I was waiting for a video comparing X-T5 and Z f but this...this is the most intelligent video I've seen in a while. You have cut through all the self-serving hyperbole, the marketing, the hypercriticism, the sales pitch, etc.
I’ve been wanting that full frame ZF since the ZFC came out. Those small Nikon prime 26mm,28mm,40mm keep the full frame package more attractive. That monochrome switch is amazing especially for street photography.
I purchased the Nikon Zf the other day and the images coming out from this camera are mind blowing. Also, it is a joy to pair vintage Nikon lenses with this body. As a first time Nikon mirrorless camera user, I can say I’m really enjoying the Zf.
Great review! I would add that Fuji has a weight and size advantage by using lens designed for APSC, and many users like myself appreciate this over FF.
I owned Nikon during DSLR days but switched to Fuji with the x-t2 for many of the emotional reasons you bring up in this video. It was mirrorless, looked cool, was fun to shoot, and Fuji had a passionate community that shared their knowledge and film recipes. But I also immediately missed the dynamic range and image quality that I got from my Nikon. Some of my favorite images I’ve ever taken were with my x-t2 and x-t3, but last year I split my system and got a z6. Now, with the Zf, it may be time to let go of the Fuji gear and go back “home” to Nikon. I like the idea of having aps-c and full frame options on the same lens mount.
A fellow photographer used to shoot canon (5d Mark 2) and i a Nikon D750 (i stil use it for paid work). He switched to the Fuji Xt2 I think. I held it and hated how small it was. For street, portrait maybe it was ok but for a full day wedding shoot, the ergonomics were horrible. In fact imo no other brand offers the ergonomics of the Nikons. I now plan to sell my D750 (stopped doing weddings) and get the Zf for street and portraits.
Thanks for the detailed comparison. I’m a Fuji shooter, but am tempted by the Nikon Zf. However not happy that the Nikon lenses do not have aperture rings on them. What is the lens you have on the Zf in this video? It does look like it has an aperture ring. Thanks
Hi, Sony user here. I also got the Nikon Zf, my first ever Nikon. I took it around mumbai this morning but had kept output as jpegs. Will shoot some fast moving kids tomorrow and see raw quality and auto focus performance. I felt the 40 F2 which I bought with the body isn't sharp enough wide open. Will need to get an S series lens. Been following your vlogs lately since it's nikon focused. Look forward for more content from you (as I take my journey forward with Nikon). Thank you.
@@FramesTM thanks, will do :) Btw, I agree on your overall opinion on XT5. I used to shoot weddings with XT4 but it hanged on me a few times. The auto focus was limiting but was getting around it. But once I started to use Sony I got so spoilt 😅
@@FramesTM thanks! Wow I was thinking of getting the Helios 58mm f2 44m version 6 or 7 to adapt it on my fuji xpro3 for a mid tele portrait manual vintage lens , I might get it and use it also on the ZF and have that 50mm focal that I love. Is the TT artisan a Z mount?
This exactly. I've been shooting street for over 10 years. I learned photography on an Olympus OM-2 coupled with a 50mm 1.8. Some of best work was out of that kit. I've owned X100's, XT-2 and XT-4. This camera takes me back to those film days but you have the bonus of amazing focus capabilities combined with the modern technology and the depth of field and low light I am always craving with FF, but cannot get with Fuji. Cannot wait to get my hands on one of these things.
You made a great review compared to many others who have been doing this for a long time. I have been coming back to this, despite watching many others..
Hey Herbert that’s some tremendous words of encouragement and I truly appreciate when someone takes time to leave a comment on content that helps.. usually it’s when people don’t like something haha! See you around
I was almost set on an xt5 “I own both a z7 and x100v” but once the Zf was announced it was a no brainer. To still have a retro camera but full frame and not have to buy a different set of lenses. I haven’t put my Zf down yet and seriously considering selling the x100v now. It’s miles ahead of Fuji.
in terms of look I choose ZF becasue if has that small screen on top and brass dial, it build like a tank with powerful fetures, Im going to buy this camera as soon as possible and good review, keep it up.
Great review! I think one of the last points really nails it: amateur vs pro. for me, the xt-5 is at the very top range of what I would spend on a body and lenses. the nikon is more than 1k more and lenses are also not cheaper. its a hard comparison but for me as an amateur id take the xt-5 package
I watched this coming from the NIkon ecoSystem and thinkering with the idea of buying a XT-5 after years of working as a photographer and losing the joy of photography as it's just work that makes me bring out my camera out of the bag. I've seen a few videos where folks have raved about the Fujifilm ecosystem and wondered if that would restore some joy back to picture making for me. However, this video has confused me more lol. I hear a strong bias towards Nikon Zf and that makes sense to me too given that I would be more spec inclined over just buying a camera for hobbyist reasons. Thanks for comparing them and this has given me more to think about in terms of where my purchase goes.
Great video! Quick question; it seems on paper the ZF is better, but can the 40mmf2 or the 28mmf2.8 can compete with rhe new fuji primes like the xf18mm f1.4?
Those Fuji primes are expensive and stunning. The non S lenses are not so ‘perfected’ but have beautiful quality to them. Yes you can buy both in less than half the cost of that Xf18. It won’t be as good. But surprisingly good.
I bought the xt5 about a year ago and have been very happy with it; however, if I had known that Nikon would release a retro full frame camera this good I would have waited and bought it instead of my Fuji.
Thanks for putting this video out. I currently own a x100v and have been debating whether or not I should pick up the xt5 or the zf as my “work-based” camera. Sounds like picking up the zf would allow me to have the best of both worlds.
I too just discovered your channel while looking for this exact comparison. I appreciate the detailed look you provided. I'm a serious hobbyist who's been shooting with Nikon since 1980 with the FE, which I still own. I currently have the D500, which has served me well, however earlier this year I bought the Fuji x100v as a travel camera for a trip to Italy. I really love the camera however it was quite an adjustment from the Nikon system. I now want to upgrade to mirrorless for a second camera and am quite conflicted as to which of the 2 to purchase. I have to say from the "emotional" perspective, unlike what you said in your review, the Nikon makes more sense for me, however I'm still not at a point to be able to decide on either.
The technical and qualitative results definitely speak for the Nikon. For me, price and system size/weight (with lens) count, and Fuji remains my favorite here. I mainly take pictures on vacation and for fun, I rarely have extreme situations and then it just rushes a bit. The Nikon f is a very nice camera, but no reason to change from Fuji. However, a great secondary camera to the Z8.
I like your take on comparing these two cameras. You are spot on. I own three Nikon Z cameras and several full frame lenses. I use this system mostly for low light shooting. I purchased the aps-c Nikon zfc and the Z50 with several lenses a while back, but I became disappointed with Nikon's lackluster aps-c mirrorless system. You are correct that Nikon is basically for professionals (I am a part-time professional). I traded in my Nikon aps-c cameras and lenses for a Fuji X-T5 and a couple of lenses for everyday use and for travel. The Fuji X-T5 is more fun to shoot, and I shoot mostly jpegs with it. I love the film simulations and the layout of the X-T5. I use my Nikon mostly for professional use with RAWs and jpegs. I would advise Nikon full frame shooters not to spend their hard earned money on Nikon aps-c cameras and lenses. Fuji has a well established aps-c lineup of lenses and is attracting more third party lenses from Tamron, Sigma, and Viltrox. I thought after purchasing my XT-5 that I might want to look into Fuji's XH lineup for low light shooting, but I decided to purchase the Zf to supplement my Z8 and Z9. I have no doubt that the Zf has at least one stop higher iso capability than either the Z9 or Z8, which start to breakup a bit after iso 3200. I am glad to have watched your video and now my decision is much clearer now.
Great video, Frames! One of the best comparisons I have seen in a while. I've been extremely busy to go and pick up mine from the shop, but at least I know it's there and I won't have to worry about supply shortages. I also have a Z fc and a X-T4. I prefer the build quality and ruggedness of the X-T4 over the Z fc. Heck, even my Z-T20 feels more rugged than the Z fc! However, I have much more Nikon glass to go with the Z fc, so I end up using it most often. I suspect the Z f will become my new daily shooter.
@@roybixby6135 "Z fc", as opposed to "Zf". I've handled the Z fc and it's definitely not as rugged as an X-T4 or an X-T20. The Zf should be on the same level or superior though
@@roybixby6135 I had my Z fc at launch on July 2021. And just before I replied here, I went back to X-20 and the Z fc an d held them both simultaneously to make sure I'm not imagining things. So, yes, despite being smaller, the X-T20 feels more rugged and tightly built than the Z fc. Maybe you have an older or a lower end X-T model.
Thanks for the review...looking forward to your inndepth on Zf..especially how the retro dials of ISO/shutter complement or compromise with front and back dials..and menu settings.. Cheers
Hello again, I purchased the Nikon Zf and here is my VERY SUBJECTIVE personal experience. 1. The Zf is no doubt it's a low light monster and a very good all-arounder for this stills only photographer. I still might keep it JUST because it's the only full frame camera in my collection. I sold off my D750 and have missed FF since. 2. I love using the F-Z adapter and having so many lens options! 3. It's a gorgeous piece of work! However, I will be in the minority I'm sure because could not get around these things on the Zf: 1. The feel of the camera is premium but not as comfortable for my small hands as the X-T5/X-H2S. Then again, I love small cameras. 2. I could not get around the autofocus system options versus the X-H2S. I was schooled on Nikon 35mm cameras and DSLRs when we really didn't have the plethora of AF choices. Now trying to adapt to Nikon's AF feels like an extra step for my brain. I set the drive mode on my Fujifilm camera with the flick of a button and have a custom button to switch to AF-C plus subject detection and I never have to worry about 3D versus Wide, versus small, etc. The one autofocus does it all for what I need. 3. The d-pad is heavy and not as fun to use as a joystick. 4. The whole ISO button issue is workable but not convenient. 5. I have way more custom button options on my Fuji cameras. 6. The out of camera JPGs are lovely but in reality the RAW images seem ever so slightly clinical to me. I miss my Fuji colors! At the end of the day, what you said about Fuji being an emotional experience is so true. Ever since I got a hold of the X-T20 back in 2018, I have been so driven to shoot. No other brand has done that for me except maybe Ricoh GR point and shoots. I think if you are a street photographer and grew up with Fujifilm, the Zf will be either a LOVE it camera or it will be one that feels too awkward of a transition and for me, it's the latter.
@@FramesTM Thank you. I agree with you that it's not at all about the Zf being a "Fuji Killer" and that both can run in parallel with different approaches and purposes. I am a street photographer who does NOT use Fujifilm recipes and only shoots RAW. Being nimble on the streets is my primary priority. However, I desire that full frame look and IQ is extremely important as well. Then there's weight - bird and wildlife require speed and proper autofocus and I also need to keep weight down. So, yes - as you say, it's a conundrum! Also, I really wish that Nikon had a full lineup of lenses with a working depth of field scale. Shooting street photography with the Nikon Zf would then be an experience. I have another 30 days to decide so I look forward to your next video! Perhaps whatever you post might help me find more to love about the Zf! As an aside, what cards are you using? I get errors writing to the card on the Zf. It's a SanDisk UHS-II class 3, 280mbps. I'm waiting for another card to come because the others are not ideal.
I'm an X-T5 hobby street photographer. I'm often envious of full frame capability in low light. But, at the end of the day, I can run my X-T5 with a terrific daytime lens for notably less carrying weight in my hand than the Nikon XF. I also don't want the Nikon's flippy-screen when I'm in busy city crowds etc, in case it gets knocked, etc. Those simple differences are important for me, as I often walk for 10 miles with a camera in my hand. Otherwise, yeah the capabilities of the Nikon would easily tempt me.
You bring out some good points, but the difference between the Fuji APSC and Nikon FF is greater than you think. After sticking with Fuji APSC for over a decade, I recently sold all that gear and swapped over to Nikon Z. It was the best thing I ever did for my business. My customers noted the difference in image quality and I had many comments regarding how my images looked so much better. If you don't nail the exposure with the Fuji - even in base ISO - and try to pull up shadows, the image will turn to custard (try doing this at ISO 6,400 with the Fuji, but with Nikon I can). Fuji seems OK for amateurs, but not for professional photographers. I could go on, but I love my two Z6ii's so much and I now have 6 of their Z lenses. Nikon absolutely killed the Zf with the silly screen. If you are 100 percent stills photographer like me, you do not want a stupid screen like that. Just as well my Z6ii's are so good, I do not need to update.
Fuji X-H2 is a much better Camera compared to Nikon Z6II , I switched from Z7 to X-T4 . I was not happy with X-T4 then purchsed X-T5 and X-H2, and never looked back both are 40 MP, Image quality is superb .These days Fuji cameras are amazing. Fuji Film Simulations are something you will never get on other cameras. I've Sony A74 as well.
I totally agree with comments, I myself are thinking of moving over Nikon Z8. Nikon lenses are superior to Fuji lenses and much cheaper Nikon f/1.8 compared to Fuji f/1.2.
@@FramesTM at night making use of available light on Apsc and help keep ISO down with less grain. I find 1/125 is good enough unless there’s major action. But with major action of course 250 is better at the potential cost of more grain per higher ISO. Again, great video.
Just in time as I was contemplating the XT5 vs the ZF. I have the XT5 but I'm primarily a Nikon shooter. I use the XT5 for street and travel and I pair it with the 23 1.2 Voigtlander or 18-50 Sigma 2.8. The ZF no doubt is superior in lowlight and AF tracking , but the flip out screen and lack of joystick keep me from ordering it . I enjoy using the two way hinge screen of the XT5 . The XT5 is a photography first camera while the ZF is a more all around camera. I’m resisting the ZF and will hold out for the Z6III to pair with my Z7. I also have a Nikon D810 which is still a pleasure to use when I feel like old school ( the first camera I made money with when I shot for money). Thank you , Frames . I enjoy your videos very much . I always look forward to your content .
I have been a Canon shooter for 30 plus years and just ventured into Fuji and for the following reasons, insane lens prices for new L lenses, lack of attention to customer opinions, crippling of features unnecessarily (Nikon is an exception to this), lighter weight and superb quality. There isn't a "bad" lens in the entire line up with Fuji, while you can't say the same about the "big" 3. Fuji listens, provides a lot of user friendliness and value. Don't compare an 85 mm f 1.8 to a 33-f.14 and pixel peep for what is in focus. You should try a 56 f1.2 latest edition with latest firmware and then comment. Maybe use a 50 1.4 on the Nikon too. A telephoto lens will always be more accurate as the image is magnified which helps autofocus accuracy. When I heard that Fuji doesn't have touch autofocus, I gave up watching any further. The Zf is priced $300 more in the US for the body and the lenses will all be more expensive too. Plus the camera is heavier and larger which may not provide for a better experience, if carrying it around all day or packing it for travel. Plus Nikon seem to have recalls on new cameras like the Z8 which doesn't inspire confidence, and I hate someone handling my new camera for repairs when they really ought to send you a new fixed one.
Sir, you reserve the right to make yourself happy with your opinions. I own both systems. > If you teach me how to use touch tracking in video af on Fuji Xt5, send me your account number, I will send you inr 5000. > The 85 Z is one of Nikon’s slower lenses. And the 33 1.4 is one of Fuji’s faster lenses (forget the 56 1.2. That’s SLOW). > Notice that she kept walking forward and so even if I take the shots where she’s same size in the frame, Fuji still loses. > Fuji lenses, right from 35mm equivalent to 85 equivalent, are much more expensive than the Z lenses. (In my market) > Lastly, the cheapest plastic bayonet lenses ok Nikon are faster than most Fuji lenses. > You’re probably new to Fuji. I used Viltrox lenses for years just to get my Xt3 focus consistently in video. Xt5 is faster than Z6II. But slower than the new gen Nikons. End of story.
In fact it is the exact contrary, since when wider lens are worst at autofocus. In fact wider lens have deeper focus thus mote chance photos being in focus.
Question: When you mount a dedicated manual focus lens to the Zf, can you control the aperture (in either Aperture Priority or Manual modes) via the aperture ring on the lens and retain full aperture metering? Or do you still have to futz about with the dials on the body to control the aperture?
@@FramesTM I see no reason why this wouldn't work. The nice little aperture screen on top will not show your aperture since there is no electronic connection with the lens to send that information. The rest should work fine, when you stop the aperture down on the lens, the sensor receives less light and will thus compensate for this by increasing the exposure time and/or ISO.
Was this with the new firmware on the X-T5? I am very tempted by it, I prefer taking pictures in JPG and like the lens line up, but the AF comparison to NIkon is a big deal....
Kindly guide me as i am confused between the two. I shoot students in school in outdoor sports, indoor class activities, low light stage performances. Which is the best camera for me out of the two and why do you think so..??
Thanks for this comparison. I was a long-time Nikon user including the D850, but then the mirrorless kept calling me and I liked the retro design and smaller lenses of the Fuji, but the XT2 and X100s just didn’t have very good autofocus. So I moved to Sony with the A7RIII… but this definitely has me pulling back (along with the Z8). What is the lens on the Zf in your image at 3:25?
Hi Frames - nice overview of both cameras. For me it comes down to full frame versus APS-C - this is why the Fuji will never be able to get my interest. If they made an XT-5 like camera that was full frame then the decision might be a little harder - but I think for shooters like you and those you are addressing here, you have done a great job at delineating the similarities and differences that should be considered between these two impressive cameras. Great work :) -PD
I have just taken nearly 2000 images in 10 days on holiday in Greece with the XT5, including quite a lot of low light, sunset, blue hour and night scenes. All hand held. I missed focus on less than 20 images and noise was well controlled. Do you have the camera set to focus priority or release priority? If the latter it may explain your poor hit rate.
Also the XT5 retails for 1699GBP in the UK, whereas the Nikon is 2299GBP. That's a big difference. The Fuji is a lot lighter. And if you buy the best Nikon glass it is going to be much heavier, larger and more expensive. I understand why people are doing the comparison but really it's like comparing apples and bananas. Both are great cameras and have their markets.
For afc I always set it to release priority. Focus priority for afs. Focus priority is supposed not give you any out of focus shots but definitely missed moments
Sorry, one other thing. I find back button focus works well as I find the shutter release on the XT5 is quite sensitive and can fire easily if on release priority
If I want practical and fun experience and going to shoot manual lenses in mind like Laowa 15mm macro, TTArtisan 50mm Tilt and TTArtisan 100mm 2X Macro, would you suggest me to get Sony A7RV for the 4 ways screen which can be use for videos sometime or Nikon ZF for the full manual dials experiences? Which one has the easiest reliable set it once and forget profiles setting for each lens that I can switch to easily to produce similar SOOC real life color across all lenses? I shoot video mainly with Panasonic HC-X1500 camcorder but when I do specialised videos I will use the camera as well. My favorite color is yellow he ce I do love the Panasonic and Nikon menu theme and also the Nikon logo and theme throughout their products and design, wish their lens has yellow manual focus labels like the 0.95 lens tho! Is these classic dedicated dials really fun or just marketing and just different experience from the typical PASM like when you travel to different place to have some fresh experience, which mean th fun for classic shooter might become PASM camera? Zf do have both world tho and seem like it's easy to switch to auto mode when you need to by turn it all the way to the back I hope there will be a true rangefinder full frame hybrid camera with EVF when you need it plus come with the A7RV 4 ways screen because I like the FPS experience of the rangefinder where you can see your lens and matching the image to focus!
Selling my XT-5 and many lenses in order to get the Zf and 2-3 lenses. I also own MANY MF lenses and the Zf enables one to use those in a modern environment especially thinking about its face/eye detection even with manual focus glass.
I am in love with Fuji film sims. I want the ZF for full frame and because I own Nikon lenses. How easily can I replicate Fuji film sims in a batch fashion (I am thinking some kind of LUT in Lightroom, though correct me if my technical understanding is failing me)?
@@FramesTM Thanks for the reply. A bit disappointed with the latest firmware the hit vs miss is still not looking promising. Again, comes down to use case but this certainly have swayed my decision. Thanks for the good work!
I want to be fair. The Xt5 is my favourite. Love it. In most situations, the AF is brilliant. It’s in really low light situations where the subject is moving where Fuji is behind the Sony Nikon and Canon. That’s all. Which means it’s a “specific use case”.
I'm looking forward to the camera comparisons of the Nikon ZF and the Sony 7R4. The question is how competitive the ZF can be against a very good Sony camera. Thanks.
why compare a $1996 24Mp camera to a $3198 61Mp Camera?? they aren't just 2 very good cameras, they belong to different product categories. A barbecue and spaghetti bolognese are both food, and i'll have one or the other deppending on circumstance, but comparing them to each other just because they are 2 delicious kind of food doesn't make much sense without the proper circumstance...
Hello, can you tell that how it will feel for using Nikon Zf for wildlife photography with 180-600mm..?? kindly tell about its handling with that lens..!!
Well they are two different formats. Fuji wins because of Apsc lens selection. Zf wins because it accepts all Z full frame lenses.....not a fair comparison
I still don't understand why Fuji's AF still can't catch up with others. Canon and Nikon cames to the Mirrorless game much later than Fuji yet the autofocus is already on par with Sony, now these 3 are leaving Fuji behind. I think Fuji just don't put enough money on their R&D especially on the AF department. The inconsistency of the Fuji's AF (very lens dependent) is very annoying and shouldn't happen. Even with adapted lenses, Sony/Nikon's AF is still doing much better than Fuji.
Yes that’s true. But you know what… I still my Fujis irrespective of that! I’m not complaining… I can make that af work. It’s plenty good. Super good for what I use it for. Nikon, Canon and Sony systems are made for sports and wildlife. So they need to operate at the cutting edge of AF tech. Not Fuji. For Fuji, it is and should be about the pleasure of photography.
Have been waiting for a comparison between Xt5 and Zf. Have always enjoyed experience of Fuji especially with the screen on Xt2 & Xt5 for landscape, but for low light I use Nikon. My Z50 struggles a bit in low light which is one reason the Zf appeals, plus better processor & tech. The new styling in full frame is very appealing. Cons are the flippy screen and the grip, can’t wait till I have saved enough to go Zf. Thanks forvthis comparison, 👏
I think Fuji definitley has more of a culture around creating products that inspire whereas Nikon is mostly all business. But I think Nikon is looking to change that with the Zf. I've always preferred Nikon on paper but preferred the look and feel of Fuji. Nikon has brought me close enough with the Zf where I don't have to compromise.
Did you update your fuji before this test because fuji updated the af speed & accuracy/tracking by alot in that update. Every point is perfectly chosen & i agree wholeheartedly. But I think the xt5 is far worse build quality compared to zf. Another thing viltrox 1.2 lenses turn fuji into a pro ff camera. They are epitome of value & quality if you have those then there is little to no difference between ff vs apsc. Ofc apart from those 1.2 on ff but then they will be even bigger than fuji setup.
Not sure why no one talks about this, but I can't be the only one. When comparing systems. I missed the Fujifilms shutter button. I thought I could get used to Nikons, but it's just not as satisfying as Fujifilm.
HI Frames do you know how to do a wet swab clean of the ZF sensor seeing that the sensor is not locked when the cameras is turned off? Do you need to do it with the camera turned on like the Fuji X cameras?
I am yet to receive a response on this from Nikon, but I suppose it makes sense it keep the camera switched on and keep the tension going when cleaning the sensor. But I would do that ONLY if I do not have access to ANY Nikon service centre anywhere near.
Why I’m sticking with Fuji. Number one reason is the small size and the lower cost lens prices. Also the auto focus is quite improved from where it used to be. You can improve that with the newer linear motor lenses. Also I use limit focus on the slower lenses. Too much invested in switching systems, as I’m more concerned with getting the image and I can do that with this camera. Too much time spent comparing cameras and less shooting! I’m actually more interested in Fuji making a large format camera with a fixed lens of a 24 mm like the x100v. But I liked the review! 🖖
serious incoming photographers/videographers/vloggers and even experienced folks need comparison like this to make informed decision on which camera suits their needs.
I currently have an X-T5 and seriously considered the Nikon ZF, but couldn’t get past it only having 24MP. Instead, I purchased a used Nikon D850. I may buy a ZF if Nikon ever adds more MP.
@@FramesTM In European countries XT-5 is €1800 and Nikon ZF is selling for €2200, With this difference you can buy a Fuji lens. So the difference in price with the combination of bodies and lens will be bigger.
I had the s5. Nice one but sensible to shutter vibrations. Ex Nikon shooter (F801, F4S, FA, F90x) then Sony A7RIV, paired with … Fuji XE4. This ZF is quite interesting 🧐
First off thanks for attempting to answer a vexed query. In my opinion the nikon is a better photographic tool while the fuji will excel in creating amazing colours!
Pure colors: Fuji and Nikon are neck to neck. But for portraits you can fine tune skin tone beautifully on Nikon. For recipes are a Fuji thing. Zf has many more profiles now and you can customise them to a limited extent.
@@FramesTM Soon I think the community will create film recipes for Nikon too, Fuji started with film simulation but the community is the one created the recipes. It's just matter of time Nikon has the same thing.
@@FramesTM getting the Zf, i already have lenses for my Z8, so the Zf would be a nice second camera, and to be honest, i really like more the Z lenses than the fuji for low light.
Frames, a better comparison is Sony A7C II vs Zf, A7C II is an upgraded A7 IV, Zf is upgraded Z6 II. I don’t think Nikon should do a Z lens with physical aperture stops, they could design some sort of haptic feel to the control ring or a digital sound when it is set for aperture use. What I would love for Nikon to do on the video stabilization area, is to make that as close to a gimbal like experience as possible. Sony’s Dynamic stabilization on the ZV-E1 and newer bodies are paving the way to what’s possible. Sure, it’s labeled as a vlogging camera but it carries a full frame sensor. The Zf has newer tech than other Nikon cameras and that would have been a really competitive feature to pull in more young buyers. I like what Nikon has done with the Zf but, compared to the tech in Sony’s (not buying it) A7C II for video use, it shows Nikon still has some things to improve. I’m on the fence with the Zf, love the new features and tech introduced in it, don’t like that the grip isn’t bigger and you need to add aftermarket accessory to it and the screen doesn’t open up fully, from the back of the camera. I think Canon and maybe Sony has some screens that does this, minor thig but, annoying. Had my hands on one the other day and I had the FX30 with me, which has a similar flip forward screen and I thought the port cover may have not have been closed properly. I miss my A7R V’s multi-angle screen, Nikon, give us that sort of screen on the Z6 III, please! Great video frames!
I'm just gonna say this straight out mate if you're missing that many shots you're doing something wrong seriously I'm a Fiji user and I never miss that many photos so there is something you're doing wrong potentially either unsteady hands or you haven't got the camera set up properly because there's no way you can miss that many shots impossible you're doing something wrong. I have had my Fujifilm XT5 for probably seven months, and yet occasionally it does miss. I probably miss about 5% of my shots, but nothing like the percentage you were missing so there is something clearly you are doing wrong.
@@FramesTM have you updated the firmware there was one particular lens which wasn't great which was the 56 1.2 which is the old version but that was more to do with the lens the other part I do also is I make the focus square a little bit bigger this will help as well but I reckon you've got a faulty xt5 on your hands that doesn't seem right
I second this. This amount of missed shots in focus is almost unbelievable. At least, it is far from.mynown experience, even with an X-T3 my hot rate was much higher. No matter the 5y experience with Fuji...some goes wrong here. I'm not saying the numbers presented here are wrong ..but there has to be (a set of ) settings wrong....
There is a huge difference in pixel pitch. These cameras are not really comparable 1:1. And why are you spending so much time [mental masturbation?] on video crap with photography cameras?
You clearly do not know how to properly use the Fuji camera. I’m still using the X-T3 and I have NEVER missed so many shots. I’ve used the camera for sports, wildlife, portraits, and events. The only other possibility is that you have an agenda that you are trying to promote with this video.
I agree. For some it’s not a conceivable comparison. Very high number of people like us are dumb. Sorry you have to live with it with your superiority intact.
I was waiting for a video comparing X-T5 and Z f but this...this is the most intelligent video I've seen in a while. You have cut through all the self-serving hyperbole, the marketing, the hypercriticism, the sales pitch, etc.
❤️
You have an amazing voice. Very soothing and you’re talking about cameras, a win-win!
Hey thank you! That’s a great comment
What did you use before the Nikon ZF?
What adapter do u use for vintage lens?
@@cj7073 I use the Nikon FTZii adapter.
Great comparison video! I appreciated all of your comments on each of these cameras.
Great review! I would add that Fuji has a weight and size advantage by using lens designed for APSC, and many users like myself appreciate this over FF.
Niko ZF is a no brainer. I already sold my nikon Z6 to buy the ZF... Finally, a camera I can hold forever 🥰🥰🥰
Thank you.
Yes. Also switch off noise reduction in your settings.
Definitely get the 50mm
@@FramesTM thanks, will do :)
Btw, I agree on your overall opinion on XT5. I used to shoot weddings with XT4 but it hanged on me a few times. The auto focus was limiting but was getting around it. But once I started to use Sony I got so spoilt 😅
@@FramesTMwhich 50mm lens would you recommend for the Nikon ZF?
@MarcoMarfia 1. 50 1.8S, 2. 50 1.8G adapted, 3. Helios 58 f2, 4. Ttartisan 50 f2
Nice review. I think the Zf will be a big hit with street photographers especially film shooters who want the full frame experience in digital.
I highly doubt it. Nikon doesn’t have the colors or film simulations. Film shooters will choose fuji
@@AmstedamVallonyou mean to say ZF will be more satisfying than a Fuji for your purpose? Won’t you miss the Fuji colors?
@@nivin3Nah, half the time I shoot in RAW with Fuji anyways and work the photos in post.
@@AmstedamVallon I think the fuji autofocus is superior to the one of nikon. Nikon af is often unreliable while xh2s accurately hits focus
It’s miles ahead of Fuji.
lol I sold my X100V when the Zfc came out. Never looked back… Now I’m waiting for my Zf

@@cameronhanksphotography1801 Yeah seems like it and am super excited, but I pre-ordered 6 days late and now gotta wait for 6 months.
in terms of look I choose ZF becasue if has that small screen on top and brass dial, it build like a tank with powerful fetures, Im going to buy this camera as soon as possible and good review, keep it up.
The Fuji is $300 less than the ZF.
This was a quite well thought and put video. As a Nikon/Fuji shooter myself I agree with his insights.
I just discovered your channel and enjoyed this informative video, thanks a lot! I also love the organic and somewhat mysterious backdrop. Very nice!
Hey thank you!
Yea I agree. Especially when you have taken care of your Fuji thirst with the x100v
Hold on a bit. Let me do a couple more videos… I think it will be clearer to more people
The technical and qualitative results definitely speak for the Nikon.
Thank you Stan
Great video, Frames! One of the best comparisons I have seen in a while. I've been extremely busy to go and pick up mine from the shop, but at least I know it's there and I won't have to worry about supply shortages. I also have a Z fc and a X-T4. I prefer the build quality and ruggedness of the X-T4 over the Z fc. Heck, even my Z-T20 feels more rugged than the Z fc! However, I have much more Nikon glass to go with the Z fc, so I end up using it most often. I suspect the Z f will become my new daily shooter.
How long have you had the Zf ?
Mine is much better built than my XT ... 🦘

However, I will be in the minority I'm sure because could not get around these things on the Zf:
It’s a great analysis Juliette.. I’m doing to do more videos on using the Zf and discover the Zf experience fully
Great review Frames 👍
Thanks Luke!
Fully agree
Traditionally we hold camera and focus with left hand and press shutter with right hand, hence no need for big grip e.g., Leica M.
True true
Nice video, however I have a small query about the lens that fixed on the ZF camera, which is really looks beautiful
Watch my latest video! I have mentioned it there
You bring out some good points, but the difference between the Fuji APSC and Nikon FF is greater than you think.
For a lot of you, the Z6II is still unbeatable value and performance. Yes truly, the ZF does very very well in high ISO
I've Sony A74 as well.
millions of vloggers will be happy with the flippy screen
Well that's lovely - I'm very happy for them!@@VIDEOVISTAVIEW2020
I totally agree with comments, I myself are thinking of moving over Nikon Z8. Nikon lenses are superior to Fuji lenses and much cheaper Nikon f/1.8 compared to Fuji f/1.2.
Great video. Why shoot at 1/250 in low light? Seems to high for most night uses.
So that’s there’s no blurry shots
Thank you J!
(In my market)
> Lastly, the cheapest plastic bayonet lenses ok Nikon are faster than most Fuji lenses.
What a wonderful video! Thank you so much for your thoughtful insights.
Thank you Stephanie!
Question: When you mount a dedicated manual focus lens to the Zf, can you control the aperture (in either Aperture Priority or Manual modes) via the aperture ring on the lens and retain full aperture metering? Or do you still have to futz about with the dials on the body to control the aperture?
Depends on the lens per se, not al Z lenses have dedicated aperture rings. I recommend to check the lenses first
Very good question. Will check and report back here.
Yes the manual focus lenses have control via aperture ring
@@FramesTM I see no reason why this wouldn't work. The nice little aperture screen on top will not show your aperture since there is no electronic connection with the lens to send that information. The rest should work fine, when you stop the aperture down on the lens, the sensor receives less light and will thus compensate for this by increasing the exposure time and/or ISO.

That’s a surprise cool Lens! Video soon!

Great work :)

Finally! This video was missing a comment from you Baron! Haha I’m looking forward to your video! When???
Sorry that should say I sometimes use release priority and AFC for street.
Zf do have both world tho and seem like it's easy to switch to auto mode when you need to by turn it all the way to the back
I hope there will be a true rangefinder full frame hybrid camera with EVF when you need it plus come with the A7RV 4 ways screen because I like the FPS experience of the rangefinder where you can see your lens and matching the image to focus!
Selling my XT-5 and many lenses in order to get the Zf and 2-3 lenses. I also own MANY MF lenses and the Zf enables one to use those in a modern environment especially thinking about its face/eye detection even with manual focus glass.
The eye detection in manual focus is so so easy and convenient.. explore all beautiful manual lenses
I am in love with Fuji film sims. I want the ZF for full frame and because I own Nikon lenses. How easily can I replicate Fuji film sims in a batch fashion (I am thinking some kind of LUT in Lightroom, though correct me if my technical understanding is failing me)?
NICE VIDEO BUT MY FRIEND YOU USE DIFFERENT LENCES ,, HOW YOU EXPECT A FAIR SIMILAR COMPARISON ? ESPESSIALLY IN FOCUS TRACKING ?
May I check what firmware version is on your X-T5 when doing this comparison or review? Was it on the latest version already?
Of course! It’s my camera so I want it to perform flawlessly.
Thanks.
Cool that’s a good question
why compare a $1996 24Mp camera to a $3198 61Mp Camera?? they aren't just 2 very good cameras, they belong to different product categories.
Performance and autofocus will be amazing. Just like Z8. But while holding it, while shooting wildlife with a large lens… it’s grip is not that large.
Considering only for video, which one you recommend sony fx30 or nikon Zf
Sony Fx30
AF on Fuji X-H2(s) works very well. In some cases better, even Z8 or Z9. In the video AF is not so good
@@FramesTM I slightly disagree. There is no reason you can’t shoot action and sports with Fuji, especially the xh2s.
Yes it’s updated. Have the Viltrox
One question, why is your peak design cuff clip/thread on the other end (instead of the end where the grip is) for XT5
It’s not visible. But of course it’s there on the other end
Not sure why no one talks about this, but I can't be the only one. When comparing systems. I missed the Fujifilms shutter button. I thought I could get used to Nikons, but it's just not as satisfying as Fujifilm.
Yes the Fujis are softer
Sir who clicks more detailed and sharpest pic?
HI Frames do you know how to do a wet swab clean of the ZF sensor seeing that the sensor is not locked when the cameras is turned off? Do you need to do it with the camera turned on like the Fuji X cameras?
I am yet to receive a response on this from Nikon, but I suppose it makes sense it keep the camera switched on and keep the tension going when cleaning the sensor. But I would do that ONLY if I do not have access to ANY Nikon service centre anywhere near.
@@FramesTM Thanks Frames. The answer I got from Nikon Australia was just that - send it a Nikon service centre. Interesting
These are not sports shooting bodies. So super fast af may not be the most important thing
serious incoming photographers/videographers/vloggers and even experienced folks need comparison like this to make informed decision on which camera suits their needs.
If you are buying latest new fuji glasse it's very expensive 33 1.4, 23 1.4 wr all are expensive.
excellent comparison. thank you
Thank you
I currently have an X-T5 and seriously considered the Nikon ZF, but couldn’t get past it only having 24MP. Instead, I purchased a used Nikon D850. I may buy a ZF if Nikon ever adds more MP.
What’s wrong with 24mp? Higher mp are lower quality output overall contrary to popular belief.
So would you trade a Fuji x-t4 for the Zf? I’m having a hard time deciding…all comments welcome!
I skipped the Xt4 and went straight for the Xt5. Xt5 and Zf are great combo
Are this cameras in the same price?
Well almost! Zf is still a couple of thousand $ more I think
@@FramesTM In European countries XT-5 is €1800 and Nikon ZF is selling for €2200, With this difference you can buy a Fuji lens. So the difference in price with the combination of bodies and lens will be bigger.
Interestingly the 1st Fuji digital camera was made by nikon
That’s interesting to know
I had the s5. Nice one but sensible to shutter vibrations. Ex Nikon shooter (F801, F4S, FA, F90x) then Sony A7RIV, paired with … Fuji XE4. This ZF is quite interesting 🧐
First off thanks for attempting to answer a vexed query. In my opinion the nikon is a better photographic tool while the fuji will excel in creating amazing colours!
i have one big problem with my fuji gear : the AF . my old Sony A7III is stil bether than my fuji xt5 and xh2s .
I mean it’s true for some scenarios. The a7iii can’t detect birds and wildlife
They say Fuji colors are better…any advise for a joeg shooter and addicted to Fuji film recipes?
What exact advice you looking for?
@@FramesTM what do you feel Nikon color profiles? Are they comparable to Fuji film recipes?
Pure colors: Fuji and Nikon are neck to neck. But for portraits you can fine tune skin tone beautifully on Nikon.
For recipes are a Fuji thing. Zf has many more profiles now and you can customise them to a limited extent.
@@FramesTM thanks for the reply much appreciated
@@FramesTM Soon I think the community will create film recipes for Nikon too, Fuji started with film simulation but the community is the one created the recipes. It's just matter of time Nikon has the same thing.
I’m think of selling my t-t5 setup now…
And get which one?
Been using Fuji for 5 years
@@FramesTM have you updated the firmware there was one particular lens which wasn't great which was the 56 1.2 which is the old version but that was more to do with the lens the other part I do also is I make the focus square a little bit bigger this will help as well but I reckon you've got a faulty xt5 on your hands that doesn't seem right
I second this.
He did test it in a low light situation and moderate high iso situation, so may be not the situation you are shooting, so that explain the difference.
Your comment is confusing. Do you think he is doing something wrong or not?
pls fujifilm X-T50 vs Nikon ZF
Xt50 has the same specs with xt5. The difference would be the build quality
FE2 not FM2
FM2. Check the shutter button
Fantastic :)
Thank you!
Great
xt5 apsc sensor in a ff body makes no sense to me
There is a huge difference in pixel pitch. These cameras are not really comparable 1:1. And why are you spending so much time [mental masturbation?] on video crap with photography cameras?
Because I like what I ejaculated. And it’s some fine stuff
You clearly do not know how to properly use the Fuji camera. I’m still using the X-T3 and I have NEVER missed so many shots. I’ve used the camera for sports, wildlife, portraits, and events.
The only other possibility is that you have an agenda that you are trying to promote with this video.
😆😆
Honestly, you are funny.
Fuji AF in low light (1/250, ISO 3200) isn’t that good.
Fuji have the worst AF of all brands!, and yes I own fuji
@@Quattro5081 I suppose you also own all the other brands.
Okay Steve, I will do a dedicated af test between these two cameras again and post a video. More elaborate…
@@FramesTM Please be sure to provide us with the focus setting for each photo. I am fairly confident that you are not setting them correctly.
Who wins? What a stupid question.
Haha is the grammar wrong?
However if you stop clenching down on your butt cheeks so hard when you speak, your videos would be inherently better. 🥔
😆
FF v.s Crop sensor is Incompatible comparison…. What a dumb comparison !!
I agree. For some it’s not a conceivable comparison. Very high number of people like us are dumb. Sorry you have to live with it with your superiority intact.
