    something one of ny psychiatrics said to me this year, that absolutely blew my mind - as it has never crossed it whatsoever - is that: where i’ve always felt like all i am is series of mistakes and failure after failure, chaos and not fitting into societys norms the fucking slightest, not being able to make anything out of my life really (norm wise that is!), to the point i have tried to end myself several times. he said all he saw and heard from my stories, was someone who continueously fought back to create a better life for myself. i never even thought of that, that i never stopped trying. i am close to thirtyfour years of age and am now diagnosed with adhd, autism, recurrent depressions, severe anxiety disorders, dermatillomania, body dysmorphia, eating disorders and chronic sleeping disorders. i’m mentally ill and it’s hell at times. but i’m alive. and i’m alright with that. but i was never alright in how i was treated for my ”shortcomings” in the eyes of society. and now i know i was never meant for it.

X you have every right to the space you occupy in the world and no one has the right to shame you for being you. Where would we be without neuro diversity. Still in caves tbh. Babes!!! I’m neurospicy too! Diagnosed last year, combined, at 42!! There was a lot of grieving my past; not understanding why people close to me didn’t listen when I knew something wasn’t right. I’ve been allowing my mask to drop a bit, which is pretty awesome (not as scared to reveal the real me). Didn’t realise how much of me I was hiding. I suffer massively with RSD and realised it’s why I’ve stayed in old relationships, why I read too much into stuff and also why I’m very much a people pleaser. There are also some other symptoms that make my docs think I’m also autistic too, so waiting for that assessment. Really looking forward to seeing your journey xxxx

    It's been really interesting to hear about your ADHD journey. I have Dyspraxia and was diagnosed when I was a child, but even now I question behaviours or personality traits of mine and think "is this my Dyspraxia or just me being weird?".
    Totally understand how you feel resentful to the way people have treated you in the past as well. I get really sensitive when people think I'm not trying with things, when actually, my brain is working really hard and people can't tell I'm overwhelmed by things. I know it's not reasonable to expect people to just get it, but it still hurts sometimes

    • @indiaplumtree2025
      @indiaplumtree2025 2 года назад +1

      I have dyspraxia and constantly question myself too!! When I'm overwhelmed i tend to just freeze up and dont say anything, and this can seem like I dont care, or i simply have nothing to say when in actual fact my brain is going haywire.
      Sometimes i feel like screaming to people that i act the way i do because of my dyspraxia, i wouldn't, but i cant help but be hurt when people are upset at something i cant help.
      You're not alone!!

      I hope you don’t mind some unsolicited advice, but there is a great channel: How to adhd. If you didn’t know that one yet :)
      Also routine and breaking tasks into tiny chunks is key! I used to leave everything till Saturday and be so grumpy and overwhelmed. Now I do one little task almost every day. Even have a little schedule. If you built it into your routine (for example do it right when you get home from work/school before you even sit down), then it becomes a lot less effort mentally.

      Fellow autistic here who got diagnosed 2 years ago and can also really relate to what you and Helen are saying. I'm recovering from a burn out and the first few months I had to process a lot of pent up anger towards people who forced me to act neuro typical or made me feel bad when I didn't/ couldn't. Also once again fascinated by how much overlap there is with autism and adhd because so much of what Helen describes is so similar to what I experience/ what I'm like.

I felt like I was stupid for the longest time. But I know now I'm not. I just learn things a different way. Maybe a little bit slower but I get there. ADHD has shown me that I do have amazing qualities. Being creative is one of them.

    being self employed and running your own business are the best scenarios for ADHDers to be in with work and career because you can do whatever you like and need to get stuff done and accommodating your ADHD so you already naturally went that way! hopefully you can be more compassionate about those moments you talked about. i found that was the biggest game changer after diagnosis was learning to be compassionate with myself and relearning how i view and speak to myself
