About Stax Records
Stax Records, now owned by Concord/Craft Recordings, was founded by Jim Stewart in 1957 in Memphis, Tennessee. It rose from a small, family-operated company to become one of the most influential soul music record labels in the world, helping create “The Memphis Sound” and launching the careers of icons such as Otis Redding, Isaac Hayes, Booker T. & the M.G.’s, the Staple Singers, Sam & Dave, Rufus and Carla Thomas, The Bar-Kays, and dozens of other artists who helped change popular culture forever. In all, Stax placed 167 hit songs in the Top 100 in Pop and 243 hits in the Top 100 in R&B.
Stax Records works closely with the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, the Stax Music Academy, and The Soulsville Charter School, all operated by the Soulsville Foundation and all located on a vibrant campus at the original site of Stax Records in Memphis, TN. The Soulsville Foundation perpetuates the soul of Stax Records by preserving its rich cultural legacy, educating youth to be prepared for life success, and inspiring future artists to achieve their dreams.

Instrumentals provided by the Swampers, Muscle Shoals, AL.
Yes because future Madame President Kamala Harris brought me here...WE GOT THIS 💙💙💙
Me !!!
Me damn it. Have been for years, it reminds me of my Momma. Cleaning our house on Saturdays and driving cross country to visit my siblings with Mom and my big sister. Good Ole days. They are both gone now so bug off!!!

Facts !
Glad Pops said to his family, "Let's spread out our wonderous music to the entire world."
My uncle wrote song Al Bell after one of uncles was murdered. The lyrics came to my uncle sitting in a bus my grandaddy bought to calm him down about losing a younger brother

One of the most soulful songs ever written and performed!
That funky bass will NEVER get old...
The intro and bass line are taken from "The Liquidator" by the Harry J All-Stars
The lyrics are wrong during the bass solo. David was the bass player's name. Mavis sings Davey not baby Little Davey (cuz he was short) Davey not Lady. Recorded by the Swampers in Muscle Shoals. There's a movie about them, they backed up Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Rolling Stones and had Dwayne Alman living in a tent in the studio parking lot.

@@scottblakey1603 Thank you for catching that. I hate copyright infringement.
@@sleestak42 What do you mean "no"? The intro and bass are blatantly taken from "The Liquidator" by the Harry J All Stars. A quick listen confirms it.

@@Puckhog Hello my friend. I have been six months sober, I have a new place, just finished a course for a new job and I feel incredible. I found a real sense of calm and I'm doing my best to help others in the same situation. Thank you for your kindness. Without the support of kind souls like yourself I wouldn't have made it this far. Much love.
I often forget about this post and then every now and then I get a notification saying someone liked the message. It's such a good feeling to know people out there are kind and supportive to a stranger on RUclips! My life is going great, I have a wonderful partner and I am on my way back to being a Fire Fighter again. Something I thought I had lost forever. Thank you for all your kindness, I do my best to put that out in the world moving forward. The little things do make a huge difference.
I was 17 when this song came out, it was perfect for civil rights, and it's still perfect for church.
Amen and Amen !

This song’s beautiful and so meaningful. This song says so much and with not a lot of lyrics but the message, the groove and that era was so powerful. No matter your race; freedom, enjoying life is universal. As a kid back in the 70’s I do remember the good times and coming together in the neighborhood. What a classic by a classy music loving family. Peace out ✌️
it's a classic .just watched secretariat and it was in that when they're dancing around the horse . great timeless classic that never gets old or outdated ..this song music and lyrics really speaks to me . about going into new territory and victories

Yep, and done by the Muscle Shoals Swampers, and bunch of white guys! Awesome
I know a place, nobody crying there...
lying to the races...... what was that line about?
@@SkyBlue-ju5il I'm 65 and I've listened to the Staple singers for decades. They're talking about politicians who lie to minorities promising them free stuff like food stamps ( EBT card), free housing in tenement buildings infested with rats ( I remember those in the 60s), free this free that promising Blacks and Hispanics the moon but almost never delivering anything but more crime and more generational poverty. See the song " Ball of confusion" where the singer says " Vote for me and I'll set you Free!"

Just a few words she has to use n it makes such a wonderful Song 🎵 n. So much sense, her voice is so mesmerizing . I Love her Voice
Very simply one of the funkiest jams ever!!!
At 1:50, when the bass guitar is featured, Mavis says "David, little David" - not "baby" or "lady". "David" is David Hood, bass player for the legendary Muscle Shoals session players "The Swampers", also mentioned in Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama."

She also sings "Play it Barry..." when the piano is featured, but it's missing from this video's lyrics.

This song is from way before my time, I first knew it from the enterprise rental car commercials in the 90s. I don't think I ever truly gave it a listen until my late 20s but wow there really is something magical, comforting and uplifting about this song.
