Awesome tips! I’ve been tilting too much at setup. Can you do a “Part 2” where you cover the fine points of the downswing and finish? (path, clubface, impact, release)
There are a million driver set-up videos out there. They tend to be general high-level, and subject to misinterpretation. This video is full of the details you really need, that those others are missing... Well done Carter!
Andy this is seriously a huge help. THANK YOU! I’ve been waiting for someone like you, Matt, or Pete to post something like this. Over tilt is def something I’ve struggled w/. But only w/driver or 3W off the tee. No other clubs. This was great!!!
Happy to help Ben
Follow up: practiced the tips & put them into play last weekend. Was smoking drives down the pipe w/much more consistent ball flight for the first time in a while. Game changer!
hi Andi,
This was the most useful video on driver that I’ve ever watched. That’s all the pieces of information you need to know to hit it straighter. I watched it two days ago and tried to put the pieces together on the range. went on the course today. It all worked perfect. first time ever that I hit all fairways. A massive thank you, Andy!
Thanks for braving the cold and providing us with some top notch knowledge on driver setup.
Thanks Andy for the perfect tilt set up. Works a treat😊
I’m ploughing through your vids for tips..loving this driving tip not seen this b4 on other channels..got one of our first stabs today will pop up range and give this a shot..nice and simple to follow 👌👌
Best driver shorty on the tube. Thank you, Carter.
My Pleasure Matthias
This vid is packed with gold. Thanks Carter.
Glad you liked it! Cheers Charlie
Brilliant, especially the spine tilt tip........probably my biggest flaw is the over tilt you mention! Can't wait to get out on the range / course to try this............alas, winter hasn't loosened its grip here as yet!
Brilliant tip Andy as driver is weakest part of my game and costs me 5 - 6 shots per round. I’ll try this out and see where it takes me, thank you 👍
These are very simple, but very necessary, tips. Thank you, Andy. You’re basically “giving permission” for us not to tilt to the point of absurdity.
Will pay more attention to my set up after that simple non fulueton style demo Andy.. have changed my grip and a few little things this past year that has gotten rid of the vast majority of a slice and given me a hell of a lot more confidence over narrow drives but need to work or concentrate more on the transfer of weight to gain a few extra yards... bit by bit I suppose and getting it all together on the day.. best of luck for the year 🙂
Fantastic explanation Andy, I have been topping the driver quite a bit recently, hope this will help 🤞
Thanks Andy, looking forward to trying this out tomorrow!!👍💪
Well that was interesting. Very simple ideal for me. Now off to try that out thanks Andy.
Great video Andy,a few of those points I tend to forget. Especially not swaying past the right foot.
Exactly how I set up. My problem is the turn and weight shift and timing it properly. It ends up almost all arms and say good by to distance. Thanks Andy
Thanks Andy, a timely reminder as I do tend to over tilt spine angle 👍🏻🇦🇺
Great tips Andy! The one that really clicked for me was the width of stance. I was always told "feet shoulder width apart" but not the bit about shoulder's inside of the feet, i.e., a very wide stance. I will definitely put the tips to use at my next range session.
Awesome, hope it helps David
Great video carter. I'm really trying to focus on getting set up nailed down to provide the foundation of eventually a good swing, top man, long term subscriber and slicer 😂
would love your thoughts on adapting for a "fairway finder" that we can use on narrow holes or the first tee, or when under a little pressure.
The tee before the ball is good but the tee after the ball helped me to hit up on it. This is great though!
Andy - great tip mate, why are so many instructors saying add tilt ? I saw a Rick Shiels video telling you to run your hand down to your knee, but others too ! I’ve definitely got too much tilt at the mo’ so giving your methods a go next time over the range ! Cheers, Ken 👍
That drill is soo old skool man!
most players add to much tilt.
Ball position forward head in the middle of stance will add spine titlt
Thanks for your quick tips! My life will change this season and my hcp growing to plus! But you know, drive is only for show, put (short game) instead for money.....
By the way to the theme "life changing" and "show"... You promised me a new set of blades, a Newport putter and a pair of fj classics.... I wait since days for the message from you that the package is ready. How long shall I still wait?
Have a good time! And practice short game with Matt!
Solid content Andy - well described and demonstrated as always.
Bet you're not that glad to be back in the UK with its tropical weather LOL - at least you've got the sense to wrap up properly.
Cheers
Its bloody baltic isnt it!!
Watched LIV at Mayacoba this weekend. Even the best of the best players in the field said they had to be very accurate with their drivers otherwise they would be punished right away. Havent seen more narrow fw before.
Another great video with great tips I shall try on the range tomorrow Andy. Is there a process for stopping the left heel from lifting and twisting off the ground during my back swing? I swear Elvis has nothing on me when I am using the driver!
The left heel up isn’t necessarily a bad thing. You may do it due to flexibility restrictions.
What you need to figure out is s way of doing it whilst not losing stability or balance
I deliberately don't carry a driver in the bag because i had a horrific slice with it. tee off on par 5s with a hybrid or 4 iron. this video has given me confidence to try the driver again! shouldn't have thrown it out in the house move!! (it was a package set off a mate that's about 30 years old so probably wouldn't be any good anyway!)
It's been a year ... Do you carry a driver now?
@@ryanpeyer1947afraid not! Had spinal surgery last year so not played since
Would like to hear your opinion about this. Played golf for 6 years, 9hcp. Can handle my long irons. Average 205 yds with my 3i. Titleist 981…very old i know. So thats what i tee of with. But never been able to handle the big stick. What do you think is the most forgiving driver on the market to start of with?
Usually ping are known as the most forgiving but tbh if you can hit a 3i but not a driver then theres something fundamental wrong in the technical regardless of the driver you us
@@andycartergolf Yes u r right. I sweep my 3i very clean with just a brush of the turf. As with my hybrid and fw5. Never need to tee them up.. But as soon a get a driver in my hand i just cant figure it out 🤷🏼♂️
But, watched your vid several times now, and i think i overtilt in the setup. Faaar more than your 3-4 degrees.
Never thought of the impact that has on the rotation. Will give it a go 👍🏻
@@pontuskohler3551 Failing that send me your swing and come for a lesson on skillest, at least that way the information is tailored exactly to your swing and faults
Guilty as charged, of over-tilting. Thanks for the fix.
Magic Andy 👍🏻
Good stuff AT 👏 👍
Is the start of the downswing the same as you described with the iron: pressure the lead leg into the ground? The Hideki move.
Yes absolutely
Andy. When we adjust our body tilt the club face closes to the path. Should we adjust our alignment to correct face path at impact?
I’m just feeling like I need to delay closing the face to hit it straight…. oh. Does this work best if we keep some shaft angle before hitting the ball? I mean eliminating all flippiness and really accelerating through impact even though it’s after the low point. Feeling the armpits staying closed to the body more when I do that.
Yesterday my drives hit every fairway today I started with a 20y slice then a top then a 40y slice then I left the driver in the bag so I’m going to the range tomorrow, consistency doesn’t exist with my driving but I will keep trying 👍.
Hitting every fairway is perfection not consistent.
Consistency in golf does not exist im afraid. Control does.
Great video. When you slide club forward where do you keep butt of club aiming please, belly/sternum ot? Thanks and knowing you are a red ✌️👍👍👍👍😄
Hi colin, keep the butt points at your left groin.
Thanks Andy, really been struggling with my driver. Gonna try this and hope for some improvement and consistency. By the way pleeeeeeeeeeese give me a job! Film maker, Musician and Fanatical Golfer.
Hope it helps mate.
Do you work for free?! Cos i do at the moment lol
@@andycartergolf As a matter of fact, yes! Happy to volunteer at the mo.
Do you ever get your weight on the lead side like a iron. Because i start my irons with my weight on my lead side, so with the driver should i be more 50/50? Thanks.
Yes i start 60/40 for irons
@@andycartergolfare you 50/50 with driver?
How important is putting the heel down? I tend to lose the club head on the back swing, can't hit a clean drive, except when I really concentrate on keeping the heel down, but i can smash a 3 wood every time
What do you mean by losing the clubhead?
The angle at address wouldn’t technically effect the backswing positioning so im curious to know your feels and hopefully help you with the real
I believe I have been over tilting setup based on your demonstration.
What driver you using Andy ? Many thanks
Titleist TSr 2… for now. Full fitting in March
@@andycartergolf sweet many thanks
How do you avoid tensing up? My practice swing always feels miles quicker than actual swing. It's all tension!
The actual shot means a lot more than the practice swing.
Self doubt usually creates tension.
The practice swing/pre-shot routine needs improving so you dont have self-doubt over the ball
Great tips, but what about us seniors with dodgy joints and knee replacements any advice. There are not many you tube videos for us to improve. So your mission should you accept it please can you help!.
I will upload some vids on this for sure.
So simple yet so damn hard thank god driving is my strong point it’s them wedges that kill me 😂😂😮
Off to the range I go
Andy,Andy when is the last ti me you have hit the MIDDLE of the FW?
The very middle? About 2007 😝😂
👍👌
