I love how the movie glosses over the fact she intentionally sleeps with her dad and many other insane choices the main character makes. In a different universe, this movie would make a great psychological thriller movie. But instead we just have another addition to the pureflix catalog.
You missed the main point of the novel, which is redemption. There are a few pages about the psychological trauma the main character suffers to give some context to some of the crazy choices she makes later, but those aren't the purpose of the book. There are plenty of Hollywood movies out there to fill the genre you're referring to. I'm glad to see Hollywood didn't desecrate this story.
They didn't gloss over it. At that point in her life, they had already destroyed any humanity left in her, made her so numb to degradation that it was a small thing for her. So what you think was incomprehensiblly gross and disgusting, she called Tuesday afternoon at the office. She wanted to get back at the man who destroyed her and her mom, the only way she could. Mission accomplished. He deserved it.
It's not glossing over. She did not know that was her dad, because she did not remember what he looked like. He felt the guilt of sleeping with his daughter and killed himself.
