A piece of advice: correct overstock mistakes right away. Donate those beans! Get them to someone who will use them and you’ll have more space to store what you actually need. Same thing for the olive oil and nuts. I know it’s a chunk of money but better to do it now so they don’t just end up spoiled.

I looked at those freezer alarms, a month and a half ago, but did not get them then! But now I do have them, they work well, mine are set to a max of 32 degrees, you can hear them from anywhere in the house!

I’m in San Antonio, Tx and we eat a lot of breakfast tacos particularly potato egg and refried bean and cheese in a flour tortilla with salsa. They’re great for breakfast or dinner. Refried bean and taco meat chalupas are great too. They go over well at parties are are cheap to make. Just messy to eat.

Growing up on an almond orchard, we had large amounts of nuts too. My mom always kept them in zip locks in the freezer and they stayed good forever. In fact when my parents moved to assisted living 2 years ago, they had a bunch of frozen pecans and walnuts in the freezer. Lord know how old they were, but they still tasted great!

We have one and we love it. It’s easy to clean, the filters last a long time. The water tastes SO GOOD out of it too! Better then bottled water or from the fridge filter. We use significantly less bottled water now. I use Berkey water for everything. My 7yo keeps it full for us but adding pitchers of water to it - showing how easy it is to keep full and fill up.

Loved the pantry tour, great organization. The only thing I would suggest is to not have paper products or cardboard items directly on the floor in case of a random flooding situation of ANY kind.
When I was a kid our backyard sloped down on one side and we had a walk out basement. My dad put cement steps from the patio down to the basement door but the drainage was not sufficient and our basement flooded 3 inches of water.
A few years ago (as an adult) I had a pipe leak behind a wall in the basement and a large area of ceiling, wall and floor (carpet) got very wet. I have also heard of hot water heaters leaking. Just some cautious thoughts.

That way when we are on the run, or one child needs to eat quickly and I haven't made anything we have an easy lunch or dinner. It saves us alot on not eating out, because it's quick and easy when you need something. Thought I would share.

Just a piece of advice that I just learned myself. When you open those big cans of refried beans put what you don't use right away into meal size freezer bags and freeze them. That way it doesn't go bad and you have several different meals with them. Also I bulk up my ground beef with refried beans and other shredded up vegetables, it adds nutrients to the meal and no one except you know it's in there. It makes the meal more filling and way more nutritious.

You can make beef & bean burritos with some of 1 can. Just recan the rest into smaller jars by either waterbath or pressure canning. Good idea to date each container of everything, so you'll know which to use first. FIFO method. I date everything I bring in from the store before I forget the date, this way I know when I bought it. Many things last a lot longer than those dates on the can or label. Sugar, salt, honey, maple syrup among many others last forever regardless of dates stamped. As for the oil, you can use the expired ones for emergency candles or in an oil lamp. Don't toss anything until you research others ways to use them...just a suggestion.

We are a family of 6. I was going through cases of bottled water. I invested in a Berky and bought the kids reusable water bottles, and I won’t go back. Sure we keep a few cases when we go on trips just to have on hand. But I feel good about the empty plastic bottles not going back into the environment. So it’s definitely a win win. Win for my pocket book and win for the environment. I enjoyed your tour of storage food. I think this day and age it’s good to have extra on hand especially when you have a bigger family.

A FEW SUGGESTIONS***syrup will last the longest for you and has an indefinite shelf life ive been told. So we stocked up on this. i recommend buying in bulk organic costco flour( sell it at 28thstreet costco) We do it for our family and its such a huge saving. 2 -10lb bags will fill 1 food grade bucket. but you want to buy bucket plastic liners bags for it. We usually buy about 120lbs a flour for our family of 5. We also stock up on their large bags of rice and buy loose dry beans. This has allowed us to not have to keep so many canned beans etc. That might be an option for you as well. We use orgain protein powder. Save your orgain plastic jars when you are done and they work great for refilling with bulk oats, bulk can sugar or bulk brown sugar from costco too. I label mine with those markers for overhead projectors that you can wipe off with water. it works great. This works for bucket labels too! :) great pantry stock up :)

We originally bought it because we had well water and it tasted funky but we have city water now and we still use it. It’s an awesome thing in times of trouble or to keep from buying bottled water. You can use the refried beans for a bean dip for potlucks and such. Then freeze the rest. I believe you can dehydrate them too, and then process it in a food processor to add dried refried beans to tacos, chili's, etc. :)
    Bean dip:
2 1 Lb cans of refried beans
    1 pack taco seasoning
2 1 Lb cans of Rotel or salsa
    16 oz sour cream
    8 oz cheese
    1 can black olives.
Mix most of the taco seasoning with the beans. Save a little to sprinkle on top. Beans layer first. Then layer Rotel or salsa, sour cream, and cheese. Drain olives, and lay on top of cheese. Then sprinkle remaining taco seasoning. Super delish. Goes great at all the potlucks. :)

I’d like to kindly suggest using your Sharpie and marking expiration dates, and date purchased. Some cans aren’t marked clearly, and some containers don’t have a date. I always store the oldest in front and the youngest in the back. I challenge myself to make something from the pantry two to four times a month. Always rotate your pantry before that expiration date. If you’re worried about the olive oil get a basket for someone’s birthday, Christmas or whatever and gift a bottle of oil, some pasta, sauce, a bottle of wine some crusty bread and flowers. Ive done this several times and people appreciate the creative gift.

Hi just recently started watching your channel. I love it!♥️👏👍🏼 A tip for you, freezing your nuts adds a huge shelf life. I've frozen some nuts for at least 3 years or longer. I bake a lot so not sure how long they will last because I use them up by 3 years. Make sure you wrap them well in plastic wrap and then put them in freezer bags. They taste as fresh as when you first purchased them. Hope this is helpful.😊♥️

FDA says canned items will store in 40-70 degree cool dark place almost indefinitely. Almost as long as a grain in glass or a mylar bag. Open beans use some make burritos and freeze. Place nuts in mason jars use foodsaver or vacuum bags and freeze. Yes can homemade soup. Tuna in cans have more than pouches. Make beans in different ways until the kids get used to them. Why freeze jelly or jam if canned? They last forever. Omg Love my Berkey. A must have.

The refried beans can be opened and recanned in smaller jars! So definitely not a waste! I'd have purchased them too and all my munchkins are grown and moved now. I'd still have purchased them at a buck each😊

PLEASE take your extra beans, olive oil, and nuts to the soup kitchen. Don't let it go bad. You know, if you want to get some of the beans into your kids you could mix a couple table spoons into their ravioli or soup, even burgers and meatloaf would hide a nice amount. Anyway, I am so envious! How I wish I had the space to stock up like that. You are a great homemaker!

We got a burkey at the beginning of covid when we could not find water at the store. We totally don’t regret buying one. We have the three gallon and we fill it up about every day and a half. Right now we are a family of four soon to be five. I would get the big one for your family and or put different kids on burkey duty. We just keep a gallon jug behind ours. If you get a smaller one the. You will just have to fill it more often which really isn’t that big a deal. I would also buy extra filters. We are using the four black and the four white filters. We also have some extra filters.

You have a good set-up and look to be pretty organized. I'd move the nuts to the freezer, add some spices and continue to rotate through the can goods, keeping 6+ months worth. Your #10 cans aren't a fail, open as needed, freeze the extra portions and replace with smaller cans. Know what you'd do in case of power outage or storm. Have a couple ways to cook, stay warm and keep your family safe. You're doing better than most of my friends.

I wonder if it would work to dehydrate some of those refried beans ro make instant refried bean flakes? Something that's pretty yummy is to spread a tortilla with a layer of refried beans, a layer of salsa, then a layer of shredded cheese, bake or microwave until hot and cheese melts, then top with your favorite taco toppings-sour cream, shredded lettuce, chopped tomato and onion, sliced black Olives are my go-to's. If your kids would eat them like that you might go through the big can before it goes bad! Also mix with taco meat to make the bottom layer of a 7 layer taco dip that's another kid friendly dish and a good one for parties! I also wonder if you could freeze the rest of the can in more manageable portions once you open one. I would have totally bought those for that price! Lol.

Okay maybe you will see this.
    1. The refried beans you can open put in quart freezer bags and freeze.
    2. You can actually recan the beans and give them a longer shelf life.
    3. If you have a local shelter, church, etc that makes meals for the needy the extra stuff that you are sure will go bad before you can use, let them have it.
    4. Make a dish for like a potluck dinner at your church.
    5. Freeze the nuts or donate!!
    6. Find a homeless camp and just offer extra to them, it will be so welcomed!

A little FYI if you’ll FREEZE your nuts they won’t go rancid. Keep them frozen until you use them or when or if the grid goes down then you can use them faster if the power is out and supply chain is down. I freeze mine and keep opened bags in the fridge. Hope this helps...love your channel! 🙏🏼❤️Leslie in Alabama

Blend those beans and secretly get them into soups and stews, chilli, tomato dishes. They will never know, and will probably actually like them. Nuts - make some granola and muesli to use some up, make some oat & nut bars for snacks. Grind some nuts up and get them into other meals, curries etc. No bargains are a mistake, you just need to get creative.
Can also shove nuts in the freezer, and portion some of those beans up and freeze those into small portions too.

Watching food storage vids well any you can get some real good ideas. I still like to stock on somethings we are empty nesters now. But I do have 4 grandkids 3 daughters. 2 grandkids come in the morning before school. I agree with the oil and the retried beans lol. But you could donate them to a food bank or soup kitchen. I now put expiration dates on top of the cans any packaging where I can see it up front. Even a package of cold meat in the fridge I put the date right up front even on the eggs. I like the 6 bean mix open tin rinse add to chilli conquer or anything your adding beans. Better then just one kind.

Anything that you don't want or don't think you are going to use up in time donate it or give it to family and friends. It does suck because money but that way it doesn't go to waste. Loved the video. I have a working pantry and we try to only get things we eat that way we are using it and then replacing it that way nothing goes to waste.

The best use for those refried beans is by making a 5 layer bean dish for dinner, game night or. Birthday, make in a large (9x13 or bigger?) cake dish or use your aluminum lasagna pans.

For the beans I buy that size can you make bean and cheese burritos. Then I individually wrap them and put them in the freezer and the kids pop them in the oven. You can also premade Mexican pizza bottoms and freeze and then later add the topping.

You didn't address your rotation schedule, but as you are extremely organized I'm sure you have it under control.
Two things in regards to pests:
In addition to your food products make sure to check & rotate your paper products because if rodents get in, they love to nest in that stuff.
Second, grain beetles. I kept finding them in my apartment. I didn't realize I had one chocolate coated protein bar in my teaching backpack. The bar was there since March 2020 when I last taught. Those strawberry seed sized beetles ate through the water resistant canvas, the foil wrapper to get to that chocolate. Since finding the remains of the bar in Dec 2021 I haven't had any further problems & I really hope it stays that way!

Hi. Just found you and enjoy your vlogs. Someone else might have mentioned this already but baking mixes that lace baking powder and or baking soda don’t have a long shelf life. Use them before they expire. Or, if you find one that is past it’s Best by date add a teaspoon of baking powder when you do use is. Also, repackage the nuts and freeze them and they will last much longer. Mostly walnuts and pecans go off but in the freezer they will last longer. And, if you have done that are tasting a bit stale, toast them in the oven. By the way, my daughter and family live in Kalamazoo County. Are you near there? Good luck with he new baby. 🙏🏻

On storing flour's, rice, bread, place Bay Leaves on top to keep bugs out and to help prevent egg's hatching. Get absorbed packs inside also. Food is a investment to life and it's not something to not keep safe. Never give food away or help others we don't take trips, camping, buy toys, you understand the people who are and when stuff hits the fan they come to you say no sorry. I can't find storage for any more TP but the company is having a hard time on stuff to make it ya. So I have been buying TP tablets yes I even keep in the car with a water bottle. With first aid.

Straight up...the 5x tubs of refried beans is most definitely an end of the world stash. That should be what you got it for even if you are the only one that likes it because for a buck each, you got a lot of stock of it at such low cost that is going to go a long way in that time frame somewhere in the future. I'd say that was a great haul there.
