  • Troedrhiwfuwch was a small, bust bustling Village situated in the South Wales Valleys, UK. It was once a thriving mining village with over 600 residents. During the early part of the 1980's, a survey was carried out on the mountain that over looked the village, the survey revealed the mountain had started to move, in the wake of the Aberfan Disaster, the decision was made that for their own safety, the village residents would have to vacate and their homes would be demolished. To this day, there has not been any landslides from the adjacent mountain.
Although the village has since long gone, The community spirit of its past residents still stands strong. This is just some of their stories.

Thank you a very moving and clearly spoken video my thanks to all who were interviewed - I felt warmly wrapped in a big cwtch which captured the past and brought a lump to my throat - reminded me of my early days I am 82 and still thanking God for each new day xxx

So what happened to the village? No explanation in the video. Earthquake? Fire? Glacier?

Completely demolished except for the post office (now a private house) and one house on the hillside near where the school stood

Thanks for commenting Mike, Troedy is in-between Pontlottyn and New Tredegar. If you’re heading out of Pontlottyn on the A469, towards New Tredegar, the war memorial will be on your left hand side , the memorial garden is next to it, Blink and you’ll miss it. It’s next to a large cow shed. Hope that helps.
