Soul Man Lyrics
Comin' to you on a dust road
Good lovin', I got a truck load
And when you get it, you got something
So don't worry, cause I'm coming
I'm a soul man, I'm a soul man
I'm a soul man, I'm a soul man, I've got it all
Got what I got the hard way
And I'll make it better each and every day
So honey, don't you fret
Cause you ain't seen nothing yet
I'm a soul man, I'm a soul man, play it Steve
I'm a soul man, I'm a soul man
I was brought up on a side street, listen now
I learned how to love before I could eat
I was educated from good stock
When I start lovin', oh, I can't stop
I'm a soul man, I'm a soul man
I'm a soul man, I'm a soul man
Well, grab the rope and I'll pull you in
Give you hope and be your only boyfriend
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

I remember when this was new on the radio in 1967 when I was in school! When music made sense and you can understand what the singers are singing about.
Man the music came out on 1978
@@justsomeguyhere811 Then explain it to me when one of my classmates brought his portable radioto class and we heard it when I was in the 7th grade in Intermediate School 8 in Jamaica, Queens, NYC? We were waiting for our teacher to come in during the change of periods.
@@justsomeguyhere811 it did very well to hit the charts in 1967 then...
@@justsomeguyhere811 No, you're thinking of the SNL sketch "Blues Brothers", from 1978. This here - by Sam & Dave, 1967 - is THE original.
@@justsomeguyhere811No it didn't you naive f!
Sam & Dave were the greatest! This will always be THEIR song no matter who else does it!
Reminiscing... rapt! Saturday, 29 October 2022
Don't think the new technology we have in music can really stand up to the old classics!. You can hear "the soul" in the track...the human factor...not a machine in sight...

I'm 31 and my parents raised me right.. I'm a soul man forever and always
im 3 years old and i listen to this music
No introduction required. An absolute all time classic by Sam & Dave, with brilliant guitar riffs by Steve Cropper, excellent back-up by Booker T & The MGs and let's not forget the late great Isaac Hayes. Brilliant, just utterly brilliant. No version comes close to this great, great original. The original and the definitive and the best version.
Well said!
Epitome of soul, blues and rock n roll. If this doesn’t get you up and moving. nothing will.
What did Issac Hayes play on this song
@@elliothagen9874 Issac Hayes doesn't appear on the recording, but he was one of the writers.
Happy 86th. Samuel David Moore October 12, 1935. Miami, Florida.. I liked you way before The Blues Brothers. A true pioneer of big band blues..
I was 4 years old but I remember this song vividly. It was my daddy’s song. It always seem to magically be playing on the radio as we sat down to eat dinner.

I'm so glad that I was a part of this era. I loved the soul music and the native Americans that introduced "Soul music. 😁.
I've heard that these two guys didn't get along too well together. Maybe so, but they made one of the best singing duos in US music history.

I always found it interesting with the phrase "I was educated at Woodstock". Yet this debuted in 1967, two years before Woodstock was a thing!
I've often wondered about that, myself. Here's the story:
From Songcraft: Spotlight on Songwriters | EP145 DAVID PORTER ("Soul Man")
"Soul Man” was written two years before the famous Woodstock festival in upstate New York. As revealed in an American Songwriter interview with co-writer David Porter, Woodstock is referencing a high school of the same name in Millington, Tennessee.
Porter goes on to explain further: “No one put very much attention on the Woodstock phrase until here comes the music festival and here comes Belushi and Aykroyd….It had everything to do with the context that the song was created in-humble beginnings, dirt road, getting an education…coming from the soil, so to speak, to build yourself up, to be all the man you need to be.”
