Danse is the best follower in the game. Not only can he hold his own he can often clear entire areas for the player. It's like his ai was the only one not set for useless.

Any power armor he is in never breaks. With a modded game I gave him a full X-01 Mark 6 with all the trimmings. Plus I had that mod to adjust in game generic npcs and your companions. So he had 15 everything on his SPECIAL. Unstoppable literally. Also I decked out his laser rifle. He was my xp machine lol.
Strong: "Hooman peoples so weaks." Danse: "STFU." (Snaps his kneck, then goes to hell and snaps strongs kneck AGAIN) Strong: (Rises from the dead as a Walking dead type zombie) "Bluuurrrrgh." Honestly not what I was expecting. Strong has 23 strength points, way more than anything else in the game, I didn't expect Danse's power armor to come anywhere near beating him.
I'm genuinely impressed by the melee combat in this game, watching these fistfights it's hard to tell what's an animation and what's just a regular punch. They really look like they're connecting and it makes melee combat way more tactical, instead of just swinging wildly through the air and watching the health bar go down. This really makes me excited about the next Elder Scrolls game, if they did melee so well in a shooter I can only imagine how much better they'll make it in a melee focused game! Virgil being cured means Super Mutants can be cured, even though he was had a special strain. Would be interesting to see a super mutant serum in the next game where there is a quest when you cure a community of super mutants.

Lore-wise a Super Mutant is typically more formidable than a BoS Paladin in power armor. Danse is a synth in power armor though. A gen3 without power armor is already capable of slaughtering small settlements

I made the brotherhood mad and I went back to sanctuary and he was here because I sent him here and I killed him and no one helped but if I shot a cow once I get violated by my own settlers
I figured as much, the Super Mutants are a terrifying scourge only because (aside from their blood-lust) of their brute strength. Put a human and power armor though and that equals the playing field. Danse is a skilled tactician and trained combatant Strong is just a monster that likes to kill things, brains over brawn every time.

He shoots too fast with too much accuracy the rest of the companions just can't damage Danse quick enough before he takes them down. He also likes to aim directly at their heads. I know. I've made companions fight him in my settlement lol. I even gave them better weapons and better armor. Danse still won. The only way they take him down fast in a 1v1 is with a fatman lol
