I agree with alot of issue that you bring up, my biggest gripe is the fact that they are letting all these great players slip through their fingers! They would rather trade good players than pay FA's. How much money have they allocated so far this year? 50 million? Pitching and of course the injured pitcher we are paying that will probably already be sitting out all year!!!
The Roki situation kinda does come down to money. It’s not about the money he would get, I think he sees the ownership is not serious about winning and has noticed they have announced they have big plans for the offseason for three straight years and have gotten publicly embarrassed. The six man rotation is a gamble for sure. But as you stated, we seem to have more long relivers which would take the pressure off the rest the bullpen. And I do agree that this should not be a long term solution, but only as a longer leash to allow the starters coming off injuries to be able to ease back into the rotation. The Sox are going to need to be conditioned to be able to go deeper into the season without the wheels falling off late and losing a chance at a wild card.

For Sasaki it would not matter right away as everyone has the same amount of money to offer, but the fact he wanted to go to a team that would help him grow and become a better player and we have Bailey who should put us at the top of the list of candidates and we can't even get a sit down, means there is something out there on why FA don't want to come here. In terms of Pitching I do not like the 6 man rotation as it can really impact when a pitcher gets on a roll and then has to wait an extra day. Also if you are taking the starters out too early you have seen the impact of the bullpen by the middle of the season, it has happened 3 straight seasons where the pen starts out strong and then they are overtaxed by the break and it all falls apart. They still need to add a few arms that are reliable for the pen and either Scott or Hoffman would be great. You have the money and it seems they are not going to spend it on that right handed bat so do so on the pen. Hope you have a great New Years Corbin, looking forward to your 2025 videos
I think their analytics say that they shouldn't pay a reliever more than a year or two at a time. They gave Kenley 16 mil per but for only 2 years and were trying to trade him by the second year.
@redseatradio You do realize that John Henry spends way less $$ on the Red Sox since he bought the Pittsburgh Penguins, and Liverpool soccer teams? Dumpster diving for free agents with an injury history...Cheap! Crochet is the only trade or positive pickup of any quality!
We have Hendriks, Chapman and Slaten...anyone of those guys can close. As for a power RH bat....dude, the off season isn't over. I predict a trade will be the route for the RH bat, as the free agents available are asking WAY too much. Why overpay ? Remember we want to sign Crochet long term and Houck is probably in that conversation as well.....patience my friend....
yup, i think you go 6-man rotation for the first few weeks then use the 6th starter as a floating starter to give the 5 main guys a day off here and there
Considering the respect related sensitivities of the Japanese culture, I think Masataka Yoshida's dismissive treatment by the the Boston media this off season greatly has led to Roki Sasaki from seriously considering wanting to join the Red Sox ... "Masa" is a solid above average hitter who makes consistent contact while battling a shoulder injury requiring surgery this off season ... I hope he works his way back into the DH role in 2025 and is not traded away with little in return ...
It's been good watching your channel grow from the beginning. They have 1 guy that is coming off of surgery, and 2 that are a year removed. It wouldn't hurt. A Kirby Yates, David Robertson, or Chris Martin or a combo of 2 would be nice. At this point, I'm hoping they don't think Campbell is the solution, but I wouldn't blink an eye if that's the case. Happy New Year!!!
Great work this year ! Pretty obvious on Sasaki that it's no secret how badly Yoshida has been handled and the lack of professionalism the media and team has handled him That's 100 percent the reason I'm certain But you make a great point this is not great because the path going forward is global and a mistake like Yoshida will muddy any future path
Final thoughts: I’m beginning to think that Breslow is either lazy, indecisive, or a mixture of both. We’ve been interest kings this off season with very little to show for it.
Probably the most indecisive GM in the sport. He's interested in everyone but never closes. Good teams target the need and execute. He continues to get exposed as just flat-out inept. And other teams are on to it and he's been robbed on every trade he's made.
@@etrin5714huh??? Notice how everyone said the same thing about Chaim? What’s the same in both situations? The ownership. You can’t aggressively pursue players if you don’t have the funds to do so
It’s almost like it’s impossible to pursue players when you don’t have the funds to do it. He already made a massive move to get crochet and was able to do so because it didn’t take money
Indecisive maybe. But lazy? That’s a hell of a thing to suggest without realizing how meticulously they evaluate everything. If anything they work too hard for their own good. Not to mention the countless reports of other GMs commenting on how restless Breslow is in trade discussions
I assume that they will keep Crawford stretched out as a starter, even if Giolito is ready to go. They can give him some spot starts early mixed with longer relief appearances (some people are calling that a bulk reliever role these days) and cover themselves for a possible injury. And yes, they could limit some guys' innings a bit. Still waiting for the huge update.
We know previous players like Papi have significant pull on Dominican players. It’s a good assumption Yoshida might have influence over incoming Japanese stars. Growing up during the World Series runs of early 2000’s, it’s hard to see our Sox behaving like a small market team
I’ll be most intrigued by what they do in the pen. Do they think they are solid now and add depth, or go sign/trade for a solidified closer to take that pressure off the older guys like Chapman and Hendriks in the pen?
It looks like Breslow is trying to work trades - they don’t seem interested in the remaining players? Maybe just waiting it out. The rotation will always need a spot starter or replace one on the IL
I think a 6 man rotation is an idea I’ve had for at least 25 years. If you have quality rotation why not give them an extra day? Later in the season it could really pay off. I kind of see RS strategy. Leave payroll options open until trade deadline, when many teams are out of the race and wanting to unload salary. Pick up prospects. I still think Henry wants Cora and this team to compete. Fighting for spots from prospects. Not making excuses to the press. I think Casas and Story are two players who need to make an impact this season. Cora needs to keep his head up. Teach these guys to fight and grind. Stay together. Defense needs to improve. Its been horrible for awhile now at 2B and 3B especially. I still think this team needs to come to terms with Devers defense and Casas early season hitting woes. This RS team needs to come to camp ready to go and be a winning team on day one. So, my focus will be on Cora, Casas and Devers and Story. I would love to see Mayers assert himself. Be open to playing 3B to get his break. You can talk about all these Japanese pitchers, but other than Koji Uehara I just am not impressed. They all seem to want left coast.
Just super excited about this team especially the rotation ..I have no problem with Ref and Masa platoon at DH …6 man makes sense as you clearly pointed out. I would be shocked if Roki doesn’t wind up in a warm weather situation
Yeah I think a lot of people are going to totally underestimate the talent the Red Sox are going to possess because they didn’t spend 200+ million on a big name, still there are going to be once again a ton of question marks and I dont totally love that
@@redseatradio a rotation like ours can cover a multitude of liabilities. I seriously think it could be the best in the American League. Just over the moon on the addition of Crochet, he is a cy young caliber pitcher. You have guys who are hungry to establish themselves right along side guys who are looking to re establish themselves. Great mix of youth and vets …love this team
I've got no problem with a 6 man rotation but they will need to have the starters go 6 to 7 innings consistently. No pulling pitchers out after 5 with a shut out going because that was the game plan. They need to be taught how to pitch past 5 and how to pitch the third time through the order. So much emphasis in todays game is on max effort that they have not taught about pitch selection, location and throwing the unexpected pitch.
Happy new year Corbin! A question I’ve been asking myself: if we do sign Bregman, where does that put Campbell? His defense isn’t stellar, so would they DH him? I think with Grissom, Story, Raffy, Mayer and Campbell it’s still a really hectic infield situation. I hate the Mayer trade talk unless it’s for a baller like Vladdy or something.
Campbell’s defense is pretty darn good, he just doesn’t really have a crazy arm. He would be perfectly fine in left field, so I think that would be where I would see him playing. The fact that they didn’t trade Mayer for Crochet really leads me to believe they are going to hold on to him
That is kind of exactly what I am thinking too. In short bursts I think it is smart but a full year not something I would wanna see. And I know it was a really low low low chance he came here but to not get a meeting feels like another level of no
I kind of agree with you the right handed power is going to come via trade and have no idea who it is going to be. I'm not sold on the 6 man rotation but if it is only in the beginning of the season I guess it could work. Breslow fixed the pitching we think let's see what happens next. I'll be listening in 2025!
What you didn't mention about the Giolito interview is that he isn't very happy with the idea of a 6 man rotation. As far as Sasaki goes, at this point it would take a lot of movement down to the bullpen to fit him into the rotation. An excellent talent, absolutely! However transitioning from the Japanese leagues to a major league schedule is not a simple thing. We still need a few pieces to put this team solidly into the top of the contention list for for the AL east another pitcher thats going to fall down mid season is not one of them. Breslow needs to pull the damn trigger and sign a right handed power hitter! Bregman fits all the check boxes. Yes I know I Was against him earlier in free agency. But after more careful consideration he just makes sense.
Imagine having a 6 man rotation. Then no injuries to it because of the extra day of rest. Does it put more pressure on the bullpen? Perhaps but what if that extra day of rest for the starters also makes it possible for our starters to go deeper into games? Hmmmm?
YES to 6 man rotation ro start. Robinson going to LA or SD. Breslows idea of a bat is Campbell or Anthony. They should sign Bregman and trade Yoshida and eat salary.
Kutter, Bello, Houck are all under control for at least 3 more years, Crochet is a top 10 starter in the game. It is actually set up for longer period. The only short term deal are Giolito and Buehler
Yep we have 3 37 year old relief pitchers past there prime who all will spend time on the IR this year they got them because there cheap and were cost effective contracts there not fooling real Red Sox fans
I rather have Crawford as the longman and try a 6 man rotation when Sandoval gets off IL, but that's just me... Yes, not being able to talk to Sasaki sucks! But what can you do??? BTW, Happy New Years Corbin!
Yeah I think that may be something they talk about as well. Could Kutter come out of the pen and then 1 every 8-9 days give them 4 innings to open or something
Roki met with the cubs not the white sox. It was just mentioned in the last month that the white sox were going to make a pitch for Roki to come there but they weren’t granted a meeting from the reporting I’ve seen
Face it, Boston now has a reputation of not being urgent in building a winning team. Nobody wants to be on a team where winning now isn't top priority.
I thought they should have went to a 6 man rotation after the all star break last year. I do not know how going to 6 man to 5 man will affect the starters. I do understand your thinking. But I would think it is better at the end of the season when the arms are tired. I think that is when the players get hurt. But a lot of pitchers got hurt in the first 2 months last year. So there is a lot of thought. I would love to see the sox get Saki he is someone you fit in.
Maybe but you have to remember the bullpen’s arms are also going to be getting tired around the same time too and they are less stretch out to begin wiht
Yoshida to Atlhetics for big bat Rooker, Yoshida needs to go to Vegas, 😂😂 for now he has to settle for Sacramento, California🎉🎉 the bullpen last year was OK, the problem was those dumb changes that Alex Cora made, Cora was the big cry baby who couldn't handle pitching. With Cora Bosox need a 9 men pitching rotation..Cora should be traded for a High School coach..
I like a six man rotation for a large part of the early season. Let Houck, Bello and Crotchet progress and get more innings later in the year without fatigue and pressure. As for Sasaki I couldn't care less. I hope he signs with the Dodgers so the Red Sox can make him cry after he loses the World Series at Fenway. Still hunting that right hand power? Hmmm. Maybe they are trying to get a right handed slugger who has had Tommy John surgery in the last two years, That could take a while. We have to be patient. Trust the front office.
I'd love Jeff Hoffman on this team. You know, I'm perfectly fine trading for a RH bat vs signing Bregman at what Bregman is asking as a FA . Arenado would be an interesting trade target BUT his contract is a hot mess so might not be douable. As for a 6 man rotation, if it keeps our starters healthy and doesn't effect performance......
The more I think about it, the more I think the RH should be an outfielder. The Sox have several very high-ceiling middle infielders. A new infielder would block them when they need playing time. There aren't near-term RH outfielders in the minors with high ceilings (2 years until Garcia). So a RH could take time from Abreu, but frankly with Anthony ready to come up Abreu is probably not going to be around for long.
Sure but they also already have 3 impact outfielders and the top prospect in baseball coming up as well. There really isn’t a perfect solution anywhere
@@redseatradio True. I guess I'm reacting to the idea of a seven-year commitment to a declining veteran when you have multiple high-ceiling infielders ready to come up. I guess if you were considering a similar type of contract for an outfielder it would be the same issue.
More than likely, Roki Sasaki, like most of the players from Japan would prefer playing on the West coast. Chicago would be as far East as they would consider perhaps. Closer to home and their time zone. I think it plays a big part of it. Obviously Boston is at the end of the line.
@@redseatradio TBH, I think it's part of negotiating strategy with the team they really want. The agent might play along other teams to pressure more money to close the deal with the team they really want. I could be wrong, but let's see if he ends up on the west coast.
They better think about this not a bad idea because they have 3 relivers😮hendricks Jansen and Chapman that are 37 and are all a sure bet to all spend time on the ir
Right handed bat should be Vlad Guerrero jr. Yoshida Campbell and 2 players should get this done as long as Vlad signs an extension on trade. 10yrs $35-45m per year with player opt outs at yrs 4 and 7 with escalators should get it done
I think the Sox are done adding big pieces, which is kinda sad. I mean our biggest signing was Chapman. I could be wrong, but they haven’t competed in 2 years and haven’t spent money in probably more aside from extending Raffy. I think they’re going to continue to wait to spend until the farm gets them back to contending. Which as angering as it is I understand.
Yeah I honestly have no clue what they are going to do next. My hope is that they do what they did last year on a bigger scale. Oh didn’t spend on FA let’s extend Rafaela and Bello. Now make it Crochet, Anthony, Casas, Houck and lets solidify this thing
We can have the best pitchers in the world but you can't win a game unless you score a run They let O'Neil go and yes we have a few incredible talents coming up but very few rookies start off hitting bombs and hard knocks
have you seen the Vlad trade rumor, it's complete idiocy, I forget the guys name talking about it but the trade is pure stupidity if Boston did it. I heard another one was signing catcher Salvador Perez. Have you heard anything on either of these? Happy New Year to you, love the channel!
It is the players choice, and remember the agent has an idea who will be open to the best long term deal. If the Mets have gotten a meeting, there is your reason. Go get the bat and sign Martin! I think 8 years and 168 million is both too long a contract and to much money for a player already 31 years old. I rather go after Suski (Cubs) or the Mets first baseman Pete Alonso (who is 30 and is projected to get a free agent deal of 6 years at 174 million.)
I expected the Sox to make a trade for another MLB catcher. Does not seam that is what Breslow has in mind. I don’t like the six man rotation. Assuming everyone is healthy and has solid spring trainings, I would begin the season with Giolito in the pen if the plan is to limit innings / pitches. Roki is a nice dream, but I do not seeing it happen. I wonder to what extent the Sox wanting to move Yoshida plays into it. Could he view Boston as an unwelcoming place for Japanese? Sox are going to have to tidy up their roster a bit. 25 pitchers vs. 15 position players is going to require some tweaks. Perhaps a way too early video to project what the 40 man and 26 man rosters will look like could be interesting.
@ the alternative is every fifth game is going to tax the bullpen if Giolito has a pitch count limit. Giolito is here for one more year. Kutter has what? Four more years? I would prioritize Kutter.
The red sox still haven't pursue elly de-la cruz. The team needs gold glove speed and power in the line up. And cy young starting pitching with relief.
the front office doesn't seem together, where is the aggresiveness. To hear all this BS about spending and then find out they aren't even giving offers to these players. They were never in on Teoscar, and Breslow will never pay Bregman. trade trade trade, when you don't have to. I can't decide if I hate the Sox or Patriots front office more. They were completely unprepared for this market. They just aren't attractive enough anymore to these players. Sasaki is disappointing but not surprising at all.
I guess we blew our load on the rotation! Obviously Henry doesn't want to open the checkbook for a decent right-handed bat!
When it comes to pitching i think with Cora, Bailey and Breslow thats a lot of pitching knowledge so 6 man is what they think is best i believe them.
@asid448 Yep, the cheapest rich guy there is. This Bullpen will be a disaster next season.
Yes Japanese culture is loyalty and the Red Sox have forgotten what that even is anymore
It's embarrassing that players like Sasaki aren't anxious to meet with Boston. That would have been unthinkable a decade ago.
yup, i think you go 6-man rotation for the first few weeks then use the 6th starter as a floating starter to give the 5 main guys a day off here and there
Considering the respect related sensitivities of the Japanese culture, I think Masataka Yoshida's dismissive treatment by the the Boston media this off season greatly has led to Roki Sasaki from seriously considering wanting to join the Red Sox ...
Yeah I hope they wanna bring in someone more secure, regardless of how high Campbell’s ceiling could/will be. Thank you and same to you!!
Taylor Ward not Tyler Ward...
Yeah heard that in the edit
6man rotation 1st month...... then 3 weeks in end July beginning aug.! I like that!!!!
Great work this year !
Pretty obvious on Sasaki that it's no secret how badly Yoshida has been handled and the lack of professionalism the media and team has handled him
That's 100 percent the reason I'm certain
But you make a great point this is not great because the path going forward is global and a mistake like Yoshida will muddy any future path
@@etrin5714when exactly has he been robbed?
Thank you for spending 2024 sharing Red Sox news, rumors, and hypothetical theories with us. I'm looking forward to much more in 2025.
Thanks so much for watching them!
Good video and positive news.. Also, at some point it all comes down to MONEY don't be foolish
Honestly I think either works in terms of the talent, depth wise they are looking pretty okay, could use more of both though
It looks like Breslow is trying to work trades - they don’t seem interested in the remaining players? Maybe just waiting it out. The rotation will always need a spot starter or replace one on the IL
the last 3 Japanese pitchers have rejected Boston.. that's interesting
Yeah it is extremely interesting
I can’t wait until Bregman signs…….with anybody but Sox….Don’t block the younger guys!
100% agree I say we let the young guys play
We need a high leverage closer and middle infield depth. Injuries will come..
Is Gabby Hurlbut from Locked on Red Sox , podcast, your little sister. Lol
The fact that they didn’t trade Mayer for Crochet really leads me to believe they are going to hold on to him
Boston front office has ruined there brand. Roki he isn’t interested.!
I love Roki but I think it's clear we are out...
I think a 6-man rotation is great but if it goes over a month I think it will hurt the bullpen
That is kind of exactly what I am thinking too. In short bursts I think it is smart but a full year not something I would wanna see. And I know it was a really low low low chance he came here but to not get a meeting feels like another level of no
I think a 6 man rotation could be a bonus for our bullpen....keep them fresh and from getting over used.....
I kind of agree with you the right handed power is going to come via trade and have no idea who it is going to be. I'm not sold on the 6 man rotation but if it is only in the beginning of the season I guess it could work. Breslow fixed the pitching we think let's see what happens next. I'll be listening in 2025!
Yeah I think it’s going to end up being an out of nowhere trade like O’Neill was last year. And I look forward to talking Sox with ya Peter!
Hmmmm?
Sad but you are 💯 correct simply put
And there trying to unload Yoshida so he doesn’t trust them
YES to 6 man rotation ro start. Robinson going to LA or SD. Breslows idea of a bat is Campbell or Anthony. They should sign Bregman and trade Yoshida and eat salary.
I’ve been thinking 6 man with the Buehler signing and seeming they’re gonna keep Kutter
Not the worst idea considering the staff got gassed by August in 24.
Yeah I dont hate it, I just dont think it can be a permanent thing
Tanner Scott or Even AJ Minter would be a nice addition.
Three of them will end up on the disabled list. I wish we would set our rotation long term like back when we had Pedro and Schilling. 2004 style.
You and Robbie Hyde need to collaborate
It will happen in 2025 I will manifest it here
that would be amazing!!! I get all my Sox news from you two!!!
Don’t trade the top 4 prospects we’ve given up a lot to get a lot back but still don’t give up the kids we need them
Roki met with the cubs not the white sox. It was just mentioned in the last month that the white sox were going to make a pitch for Roki to come there but they weren’t granted a meeting from the reporting I’ve seen
I thought they did end up getting a meeting with the White Sox? Regardless even if it was just the Cubs the sentiment about winning remains the same
I doubt very much if they go to 6 man
Thinking letting Broneil go was a big mistake.
I hope we bring back chris martin. Hes been one of the best releivers in MLB last few seasons. Super underrated!
Yeah he was really solid, but that is basically creating the back end of your bullpen entirely off of 35+ players
Arenado will be the the bat they get. They will trade more prospects but hopefully they can throw Yoshida in the deal
I like 6 man rotations. Might preserve arms and prevent injuries
In the rotation sure, but what about the bullpen?
@@redseatradio Would a six man rotation put stress on the bullpen?
Prob someone injured that might return late June. Cheaper that way.
Corbin, is there any truth that the Sox signed Salvador Perez, a catcher from Kansas City?
Naw, some troll site put that fake news out
Not even a little
Yoshida to Atlhetics for big bat Rooker, Yoshida needs to go to Vegas, 😂😂 for now he has to settle for Sacramento, California🎉🎉 the bullpen last year was OK, the problem was those dumb changes that Alex Cora made, Cora was the big cry baby who couldn't handle pitching.
Yeah I think it will end up being a totally out of nowhere trade for The Sox, but we will see!
Then why did he meet with the Mets
Roki scared to pitch in the AL East 😅
Starting with a 6 man will give them an opportunity to figure out who the odd man out will be. Ensuring the best starting 5.
Yeah that’s a good point too
They gonna add mike trout
How about Marcelo mayor play second base he's the right-hander
Sign Austin Hays. Platoon with Yoshida.
Why would Sasaki entertain going to the Red Sox?
have you seen the Vlad trade rumor, it's complete idiocy, I forget the guys name talking about it but the trade is pure stupidity if Boston did it. I heard another one was signing catcher Salvador Perez. Have you heard anything on either of these? Happy New Year to you, love the channel!
The Perez thing is fake.
Perez is absolutely fake. And no I have not seen the Vladdy projections, but no trade for Vladdy is going to look good
They are going to Tigerize the pitching staff?
It is the players choice, and remember the agent has an idea who will be open to the best long term deal. If the Mets have gotten a meeting, there is your reason. Go get the bat and sign Martin!
I think 8 years and 168 million is both too long a contract and to much money for a player already 31 years old. I rather go after Suski (Cubs) or the Mets first baseman Pete Alonso (who is 30 and is projected to get a free agent deal of 6 years at 174 million.)
Justin’ turner please
Eh moving Gio to the pen when he has never been a reliever before coming off of TJ doesn’t really make a ton of sense.
@ the alternative is every fifth game is going to tax the bullpen if Giolito has a pitch count limit. Giolito is here for one more year. Kutter has what? Four more years? I would prioritize Kutter.
You must put those Japanese players that want to come over and play, in a draft not how they want it be done. Or let the Red Sox have first choice
*not
The red sox still haven't pursue elly de-la cruz. The team needs gold glove speed and power in the line up. And cy young starting pitching with relief.
Have Roki Sasaki meet with Daisuke Matsuzaka
Apparently he doesn’t wanna do that
I got a really bad feeling about this
Why is that?
the front office doesn't seem together, where is the aggresiveness.
