Yeah even his college evaluation didn’t make sense. A kid playing for BYU in a Covid season, playing garbage competition, that throws 18 times a game was taken second overall in the NFL draft. If Wilson is even a number 2 QB on an NFL team I will be surprised.

@@ErikCB912 It's funny how the metric you're offering for QB success is how bad their surrounding roster is lol. FWIW none of those rosters were great. ZW was drafted to the same 2-win 2020 roster that SD had. Tell me who his supporting cast was year one? CD84 and Keenan Cole? ZW had a winning record w/ BH across 2 seasons. GW is great but he's legitimately the only option. ZW did a ton to hurt himself, but his development was scrapped midway through 22''. The Defense took off way quicker than the O, the Jets have been trapped in that mire of false hope ever since. Defense wins games and O stays out of their way, "first to 20 points, wins." ZW never truly stood a chance in NY. By last season's end, BH and GW were publicly calling out their coaching staff and their OLine ranked bottom 2 in every metric in the league- not to mention they led the league in penalties. The rosters may have changed, you can feel free to argue about which Jets draft pick had it the worst. But the fact of the matter remains, the Jets have failed all of their QB picks since Sanchez.

Joe Burrow played 5 years of college football and won the college football championship. Zach Wilson played barely 2 seasons in college at BYU playing lower tier competition in college. You can’t compare Burrow and Wilson in terms of NFL readiness. He needed a lot of learning time on the side line just like Jordan Love.
And yes, the O-line for a raw product like that was paramount. AVT has barely been on the field during ZW’s tenure. Breece was injured year 1. Garrett Wilson had no other WR to open up the field. The Jets blew this more so than Wilson who needed the Jets to help him develop.

For all the non jet fans, this insanity is just a snippet of the circus that always surrounds this team. It’s not just bad/sad/boring football. There’s a special cruel sort of comedy that’s unique to this team. Every mishap is just so damn ironic in nature and often on the national stage. I’m not trying to say it’s worse to be a jets fan than some of the other historically bad teams, I’m not saying the Jets have as many heartbreaks as other bad teams. But there’s a special circle of hell that Jet fans are in. Being just a few short weeks away of the 2024 season, I’m once again hopeful. We’ve paid enough penance with Rodgers last year, haven’t we? Maybe this time it’ll be different. But as the famous quote goes, it’s the hope that’ll kill you. #JetUp

The most frustrating thing about Zach Wilson on the Jets, is when he had plays that looked like full blown "superstar style" plays - they were massive. Sure they were extremely less frequent than the complete meltdown blunders on a daily basis, but it left you wondering what's going on inside his head, why can't he consistently string together solid performances? It shows that you can have all the physical traits in the world, all the arm talent, and check almost all the boxes on paper that are attributed to starting QB's and still not cut it in NFL. Whether it was something going on in his own head or the ability to modify his natural talents to translate to the NFL level - we may never know. But one thing is for sure, those 3 years that he played on the Jets were some of the most frustrating games to watch in my lifetime.

People focus too much on upside, and ignore fundamentals. And when you look at all the athletic freaks who fail in the NFL, the one thing that stands out is their fundamental skillsets are lacking. Yes, the ability to throw on the move, have a cannon of a right arm, and whatnot is "nice to have", but at the end of the day you need to understand defenses, have solid mechanics, and the ball placement skills to throw receivers open, delivering the ball on time and on target. Having exceptional physical talent does *not* replace these fundamental skills.

I like how there isn't a narrative saying "the Jets ruined Wilson" like there is "the Bears ruined fields." I wonder why that is. Why did one player.... just suck. But the other was "ruined" despite NEVER being good himself.
I just think QB is more of a mental position than physical talent/athletic ability one. Being a good QB is all about mental processing power and speed..... and being decisive. Not to mention having a stellar memory memorizing every play knowing what every receiver and TE is doing and knowing where your OL is blocking/pushing defenders. Not only do you need to know all that you then gave to have a deep understanding of how defenses cover offenses and be able to recognize what coverage they're in which will then allow you to anticipate the open receiver before he gets to an open spot within the defensive scheme. None of this requires an ounce of athletic ability. It's why guys like Peyton Manning and Tom Brady thrived at the position despite being gangly muscle-less quarterbacks, haha. They had the brain power.
But..... people will see a fast, muscular Justin Fields and think "wow.... he must be good at sports" because he passes the eye test. Ignoring the fact he fails miserably at the mental acuity aspect of the game.

With dozens of the cons on Wilson, just recalling this 1 aspect of Wilson and why I do not see him as legit, bought up issue of his jersey white as a snowflake of using GIMMICK 3 yard knit and knat passes with several runs to TDs. It led to reasons why he suck, he is not used to real contact and throw the ball away to avoid or absorb oncoming front rush, which he did vs 49ers which led him to be benched , rest of season. With Broncos, he will fade away in the back of our minds. Jets Fans swore they know football with them trolling replies?

Chad Pennington wasn't undermined by anything the Jets did, his career was sidetracked and abbreviated by injury. He had everything you need in a QB to win in the NFL except elite arm strength and durability. A finalist for the Rhodes Scholarship, his football IQ was arguably on par with Peyton Manning's, his play fakes fooled cameramen and he led with an easy demeanor and unwavering determination. He just couldn't stay on the field.
Geno Smith was immature and entitled and he carried a chip on his shoulder because he slipped to the second round. His arrogance and lack of accountability is what led to his jaw getting broken. The Jets aren't responsible for raising him or fellating his ego just to get him to commit to their college or sign with their agency. If, as a 22 year old adult, you need your employer to teach you how to speak and behave respectfully towards your co-workers, chances are you don't deserve the position of privilege you've been granted. That's the real reason it took him almost a decade to land another starting job; he had to be humbled.

The problem with the analysis is that he had the misfortune of being drafted by the worst team in the worst market in the NFL. The Jets blow chunks and have destroyed every QB for the last five decades.

“The new regime propelled the Jets to double up their win total from the previous season. Jumping from two wins to fouuuurrrr. Still awful, but technically moving things in the right direction.”
LOL that one got me! 😂

Wheen he came in as a super Trump guy I knew his team wouldnt play for him.
For Bosa it was okay bc he doesnt have to lead. But a QB that is not AMAZINGLY TALATED and doesnt lead.... ita like aaron rodgers but atleast he can throw.
His GB team respected him but did they truly love him aa other teama do their QB.

dude was sacked 113 times in 3 seasons, you can't expect a rookie qb to be able to figure out nfl level defenses while getting smashed on 50% of his drop backs not to mention the inept coaching
