The Queen of England today hosted a lunch at Buckingham Palace for King Abdullah of Jordan.
The newly-enthroned Middle Eastern monarch, accompanied by his Palestinian
wife Queen Rania, was greeted at the Palace's grand entrance by the Queen and
the Duke of York.
It is King Abdullah's first visit to Britain since the death of his father King Hussein from cancer in February.
Wearing a grey suit, Jordan's new King reviewed a guard of honour of Welsh
Guards in the Palace quadrangle before posing for photographs with the Queen,
Duke of York and Queen Rania.
Other guests at the Royal lunch party included Jordan's Prince Feisal bin al-Hussein and his wife Princess Alia al-Faisal (correct), Jordan's prime minister, deputy prime minister, and minister for foreign affairs.
King Abdullah, whose mother Princess Muna was born in Britain, is on a two-day government visit.
The Buckingham Palace lunch comes at the end of the goodwill visit during which the new Jordanian King met Prime Minister Tony Blair, Foreign Secretary Robin Cook, Defence Secretary George Robertson, and opposition party leaders.
King Abdullah is also visiting France, Germany and the United States.
