Fun fact re: angry Christmas gnomes! Those "gonk" gnomes that are super popular at Christmas are called Nisse in Denmark, and their job is to beat up people who don't celebrate appropriately. It makes me laugh whenever I see them now, imagining these furious little gnomes attacking, Goosebumps style.
As someone who absolutely cannot wrap my head around colour temperatures, any stuff about that is wasted on me, but the rest is helpful. Coloured pencil art seems so rare on RUclips, glad to have found you a few days ago, it is a medium I want to get better at.
The way you colored these give off a holographic optical illusion which is almost trippy when you move the paper around... like at 5:16 my eyes interpret them as holo stickers. It's so fun!! :O
Em, you cracking me up with the "excellent gesture." It's just like the language you have no plans to change. I love watching your videos. Just be you. ❤❤❤
This is an awesome tutorial! Thank you for making it! I've been so inspired to draw log houses, like a log turned into a house not a cabin, lately, but I didn't know how to properly render the logs so I have just been using watercolor washes and leaning into the line work. I'm so excited to whip out my colored pencils and try rendering one of my log houses now!
Oh I love that!!! ❤️ I'm so happy you liked it! And you could even try layering pencils on top of the watercolour because I've seen some people do that and it looks so nice!
DEATH BECOMES HER is such a GREAT movie, okay, i saw that movie a few times between 5 & 8 years, then when I was 15, I wanted to watch it with my bestie. i have NOT seen it as an adult, and have actively remembered it's existence lately, will TOTALLY be sharing that disastermasterpiece of a film with my partner soon,, so YAAAAY vibin' brain waves!!
Thank you for sharing your process! I absolutely love your use of color, both in gouache and color pencils. I feel like I colored pencils make me too literal with color choices, it’s so inspiring to see how you think outside the box with all those fun neons! ❤
I just found your channel, and I have never seen a colorist using Holbein as their regular. I think they are a very misunderstood formula, but because they are *the* Holbein, a lot of artists have them but never use them. I am so glad I found you.
Love this video and your work! just looked up the cost of holbein colored pencils and I think I'm gonna have to practice quite a bit before I can justify the purchase for myself 😅
Agree with not needed super fancy colored pencils, I use random brands and they work fine! In fact better? My issue with prismacolor is they break A LOT while sharpening! I also don’t use color pencil as much anymore because it was my first medium when I started my artistic journey (years ago) and now I get fatigue in my wrist easily, so painting is my go to 😅
Do you know any colouring pencils that would be good for adding highlights/lighter colours onto alcohol markers? Loved the video btw, your art inspired me to try traditional art again :)
Yeah I like prismacolor and holbein, but if you want a really light highlight you could try pastel pencils. They may need a fixative over top but they look cool as highlight on markers😁
Do you find the color pencils allow your brain to go on auto pilot after you get past the learning curve? I've been a long-time fan. Color pencils feel safer to me than many other mediums out there. Like you said, they can be erased if needed.
Sure! When the colours are less saturated, they seem greyer and not a bright( I don't really want to use the word bright but I'm not sure what else to use) I don't mean lighter or darker, I mean more packed with colour. Sorry if I didn't explain well from the start there, I'll try to explain better in another video forward😁 I sometimes am using the word "saturated " in relation to another colour its beside, so the colour I'm talking about may not be the most saturated ever, but is more saturated than the "greyer" or more toned down colour. I hope this helps!

I love this idea and em would do great with some aggressive gnomes 😅
You are literally my favorite art RUclipsr. Your style is so cute and unique and your commentary is the best, the sense of humor is great 😂
Aww thank you so much I'm honored!

Very helpful information. It was nice seeing the actual process rather than just being told to do a bunch of light layers. Great job! ❤
So not only is this sketch page 🔥, but the real time dialog worked out fantastic! I know you were worried but you really did great.
This was super educational and helpful, thank you so much Em ❤

Nice
Another amazing video. Big fan over here. May I ask what do you use for recording, do you use your phone or do you have a professional camera?
loved your reasons for the way you pick colors. I have a question: are those bright/neon colors in the basics set or the pastels?
Thanks! Most of them are, the neon orange is from prismacolor but I believe the rest are holbien
Hope i can color like this someday unfortunately cant practice yet i have no coloring pencils so im waiting for christmas :]
OOO WE EARLY!!!
how long do you usually warm up

😍😍😍
Wow just in time, yesterday I went outside to draw trees from life and my drawings were a disaster hehe
Can you explain saturation a bit more? Do you mean it as a synonym for a dark color?

@@emrouleauartYes, that does help, particularly “packed with color.” That seems to nail it - thanks!
