  • For a product that gets such good reviews, the customer service side is dismal and should be ashamed of themselves. In short, I don’t recommend this product. Find a company that will answer the phone right away and send help.

I have the same one, I have not had this issue but right out of the box mine would not start on its own with the key fob. I had to stand next to it and hold the choke and it would start like that. Then my house just got hit by lightning last night and took the power out. I had to go hook it up and it wouldn’t start. I had to use starting fluid to start it and then it ran fine. So if you’re not mechanical DO NOT BUY THIS ONE. nothing but issues with mine. I guess the start switch often fails too. Never again Westinghouse for me.

So sorry you’ve had these difficulties. I ordered this unit because the electrician who worked on my home had one in the back of his pickup and said he’d recommend it. Mine arrived damaged and Westinghouse wouldn’t ship a replacement until mine was on the way back, which was a major chore and left me vulnerable to another power outage. they failed to consider the dire need we have in Texas due to our fragile power grid. Also, no on around me tends their trees and they will drop branches on power lines on windy days. Good luck and stay safe.

I purchased a WGen5300 ~45 days ago. It was ~2 wks before I could fire it up. The CO sensor kept shutting it down eventhough it was outdoors & nothing near it in a 10ft radius. I waited a day to see if maybe it just needed a little "break-in" time. The same thing happened...3 mins to shutdown. Wasting time w/Tech Support scares me. I want to find out how to defeat the CO sensor ... I just want a generator to work & don't need a stupid CO sensor. We've somehow survived without them for 100yrs. Any ideas?

@@tom95521 a return/refund was processed. I was disenchanted with their lack of urgency in dealing with the matter, so I ordered a different unit from Amazon, and it’s working fine, so far. There was a lot of confusion with the return, which would’ve taken a couple weeks to process and get a replacement issued, so someone from Lowe’s tried to help out by sending out a truck to collect it, which was against store policy, but it did help to move things along. I tried to communicate to the Westinghouse folks that this is a part of my emergency preparedness kit, and I have an elderly mother to keep alive with it, but that didn’t help expedite matters. I’ll make another video about that - it’s just been too hot to work on personal videos when I get home from making videos for my employer. Thanks for asking.

@@tom95521 that brand gets pretty high marks - below the Westinghouse unit, but you’ve got to factor in the customer service side. I recommend trying to reach their customer service department before buying, just to see whether they have an answering service, as is the case with Westinghouse. You will have to wait at least 48hrs for Westinghouse to return your call. That’s just not acceptable for me. I bought an Ai Power unit and a four year extended warranty through Amazon for less than the cost of the Westinghouse unit. It lacks some bells and whistles, but it arrived free of damage and Amazon sent frequent updates on where the truck was. Lowe’s could not reliably predict when I’d take delivery of the Westinghouse unit that was shipped from Reno, and not from a local warehouse. Lots of luck to you.

Absolutely right! I called Customer Support about my WGEN 12000 not starting (just clicks.) The support rep was so uninterested and did not talk much. I was doing all the talking. They finally stated that I should take it to a service center, DUHHH!! Maybe I should take it to the trash recycle center, because it is a pile of trash for $2500. The unit has 50 hours on it and it is like new. Westinghouse products have been made in China for years,. so I am not surprised of the poor quality of WH products. I will NEVER EVER buy another WH products!!!!

I’m sorry you have an even more frustrating story than mine. This unit was recommended to me by one of the electricians who restored power to the house after a storm brought down a tree limb that ripped the power line down. He didn’t mention any troubles so I trusted his advice. If he did have trouble, he probably had the skill to repair the unit himself. That’s not me, though. I need things to work right out of the box and deliver for a reasonable time span. Westinghouse let a lot of us down with their lack of service after the sale.
