I’m pretty sure “onyanko” is a word play between “oyako” (mother and child or parent and child) and “nyan”. Fits because the main characters are a mama cat and her child.
That awful music is the first few bars of the “Ballet of Chicks In Their Shells” from Pictures at an Exhibition by Mussorgsky. I wonder if someone started inputting the piece intending to do the whole thing, but then after they’d worked on it for an hour the boss said “okay stop there, that’s plenty. We’re sending this into production now.”
The fishmonger is legitimately terrifying. Having all those dogs that can barely emote and the fishmonger with those hollow black eyes, give me some serious FNAF 1/2 vibes.
I think I played a bit of a ROM? vaguely reminds me of the likes of heiankyo alien or one of those maze-kinda games. haven't gone back to this one since if that says anything.

I love the art style of famicom's carts, the colors and labels
I'd definitely say that, for me, Famciom cartridges shall ( at least almost) always rein superior in terms of design compared to that of the NES.
"Michael" is one of the English names Japanese people all seem to know for whatever reason it seems.
I have always loved this game. I think it's super cute.
