He is valid to mention it but not forthright in a key macro mismanagement that contributed to inflation. Basically every $1 of $4 dollars today was created during COVID. So M2 supply moved from $1.74bn to $2.4bn between 2020-2022. They were late in increasing interest rate so housing ballooned. We are still suffering from this mis-management.
Edit: wouldn’t be surprised if they use the carbon tax to help prop up their spending. Irony is gov is forcing things through automobile regulations on the manufacturer. So it isn’t fully a maker based solution.

However, trying to defend on his reasoning for a carbon tax by blaming a problem in the past is not the solution. Can't wait until the conservatives Kibosh this stupid tax. We are only a small population country, and our carbon output is a drop in the bucket compared to others.
Well, the one thing I will say about how covid has had lingering effects on our economy is how much the government was constantly shutting down businesses which has contributed to destroying our economy. That and the fact that they kept printing tons of money during these times which devalues our currency.

I could not afford a home now even if the interest rates were 0%. The 80's, even with high rates, were for more affordable and prosperous. Right now, living in Canada is a dumpster fire.

I'm no expert on it but it seems the point of the rebate is to take money from the high polluting companies and give it to Canadian citizens to help cover the costs of them jacking up their prices. Without the rebate, Canadians suffer from the inflation caused by the tax, rather than the high polluting companies.

My latest gas bill is 174 dollars, 54 dollars of which is Trudeau's carbon tax. On April 1st that tax is going up, a lot. Enbridge Gas is laying off many employees and will be forced out of business by Trudeau in a few years. Evil.

As someone who grew up and lived all over the east coast, I can say that if rent and groceries hadn't exploded in price, I could live easily paying my carbon taxes on what I make rn. Rent has more then doubled and landlords are not paying nearly that much more for their land and buildings.
