PANTRY TOUR OF MY FOOD STORAGE TO FEED OUR BiG FAMILY 😉🥰

  • Here is a tour of my pantry, where I store all of the food to make those wonderful dinners that we share with you. I also store all of my canning supplies and food that I have canned from our garden that we have every single summer. This past year was a little rough, but I’m hoping that this year is better because I would like to can way more foods in a different variety of things also.
I’m very thankful for my boys who built the wooden shelves 10 years ago, then my husband is slowly added on and my metal shelf where my husband and Joshua built me just I think maybe a year or two ago. This past summer I built four more of those shelves to put our snacks and more ingredients for a weekly menu. I also had to build a shelf for all of my spices and my overflow of canned goods and then I really love TJ Maxx and Marshalls and I found so many super cool items to build onto my charcuterie boards that we make throughout the year.
And then this last shelf that my son Noah built me to house a lot of my storage containers that have my holiday decorations and then things when my kids were little. I just have a hard time throwing things away and I have so many memories of my kids when they were little that I’m just not ready to get rid of it yet. But it really did give me way more space to add more bands, and to make it more organized.
I think the only thing I need to do is my husband needs to add more lighting for me because it is just so dark down there but I absolutely love so far what we have done. I have one more side to do but I can only do so much, so I’m just taking it a little at a time but it does look great. And I’m very thankful again that my boys take care of this mom and help me out whenever I need something done or something made. Right now my son Noah is making me an old fashion coat rack and he’s making some other things for me to add to the entryway to organize things a little better and open up the spaces so it’s not so cluttered with shoes and coats.

I get a lot of nasty comments from friends and family when they see my pantry. I keep it well stocked as well and when I use something I replace it. My Grandmother instilled in me the reasons to keep a well stocked pantry and always said a well stocked pantry is like money in the bank. Heather, thank you for giving us a peek at yours ❤️

Don't let them see your food and if it comes down to it, show them out the front door. Just tell them you don't allow negativity in your home. I honestly think they're all jealous cuz they don't have theirs stocked up. Draw the line and stick to it.

I've heard of that saying and really it's kinda true. Why in the world would people give you so much grief over that. That just doesn't make sense. You would think they would become aware of how important it is and should start one of their own. Id be wil!ing to bet if something bad happened and they couldn't get food they would be knocking on your door to be sharing your pantry yoh know the very one they gave you grief over

Mama Bell , You have a beautiful pantry! Here's a little tip for you. When you go to dollar tree pick up the little L.E.D puck lights they use batteries so when you need light it's perfect for your pantry shelfs. They also have a sticky side with tape or they have ones with magnets they work great😊👍💥✨️

    For thicker spaghetti sauce:
I use tomatoe paste to add richness and thickens,
    and
More of the canned crushed tomatoes in place of the all the tomato sauce (use way less of the sauce).
    And
    petite cut canned tomatoes too.

The extra jars are good when the kids have their own homes. So they can keep canning for their families. Just have them remove the jar rings.

  • @tamaraliscia3408

What a good pantry! Having both home canned and commercially canned or packaged is a wise idea. I like the containers Heather uses for flours and sugars.
Dry stuffing mix can be ground up (food processor) and used for breading. It can also be crushed a bit and used on top of casseroles, in meatloaf or in meatballs. You can make the stuffing mix and use for a savory pie crust. You bought a lot but it will go quickly with your family!
Red sauce from home grown tomatoes needs to cook down to thicken. I start ours on the stove and transfer it to the oven for a few hours. The roasted sauce is so good. Sorry ... a slow cooker or instant pot doesn't produce the same result.
We always do a pantry/freezer challenge in January and now it's about time to shop again.

A quick way to have thick sauce is to skim off the tomatoe juice (and possibly can it) it will save you hours on the stove waiting to steam off the excess liquid...

Love your pantry, but was wondering. You keep bone broth in a different spot from other broth.
Also mustard in different spaces. I like to keep all like things close together. And I am pretty sure that the little jar with handle is German mustard. We always have that. Great with sausages. And makes a nice little drinking glass.
Also, do you rotate your items? I am always moving old items to the front, and restock in the back.

I make turkey meatballs and meatloaf and burgers most often. I put stuffing in all of them. My fave way to add it is put it in my bowl, add water til it’s ALL moist then add the ground turkey. Keeps me from scratching up my hands on the dry stuffing too. Hubs didn’t care for it the first time but the second time on, he prefers ground turkey over beef loaf and burgers.

Here’s an idea for all the stuffing.
My mom’s stuffing is a meal in itself. I never liked stuffing (always thought it was dry) until my mom started making it.
Here’s her recipe. It’s rough because I was just writing things down as she was throwing everything in the pan (years ago).
    Enjoy!!
    Nicole ~ 🙂
1 - Sauté celery and onion in 2 sticks of butter
2 - Add Cream of Chicken Soup
3 - Add Broth, Soy Sauce, Chicken, Stove Top
4 - Add rest of stuff
    Ingredients
    Butter - 2 sticks
    Celery
    Onion
    Stove Top - 3 boxes
    Sage onion Breadcrumbs
    Poultry Seasoning - 1/2 tsp
    Chicken Broth - 2 boxes (8c ?)
Cream of Chicken Soup - 2 cans
    Rotisserie Chicken (half)
    Soy Sauce - 3 tsp

Follow that 1870’s homestead. Rachel and Todd have some great tomato based products that they make. They also make several condiments as well.
    Love your pantry.

PLEASE READ!!!! For the stuffing. Coat pork chops or chicken breast in real mayonnaise. Then coat in crushed up stuffing mix with garlic and sage. Or whatever seasoning you prefer added. Then pan fry, air fry, or bake!!! I also cut up potatoes and coat in mayo and the stuffing mix and bake as a side. Our family of 7 loves this meal!!!

Hot pot dry beans in 30 min! Cheaper and more nutritious than canned 😉

To make your tomato sauce thicker you just have to slow cook it for a long time to reduce the moisture content or you could always add tomato paste

After you cook your tomatoes until they are very soft, you need to use a mill and press the tomatoes through it leaving behind the skin and seeds. Put the sauce back into your pot and cook it down until it is reduced by about half. At this point you will can or freeze the sauce in quart amounts. When you want to make spaghetti sauce, add your seasoning to the tomato sauce and cook it until your desired thickness.

You can use cornstarch or arrowroot powder for thickening. Some people dehydrate the tomatoe skins and use then for thickening.

I saw a recipe using the stuffing mix in puff pastry to make a vegetarian sausage roll, might be interesting.

Tomato paste - after cooking down you spread it into a jelly roll pan or large glass pans and bake in the oven on low for a few hours till all the moisture cooks out. Stir on occasion. You can do the same for sauce to thicken.
