Haha that was both funny and stressful to watch! He just needed to close the wood stove door to a crack, and it would have gotten a better draw. Those things are finicky! Cheers 👍🏻

Oh my goodness, I have not laughed that hard in a long time. It’s because of this wonderful man that my daughter and I finally went camping for the first time last month. Thank you for the inspiration, the education, the laughs and all your hard work.

I’ve notice 5 star restaurants (even regular restaurants) tend to go for aesthetic rather than taste while small family owned restaurants or homemade (obviously) go for taste

Hands down, the best camping trip ever! MP has never been more endearing at attempting to make fire.. and tearing the tent apart, Reugus stealing firewood was just the icing on the Posa cake. And who could resist Posa's Creamy Balls? Whats not to love?

I no longer hunt but deer season is STILL my most favourite time of year. It’s a pretty big deal here in Eastern Ontario. Nobody even questions guys booking off work and/or kids not being in school for the 2 weeks of deer season where I come from. It’s a pretty standard affair. Heck, our local country radio station even has a daily 1-2hr ‘live from the hunt camp’ broadcast throughout the entire hunting season every single year. Has been doing it for almost a decade now. It’s awesome. They send out 3 of their radio personalities out into the field to do their broadcast at local hunt camps that invite them out every year all over our Valley. It’s so much fun. They all sit around and give a little history on the hunt camp and how it all began. Tell a few tall hunting tales. Even bust out the guitars and musical instruments for a little live music. A few libations. It’s the kick off to the entire Christmas season so to speak. Gets me all excited for curling up inside on cool fall weekends to watch movies! And the first smells of those wood furnaces firing up all around us. The leaves in all their colorful glory. The first hints of fleurries in our weather forecasts. It’s such a magical time of year in our neck of the woods. It’s one of the things that makes our little Valley home unique.
I love the fact that you show your mistakes, you're human it teaches us. Not too many survivalists show us there mistakes the way you do so thank you. I really enjoy your videos. Your humer is what makes your videos so special. Keep up your good work.

Fire tip: I always keep some wood chips with me AND some lint. It works great with a firesteel too.

You need to make a video featuring all of your camp cooking, I have made many of the dishes that you have cooked but it's difficult to find certain ones. A video of just you cooking would be great, it's also a good filler for those times you can't get out for some reason. Just something to consider.

It's funny as in Australia, Car camping is actually parking somewhere and sleeping in the car, and camping is usually driving your car to a camp spot, pitching a tent and sleeping in the tent away from the car, even if it means driving through the bush to get to a camp spot. Awesome video!!!

I just found you and I love you!! Love your babies too. I grew up camping and my dad has a cabin so I really appreciate what you do. Being outside and the smells of nature are just so wonderful. Nothing like cooking in the woods too. I just love it all.

I take my kids with me and my middle son is on the autism spectrum and he absolutely loves being outdoors, in the woods/forest he totally relaxs and just has great fun..
Last time we woke up with deer outside our tents.. They legged it as soon as we made noise but it was so cool and jsut so peaceful!!
We made steak and stew and an Irish fry the next morning 😊😁

Thank you for sharing the fire struggle with us. I was in a similar situation last year on my first solo over night trip and felt like a complete tool struggling to make a fire. Seeing this may help encourage others who have had a difficult time to stick with it and try again.
All I've ever heard is even a spark could start a forest fire. I always believed it until I went camping for the first time and started wondering why my sparks weren't creating a roaring fire. I would have settled for a small fire but I barely got that. I've since figured it out but I really have a hard time believing a spark could start anything.
I am a 65 year old woman living in Oregon. I am completely hooked on these videos. I was raised camping and hiking and I absolutely love to fish. So now I am in the market for a canoe. Will have to do some research for sure to find one I can handle. I will be taking my dog. I am still fairly strong and all my own joints. Just want to be able to get out on a lake and fish. I freeze just watching those winter trips. Lol. I have tried many of Matthew’s recipes and always look forward to what he is going to cook. Thai Coconut soup is my next. I have trouble watching some people eat anyway lol so I skip that part. Love Monty and Rueger and Funk even thought we don’t get to know her. I don’t hunt but love love to fish. I am watching them all and some more than once.

So needed a Monty fix, been scrappy recently as losing lung function too quick for me. Pulmonary Fibrosis is insidious. Just love seeing the dogs having such a good time. I love the snow as 6 out of our 9 dogs are white and so love watching them play in the snow.
Your hot tenting deer camp sounds fantastic. I think it's pretty darn cool that you do that... roughing it... compared to what my deer camp it. lol...
Hope your deep hunting went well. Getting ready today, packing up gear, and heading then heading to the cabin tomorrow after work for the Wisconsin opening weekend. My nephew is hunting next to me again this year, his last year... so I plan to get in some sleeping in the ground blind while he sits, waits, watches... etc... 🙂

Mathew is a bushcraft maestro with the fire steel. The one strike fire is a thing of legend (not to mention the infamous zero strike fire), just don't give him a lighter and a hot tent! 😃 Enjoyed seeing the woodland escapades of da boys.

Matt, a little cooking hint: don't pull off the needles from the rosemary. Throw in the whole twig. Though you can pull the twig out when you reached the taste you want to have. And you don't have to chew on the needles this way 😁😉

I found Matthew’s channel through Joe Robinet’s bushcraft channel. His channel got me through a tough bout of depression during the first radiation treatments. Hard to believe this March will mark 13 years fighting a brain tumor(oligodendroglioma). Back then I was given a 50% chance of walking again. Carpe Diem dude.😎
I had cancer in 2001. I still have it but I tell you this so you will know that a cancer diagnosis is not necessarily the end. When you start out it is terrifying and depressing. But just keep fighting. Try to find a reason to smile every day. Enjoy what time you have. Do things you always wanted to do do. And be grateful for every day you have.
OK this is my story. During the artic blast in Feb. I was camping while it was -20f here in nebraska. I had dropped one of my sections of pipe while assembling the stack. I could not get my stove lit for over an hour. turned out I had clogged the pipe with snow.
Now that is scary. On RUclips everyone lights their fires first try. I have always thought things just happen.

First, your “mike” on the video is great. It picked up what sounded like a jet flying over while you were lighting the fire “first attempt”.
Second, when you “test” the noodles, if they need a few more minutes, put them in your sauce, allow them to continue to cook in sauce, the noodles will absorb more flavor.
Third, is that a new “Monty” shirt?
Fourth, where I live we had a tornado Thursday, will be back in the 60-low 70’s this week. LOL 😂, love “tornado alley”!

Good stuff Matt! The first hot tenting trip of every winter season has its challenges. It's like I forgot how to do it and then I have to re-learn it all over again. LOL
P.S. Don't forget to email me with the questions you had about your big stove - or give me an email address to contact you at. You will want to set it up once before you take it out so you can get rid of any extra pipes, and that pipe sleeve that came with it you probably won't need, before using it the first time.
I cant believe how long it took to start that fire either, 🤣🤣🤣 and I know it was frustrating, but it was also very entertaining 🤣🤣🤣it reminded me of a looney tunes episode.

I love your channel you and the dogs make me feel good . have you ever thought about keeping a small baggie of dryer lint in your bag just in case you need it to start a fire and can't find bark .I have really enjoyed your camping trips.I use to camp and fish but I'm too old to sleep on the ground anymore and can't start a fire because of my 02. So I enjoy it by watching you. You have a great personality .And the love you have for your dogs.
