These wheels should be used at low speed, I mean very low for them to cut correctly. Most people use them at flat-out speeds on their flexshaft thinking that this will cause them to cut faster. What actually happens is that the wheels cut unevenly and wear out much more quickly.
Thanks so much! Very informative. I have and use both. You're more experienced than I am and obviously do more advanced work. But, like you, I think there's a place for both. The 3M radials are superior for finishing, so I slurge on those at the higher grits, but use the cheaper ones to remove solder, clean up joins, & do the first passes for polishing.
Randy, I've heard there should be a 90 degree directional change each time you move to the next grit, and "polish" (use) until the previous wheels "scratches" are resolved. Takes a bit of time, it's not quick. That said, I have both sets and find that just the ability to get into tiny details makes the 3M set superior. One caveat to that: the aggressiveness of the Amazon set is a plus when eliminating firestain before next week!!! LOL!
The 3m goes upto 14,000 grit so obviously it'll give a higher polish/finished product. I cannot see how adding more pressure and time will give the Amazon ones a better result. The 3M are my favourites 😍
I used the off brand versions (didn't know the others existed and couldn't justify the price regardless). I've been happy with them but for one thing: I used them in a dremel at medium speed okay, but when one time I put the speed up to max all the strands flew off while I was polishing, leaving nothing but the centre hub. Not sure if that would happen with the more rubbery 3M versions.
@@GomeowCreations Dedeco Sunburst , an actual 3m spin off, might actually start to drive some more sensible pricing. I'm just a tinkerer that looked into these a bit today, thanks for the video. The generic set you linked directly is no longer available and reviews of the other rebrands now are lacking detail or images sadly, leaving me unsure if quality has dropped or they're outright fake products (comments of hard plastic not rubberised, no grit difference in the colours) or people buying them just don't know their use properly.
Thank you so much, I've been debating on getting the 3m or cheaping out. For what I'm doing the cheap will be fine. I was just worried they would shed or break apart. I'm hoping for a foredom soon, then i"ll grab the deal.
Thank you. I appreciate the comparison. I see buying both in the future because I think I will need the versatility in cleanup and polish and didn’t think about the difference between the cheap and the 3M.
Thank you! I'm getting some of these to polish seeds for jewelry making. I've been making my own discs with regulard sandpaper, but I think these radial discs would do a way better job. I have just one question: how long do they last?
Both are made in China. For the purpose of items I use these disks for the knock off brand works very well. There are also several knockoff companies that produce these disks that are extremely less costly. 3M is a fine company, but they are over inflating the cost I believe.
Great video, thanks for this. I have just ordered both 3M and cheap versions. My cheap set also came with white discs that are 2500 grit but not tried them yet.
Thanks for this! I recently started using the cheaper ones and I do like them but you are correct they are super stiff and don’t fit rings! Going to splurge for the 3m set! Love your videos btw, I just started back doing metal work after.... welll... a long time and your videos have helped me tremendously! ❤️
very unfair comparison, should have only compared identical grits. 80, 120, 220 and 400 grits only. also, the cheap ones do come in different diameter disks and higher grits if you look for them on other sites like aliexpress.

GRRRRrrrr- Damit. 8- min in, then he hits the viewer with the fact this is a paid or at the least a kickback review. Therefore. Biased and or partial to the paid product comparison. I really wanted an unbiased comparison. I am only aggravated because he did not disclose this info within the first 30-sec. I know there is nothing forcing a YT'er to disclose this info. However. most of the straight-up reviewers will be honest the tell you right away, even telling you to take that fact into consideration. Over time I have seen the influence of these honest reviews are rubbing off on some of the not so honest reviewers. If you put the data to it. There are way fewer honest reviews, however. the few that there are have a very high sub and view count.
Yeah looking back I could have said it sooner in the video. That being said I did at least say that it was given to me, people can easily lie and now even say it. Also I wasn't paid for making that video but I do have an affiliate account with them so I make a very small commission if someone bought them but I also make a commission from the other ones. The point of the video was to show the viewers what the two can do so they can decide what they need or what will work best for them. 😁👍
Very informative but, very difficult to listen to! The repetitive use of the words and and but mixed in with very long and weirdly placed pauses had me very confused

I love the 3m discs. I had hoped by now they would’ve gone down in price though 😕
Yeah, I know what you mean but I real don't see them lowing the price on them unless a competing company can make them better and cheaper. 😅

The cheap ones do last a long time so that shouldn't be a problem

They last a long time but that will depend on how much you use them so its hard to give you a real time frame. 😊
GomeowCreations I’m planning to use them to sand and polish some seeds (sea beans). I’m just worried that they’ll break after maybe 2 or 3 times.

Does 3M still sell these polishers? I haven’t been able to find these in stock anywhere lately.
Here is a link to some that I think are still in stock bit.ly/3mDiscs
I’m getting some these would come in handy for my lapidary an jewelry making

Well thanks and welcome back to the craft 👍
Just ordered ! I was thinking about a quick change and this was a great deal Thank you!!
Awesome, let me know how you like it when it come in. 😁👍
I will!
I'm a jewelry artist and I like the 3M but cost always should play into what you are comfortable with.
Nice job Randy! That was quite interesting . Thanks for the great comparisons!
Thanks and no problem, I thought people would like to know the difference. 😁
I hate sanding so the 3Ms are kinda worth it. I like abrasive tumbling media for a lot.
anyone know which ones last the longest
I don't know yet but I will let you know once I know from using mine. 😅👍
Coupon code was acknowledged but is longer honored.
You squished the 220 Amazon disc comparing it to to the 1200 3M.

yep
Yep. And I use them both still. 😁👍
Been using the 3M for quite a while, better by far!
The 3M discs really do have a more consistent finish 😅
Again great video. I have my video of a Chinese copy of pepe tools jump ring making set.
I do not disagree, but the problem with sponsored "tests" is always that the result is given in advance.
I have used both and didn't realize the difference. Lol.
Near impossible to get these at a reasonable price in Oz.
One go to 100 grit the other to 14000 grit bad comparison.
Amazon and Pepe, two companies I won’t support. Genuine 3M are available at reputable dealers.
I understand Amazon but why not pepetools?
Lousy customer service is unacceptable.
That isn't something I have heard about them being bad at to be honest 😅
