I have noticed that once you set the fronds material the polycount decreases from 20,000 to like 500. Mine stays 20,000. Can you please explain how did your polycount decreased so much just by adding a material? Thanks!
Hi Ariel- The default frond mesh in SpeedTree from the templates is pretty high. She created a low poly mesh and assigned that material to the frond to replace the default.
Not sure if you've already found out, but for anyone passing this in the future, you need to make sure your material has a mesh cutout. This will use the poly count of your cutout.

I added fronds, but when I am changing frond material, the tris remain in a same count. You have changed your frond and after it you got only 500 tris. How it is?
You have to click on the edit mesh button on the left of your material pane. There you can set the amount of triangles per LOD. Watch their video about making clusters
Hey Alex, you can use sink to pull the fronds closer to the trunk; you'll also want to make sure the texture is appropriately mapped so that the end of the frond is correctly identified. Hope this helps (sorry this answer comes so late!)
This is not a beginner tutorial. It assumes you already have some understanding of the software. If it's not the case for you, I suggest checking out the Speedtree channel as there are lots of ressources there, and ones that may more suit your actual needs.
Wonder some why people call this a "great tutorial". It's too fast, not really interested in teaching the viewer and obviously not made by someone who knows how to make tutorials. This is not the cheapest piece of software. Good, recent tutorials should be a no-brainer.
@@ianzander5057 this software has literally zero good coverage. You either have to learn everything yourself by reading documentation or by asking tons of questions in forums. I do not see any other way. I have seen only one good piece and it was only a one episode by some guy in youtube. He said that he would continue the series, and of course the only hope of good coverage has been abandoned

i added the fonds to the branches but my fonds are floating and not touching the branches. Why is that and how to fix it.
