I am still waiting for mine 😢. I have extreme ADHD so the Apple Watch is my daily second brain. I have the s5 aw at the moment, so it will be a huge upgrade. I work outdoors and my current Apple Watch dies around 4-5pm. So to get even a full day will be a bonus. I’m also hoping to get back out hiking and running for my mental health, hoping the ultra will be enough insensitive to get my behind in to gear. Love your channel and I’m an Apple man so no Google for me 😂. Could you do some videos with the ultra about productivity and second brain type stuff. I’m still trying to find the best way to use it. Take care mate
Yes, it is very annoying that you cannot run activity logging in two apps (there are exceptions, but very rarely) .Two days is still not enough for sport watch
I seem to accidentally press complications and the physical buttons more with the Ultra. And I feel like they could have gone much thinner on the bezels. But I love my watch! I feel like me and my watch got married and we’re gonna live a happy 2-4 years together before I trade her in 😂
this is one of my favorite videos from you thus far! Absolutely stunning quality and really informative!!! I really loved this! Also music clips top notch ♡♡♡♡ if i actually lived somewhere with walkable areas, I'd love to go on these walks. the scenery alone is worth it!!
😂 Question: Does it have to detect your heart rate or something to be used as payment method otherwise can’t anyone who grab a hold of your Apple Watch can charge your credit card…?
Subtitle to this video should be “things new dads will do to get a bit of peace and quiet”. 😊 Great video Mark. And awesome to see the stunning scenery of the Peaks- I grew up around there and miss those walks!
Hi Mark, just watched both the 4 month review and the hike & battery review, spot on, except for one point that has been annoying me about many of the Ultra gripes. Price! Why do most folks compare the price of a basic aluminum Watch 8 against the Ultra and not the top of the range Watch 8?? Ultra is the top of the Ultra range (there is only 1) as you quite rightly said at 849 GBP. But the top of the range Watch 8, stainless steel body with a stainless-steel strap is 1,029 GBP, the buckle is 829 GBP, and the braided strap at 779 GBP.... So Ultra therefore sounds Good Value! What do you think?
I worry too about bashing my AW. I am curious though to see if the Ultra is hardier than normal watches. Does it scuff etc. if you accidentally bang it on a door in an average day to day way?
Same question here because I have been using a AW SS S4 for a few years now and have banged it against a door jam a few times and not a scratch or ding on it. Love SS but since I’m a bit of a walker/ hiker I wanted to give this Ultra a tryout!! So far I’m liking it even if it’s a bit, ok a lot 😂 bigger on my skinny wrists but hey who’s looking- right?? 😀
Found this channel when I was looking for airpods max review and so far enjoying channel so much I’m coming back every time new video is up! I like this format, talking, honest review not paid to say nice words!
How accurate are the gps coordinates on the way finder watch face? On my ultra, they are always off by no less than a mile. Just want to know if it’s my watch or a Apple software glitch. Thank you
Thanks for the video, great work. Not really understand the problem with taking the ultra for a longer hike. I suppose you can quick charge it with a power bank on the go?
Excellent review. The amount of attention to detail is really impressive. Regarding the watch itself, this is the exact type of activity I’d do with the watch so it’s interesting to see how it’s like in real life. My only question is- was it running on LTE this entire time or was it connected to the phone?
What a well constructed video! With all the background setting up of passing shots and drone shots containing yourself in-frame, you must’ve walked at least an extra couple of miles. 😀
I took my ultra 2 on a hike last weekend it held up great backtracking is a life saver long stamina too and with the dual gps it’s accurate and signal is strong
Hi, First, I love your reviews. You've got a new subscriber from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I have to agree when you say this watch make us want to go out. When I first get my iWatch Series 6, I thought I was just going to wear it just like a normal watch. But, when I get the loop closing notifications, I thought it will be fun to see it closing everyday. And, lo and behold it did. It did got me a took up daily walking. Now, I am walking like 4 to 6 kilometres daily with 12,000 plus steps. That was quite an achievement for me. I am getting my Watch Ultra this 22nd and I cannot wait to use it and up my game, I have already planning a route for a hike. Not that extreme but just a simple hike around KL park. Love the review.
I’ve worn this with suits 3 times and it’s been perfect, see I wear what I want and really not wearing a watch or for that matter anything cause it’s for me and no one else. Always been someone who doesn’t follow.
I have yet to watch any review of the siren feature where I have been able to actual hear the siren! My hearing disability means have I have lost the ability to hear all high frequency sounds 🙁
Haven’t finished watching yet. Only half way through. But just had to pause to drop a comment. Those drone shots are GORGEOUS. Very Lord of the Rings!! OMG 🤤 okay back to the video and my breakfast…
Wow, finally internet famous for 5 minutes! Great video Mark and its nice to see people so engaged in their community of viewers. I work outdoors a lot of the time and this watch is right up my street. I think the Pixel Watch is gorgeous but maybe too nice? Looks like it would go more with a suit than a hike. Oh, and you got the name right 😊
Fantastic to find this vid; coincidently enough, I just got home from a hike. This morning I decided to test the power of the Ultra before saying goodbye to my Garmin Fenix 6. After a 9k. I’m sticking to my Garmin. I had the same problems as you; the workout app keeps stopping while checking my other apps (All Trails /Work outdoors). The side function buttons keep popping the compass when my jacket touches it. I’m in Canada, so that’s a problem. I decided to test the back track feature; it can be confusing for someone unfamiliar with the backcountry and a compass. As for looks and final thoughts, you are 100% right; the watch is just stunning. But as they said, all these years in the making. No TOPO Maps? Especially coming from a company that has its maps platform. It’s annoying to look at the phone while having a $1099(CAD) piece of gear on your wrist, that has no function when it comes to maps. WorkOutdoors is great but not the best. I’ll try again when the Ultra 2.0 comes out. For now, I think it is more for runners and scuba divers. Not hikers!
Really nice video!! 😊 I’m curious what the size of your wrist is. Would you mind sharing? I’m hoping my not-overly-thick wrists will be able to pull off the Ultra 😬
Oh and dunno if I asked on the first video: ever thought of flipping the watch orientation so the crown is on the left and the action button is on the right? Would be easier to avoid pushing the action button accidentally when pressing the crown.
About the workout app quitting on you...I've found all the way going back to the Series 5 at least that if it's raining, or you sweat a lot and the screen gets pretty wet, there will be random inputs on the screen. I've had workouts stop on me and had it start calling my emergency contacts. I've found that the only work around for this is that after you start a workout, swipe left and lock the screen. (this has become less of a pain now as you used to have to turn the crown to unlock it, but in the latest software, you simply have to press/hold the crown to unlock the screen) Would like to see you do charge testing. Purely anecdotal evidence of mine suggests that if you use older Apple Watch chargers, it seems to charge slower than if you use the charger that comes with it (even using the same "brick" that you connect to the outlet).
I do the same thing. When doing push-ups, or riding my motorcycle, I would always end up activating or stoping something. So I started locking the watch when doing these types of activities, and no more issues.
I think thats because the older watches uses the old usb or at least my series 6 did and the Ultra uses Type-C. I didn’t own a series 7 so wouldn’t know about that charger.
Do u know i have put my purchase on hold because of your upcoming sony vs sennheiser comparison video. Please make it soon 💜 Or just tell me what to buy and i would be very very greatful to you :)
I have loved this video, you got some breathe taking shots of the Peak District and I have learned a lot about the Apple Watch ultra, keep up the great work.
I just got one done a 10 mile run. The band not great as when its wet it takes long to dry I need the ocean band now. A bit big for my skinny wrist but overall seems a great watch.
Late to your content but really interested in the diving/swimming functions. Did you ever go fire a dive with it? Thanks in advance and I love the videos I've watched.
Hiking in the mountains of BC in Canada and tracking a downloaded trail on your watch eats the battery alive. I was absolutely shocked how little battery was left at the end of a 25 km hike. Yes I even had the watch stop just like you mentioned. You need a Garmin Epix or something similar to get the job done. I was truly shocked at what an energy drain it was but you do have the low power mode. I did not use that when tracking.
@@MarkEllisReviews Please don’t crash on purpose haha! Safety first! This only came up to mind as I remembered that one time I crashed while karting and it snapped my 13 pro in half (literally).
Next time you're curious about your distance, get your phone out and pull up Apple's Health app. The amount of data it collects and stores is amazing, but it will tell you your steps, your distance, the length of your stride, you name it, there's info on it. Metrics! Love those numbers and stats! Well except a few of mine are not that great (walking steadiness for example is an issue for me). I loved the video and all the sights. Your drone shots were fantastic. I quite enjoyed those!
It’s disappointing that the Apple Watch still has issues with workouts dropping out. My S3 used to be pretty unreliable. I would suggest trying the workoutdoors app. You can plot your route and navigate directly from the watch. Download your route to the watch beforehand as it saves your battery. My main reason for not getting the ultra was how nervous I’d be wearing it, too flashy to be confident it won’t get nicked. I ended up getting a garmin fenix and have to say it’s great to not have to worry about charging it every day, not as good as an everyday watch, a bit too bulky, but so much more reliable for tracking activities.
I am so torn around the apple watch ultra. I really want to upgrade my series 7 but it's not subtle enough for wearing to say work and other places. It stands out too much and the bands are too loud (though I know that's the idea).
I have it with the black trail loop and have to say it’s fine. Wouldn’t wear it to a wedding or owt, but for everything else it’s fine. Just avoid the Alpine loop or diving thing.
Just heard a podcast (Under the Radar) where a guy bumped his action button while hiking and it stopped his workout he had running; thinking something similar might have happened to you? Or when you switched apps, anyway thought it was interesting.
Can you test the sound quality improvements of Bluetooth 5.3 on the AW vs Bluetooth 5.0 listening through AirPods Pro 2’s? That would tell me if I would be better off listening to music through my AW Ultra vs my iPhone 13 Pro. Thanks for the great vid!
Thanks for the nice content. What issue did you encounter with the Workout app? Why did it track only 9 miles out of the actual 15 or so miles? Thanks.
As someone who’s already got an Apple Watch and has done the recent watch os update and has purchased an apple watch ultra, after watching countless RUclips videos, I feel like I’m the only one who’s got a bit of buyers remorse… apart from a new watch face and a siren which I’ve almost set off every time I do a functional workout annoyingly I don’t see what ‘extra’ I’m getting above my standard Apple Watch, especially for the price tag. It would be great if it had maps on the watch face whilst you are out hiking, meaning I didn’t have to keep checking my phone. Can someone point out if I’m missing something here as I’m on the verge of taking it back. I feel like I’ve been done by an annoyingly clever aspirational ad.
Activity automatically records your pace, steps, calories, distance and everything the walking outdoors tracking does. Maybe minius a few little things.
9:18 I’ve had mine 2 days and it’s been recognized twice when I was using it for Apple Pay, I think for some reason cashiers naturally look at your watch when you’re paying that way
Nice video 👍🏼 Personally I’d only ever get an Apple Watch if it can go at least 3-4 days without a charge. It’s also a turn off as I live in a city where it would be normal to walk into a coffee shop or most public places and see 70% of the people wearing one….
The screen is very strong, there is a video with someone dragging the ultra out a car on the road and the screen was unscathed. But I would put a case on it, mine has one. People on RUclips told me it was silly, but a watch that cost me £850 isn’t going to go unprotected. I put a screen protector on it as well. The screen might be tough, but my luck would be it gets scratched or smashed. Applecare covers the screen, but I’ll still protect it anyway.
What do you think about the Apple Watch Ultra's battery performance in this video? Are they onto something... or are improvements needed?
I am still waiting for mine 😢. I have extreme ADHD so the Apple Watch is my daily second brain. I have the s5 aw at the moment, so it will be a huge upgrade. Thank you! Lots more where this came from 😊
@@MarkEllisReviews hey bro, how can I contact you in private;cheers bro
Activity automatically records your pace, steps, calories, distance and everything the walking outdoors tracking does. Maybe minius a few little things.
Curious, do you have cellular enabled on the AWU?
Yes, but I had the phone with me.
9:18 I’ve had mine 2 days and it’s been recognized twice when I was using it for Apple Pay, I think for some reason cashiers naturally look at your watch when you’re paying that way
Amazing, can you write here the brief?
Best review ever 👍👍👍👍😎
Wow - thank you.
Nice video 👍🏼 Personally I’d only ever get an Apple Watch if it can go at least 3-4 days without a charge. It’s also a turn off as I live in a city where it would be normal to walk into a coffee shop or most public places and see 70% of the people wearing one….
Cheers. I think we’re a couple of years off that to be honest.
More please
Will it even track your work out in super battery saver mode?
I'd be super surprised if it didn't.
Can you do a bit of climbing with it?
Garmin Fenix 7S Solar Sapphire is the best outdoors watch that’s the size of a normal watch
3:07 prepare for a bumpy ride my friends!
Eh?
The screen is very strong, there is a video with someone dragging the ultra out a car on the road and the screen was unscathed. But I would put a case on it, mine has one. People on RUclips told me it was silly, but a watch that cost me £850 isn’t going to go unprotected. I put a screen protector on it as well. The screen might be tough, but my luck would be it gets scratched or smashed. Applecare covers the screen, but I’ll still protect it anyway.
You do what you need to do!
