in 2015 when I was told "you're not going to beat this" (and I did obviously), at the same time i was fighting for my life, country singer Joey Feek was battling cancer. And I will never forget something she said just before she passed away and it has stuck with me since then. she said "it's going to be ok, even if it's not ok". I was sick for 4 years, wrote my letters, gave things away and prepared to leave this world. Then I found a new doctor who literally saved my life. Don't give up yet, it's not over yet. Prayer, love, compassion, good nutrition, and positive energy from those around was priceless. Hang in there love, you're not alone. Sending you both love and prayers, positive thoughts.

Thank you for giving us an update and reminding us to live in the present and letting the future be what it is when it happens. I’ve adored Andrew from the first time I watched him turn to you and smile and call you “Doll”. I’m 65 years old and I haven’t given up that one day I will meet someone who will look at me with love in his eyes and call me “Doll”. You and he have been blessed to share such a love. My love to both of you.
Dear Andrea, when my mom was diagnosed with lung cancer, I became a horrible bitch to everyone except my mother. I sometimes hated taking care of her and the toll it had on my life, as I was writing my master thesis at university. I even discussed it with her, because I wanted her to understand that even though I did hate it, NOT doing it, not spending all the time I had with her, not talking to her and loving her and comforting her was infinitely worse. And I was grateful that this grizzly task was available for me, because it offered me a way to love her as she loved me all her life. So don't be too hard on yourself. No one is suited to this task. The only thing to do is doing it, without grace, patience or elegance, but still to just do it. Love and devotion are the rarest and sometimes ugliest of humans, but they are also the bare threads of life on which everything else is built. So be the madwoman in the forest, because what is life if not authentic. Also, to Andrew I would say that keeping the spirit alive is doing more that enough, day by day.
I looked after my sister when she had stage 4 breast cancer. There were alot of complications. I was exhausted, stressed and hungry most of the time. Dealing with my siblings was also challenging. When she died, I became trustee and guardian for the grandson she was raising. I'm saying this to say, I feel what you are and are not saying, and I have a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes, for you. That was 5 years ago. I'm in a good place emotionally now. I loved my sister so much, and am glad to have had that time with her.
If i were there with you, I would hold your hand and hug you. So I impart every bit of strength and encouragement to you and Andrew.

We continue to pray for Andrew and the doctors and nurses treating him. We continue to pray for Andrea and Madeline too.
It’s hard being a “get it done” person who is now in a situation you can’t actively control. Perhaps think of the current situation as a “season”... that this is your season of stillness, watching, waiting, walking (and, yes, fear). There will be other seasons that follow this one-seasons of working and home. Just as we can’t “get through “ winter or summer (they will last as long as they last), this is the current season of your life...not a pleasant one, but it’s visiting with you at the moment. Wonderful that you have the outlet of the natural surroundings to help you work out your frustrations. Be kind to yourself-you’re only human😊

This came about so fast...can't imagine going through what this family did. Andrew was so cool too. Gonna miss his interesting perspectives and ideas, the projects he would pick, watching him grow as a knitter, and the BEST smile.

I understand what you are going through completely. My late husband battled a rare form of neuroendocrine carcinoma for 3 1/2 years. I look back, 7+ years since his death, and realize the blessings that saw me through those frightening, daunting, and challenging years. Challenges of which I could never have conceived. And there were blessings too, in the midst of the fear. I am grateful for the lessons and the blessings.

A fellow neuroendocrine tumor survivor (so far), this is such an unpredictable disease. Was diagnosed in Aug 2020 and told, since it is slow growing, There could be 10 years of survival, but nothing is for sure. So waiting for each scan to come out NOD and inbetween living life as well as it is possible.
Bright and early this morning I was lying in bed being lazy watching you tube videos and I found a lovely couple talking about knitting together. He showed her a pair of green socks knitted with love for her! I showed my husband "look at this ! He knitted her socks exactly like the pair I just knitted for you, same colour and style " I just thought Andrew was the sweetest so I continued to watch with envy as he went on walk abouts while we are cooped up in the cold here in Canada. What a wonderful life you both were living! Who wouldn't want to have a life like that? A love like that?
Then another video came up showing your eulogy for Andrew. What a shock ! I had just found you both .
Now Andrew was taken away, a vibrant life cut too short. Life throws us so many curves sometimes, its not fair , it sucks but you have to deal with whatever life brings you.
Well, words cannot express the sympathy I feel, and I see its been about 10 months since he has passed .
I hope you have been able to start to adjust to life without him .
I am a retired nurse who took care and my dad and father in law at home , both dying of cancer , and now my 93 year old mother is failing and requiring constant care.
The thing with terminal cancer is there is and end to it, you see your loved one suffering and finally they are at peace. Though you miss them terribly , you would never want them back to be living through that weakened state again. I think it is one of the most rewarding things you can ever do for a parent or sibling or a spouse or even a friend , to support them through illness and through palliative care and the end of their life.
Even though it was all new to you, though you may have felt like you didn't know what to do , you were there! Through thick and thin, sickness and health..you did a great job you could see how much he appreciated it. I hope youwill be able to remember him the way he was, with his adorable grin and the sweet way he showed you he love.

Honestly, who would give this a thumbs down? Glad that the tumour has shrunk, that’s wonderful news. Hopefully, the break in treatment will give Andrew time to gain back some strength. Sending you healing vibes and thoughts of strength.

Being charitable i am wondering as there are so many that they are elderly, like myself, who are not very good with RUclips and by giving the thumbs down feel they are expressing their sadness at Andrew’s illness. Alternatively they might just be very unpleasant people.

We're getting to the point where we can reasonably stop waiting with knots in our stomachs for Andrew to get worse, and wait for him to finish getting better. He's lucky to have you, and we're all wildly lucky that he's in the care of excellent doctors.

Dear Andrea, When I battled stage 3 breast cancer my motto became "I'm gonna keep on living until the day I die". It does not matter how long we live, what matters is HOW we live. I totally understand your thinking of keeping a healthy and positive picture of Andrew in your mind. Making memories each and every day. Walking in the forest and letting out all emotions the way you describe is so very healthy! I wish, hope and pray that every day towards a full and complete recovery for Andrew, he will have at least one good moment! Something to feel grateful for and to smile about! Btw....it has now been 18 years since I went through the cancer thing!

I was just thinking of your family. We are cheered by the news that Andrew’s tumor is shrinking. I wish he was feeling stronger, however. It’s hard to see him so exhausted. Please don’t worry about putting out a new episode. You’ve got your hands full. All three of you are in my prayers. As I am a landscape painter myself, I enjoyed the video of Madeline painting. She’s quite talented and I’m sure communing with nature this way helps her to deal with the stress.
I will continue visualizing Andrew - happy and healthy - on extreme knitting adventures. Nature has such amazing healing powers. May she hold you both during this struggle.

This was a very hard episode to watch as my sons brain tumor has returned after 5 years of remission. As someone going through it I know there is nothing I can say to make it better. However I can sit beside you with my feelings of anger and intense sadness. I can also sit beside you and hope others can be thankful for the good things in their lives. I can also sit beside you as you are angry when others take their good fortune for granted. I can sit beside you and not judge. I can know when to just be quiet and sit beside you in your feelings.

I was so very sorry to hear of Andrew's passing. I was also diagnosed with a stage 4 inoperable cancer about 6 weeks after Andrew, and have not been following you journey, as mine is taking all of my energy. I could not agree more about the degree of exhaustion being orders of magnitude past anything I've experienced before. Thank you SO much for your perspective on this day as a caregiver -- I think it was the message I needed. Hugs and condolences to all your family.

Dear Andrea - there are so many lovely responses and I'm not sure if you're able to read them - I know nothing is the same when you're going through something like this. I sat for months next to my daughter, being told she would not live - but she did, and she's amazing. Everything that I knew went out the window - it was the first time I was in such distress, I couldn't knit - the one thing that had always saved me in times of stress. None of us are well-suited for this, not with our own loved ones. Be kind to yourself and I'm so glad the Black Forest is there for you, holding on to the most raw of emotions. It does teach us what matters in this world though - you are absolutely right. I've been thinking of you and Andrew the last few days so I must have known an update was coming! You're in my heart and thank you so much for the update. Andrew has a bit more brightness around him - perhaps it's in his eyes but I feel he's actually better than he was during your last update. Let's hang on to that and please accept my love and prayers for all of you. xx
I watch The Last Homely House and saw the quilt auction going on. I will join in and bid as much as I can. I am looking forward to watching your videos as well. I too have cancer and know how difficult it is for my loved ones. Your honest and beautiful words today were inspiring to me. Thank you for telling us about your feelings and Andrew’s prognosis. We all walk down this path, some sooner than others. It is hard to understand how something so inevitable can still feel so sudden. All we can ask for is the grace to take it in our stride.
Andrea you explained beautifully all I felt as my own husband was sick 10 years ago. I didn't have the beautiful Black forest in the background but a beautiful sandy beach without a body in sight. It did help to be able to "breathe " and let go of some frustration. Thoughts and prayers towards you with a little side trip to PayPal a few minutes ago.

You did a very good job with all the footage that you did in the Black Forest. Madeline is doing a lovely job with the painting. It’s always good to have a hobby away from the books when studying so that you can clear your mind a little and make space for more studying.

Dearest Andrea, Adding my thank you for the update and the courage you have shown in this and other videos you have put together since Andrew has become ill. Thinking of you ranting 'like a madwoman ' through the beautiful forest made me smile....sending my heartfelt thoughts and prays to you all x
I have also been a caregiver in a grave situation like you are now in and experienced such thoughts. You deepen your knowledge of yourself and your partner and this reveals the true depth of your love. I am glad you take time to care for yourself and to vent.
