"I want to be having fun but I'm not" is such a relatable feeling for me with art! The past decade has felt like a struggle to ever do anything creative without feeling like it's not "good" enough or not turning out like I imagined it would (partially from bring so out of practice by not drawing often because life is busy, and then it only gets worse the less I draw, which is what happens when it makes me feel bad instead of fulfilled lol). Why can't brains just let us enjoy something without expectations, damn. 😂
Hi there, long time lurker, first time commenter. Thank you for keeping it real. As for the negative comments that say you sound like you’re fishing for compliments, please ignore them as they clearly fail to understand what it is like to battle with your own mind. The fact that you committed to being this vulnerable and stuck it out is incredibly inspiring and you are relatable.
Thank you so much this really helps me ❤️❤️ it was difficult but I already see that it has helped me, now I'm making another video like this style already😁
I feel like seeing a video of your full process without speeding up is allowing me to study your technique better which is super helpful! Also I love your commentary so much in every video! You make me laugh out loud fr
@@MiraSeville Sorry this one wasn’t for you, you are totally entitled to your opinion but for what it’s worth I didn’t interpret it that way at all. People tend to be their own worst critics and the additional anxiety would have amplified that. Plus Em clearly had a specific vision for what she wanted ahead of time and even though the drawings were super cute in their own right, they were different from that vision. I’m not sure if you switched off by then but later in the video she shows her initial plans for some of the drawings and they do look quite different.
The gnome is flipping off your anxiety, ocd, and need for perfection. It was brave of you to push yourself outside your comfort zone. And the art was beautiful as always!!
I really appreciate that sort of honest content with struggles and anxiety rather than a perfect seamless reel with an ideal image from the very first line. Thank you for sharing it

I've been thinking about starting my own channel, and your videos have been a touchstone for me as I muster my bravery. Thank you for putting yourself out there. I know it's deeply uncomfortable, but it's real and beautiful.
I loved your drawings. The pumpkin is my favorite. We're always harder on ourselves. Art is hard! Give yourself some credit for making it through. It's hard to show your art to the world, but you're doing it!

Thank you so much it is hard and doing this video has actually made me feel less alone (and a lot better) from the comments like yours😊 I happy I did it because it pushed me forward and I'm already working on other, more successful videos in this style
Come for the art, stay for the commentary! You make me laugh so hard, you are so real and that is actually the hardest thing to do on Camera. I’m working on that myself. I can be really funny and witty in real life, but as soon as the camera turns on, I’m all Stifled love your style!
The thing that I (and from what I've seen, so many others) love about your videos (besides your art lol) is your authenticity. People can relate to YOU. You inspire us. 😁
I mean I enjoyed my time here. It’s been fun and light. You nailed the practice and you nailed the fun and light. 🤷♀️ they’re all fun and adorable in their own ways
This was such a good way to start my morning. I always find it so fascinating to hear an artists thought process and your humour just makes it so much better lol
I am going to be staring eagle-eyed at your shop for a sticker of that little mothman, I love him so much. Also, your narration is sooo relatable, and I especially love your typed comments on your own comments. Those crack me up, they are EXACTLY like my thoughts when I ramble, I feel so seen. I really enjoy your art style, and your personality, and I really enjoyed the style and honesty in this video.
This is exactly the kind of video I want to see. It’s so reassuring. We're all so self-critical and we all have moments of hating our own work and I think it's great and brave to share that. ❤
You: "Terrible Mothman." Me: "I want a sticker of that Mothman." Edit: Now that I've watched the whole thing -! Yesterday I found myself absorbing some content to help me figure out how to learn to focus again (hahahaaaaa nnnngh) and I've kind of gone cold turkey on some things. BUT the point is, watching you force yourself to work through your anxiety and finish something you didn't like, it was actually exactly what I needed to see right now. So, thank you for that! Also I'm proud of you, if that means anything... but yeah! I am! And I really do love that mothman, haha!
@@MiraSeville Why did you even reply to me with this negative comment? I seriously recommend you take up the idea and act on it that if you don't enjoy something, you can turn it off without saying anything to anyone and move on with your life. I don't appreciate this unkind comment. I enjoyed the video and I love Em and her work. Watching her videos is a highlight for me. If you don't like it, move on and be quiet until you have something kind to say. Have a nice day.
I'm proud of you for doing that ❤ I know it was very hard but I really liked the video and the drawings it was fun to watch and We love your brain and commentary ✨
Thanks for being brave and posting even if you didn’t want to. And even if the sketches or the video didn’t turn out how you wanted, it’s a great lesson in just trying something new! As an amateur artist I enjoy watching your process. And as a recovering perfectionist i can so relate to your perpetual dissatisfaction lol.
Thank you so much I really appreciate this ❤️ I definitely didn't want to post it but I had to force myself and now I'm happy that I did because I got the outside perspective from other people's comments which is so helpful to me and it was good exposure therapy😁
I'm not even halfway through watching this, but I just HAVE to stop and say that your cute little bat guy sketch reminds me so much of a derpy mothman, and nothing has filled my heart with more joy than him today. I would buy that as a sticker in a heartbeat. Edit: LMAO, as soon as I clicked play again, you said, "we're gonna ignore the terrible mothman I just drew." MOM SAID IT'S MY TURN WITH THE BRAINCELL Also, I really love this kind of video from you! It shows your authentic personality (your voiceovers do too, but you can tell that this wasn't edited quite as much [which is a good thing in this case]), and it makes me feel less alone for having to almost gaslight myself into finishing a sketchbook spread when I don't like the way it's going. It's also comforting to hear another person whose inner monologue progressively loses its chill throughout a drawing session. Regardless of how this ends up looking by the time the video is over, I've thoroughly enjoyed myself, and I really hope you do more videos like this.
Emmmm I really like this style of video and really enjoyed watching it while working on a project. Congrats on being brave and posting this but as everyone has already said, don’t feel scared! Hope to see more of these, I really love this style that I can have on while I’m in my studio alone bc it makes me feel not alone lol
I loved this video and your drawings! I think you perfectly achieved the cartoony style you were going for so don't be so hard on yourself! It was very nice to listen to you, it was like drawing with a friend. You're not talking all the time with a friend so I didn't mind the pauses, it gives you time to think.
I loooooove your narrations. Not just your unhinged ones, well, they all kind of are? I mean this in the most lovingly way possible because I am myself an unhinged artist lol. Please keep doing this!
Thanks for sharing this, even though you were not sure about wanting to do so. RUclips needs more of this. I always forget to like videos but I am gonna try and do better.😊
I wonder if you realize just how funny, real, and relatable you are. I love listening to you and your art is just wonderful. I’m always amazed by what you can just pull out of your head. LOL at “It’s called brown 😂”.
I rarely leave comments on RUclips videos but I HAVE to comment that I love your freeform narration and your art and your whole approach here. Props to you on challenging yourself to try something different, that shit is rarely comfortable but I hope it was rewarding. Love this channel!
I loved this. I really like your take on your videos. When you include your mental health and your struggles as an artist, it makes you feel more grounded and it allows me to feel, as a hobby artitst that I don't have to be the best, that each piece doesnt have to be my best work. I really appreciate this video as I think you've done as intended. You've made yourself very real and relatable and it's really encouraging and reminds me I'm doing my art for fun, not perfection. I had this on in the background whilst I crafted and it was a nice chill video (but I'm sure you didn't feel chill at the time), where as your other videos I want to sit and watch so I don't miss things and tips and tricks and techniques you do. This was a nice video for a "come do art/crafts with me" type of vibe. I loved it and I liked the length of it! More please! Great job!
Thank you so much I'm really happy you liked it and I did want it to be a 'play in the background while I also do art' kind of video haha I'm definitely going to keep doing videos like this sprinkled in with voiceover ones 😁
The line art in this reminds me of the line art of Shel Silverstein. I really enjoyed it! ❤ I enjoyed this style of content. I like your usual stuff as well. This was just a nice pop of sporatic energy, which i adore! ❤🎉
This is wonderful. I actually paused mid video to make this comment. I have the same struggles, and seeing you so honestly approaching your process in real time is so helpful and inspiring! It is perfectly refreshing and helpful. I am subscribing and hoping to see more of this approach! Well done, and thank you!
I really appreciate you pushing through your nerves to do this video! I want you to know you've inspired me to pick up coloured pencils for the first time since I was a child and I'm having a blast.
I really enjoyed all of the work on this, especially the rat. Having anxiety I know this is unlikely to help, but you don't have anything to worry about.
Hey Em, I wanted to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this video. It hit a little close to home for me with the whole talk of anxiety and exposure therapy because I also suffer from anxiety and I have for a long time. My whole life basically. I've been trying to do some of my own exposure therapy stuff too lately, but unfortunately, It hasn't been going so well due to the fact that I keep chickening out. But I'm going to keep trying. Trying to push myself out of my comfort zone and to prove to myself that it's okay and everything's going to be okay. So, yeah thanks for this reminder to keep being brave, because it really is tough sometimes. (Writing more youtube comments is one of those things funnily enough lol, I used to be too scared to write anything at all, so hey, maybe I'm not doing so bad after all haha) Also, I could not stop laughing my ass off once I realized that the gnome was flipping someone off, then once the rat was added, my day was made. XD Thanks for another great video.
You are hilarious. I watched for the art and stayed for the commentary. 10/10 art entertainment. I don’t mind if I just watch you draw or paint for hours with all the commentary.
I love how this turned out. The sketch book is supposed to be your research and development department. I always have 4 or 5 pages in a book that I go back and glue cards/magazine clippings to cover up my experiments that went wrong. Only reason for that is so that I enjoy looking through the book years down the road. I like that you said there were good things to come from it in the end. 🖖🖖🖖🖖
hey! so i stumbled across your channel this evening and i absolutely LOVE your content..! the voiceovers feel so genuine and are so funny! i find your art so inspiring and as much as you didn’t seem to like the sketches as you went along (especially mothman lmao), i found it really helpful! i see so many artists on here do only show their positives, but you were brave and showed the negatives (even though i think your drawings are very good in this video), which is something a lot of other channels don’t do, and it made me realise that every artist has their own struggles with art, and that it’s normal to get frustrated with a drawing, so thank you, really..! using this video, i was able to do the first drawing ive liked the outcome of for a long while and im inspired to make even more..! keep being you, you’re super funny and so talented! thank you
I need the forg , pig bat and the mothman as a sticker their so cute ♡ Also I'm proud of you for doing this even though it was a challenge. I have the same problem with anxiety, thanks for being genuine even tho it was hard!♡
I love your work. Have seen all of your videos here. Some more than twice! Lol. This was inspiring for me too. As a fellow perfectionist I have been told you learn from the bad/mistakes and it’s hard to see the good when you hate your work. And honestly the moth man you hate so much was my absolute favourite! It’s all good but I love him! And the way you layer pencil crayons I need to learn this skill. ❤❤❤
Thank you so much❤️ im glad you liked the mothman and I'll soon do an in depth tutorial video in this same kind of style that will explain the layering with colour pencils thing😁
this was so relatable honestly a lot of the time that I'm working on stuff I'm like lmao this is dogsh*t and I don't like it until later but I really appreciated hearing the struggle you're going through because it makes me feel less alone amongst all the other finished art that people post and gush about. it makes me feel a lot better that someone who objectively is such a good creative artist and drawer with a stable practice feels this way about their own work sometimes
I really enjoyed this video. I liked watching you draw in real time, I could relate to your anxiety spiral, and I think you should be proud of yourself (while knowing that that probably sounds patronizing and I don’t mean for it to… watch me go into my own anxiety spiral in the middle of this comment). I also think if you wanna cuss you should cuss because it’ll help you feel like you’re speaking normally and less guarded. I love your artwork! Keep it up!
Why cuss? I can't figure that out. Do kids think this makes them an adult? Sounds like Jojo Siwa throwing out the eff word Everytime she talks. It's sickening. If you choose to be an influencer, please be a positive one. Our kids have enough negative energy fighting them as it is. Time to put on your big girl panties and act like an adult.
This video is like a sketch but for videos, as artists sketches aren't always perfect and we don't always want to show them to people but it's the best way to get better and usually people are amazed by almost any art. I love this video because it's much more relatable than other sketch book videos with voice overs. I love your honesty at 19:00 and I wanted to commend you for turning the camera back on and posting this video! Also totally relate to you aspiring to have those effortless fast sketches, how do they do it?!?!
OK… The gnome took me on an emotional journey. First, I don’t like gnomes, I think they’re creepy. But then yours was coming out so cute, I thought, “Maybe I’m being too hard on gnomes.” And then I thought, “Wait, is he flipping someone off???” My negative perception of gnomes was restored. Then I noticed he’s also smiling. So… Anyway, love the sketches. I could never go straight in with ink, you are so brave! Love your channel.
1st video, watched the whole thing, and I'm HOOKED. "I used to be a hairdresser *silence*" "This was the color I was looking for... it's called ✨brown✨" Chill video but still got some laughs while I'm working on an illustration. 100% subbing 💕
I LOVED this🎉 your drawings were fun as hewl and super inspiring to see you be out of your comfort zone because thats how I feel when I try shit like this 😅 this is legit my inner monologue and it was so comforting to feel like someone else is right there with me. Your drawings still look sick af to me so maybe my art doesnt always look as trash as I believe oooof. You are awesome thanks for bein vulnerable and sheet and pls continue to keep me company in my art anguish❤❤
If I have learned 1 thing about art. It should always be about having fun. I don't know how many times during this video that you said something about not having fun. Do something that makes you happy and is fun to create. I watch all of your videos regardless of how you do them. I loved Bat Boy, also the cute little gnome and rat saga. I don't think anyone... except you expects perfection.
My anxiety also manifests with perfectionism. I love drawing and am comfortable drawing in public but the idea of drawing for a video is terrifying to me. You are amazing!!!!!!
I love this video and the lenght it, the more you just ramble the more fun it is listen and watch tbh, those lil spooky dudes you drew are literally my all time fave, OMG THAT RAT😍, they have so much character, you are too hard on yourself and i never want to tell an artist how to feel about their own art, but still these are so cool and fun and i just got kinda sad when you were talking about how bad they are or whatever, but i get that the pressure you put on yourself makes you be more tense and it’s much harder to consentrate, i get it 100% anyways my essay is over now, i loved it and i will be back when you post again😍😍😍😍
Please don’t take this the wrong way because I LOVED this video but the narration was so unhinged. I mean this in the best way possible. Please do this style every week?? I love your honesty and showing us the real process. Bat Boy was awesome ❤❤

A Saturday video? From YOU? You're definitely blessing us for real though! 😭
Thank you😊❤️
You: "Terrible Mothman."
Me: "I want a sticker of that Mothman."
Edit: Now that I've watched the whole thing -!
She was begging for compliments. Constant " oh that's bad" comments were so annoying. I turned it off. Couldn't stand 5o watch
Aww omg that makes me so happy I feel like it was useful to post now hahah ❤️😁
@@emrouleauart It was useful!
@@MiraSevillebuh bye, douche canoe!
The wizard on the thumbnail page goes hard, but I really like both pages. I think they have a lot of character and charm :3
I love this! angry bat and gnome vs rat are my favorites
I'm not even halfway through watching this, but I just HAVE to stop and say that your cute little bat guy sketch reminds me so much of a derpy mothman, and nothing has filled my heart with more joy than him today. I would buy that as a sticker in a heartbeat.
Edit: LMAO, as soon as I clicked play again, you said, "we're gonna ignore the terrible mothman I just drew." MOM SAID IT'S MY TURN WITH THE BRAINCELL
Also, I really love this kind of video from you!
Thank you so much I'm really happy you liked it and I'm definitely gonna make more😁❤️ also, I will work on mothman stickers hahah
Love this, the little guys, and your being brave. I’m gonna try drawing in pen without the sketch first too! ❤
I loooooove your narrations. Not just your unhinged ones, well, they all kind of are? I mean this in the most lovingly way possible because I am myself an unhinged artist lol. Please keep doing this!
Hahaha thank you! No offense taken at all😁❤️
Thanks for sharing this, even though you were not sure about wanting to do so. RUclips needs more of this. I always forget to like videos but I am gonna try and do better.😊
And the frog reminds me of Toy Story. I love him.
Thank you so much!❤️😁
Oh ya it is kinda toy story-ish isn't it!
I'm having a great time coloring along with you. thank you for helping me finish my art for once!
You're doing excellent, Em. 🙌 I love real-time art, too. Helps me learn the details and it can be very relaxing when I'm, .. well, relaxing. Lol
I wonder if you realize just how funny, real, and relatable you are. I love listening to you and your art is just wonderful. I’m always amazed by what you can just pull out of your head. LOL at “It’s called brown 😂”.
Hahahah I couldn't believe the brown 😂 thank you so much I really appreciate it ❤️❤️❤️
I rarely leave comments on RUclips videos but I HAVE to comment that I love your freeform narration and your art and your whole approach here. Props to you on challenging yourself to try something different, that shit is rarely comfortable but I hope it was rewarding. Love this channel!
Thank you so much I’m happy you enjoyed it! It was uncomfortable but it was good for me after haha
I absolutely loved this! It'd amazing! I love doing loose sketches especially when stressed out
The line art in this reminds me of the line art of Shel Silverstein. I really enjoyed it! ❤
I enjoyed this style of content. I like your usual stuff as well. This was just a nice pop of sporatic energy, which i adore! ❤🎉
The wizard's long fingers - the best part. Love the gnome.
Hahah thank you!!
Wonderful and so cute!! 😍😍😍
This is wonderful. I actually paused mid video to make this comment. I have the same struggles, and seeing you so honestly approaching your process in real time is so helpful and inspiring! It is perfectly refreshing and helpful. I am subscribing and hoping to see more of this approach! Well done, and thank you!
More of this please. Confidence comes with continuity and repetition.
I agree and I'm definitely gonna keep trying😁
“Negative space… like the one in my heart”. 😂😂😂😂😂. I feel seen
😂😂😂
A second video this week?!?! Omg you made my day! I'm so ready to laugh and draw with you 😊
I really appreciate you pushing through your nerves to do this video! I want you to know you've inspired me to pick up coloured pencils for the first time since I was a child and I'm having a blast.
Aww yay I'm so happy you're having fun!!! They are the best I love colour pencils😁
I listened to this while also struggling with a drawing and it helped lol (also i LOVE both mothman drawings)
I freaking love your videos. You are hilarious and so relatable!
I love the angry bat boy and Evil! I feel ya on the sentiment of all the good shows with original ideas get canceled too soon.
Thank you! Yeah this one hurt haha I really really liked that show
I really enjoyed all of the work on this, especially the rat. Having anxiety I know this is unlikely to help, but you don't have anything to worry about.
Thank you😁❤️❤️
Loved this more than I thought I would
Hey Em, I wanted to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this video.
Awww thank you 😊
I love how this turned out. 🖖🖖🖖🖖
Thank you! For sure you have to make mistakes to make good stuff later😁 and it's definitely good to look back on old sketches
hey! so i stumbled across your channel this evening and i absolutely LOVE your content..! the voiceovers feel so genuine and are so funny! i find your art so inspiring and as much as you didn’t seem to like the sketches as you went along (especially mothman lmao), i found it really helpful! i see so many artists on here do only show their positives, but you were brave and showed the negatives (even though i think your drawings are very good in this video), which is something a lot of other channels don’t do, and it made me realise that every artist has their own struggles with art, and that it’s normal to get frustrated with a drawing, so thank you, really..! using this video, i was able to do the first drawing ive liked the outcome of for a long while and im inspired to make even more..! keep being you, you’re super funny and so talented! thank you
I love your laugh. It’s been so fun watching your videos, I hope you find a process that suits you!
Thank you so much!!
I need the forg , pig bat and the mothman as a sticker their so cute ♡
Also I'm proud of you for doing this even though it was a challenge. I have the same problem with anxiety, thanks for being genuine even tho it was hard!♡
I loved it! ❤
Thank you so much❤️ im glad you liked the mothman and I'll soon do an in depth tutorial video in this same kind of style that will explain the layering with colour pencils thing😁
just be brave. that's my new line. i'm literally sitting here with all my shit out, staring at the table and fretting.
ok, well, now that i've gotten 10 minutes in you made me laugh and now i can get started, be silly too. yay for us :)
Hahahah yayy 😁❤️
this was so relatable honestly a lot of the time that I'm working on stuff I'm like lmao this is dogsh*t and I don't like it until later but I really appreciated hearing the struggle you're going through because it makes me feel less alone amongst all the other finished art that people post and gush about. it makes me feel a lot better that someone who objectively is such a good creative artist and drawer with a stable practice feels this way about their own work sometimes
Aw thanks for saying I'm a good creative artist haha❤️ I'm really happy you liked it😊
I really enjoyed this video.
This was the most endearing and delightful video and honestly so relatable and inspiring. Thank you. I laughed out loud so much.
Aww thank you!! I'm really happy you liked it 😁
"You're doing it Peter! You're playing with us!"
😂😂😂
This video is like a sketch but for videos, as artists sketches aren't always perfect and we don't always want to show them to people but it's the best way to get better and usually people are amazed by almost any art. I love this video because it's much more relatable than other sketch book videos with voice overs. I love your honesty at 19:00 and I wanted to commend you for turning the camera back on and posting this video! Also totally relate to you aspiring to have those effortless fast sketches, how do they do it?!?!
Oh my god it IS a sketch but for videos that's so brilliant 👏 thank you❤️
This style in this page gives Moomin Troll vibes. I absolutely adore it!!!
Hahahahah wow that was a whirlwind. Thank you😁
1st video, watched the whole thing, and I'm HOOKED.
"I used to be a hairdresser *silence*"
"This was the color I was looking for... it's called ✨brown✨"
Chill video but still got some laughs while I'm working on an illustration. 100% subbing 💕
Omg thank you!! 😁
Hahahahah thank you! I'm glad I could bring you some peace 😁
Omg I love it.
I very much enjoyed watching. I have the same perfection issues, but I'm working on them! I love the Halloween spread ❤.
I don't think anyone... except you expects perfection.
my fav part is when you say "I used to be a hairdresser", but great video thank you!
Hahaha thank you!!
Mother has posted an extra video 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
My anxiety also manifests with perfectionism. I love drawing and am comfortable drawing in public but the idea of drawing for a video is terrifying to me. You are amazing!!!!!!
Thank you!! I actually am not comfortable drawing in public so to me that's brave! 😁
Idk what your talking about because I love ALL of it!! The rat definitely gave me Courage the Cowardly Dog creepy vibes. It's all great.
Oh love courage😁 thank you so much I was just having a bit of a moment that day I guess lol
"I can’t believe how smoothly the fondant goes on at 3:03! Goals for my next cake! 🎂💯"
i started watching ur vids recently and i love thisss tysm for posting it i love watching the Process, esp since i'm just now trying to learn drawing
I love this video and the lenght it, the more you just ramble the more fun it is listen and watch tbh, those lil spooky dudes you drew are literally my all time fave, OMG THAT RAT😍, they have so much character, you are too hard on yourself and i never want to tell an artist how to feel about their own art, but still these are so cool and fun and i just got kinda sad when you were talking about how bad they are or whatever, but i get that the pressure you put on yourself makes you be more tense and it’s much harder to consentrate, i get it 100%
anyways my essay is over now, i loved it and i will be back when you post again😍😍😍😍
