The Jets GM worked under Howie Roseman and Ozzie Newsome, both of whom won superbowls with the QB who ended up being the predecessor to the franchise guy. Newsome with Flacco and Roseman with Wentz/Foles. The Jets can win enough with Wilson that the GM will be in place to draft his successor. And maybe Wilson even works out along the way. The jets are 6-3 with a crazy young and talented roster. This GM bought himself a lot of time and will be able to draft another QB if Wilson doesn't work out, because the rest of the team was built so well.
I would like to hear you do a Balls Deep episode on past and possibly present players that are a super bowl jinx. Like Randy Moss with the 49ers and Pats, Wes Welker with the Pats and Broncos, Ricky Prowl with the Panthers and Rams. Im sure there are more I can't think of.
he honestly is just making a some bad decisions, all of those picks were toss ups on the run near the sideline. If he starts being more careful with the football he will be a fine quarterback.
I obviously don’t know but it really looks like a confidence/focus. He gets rushed and doesn’t think. He has to focus and really take the game seriously so in the games the decisions are easier, he’s used to making the right one
You’re probably the most likable guy on RUclips who covers football. And that’s saying a lot because there’s a ton of super likable youtubers with football content
Given the track record of Jets QBs since 2000, no, I wouldn't say bust. A bust to me implies no competence whatso ever on the field. Much like Mac Jones of my New England Patriots, it's obvious those two desperately need an OC that can work with their strengths, kind of like how the Bears finally figured out how to work with Justin Fields strengths. Zach Wilson is inconsistent and needs the mistakes he keeps making over and over again exorcised out of him, but at the same time, those Jets look like they got something could potentially get better with time and investment. They do not look like the flaming dumpster fire they've been in the past. Right now, and this will probably get people mad at me, they're parallel to the Atlanta Falcons, in that technically both are doing a lot better than most people believe they have any right to be. If anyone of the 2021 QB draft class is looking like a bust, It's Trey Lance (Not entirely his fault due to injury) and Trevor Lawrence is looking more and more like what he needed most was a Veteran QB to observe for a season or two in Duvall before handing him the reigns.
Justin Fields still hasn’t figured it out though he’s went form atrocious to not good, below average. Fields still has a ton of growing to do in the pass game.
My observations as a Jets fan: Every time he scrambles, he keeps his eyes downfield trying to find someone to throw to even when he should definitely just run forward. It was easy to see the disparity last week with Zach running around and chucking it out of bounds repeatedly, while Mac "slow motion" Jones ran for a first down several times. He throws the ball way too hard on short passes. I think (and I know this is not easy to do as an NFL QB) he needs to relax a little and take a little off of his throws. The previous few weeks he was being too conservative, and I think against New England he tried too hard to make up for it. He needs to find a happy medium. I still think it's possible. The team is surrounding him with talent and is trying to give him stability. But I'm a Jets fan so I never expect anything good to happen.
wilson needs to be able to just stay calm and just stop trying to be a hero. the best way to be good is to do less. wilson should've been running the ball and getting gains instead of throwing on most of those interceptions. it's absurd to still say this, but wilson needs to get it through his head. thats the only way he's gonna get better.
Going back through some of the TGS archives. With the Jets picking up Rodgers, it will be interesting to see how this video ages. Is Rodgers' success a byproduct of being in a pretty easy NFC North Division, or is he truly a great quarterback? I know it's not the same Jets team, but let's not forget that Farve went from a team that was 13-3-0 in 2007 (Packers, NFC North), to a team that ended up 9-7-0 (Jets, AFC East), then back to a team that went 12-4-0 in 2009 (Vikings, NFC North).
I always say, you gotta give a QB at least 3 years to see if they are a bust or not. As a bills fan it wasn’t till year 3 that Josh was firing on all cylinders for us, as well as Tua for the dolphins. I think he could be a pretty damn good qb if he works on his mechanics in the off-season, like Josh did in his second off-season.
But that’s also not true. Because Allen at the end of his second year looked like he had shown genuine improvement, something that Wilson hasn’t shown. The josh Allen comps are such cookies when you’re qb is bad and hasn’t shown improvement. The QB to look for improvement in his 3rd year is fields, as he actually looks like he is improving unlike Wilson
Except Allen had ungodly arm strength and athleticism coming out of college and his first 2 seasons. He was abysmal his rookie year but by the end of year 2 it was obvious he made real strides in his game. Wilson has poor arm strength and decent athleticism but nothing that makes up for his mental mistakes, and Wilson hasn’t shown much improvement thus far
With some I would be willing like Tua or Hurts right now. Just don't see that with Wilson. As at least Hurts and Tua were playing average QB their first two seasons in the league. Wilson on the other hand isn't even playing at an average level he's playing as one of the worst QB's in the NFL. Right now he's averaging 200ypg only completing 54% of his passes and has 3TD to 5INT. At least with someone like Tua last season he was completing like 70% of his passes and not making a bunch of bad mistakes. Despite being behind the worst line in football.
@@wisewolftony Tua was benched for Bridgewater in y2 and everyone was calling him a bust. All the eagles fans were calling hurts a bust too. I swear people just make shit up that was never true at the time to make it seem like they know everything
Wilson has some arm talent and good footwork but is slow to read the defense and make adjustments. When he makes the correct read he completes passes but that's a 50/50 probability. His completion percentage isn't going to get the job done for the Jets.
Man's played 18 games and we're already calling him a bust. He hasn't been impressive, but it's still too soon to say one way or the other yet. But I'm a Jets fan, so I'm probably just coping.
The Jets are 5-1 with Zach Wilson this year and he keeps making clutch throws when it counts. You can call him a “bust” if you want, but he’s looking pretty good from where I sit.
I still have a hard time deciding whether the Jets fail at QB scouting or fail their QBs at the pro level. Seeing Geno Smith's season thus far, for instance, makes me second guess the notion that they just always draft QBs destined to be terrible
I really do think Genos success is more of a Pete carrol thing . Sitting behind russel Wilson and learning the play book for the last couple years does wonders. Starting people there first year in the league and expecting too much is what the jets failed him with .
Jets have had too much turnover at coaching and qb to have a stable environment to develop a QB. That plus NY fans wanting to run every QB out of town after 1 year.
I'm a Seahawks fan from Brazil and discovered this channel thanks to Russell Wilson stinking up the place in Denver and now I watch every single video. Let's Ride!
I’m a jets fan but I’m also an Utah alum and fan. I remember in 2019 when we played BYU (it’s a huge rivalry) and I remember thinking Zach had potential.
One Reason he was so good his Junior year is BYU didn't really have a ton of covid protocols which differed from a lot of schools because they aren't in a conference. They got a ton of practice and prep that wasn't afforded to other teams. Their First game that season was against a Navy team that hadn't practiced once since the last season. For teams like BYU that don't have Blue chip recruits, what was essentially an extra year of development helped them exponentially. He's got talent, but He was someone who needed to be a day 2-3 pick and given time to develop instead of being thrust into what is one of the perennially worst teams in the NFL.
@@chrisn3834 yeah the Jets have been improving the rest of their team and giving him plenty to work with. I agree, Zach would’ve been terrible on any team. You really gotta watch the kid play to know how trash he really is.
@@chrisn3834 I get reading is hard for you, so I'll dumb it down a bit. The Jets are 27th in all time Winning percentage. Never did I say they were the worst,in fact this season they've been surprisingly good due to a defense full of dogs and Breece Hall, but over the last 8 years or so so the Jets have ranged from mediocre to dogtits bad. Perennially means consistency over an extended period of time. I'd say, prior to this season, having your last season over .500 be 2015 means perennially bad. And I guarantee I've watched more Zach Wilson games than you have because I watched him since HS. Absolute rocket of an arm, not great at snap decisions.
As a HUGE Jet Fan, I still say we gave up way too early on Geno I was on him from Day 1 and we really messed up not taking Justin Fields over this BUST
Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa, Jalen Hurts, and now Geno Smith have all proven that you never know if/when a QB could pop. It could take 1 year or 10. Jameis Winston, Sam Darnold, Taysom Hill, Baker Mayfield, Mitch Trubisky, Carson Wentz, Taylor Heinicke, Mason Rudolph, and even Jacoby Brisette have all shown flashes of brilliance at various points, and all still have legit chances of being good QBs later their careers. Trevor Lawrence, Zack Wilson, Trey Lance, Jordan Love and Justin Fields are obviously too young for anyone to even discuss the just label. Never give up.
It’s still early to say, he’s got a big arm and good mobility, but his decision making, awareness, and touch could use a lot of work. He got kind of exposed in college games against teams with NFL caliber defensive players and he still gets really panicky. It’s a rare player in the pros who can reliably run around and improvise plays without racking up turnovers and they usually have stellar teams around them like Mahomes or Russ before he turned into a pumpkin. Even Josh Allen took time to develop that ability and he’s a much more freakishly athletic dude than Z Wilson
None of those other players had to deal with a front office like the Just End The Seasons. For some reason the jets admiralty seem to think that the best way to stop the QB from getting sacked too much is to draft better receivers, not offensive linemen and running backs.
I'm a Patriots fan. Guys. How you gonna throw in the towel on Wilson after ONE GAME? I don't even like the kid but look at your record!! You guys are actually winning for once lol
I think the issue too is that a lot of these young QBs have bad coaches developing them. Pretty sure if they had someone like Sean Payton it would be different
Hate that the modern NFL is so quick to move on from QBs now. If you can't pick it up in the first 2 or three years, you're a bust and get sent to backup hell. Know who took a few years to put it all together? Drew Brees. He didn't put it together until his 4th year in San Diego and retired holding every NFL record. Today he would probably be moved on from and never have a chance. Really think QBs need to stop being forced into starting their rookie years and be given a bit more time. Remember the Jets could have kept Darnold and thrown him out there to get beat up on a really bad Jets team.
When i watch them play, i see the talent. He has a really nice arm, decent mobility. Just can’t make the right decisions. Theoretically that’s the most coachable thing, but we’ve seen plenty of qbs not make it work
I feel like bust should be a term saved for washouts like Manziel and JaMarcus Russell. Wilson will be a fine back up borderline starter. Sucks he's probably not the guy the Jets thought he was but he's still a good player. Better than all of us couch jockeys.
2030 Seahawks Pro Bowl QB Zach Wilson just needed more seasoning as a backup for several years, perfecting his craft, and eventually being able to grow facial hair.
I have two categories for that QB class - 1.) potentially okay, and 2.) Potentially bust. 1.) Lawrence, Fields, Jones 2.) Wilson, Lance I don’t think any of them at this point can be considered franchise QBs… but, maybe they can pull it together.
I hate calling a player a bust without seeing them in different system first. So many young QB's/players get flushed by terrible programs (i.e. Geno Smith).
This is why I hate it when people knock on "game manager" type qb's. Yeah, they don't usually get you the big highlight plays but they're smart w/ the football and don't make stupid mistakes. So if the rest of the team is in point, you're going to win a lot of games.
I see a lot of Bust remarks for T Law too, but honestly I think he needs better receivers and to work the Urban Myer out of his syndrome. Dude is coming off a year "Learning" from the worst head coach in NFL history, and his best wide receiver is what? Christian Kirk? Yes, he's made a lot of mistakes and cost the Jags games, but I still think he personally has the most potential to turn things around if the Jags actually build around him and give him reliable targets.
This is gonna be stupid becasue this isn't a baseball channel but Barry Bonds was the wrong pick for that comparrison. He was one of the best players in baseball and could hit for power before steroids. Brady Anderson would be a good option for this but feels like hardly anyone will remeber who that is. And yes this all feels very pedantic lol
Absolutely agree. I think he just needs a little more time. Not to turn into a great QB or anything, I just think this team needs to spend more time with this player in order to figure out if he makes sense or not. Spoilers: he probably doesn't. I just think we would have seen "it" by now.
I cannot get enough of this content. Now all I need is you to become a Giants fan and just cover the Giants most of your videos and I'm good on all football entertainment except entertainah
That Bustin' Fields episode may be one of the worst I have ever seen and made me question what the f*ck does this guy actually know? I think the video has been voluntarily removed. What a d-bag Bronco Homer.
@@TheMarijuanaTrench What does anybody know??? Justin might be a bust, you won't know for a couple years. I hope Justin works out, I really do. He's from my alma mater. I keep track of all the OSU guys, McLaurin, Olave, Michael Thomas, Garrett Wilson, the Bosa brothers, Noah Brown, etc. If Justin is a star in the NFL he will be the first QB from Ohio State (except for maybe Schlister) to make it big!
Just wanna say Bonds had power before the juicing. He regularly hit 30-40+ HRs a season and won 3 MVPs, a shoe in HOF career, before he got hurt and started juicing (around '99)
Also time for people to quit looking too much in QB stats and performances at the college level to determine their pro potential at the NFL. These are completely different environments, most apparent for QB's. In the NFL it's all about the player's mental state and landing spot over physical performances and in a league that has more parity than the average division 1 college of these top prospects face. ''Any given Sunday'' isn't something one could really see with these elite colleges. Some of the biggest busts could dominate college strictly based on their physical tools, but failed miserably when they were required to put in effort in the NFL. For the development of these players in the NFL it would also help, if the leagues quits overvaluing the position. Almost no QB in their rookie season is the difference between poverty and elite on most of these teams and they are for the most part certainly not ''a QB away''. The QB is important, yes, but not the only important one in the team. Yet a ton of teams with an extreme amount of holes in their roster and not the coaching staff to develop them pick one at the top end of first. And of course to throw them into the fire under the bus from day 1 with all risks of them failing. When to start a rookie QB for the first time is much like soft tissue injuries: bring in a player too early and it can aggravate the situation inmensely. One would be surprised how many elite and other relatively safe starters in the NFL were either drafted mid/late first or later and/or were not a day 1 starter for their teams, including the fact that both their teams traded up a lot for Allen and Mahomes: their teams were much better than the player's draft slot. Whil;e a ton so called much better prospects from the top end of the first either completely bust out of the league or are extremely underwhelming.
Wilson is worse than any young QB right now when I watch the tape. Terrible mechanics, doesn't set his feet, throws into traffic. If Trevor Lawrence was on the Jets I bet they'd have more wins. That's saying something because they've both been bad.
Not if he's winning. Even if he's not great he's good enough to QB a team winning games, bust talk will be later maybe, but if they keep competing no way.
Brandon, Can you please do a video on how football players can fall in love with one another? This story needs to be told! 😂❤️ I love your videos! You are the man for the job!
Before even watching the video. Because Perna might cover some of it, before I finish typing. They've done nothing but build around him since drafting him. He was a massive overreach that the media fell in love with. The only defense he has is all of the injuries to his supporting cast this year. Despite having legitimate 1st round talent physically, he was a 1 year wonder in a weak conference, he had numerous injuries at BYU. He constantly bailed from structure, and still does. He can't stop playing hero ball.
I love this show. I don't know whether Zack Wilson is a bust or not, but I sure hope not. I am a Jets fan and I want to see my team win. Wilson is our quarterback. I never liked Wilson. He came up out of nowhere and leaped frogged Justin Fields to take the number two spot in the draft. Fields had a long High School and College career of success. I did not understand The Jets pick of Wilson over Fields. I know that Fields is not doing so great either, but he is bigger, stronger and has had years of success. Wilson seems to fragil.
What can possibly go wrong with having a Wilson be the starting QB of the Broncos 😂 broncos country let’s cry 😭
“To explore the thick bushes of milfland” is wild
I'm so glad this video is here because the Fields bust video released just before he improved which means Wilson's breakout is incoming, thanks Perna!
If anyone of the 2021 QB draft class is looking like a bust, It's Trey Lance (Not entirely his fault due to injury) and Trevor Lawrence is looking more and more like what he needed most was a Veteran QB to observe for a season or two in Duvall before handing him the reigns.
atleast Mac already had a pro bowl year and the Pats made the playoffs. The only thing Wilson has done is fuck his mom bestfriend
You are likely right. Tho I do think the NFL just does voodoo at the QB position to try and save their jobs from time to time.
Justin Fields still hasn’t figured it out though he’s went form atrocious to not good, below average. Fields still has a ton of growing to do in the pass game.
My observations as a Jets fan:
Every time he scrambles, he keeps his eyes downfield trying to find someone to throw to even when he should definitely just run forward.
Did you say Rodgers success came from playing in a weak conference? What about the other half of the schedule, LoL . He is a top 3 QB of all time.
I like how Perna saw the future
Great show, as usual - quality and fun, as usual.
You are looking rather dapper Perna, like Paul McCartney when he left The Beatles.
The Jets are 5-1 with Zach Wilson this year and he keeps making clutch throws when it counts. You can call him a “bust” if you want, but he’s looking pretty good from where I sit.
He’s just salty about Russ Wilson lol
J E TS
Thank you for saying it out loud
I remember when BYU came to Toledo and I think he played for a little bit. Still love that moment when my Rockets beat the Mormons of BYU
Here after he got benched.😂😂😂😂

Brandon "you aren't a bust" Perna... seriously my favorite sports channel on the RUclipss man.
He's got talent, but He was someone who needed to be a day 2-3 pick and given time to develop instead of being thrust into what is one of the perennially worst teams in the NFL.
jets are 5-3?? how are they worst in NFL bum take bet you never watch this kid play
Is it to late to draft Josh Allen instead??
😭😭
The broncos will trade for him next year and sign for an extension
every starting qb now has to have wilson in his name
As a HUGE Jet Fan, I still say we gave up way too early on Geno I was on him from Day 1 and we really messed up not taking Justin Fields over this BUST
locker room was bad. thats why he never flourished here
Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa, Jalen Hurts, and now Geno Smith have all proven that you never know if/when a QB could pop.
Perfect timing for my lunch, thank you Brandon
perfect timing for my lunch, thank you Brandon
Ur channel is one of my favorites keeps me updated on football and the jokes r 👌👌
Coming back to this a year later as a Jets fan and oh boy it does not get better!
Good thing you made this video he’s gonna ball out now
I think that if they built a team around his abilities. Instead of trying to make him into a pocket passer.
Fields is gonna be the best 2021 draft QB
Whether or not that is faint praise remains to be seen
Trevor lawrence is going to be.he is on the same arch as j.allen.
Looking like a low bar.
@@jonsmith7659 i think trevor and fielda are going to be ok their teams just need to build around them.the others are back ups at best.
He's at least the most successful OSU QB in NFL history already.
When i watch them play, i see the talent. He has a really nice arm, decent mobility. Just can’t make the right decisions. Theoretically that’s the most coachable thing, but we’ve seen plenty of qbs not make it work
@2:36 the reason why I subscribe to this channel.
Going to support. Z W today..Wearing his shirt..
I like these videos. Do one on Trevor Lawrence and Mac Jones. Trey Lance is the only one with real excuses
Watching this so that Wilson gets a 5 TD/0 Int game this weekend
You do know who he has to play right.
@@Chainsoldier23 which will make it more impressive!
I have two categories for that QB class - 1.) potentially okay, and 2.) Potentially bust.
1.) Lawrence, Fields, Jones
2.) Wilson, Lance
I don’t think any of them at this point can be considered franchise QBs… but, maybe they can pull it together.
Jeez, Lance has barely even played. Fans are brutal with this stuff. Guys don't get one minute in the league and fans throw them in the trash.

I hate calling a player a bust without seeing them in different system first. So many young QB's/players get flushed by terrible programs (i.e. Geno Smith).
as a jets fan I have 100% given up on him, and just hope we can sign lamar next year.
This is why I hate it when people knock on "game manager" type qb's. Yeah, they don't usually get you the big highlight plays but they're smart w/ the football and don't make stupid mistakes. So if the rest of the team is in point, you're going to win a lot of games.
What was with the two defenders that kept throwing Wilson down at BYU???
Russel finally wins a game.
Perna: WE’RE GOING TO THE SUPERBOWL
I mean people were calling Josh Allen a bust up until about 2 seasons ago.
Here after Zach Wilson beats the bills. Perma is just cursed with helping out struggling qbs he wants to fail
I stopped watch PMS for this. And I don’t give a flying fuck about the Jets. Love you Perna.
Atlanta has had worse busts...... love the content Mr. Perna.....
I don't know that team is so young at the moment but i will say he a MVP in cougar hunting.
Mr. Perna you keep saying New York when speaking about the New Jersey Jets. Go Bills!
Now that u posted this, i fully expect him to become a god. Thanks for the fields one btw
13:06 Ha! Good one Brandon! Lol
Absolutely agree. I think he just needs a little more time. Not to turn into a great QB or anything, I just think this team needs to spend more time with this player in order to figure out if he makes sense or not.
Spoilers: he probably doesn't. I just think we would have seen "it" by now.
A great QB he isn't. If he gets to Matthew Stafford level, he's gonna be fine. There's a long distance to go, but at least 1 more year is worth it.
If the Jets would just start Joe Flacco, they might be a serious threat.
At 4:00 that dogs mad cute

Your Justin Fields bust episode no doubt spurred Justin on to play better and hopefully it will work for Zack, too!
Who
Also time for people to quit looking too much in QB stats and performances at the college level to determine their pro potential at the NFL.
Zach Wilson went off in 2020. He was drafted in the 2021NFL draft.
insane how many of his pics came off of plays that hit his receivers dead in the hands & doesnt get talked about
Wilson is worse than any young QB right now when I watch the tape. Terrible mechanics, doesn't set his feet, throws into traffic. If Trevor Lawrence was on the Jets I bet they'd have more wins. That's saying something because they've both been bad.
Jets should get Gardner Minshew

He had one good season at BYU. He currently cannot operate in structure and can’t consistently operate out of structure. That’s bust-esque
I think it's the coaching of the jets that isn't using his full potential
This is the same thing they said about Darnold.
13 straight loses to the pats. I know the pain. Good luck Sunday
And this season you got him!!! Good Luck Broncos!
"A little like Johnny Manzel" Ugh! I hope not.
