Oh! And the Chicago Symphony with Stokowski! I almost forgot about that. It has it all: great organ, fiery interpretation, plus incredible players. A fantastic version, to be sure.
The organ is better represented (and played amazingly) in the Leeds, but the definitive performance of the piece, IMO, is the recording by the Leningrad Philharmonic, with Mravinsky; the same group and conductor that did the premiere. The Lindley is more methodical and though very precise, the Russian group plays with more fire and vigor (like the above version). It's even (surprisingly) more moving than any other I've heard. Unfortunately, I think it was only ever released on vinyl. :(
This Armenian Philharmonic version has the fire, but with cracked notes in the higher trumpet parts and numerous tuning issues, it's a little lacking in quality.

Awake Armenians
Watch Khatchaturian...
Listen to his soul
How he moves
His symphonic cords...
