This was very interesting, thank you for doing into depth with the history and use of this device. Kinda shocked that horrible thing was in service that long, however the MX-991/U was almost as bad and hung around almost as long as well. You'd think a good quality flashlight would have been a higher priority for late 20th century armies but there you go, military procurement at its finest!
we have to realize they who think theyr on top and rule do not care at all as long its not helping them and only them. with the daily life, if in swiss, usa or elsewhere you better have minimum one or two good flashlights and i dont talk about the usual garbage that is sold in stores, overpriced and outdated, like i see still the ma te brand and others around alot, its time for the people to wake up and be human and act responsive as humans in daily life.
The swdish version of this flashlight is made of plastic. Maybe that's a little bit better. The also use C cells and maybe you can get a bulb with an LED. You have to buy the LED bulb yourself. It is issued with the normal bulb and a spare one of course.
Thinking about attaching a battery holder for three pieces of AAA to the terminals. Guessing 1.5v X 3 = 4.5V? Or maybe a single 14500, 16340 or 18650(if it will fit) rated at around 3.6V. Or anyone here tried it already?
