the fact it's nice to see many players winning, it makes more exiting tournaments

it would be cool to go through old tournament games and get your commentary Larry, not only by Leo just in general
Hot take: Leo’s been a game 4 god since his debut in smash 4 and GTX
This was peak Leo. In his prime he was literally unstoppable

Great vid larry. More analysis’ of throwback sets plz🙏🙏 these hit

The Peach dair shouldn't have hit in the first place, they were literally side by side.
Spargo back to back P tiers is closest thing to it
NGL I think MKLEO is the best fundies player
I’d probably have to agree 👌
In smash yeah, but I just don't see his skill transferring to other fighters
It's between Leo and Sparg0 tbh, but I think it's more likely to be Leo.
@@SeriousStriker Yeah.. I think Sparg0 controls the pace of the game really well too…
i will always click on mkleo glazing, the goat stays goating
The 5 year anniversary of both these events is awesome
The real GOAT! 🐐🇲🇽 and without blocky character ❤️🔥🙌🏾
There will always be only one goat in Smash Ultimate and this video proves it 🐐
One of the greatest moments in fighting game history
Mkleo the goat. No Smash player comes even close to his dominance. He took over in Smash 4 and the dominated Smash Ultimate for most of its lifespan.
Wasn't there like a three year period where the worst result he got was 2nd?
Yeah.
Kirby is my favorite Super Smash Brothers character!
Imagine if pokemon trainer was never nerfed...
12:00 Butt-sore-ah lmao
Sick!
after sakurai release steve... mkleo is not the same (steve shit on him lol)
Why doesn't larry compete more? Pretty sure he goes toe to toe with literally any top player when he's in form right?
MKFUEGO
Yall still mad about fum? 💀
Yea but he uses one of the most carried characters in the game lol
