Almost brought a tear to my eye hearing that Alan wake has been trying to escape the dark place for 10 years writing a story for his escape but failing each time, god knows how many times he failed, but he never gave up, always kept writing a new way to escape, Alan wake is the GOAT man 🔥🔥🔥🔥 imma cry if he dies in the next remedy game 😭
I swear Alan better get out. He needs to let Barry know what a true MVP he is. Seriously though I cannot imagine what kind of therapy he will need after this experience.
@@GamingUniversityUoG He will need a loooong time for it. Thankfully Hartman isn't here anymore, so he won't mess with Alan. I am kinda curious if Alan had met Jesse before. Someone had showed a picture from Prime Candidate room P7 (on white board), there's one of photos that showed Jesse was talking with someone, 'his' appearance was similar with Alan. Not sure if I see it correctly... But it might be him, and I wanna see if they could meet each other again.
I imagined Alan in 2022 screaming like Sirius Black: "I'VE DONE MY WAITING ! 12 YEARS OF IT ! IN THE DARK PLACE !" xD I don't think he'll die, he's one of Remedy's iconic characters. I can't find a good reason for it and it'll ruin the story if he just dies like that after all this building up. And Sam Lake never ruined a story so far..
Yeah, Remedy really needs to let him free. They may have had huge plans for a Alan Wake-verse, but that all obviously fell through and left us all hanging. Im glad they got some Alan Wake in Control for the fans, though. Its so awesome to see Wake again.
I hope Quantum Break is connected to these stories. Don't get me wrong, I'm super hyped for the continuation, but Quantum Break's ending was a pretty big cliffhanger.
Thanks for the info.. really excited about it.. I wish they do quantum break too but sadly the entire ip is owned by microsoft and they decided to kill it
@@dave_the_slick8584 I wouldn’t be suprised if Remedy is still planning on buying the rights to QB in the future. I think in some form or another it will come up again
I feel that even though Remedy has had this type of story driven games since 2002, Control is what really propelled them forward. Plus with then working on the story mode for Crossfire X, there will be a lot of new fans coming on considering how popular that franchise is.
If people are confused, the artbook says that Jesses story is still her own. Alan is limited in what he can write, he can push events though. He bascially pushed the Hiss to take over the FBC, so Jesse would become the hero Alan needs.
Also the QR code in the Remastered version confirms this as well that Alan simply borrowed upon stuff he learned about real life events to use as inspiration. Also it makes it easier to change reality if you are writing about something that already happened. Less rules being broken that way.
@@GamingUniversityUoG Oh wow, I missed that. I was really worried initially that Alan created all of this when I initially played through. It would have cheapened Jessie’s story, but I’m glad it’s being setup this way.
@@GamingUniversityUoG coming from the latest datamined leaks of Alan Wake 2, It was actually found out that Alan literally receives visions and hints of events that have happened/or will happen from other world/s to help serve as inspiration for his recent writings to escape the Dark Place. So in essence, Alan's more technically like a seer who gets to choose what scenarios to write down instead of outright creating new things on the go as I first mistakenly believed.
Actually Alan didn't create the Hiss or have anything to do with the plot of Control, he made the crisis in the Investigation Sector so Jesse would be his hero, then he'd have an excuse to create the AWE in Bright Falls
Alan Wake is one of the most beautifully created characters in story telling. His courage and endurance through his tragic journey is most respectable. I wonder if the Thomas Zane we saw behind the spiral door is more than just a remnant. There's a recording by Dr. Hartman saying that after Alan has disappeared, people in Bright Falls started seeing Zane again. He's been trapped in the dark place even before Alan and maybe he is trying to escape just like him. But why is he a filmmaker now and the poet is just his latest creation ? And why did his voice change ? James McCaffrey is still with Remedy as he did Trench.
Frankly I am not sold that the Zane we see behind the spiral door is the Zane we met throughout Alan Wake. And I agree. I love Alan's character arc and the utility of him within the setting. From a volatile man with severe emotional issues to finding a form of enlightenment only to be tossed into he preveriable belly of the whale. This dude has went through hell.
Indeed. Only a few people including Jesse remember Tom the poet. I don't know why, but when Jesse's therapist said that she found a filmmaker who moved from Europe in the 60s and whose name is Thomas Zane, I remembered that Blessed Pictures did exist and operate in 1968 and maybe even before. And there's a file in the sector about a group called The "Blessed" Organization saying that they are labeled "Paracriminals" who have taken interest in creating and abusing altered items. Cauldron Lake is a perfect place to create altered items given that you can influence the works of art near it. Maybe this Blessed Organization is the unknown third party you mentioned, who contacted Dr. Hartman who owns a clinic overlooking the lake with artists inside. There are quite a few documents and recordings about them in the DLC echoing with the name of Chester Bless. I think he's becoming a more important element in the story.
The end of "Writing the Manuscript" suggests that the Hiss, Jesse, and perhaps the Federal Bureau of Control itself, may of been created in one of his manuscripts, a prequel to the current plan. He notes a specific type of Poetry used in creation of the Hiss Chant (and sites many of the words and phrases found within said chant). This also could be reflected in Dylan's Dreams, past drafts of the manuscript dropped in favour of the current (Mr. Door?). He needs Polaris to guide him out (the guiding star), to create Polaris he needed someone else for it to guide, Jesse and Dylan Faden, or just Jesse Dylan Faden... The Two Thomas Zanes, the poet and the filmmaker, or are both one and the same but different aspects? Edit: A continuing thought, for Polaris to guide him he needs a destination, and this may explain why Jesse Dylan Faden became Jesse Faden and Dylan Faden, to ensure that Polaris can guide him to Alice, Polaris must first be able to guide Jesse both to Dylan, and her "true?" self.
The only flaw I see with this is that the FBC, Ordinary, and the Prime Candidate program all happened before 2010, and we know his time moves linear because of AW. So unless he can rewrite the past, this wouldn't work. And if he could rewrite the past, why couldn't he rewrite his arrival to Bright Falls?
DemonicRobots Like with any form of Time Travel, you’ve got to close the loop.Wake wrote about Zane writing about Wake, a closed loop of recursive events that must happen for the loop to exist. Wake can’t write his arrival out for meta, physical, and metaphysical reasons: First, it’s the kind of shortcut that lead to Taken Barbara Yeager. Second, it’d make for a boring story, and the Dark Place doesn’t bring travel-logs to life, only “fiction”, good fiction at that. Third, for his words to have the power to physically change the world, he’d need to physically be near an opening, or within, the Dark Place.
@@DemonicRobots But what is a character without a Background? A Writer always thinks about that. And we have to remember: we used to think that maybe Thomas Zane came before Alan Wake, maybe he created Alan Wake, but now its kinda confirmed that Thomas Zane indeed existed... still exists... all thanks to Alan. Its a little meta. Just a little. Bit.
@@safygo It's something Dylan talks about, may of been a consideration of an earlier version of the game, but in one of his dreams he mentions that there wasn't a Jesse Faden, or a Dylan Faden but a Jesse Dylan Faden.
I just finished the AWE expansion a couple hours ago and as soon as I finished it my first thought was "OMG that was amazing" my 2nd thought was "The Dean will definitely have some things to say about this" haha. I could not be more excited, I never would've guessed that we'd get an Alan Wake 2 conformation at the end of AWE, 2022 can not come fast enough. Also the fact that Alan is writing Jesse into his story to become the "hero" that saves him from the Dark Place makes me think that maybe Alan Wake 2 will have us playing as both Jesse and Alan.
Perfect timing! I'm glad I waited then. I wanted to give everyone time to play it before I started talking about it. Yeah we know the agent in charge is Estevez in Bright Falls. I'm curious to see how much screen time Alan will get. I'd be interested to see if the POV will bounce back and forth. Some ideas I have had is maybe we will play Alice, Breaker, or maybe the FBC agent. Or...maybe Samantha Wells will finally be given the instructions to continue. Her blog does end with, "I'll be here, waiting."
it might seem weird but i just don't think Alan has the agency to be writing Jesse into his own story; Alan himself is a trope made of tropes - i believe he/his story was generated by the Typewriter Object of Power/Altered Item to gain power xoxo that's the most generic function of what a typewriter OoP would do, right? i admit, i played Control first and have only seen a bit of Alan Wake but he is barely in control (lol) of his life while JESSE is a f*cking beast there is literally nothing so far making me think he is real(er than her); he himself is barely gripping sanity and he did not have magic powers (to my knowledge) before that Typewriter was brought to his room
Man this one was a little heartbreaking. I am so glad you covered this aspect of Alan Wake in the dlc. At least it ended with hope that this attempt worked.
Not even going to lie there are some times that it takes me a few tries to record because I get choked up with emotion at certain parts. I agree, trying to imagine what Alan has been going through mentally and emotionally is rough. I want to believe that he will finally be given peace. This dlc is the first hint that this will be possible and I am overjoyed.
You got it good sir! If you feel the need to pick my brain while preparing your video feel free to reach out. I'm more than happy to answer any questions.
dude, I am in ''awe''(get it?) with your knowledge. I need you to make a video about the studies, books and authors you have read to be so damn knowledgable and capable to analyse these games.
That is an interesting idea. To be honest I mostly attribute my interest in this stuff to having a father who was really into these topics too. Not video games, but the other stuff. Google does searching helps too lol. But I'll think about what I believe to be my most influential books/films and put together something.
Yeah the end of AWE is basically screaming Alan Wake 2 - I'm really curious how Remedy will go about it, both from a story and gameplay perspective. There is definitely a lot they can explore with the idea of leftover elements of failed stories that have become manifest in the Dark Place. Great vid btw, been looking forward to your thoughts on AWE and it's implications on the larger connected universe.
One thought I had while reading your comment was that while in the Dark Place, he was forced to for the first time to write without his Muse. I wonder if a lot of his failed stories were because he had never written without Alice before. Maybe it is me but I kind of hope she is our POV character for the story. I doubt it but I would love it.
@@GamingUniversityUoG Well he did write Departure without her :-). Alice definitely will be involved, but unless they are doing multiple perspectives I think Alan will be the only playable character. Happy to be wrong of course
@@GamingUniversityUoG Well it would make sense because in AWE, Hartman reacted to Alice being in the Bureau (he was still human before that). Maybe Alice is what he's missing ?
@@GamingUniversityUoG It might sound stupid or something, but maybe the next game could be named Alice Wake instead of Alan Wake, because maybe the secret is that his muse should save him from the Dark Place, maybe she is the key element or something. Maybe there is some kind of "cycle" between them.
This video made me appreciate both game’s writing so much more. The whole theory that Alan caused the rise in awe’s with his escape attempts is absolutely genius and helps to explain certain events
Remedy did mention that this is the first of their planned crossover events. In order to have an avengers moment they will need to chat with Rockstar and Microsoft about the other characters.
@@GamingUniversityUoGI am fine with the Remedyverse just being localized to AW and Control. I always looked at the MP and QB easter eggs as simply that- nods to their other works. I would absolutely like to see a team up of Alan and Jessie, but Remedy already spent enough time and money to acquire the license for Alan Wake - and that is good enough imo.
I thought this channel was severely underrated, but I noticed you just made it not too long ago. I predict a lot of subscribers in the future if you continue making consistently great content like this.
I really appreciate the confidence. Yeah I just started a little over a year ago and all things considered in really happy with what we have done in that time!
You know after playing awe I was under the impression that Alan had created the story of control being that he knew so much about Jesse and the events of the main game
We know that Alan is able to get information from the real world through radio signals. In AN we see him getting radio broadcasts and well as television broadcasts. Even dreams give him an idea of what's happening. I imagine that he wrote parts of it. But one of his Hotline calls has him saying basically that he needed to "trim the fat" of the story and not control so much. Imply things and let the characters figure it out from there. In this sense he may have been the instigator of the adventure, the Herald if you will, but every detail doesn't seen to be controlled by him.
There no way we saw Thomas Zane in that cutscene. To me it felt like it was either the Dark Presence taking a new form or Mr Scratch being Mr Scratch. Either way I don't trust anything he says, the way he acts in Alan Wake and this was completely different. In Alan Wake he was a friendly guide, always advising Alan in the best way he knows how. In control he's commanding Alan and the way he acts was very off from what we knew of him. Also, did anyone else notice that Hartman *ONLY* repeated what Alan Says in the Hotline calls and not the hiss chant. Sure he says it time to time but only the parts that Alan Says when describing him.
Agreed. His presence was a bit too offputting for me. Especially when he tells Alan not to worry about Mr. Scratch and let him handle them. Umm, no lol.
Awesome video as always just a theory but the idea of scrapped untold stories written by Wake could be a fourth wall reference to the numerous follow ups Remedy had attempted to write for the original game but were scrapped.
I honestly had the same idea. Alan Wake was planned on a trilogy. Even though we never got it, remnants of what they planned to do can be found in Quantum Break and Control. If you can find a copy, order Alan Wake Illuminated. It's a behind the scenes art book that discusses things that were cur and their original intention for the trilogy.
Maaan you channel is such a gem ,let me tell you my story very quickly x) so i started control at the start of 2020 (played it like any other game ,i enjoyed it ,but thats it ,nothing more ,especially cause i rarely read all the documents and had no prior knowledge of the references ) then i took a break for a month or so ,when i decided to continue playing ,i though "yeah ,lets check a RUclips video to help me remember what happened up until now on the game) and i stumbled upon your channel ,watched most of the videos and ohh boy did i enjoy them ,and they opened my eyes on how complex and well written the game is (and later the RemedyVerse) ,so i played control (and both of the DLCs) and enjoyed them much more knowing the lore ,and now i plan on playing all the other remedy games (Alan Wake and Quantum break especially) ,and i always rush to watch your videos when they come out ,they are as great of an experience as the games themselves ,hope you continue talking more about Control especially ,and that you get a looot more subs ,you honestly deserve that
I'm glad to hear that I was able to help enhance your enjoyment of this game. I find it really interesting that the more we dive into the world, the more enjoyment we can get out of it. I was similar. I played Alan Wake back in 2010 when it first released and enjoyed it but I didn't really go crazy over it until 2018 when I had my roommate play through it. Even quantum break I waited 4 years to actually play it for myself. Since starting this channel, I'm the same as you. I didn't realize how much I enjoyed this works Remedy created until I began discussing it for you all.
@@GamingUniversityUoG Sometimes all we need is a little bit of curiosity to see things in a whole different way indeed ,your story with Remedy games is really interesting too ,also I'm glad that you enjoy making these videos and get to learn a lot yourself along the way ,keep it up 💯🔥
My main question after AWE is this: we know Alan is writing the events of AWE entirely, does this mean he created the FBC as a whole, and the entirety of control is his story? Maybe this is his way of creating an organization that would gather people (Jessie) powerful enough to combat the dark place and help him escape. Or did the FBC already exist and he just utilized it to help himself. I don’t think the second is likely because he couldn’t have known of its existence prior to getting trapped in the dark place. I think control is one of his manuscripts.
I think the FBC existed even before Alan wake because Sarah breakers dad Frank Breaker was member of the FBC, and in the Alan wake game Sarah asks Barry to contact him and give him the code word ‘Night springs’ a code indication telling that’s there’s a AWE going on at bright falls. According to a case file in control FBC agents arrived 2 days after the events of Alan wake but the event was over. So the FBC already existed. I think Alan only wrote to use it for his escape and only wrote the events of AWE dlc.
Salman Khan valid point. How did Alan learn of its existence though? And if he knew of it maybe he didn’t create it entirely but in the night spring manuscripts you discover throughout AWE written by Allen, the story is exactly what happened when trench and darling went through the slide projector. Maybe he didn’t create the FBC but he might have created Jessie and the events that take place in control in order to allow her to become powerful and help him eventually.
American nightmare really helps with these questions. It is revealed that Alan uses dreams and radio signals to transfer information to and from the prime reality. So he received information through tv sets and radios as well as people's dreams. While we only see him doing this to keep tabs on Alice and Barry, it is possible he was looking for inspiration to help him wrote a story to escape. If we go by this thought train, he could have learned about the FBC through these means and adapted them to assist in his situation. Honestly it is something they will likely clarify at a later time.
Gaming University thank you for filling the gaps! Love your channel sm btw! I’m curious what you think about my second question from above. As you read the Night Springs manuscripts written by Allen throughout AWE, the story they tell is exactly what happens with trench and darling as they both go through the slide projector before control even starts. We also hear Alan talk about ordinary in some of the hotline, though I can’t remember exactly what he says. As I was playing it though it seemed to me that it was suggesting that Alan was actually writing the events that take place throughout the entire game of control. Like he writes about Polaris, Dylan, and about the hiss, he basically wrote darling and trench going through the slide projector, and he is the narrator telling Jessie’s story throughout AWE. Was he narrating Jessie throughout the base game and foundation as well (we just didn’t see it in the hotline because we hadn’t peered through the spiral door yet) meaning he created Jessie? What do you think?
One thing to keep in mind is he wrote that long before he was at Cauldron Lake and had the ability to re-write reality. However, he has been known to adapt his previous night Springs episodes to suit his purposes. Frankly I don't think he wrote ALL of control. But maybe initiated the Hiss crisis in order to allow Jesse to be built up as a person/character/warrior. Then once she was ready, begin the story of AWE. But that's just my hypothesis. There is not enough information to say 100%
It's not uncommon to see a shadowy figure during a sleep paralysis episode. So it's not only the sensation of something holding you down but there are could be a visual component to it as well.
Same here brother. Seriously I think it makes it worse for those of us who have spent the last decade worrying for Alan, trying to imagine ways to give him a happy ending. I feel we are just as desperate as he is.
Great vid! Love seeing Control content so in depth. I didn't see it on here, so I'll add it for anyone looking but it's also implied Alan created the Hiss and their invasion was just another part of his plan. In the hotline calls, you hear Alan writing the chant the Hiss use. You can also find several TV/Movie scripts in the Investigations sector from Alan where a scientist is trying to stop his crazed boss from opening a door to another world, clearly meant to be Darling and Trench. The manuscripts end with the boss opening the door and letting an evil entity through. It at least explains where the Hiss came from and why they weren't around during the events in Ordinary. Also worth noting that Alan mainly refers to Jesse simply as "Faden" in his ramblings, maybe another point for Dylan and Jesse being the same person? Or at least more evidence that Jesse or Dylan were meant to be the next director, like how the board referred to Jesse as "Jesse/Dylan" in the Foundation.
Great video as always! The info dropped on the Blessed organization was extremely satisfying after the hints you gathered from the foundation and game. While the AWE dlc felt a lot more like a teaser for a sequel, I am now beyond ready to see how Remedy handles it. With how much the game mechanics and aesthetics have evolved since Alan Wake, it’ll be interesting to see how a Non-Oldest House setting in Bright Falls will be. fingers crossed it’ll be set there-I do love the oldest house, just excited for seeing what they can do with that creepy location
I was excited when they name dropped the Blessed Organization as well. And yeah it will be nice to return to Bright Falls. I'm curious what else they have out there for us as well.
Dude, I admire how deep you have dived into this universe, there's so much going on in this DLC, it's crazy. Great videos, hope to see more about Hartman, Ahti, and the Anderson brothers. I wanted to point out, in one of your videos, you discussed two agents standing in front of the Bright Falls map. At the end of Ahti's Messes for the DLC, he sends a post card from "Watery, WA." . Well, I referred back to your video, turns out, Watery is just outside Bright Falls. Coincidence? Can't wait to hear your next video man!!
Barry Wheeler, in a cutscene told by Alan found by a hideout, apparently built the " 'Valhalla Nursing Home' " for Odin and Tor. Perhaps he could be visiting?? Also, look up Valhalla in norse myth, should be quite interesting 😛.
So the original Zane was a poet who put on a diving suit to enter the lake and alter reality to erase his books so they stopped giving the darkness power. However people still remember him, and only as a writer. In American Nightmare there are movie posters for a film by Tom Zane of a man in a diving suit. In control there is a document mentioning Zane is sometimes referred to as a writer and sometimes as a filmmaker, and the Zane Wake talks to in the DLC is just a filmmaker. So what if Wake has created an second Zane?
We already know that Alan created a second Zane. I talk about this more in the 'This House of Dreams' video. Essentially, the Zane we see in Alan Qake is NOT the original Poet. It is an entity called the Bright Presence that assumes the form of the Diver. Just like the Dark Presence appears as Barbara Jagger. At some point, I believe Alan essentially created a new version of Zane that is a filmmaker. One intended to assist with a new project. A Stage Production called, "The Cult." This also isn't the original Zanr.
@@GamingUniversityUoG Cool, I just found your channel and am catching up on the old videos haven't gotten to that one yet. Really enjoying the ones I've seen, very informative and well done.
I think you are exactly right about the trial and error and unintended consequences. Even in what we are assuming to be the "successful" attempt that involves Jesse and the FBC, we can see that either Wake is willing to accept some collateral damage, or that he has no other choice in order to keep the Dark Presence contained. We can see this since he wrote for his wife to visit the FBC, which is what set Not-Hartman off and caused the violent deaths of so many Investigations Sector FBC agents and the shuttering of the department completely. There's also the Wake Writes a Beginning Hotline, which suggests even more collateral damage (although its unclear whether Wake CREATED or simply MODIFIED the Hiss in this case.) ....orange peel
Spider Time! At this point we know Alan doesn't shy away from collateral damage. He mentions in one of his tv rants in AW that for the story to work there has to be sacrifices otherwise the story isn't believable.
It was one of the few I played as well! Even though it is only on the Xbox Live arcade, I'd recommend Beyond Good and evil on the 360 store. It is one of my favorites of that generation alongside Alan Wake.
"Planar friction" is such a brilliantly sneaky way to allude to another reality without using such vocabulary that would immediately give such notion away
Incredible video. I think there's material to make more content. For example, after thinking about it, I began to believe that the Board somehow created a "synthetic" bridge, using the nature of the Oldest House to link various realities and keeping/forcing it through an object they created, the Nail.
On that topic, if you haven't already seen it I do have a video on The Nail. We have the same thought about it being a Link between the Astral Plane and the Oldest house.
Did you ever notice the board never contacted us during this whole event? (Remember you can play AWE in the middle of the game ...foundation is more so the actual ending of the game as a whole). In my conspiracy canon I think the board and the darkness are somehow related ...to me they didnt seem all that scared of the hiss... darkness infused hartman wasnt afraid of the hiss. I have a feeling they somehow got alan to come to the oldest house and are keeping him somewhere.
Honestly I hadn't given much thought to the Board being quiet during the entire AWE dlc. It is certainly possible that they exist as entities from the Dark Place. Or it can be as simple as Alan was the one who wrote this story and didn't include them.
Thankfully I've only suffered sleep paralysis once in my life, but I can add another nugget of info: It's not just the hallucinations that can freak you out, when you're paralyzed you can actually be scared by anything you see. For example, I woke up staring at the wallpaper that was right in front of my eyes, and for some reason my brain decided that the dots on the wallpaper was the most terrifying thing I had ever experienced. I have new wallpaper.
Wow, you actually think there is more to the AWE in my home city (Kyiv) :D A strange place for Alan to escape though, nearly on the other side of the planet from New York. On a more serious note, I think that the fact that the in-game Kyiv AWE is based on the real world event makes it unlikely that it had anything to do with an important part of the game. But it's an interesting theory.
Frankly I think there is more to most of the AWEs. Specifically the Sterling/Willow AWE. For the Kyiv AWE just the thought it was caused by Planar Friction got my head spinning. Mostly I wanted to illustrate that Alan could have accidently caused some of these because the rate of these events have been increasing since he vanished. You're from Kyiv? That's cool! Yeah the sky trumpet phenomenon has been something I followed when it first happened.
@@GamingUniversityUoG yep, but I live in a different part of the city so didn't hear the AWEful sound myself (or maybe I just don't remember/didn't pay attention back then?) Thanks for the analysis, I really enjoy watching your videos!
Same here! I played it when I was younger and very much enjoyed it. A couple years back I replayed it and picked up on so much more info I didn't understand when it was first released.
I assume Jesse is going to show up in Alan Wake 2 but I don't expect her to get a massive amount of screen time. She could either play a prominent role in the final "episode" of the game or just show up during the ending, along with the FBC for the "cleanup." And there's also probably going to be some Control 2 foreshadowing. And if Remedy ever manages to get back the publishing rights to Quantum Break, Control 2 would be the perfect opportunity to tease/foreshadow Quantum Break 2. Would be neat if the FBC hired Alan at the end of AW2. Not as an active agent but more as a consultant. Would it even be possible for him to return to his regular, mundane life after all he's been through? And hey - the Oldest House is in New York. Alan's apartment is in New York. So commuting wouldn't be a problem. :P
I hope that Alan wake will come to console eventually. My only experience with this whole universe is control and Jesse because I only play PS4 so my knowledge is very limited. Thanks for the great video. I always look forward to them.
@@GamingUniversityUoG honestly, I was a little bit surprised it ended like this. I was hoping for something more. I even spent few minutes wondering around the location, thinking I missed something, but no, it was all.
What if Alan Wake is Polaris? His time in the dark place has granted him influence and the words he writes take the form of a frequency? That or it's entirely possible that he wrote the FBC and Jesse into existence along with help from Odin and Tor (the message about the town ordinary in their song in american nightmare forshadowing control) He wrote them into existence in order to rescue him from the dark place in the upcoming Alan Wake sequel. This also ties in to the altered items, they could be byproducts of Alans escape attempts that have fallen into our world as the dark place brushes up against our reality.
Excellent video, as always! Can we expect another regarding all the documentation found in the DLC regarding Alan Wake? I'll admit your voice popped in my head when I came across material regarding the "Blessed" organization. Keep up the good work!
I certainly have several topics planned for AWE! I'll probably be bouncing around though since I am trying to include more Quantum Break content in the rotation. Yeah I fist pumped the air when I found the doc about the Blessed Organization.
Potentially speaking Alan is one of the most powerful characters into the universe. What if like Zane gave Alan a weapon to defeat the darkness, one or the other created the FBC to destroy or contain the darkness and save themselves? Just a thought I've had.
Great video as always, your videos really help to analyze things and dig deeper into things I would not be able to think of myself. Thank you for that and keep it up. By the way, i have seen footage of Jesse being able to interact with Dylan in his coma, a short scene follows. Not sure if you already knew, but it was certainly interesting.
I'm glad I could help! Yeah I kind of made this channel so I could share the weird things I see when experiencing a story. I'm happy you get a kick out of it! And yes I have seen that optional scene. I haven't been able to trigger it myself but I watched a video of someone doing it.
Not really why tf does everything need a tv show or movie? Let good stories be told in their respective medium and leave them be i swear modern audiences love ruining good things
There is a TV series in the works for years now. Still trapped in pre-production hell. From my understanding it will be more focused on the town and only dabble with the Alan Wake plotline. We will see though.
They always do. In the metaphysical sense that this story employed, even thoughts have power. Once we put it out there, it is out there forever. Looking at at Real Life, the right words can be used to influence the Course of History.
One thing that I wanted to point out is something I noticed in Alan Wake. Every single objective for missions is written as Jesse doing something. As in, "Jesse goes to the research center to seek out Dr. Darling's office." And things like that. I thought it was just the objectives for AWE but then I looked back and even checked the oldest patch of the game, the very first release. All of them are written like a story. What if Alan was the one that actually guided Jesse? Or at the very least helped set things in motion with his story. We know Polaris survived and it isn't sure how but, but if Alan wrote that Polaris would live so Jesse could defeat The Hiss and then, subsequently, save him, that might've been all of his doing. We know he has constraints himself as to what he can right, but Jesse and the multiple instances of O.o.P's and The Hiss would allow him much more freedom in his writing. This could be how he orchestrates his escape. By setting up Jesse as the Director of the FBC. Hell, Dr. Darling almost sounds like an Alan Wake character. Someone who is brilliant, charismatic, eccentric, and more. Not to mention, and this could be just a coincidence, but they are the same actor so it could be theorized that Alan modeled Darling after himself. What if Alan brought the hiss or wrote for Trench to bring in the Hiss because he wanted it to fight The Dark Place and allow his escape? I mean, we know the Hiss has power over these entities like Hedron and The Board, very powerful beings. Why wouldn't the Hiss be able to defeat The Dark Place too?
The most important question that hasn't been answered about The Dark Place is this: Does Alan eat, and consequently, is there a bathroom? Just the thought is maddening.
Hey! Everything he thinks of comes to life in there so as far as we're concerned he's having grade A steak as his every meal and using a golden toilet.
I love your content man. Simply lovely. Well edited, your voice is smooth and is well researched...also im just interested in these topics! Keep the great work
Also id like to point out: sleep paralysis not "believed" to be caused by chemicals. Its indeed well documented: these chemicals that are released so if you, for example, dream that you play football, you dont start kicking the air while sleeping, so while you suffer from sleep paralysis, the chemicals are still active so you cant move and your brain its still semi dreaming so dreamlike hallucinations are common! Ive had sleep paralysis several times and ive seen dark men, shadowlike, entering my room and giant spiders.
Same here. I have experienced sleep paralysis a few times in my life. The Hypnogogic hallucinations I had was a disembodied head hovering over me and making a Shhing gesture with his finger while giving me a creepy grin. First time it freaked me out because I didn't know what it was.
I'm sure the events of the next game will help to fill in some of those memories, or at least ones that have some importance. I feel that the nest game will be a Control 2 of sorts that takes you to Bright falls. it'd be nice if it was a multi directional game. Example : you play as jesse investigating and filling in the parts that Alan is writing, and then switch back and forth to Alan within the darkness filling the role of Tom the poet, visiting Jesse along the way.
Im curious what direction they would take. If this is Control 2 I expect to have Jesse as the pov character. If it is Alan wake 2 it will either be Alan or a new character to be the pov. It will be jond of hard to use Alan considering where he is at.
That was very insightful, great video! I have a proposal though regarding the first half of the video where you discuss Alan Wake's decade long isolation, I think time doesn't pass like one would expect in The Dark Place, we could see how Alan has barely aged at all, plus the fact that his memory also doesn't work as one would expect because as you said in the end by definition he can't know the ending to the stories he wrote so he has to keep forgetting them, I think these previous points could help explain how he's able to mentally endure a decade in such a place. An alternative explanation is maybe he isn't fully conscious, maybe the Darkness is 'shrouding his mind' like it did in the first game, and it prefers to keep him like that, maybe feeding off of the times it can crawl out of The Dark Place and into 'reality' due to the AWEs potentially caused by the stories he writes as you brought up (great catch by the way).
Amazing video and I've actually been in solitary confinement for a marijuana charge in 2011. I'm not ashamed to admit because it's legal now but I spent 8 days in there over a misunderstanding I read the book The Alienist and also nearly lost my mind until three or four days into it they added a second person who in intervals would talk a bit. I can see why Alan's necessity for a friend figment or no. And that's amazing psychology where it comes to his mental state. The spiral itself represents a descent into madness...I wonder if we rescue him in time or...if he may be permanently damaged. Like Dylan in a way. I mean once he got out would he even believe it?
That's a hard question. He has previously stated that he can never be sure he escaped or has been caught up in the fantasy of it. It will be like the end of inception where he needs something to anchor himself. In that film the pov character used a Top. That's rough though man. In preperation for this I came across some articles from prison guards and wardens about solitary confinement and the things they had witnessed. I'm glad you're doing good now.
@@GamingUniversityUoG Hey don't fret, sometimes standing up for what you believe in gets you in trouble. The incident that led to to confinement is just plain dumb. But yes I'm doing wonderful now. Starting Creative Writing at Full Sail and hopefully turn my experiences and morals into a game format. I'd love to work for Remedy or Double Fine someday.
@@GamingUniversityUoG And thank you for not being judgemental. I enjoy our dialogues. Rarely do I get to discuss the science and fact behind games. What do you think on subliminal messaging? @@GamingUniversityUoG hey I had a question how did you find out what the blacked out words were? It is a compeletionist reward or are there leaks online? Data mining?
@@zombiehippo9477 it's mostly based on other documents - you'll find stuff and dialogue referencing things - for example, the file for the NSC reactor refers to its occupant as a person, whose name starts with "N" and who uses male pronouns - additionally, it details that the reactor requires a LOT of coolant. The Foundation DLC reveals that Director Northmoor was changed by the Board into a parautilitarian, which caused his body temperature to elevate to an extreme degree. Trench references Northmoor's failings, that he had to pick up the gun. All of this basically confirms that the blocked word is NORTHMOOR SARCOPHAGUS CONTAINER, a reactor that uses Northmoor's altered body to create steam to power the bureau.
To compare to another video game character Alan's situation situation is the same as Aqua from Kingdom Hearts, both are traped in a world of pure darkness that leaks into the main world causing problems, both seek a way to escape this world but come up short, both also face against dark versions of themselves who manifest to make them fall further into the darkness and (if it's true the next game will have Alan escape) both are freed from the dark world by an outside force. Sorry just noticed the similarities
Haha same here. I'm a big Kingdom Hearts fan since the beginning. The title of this video was actually a reference to Aqua. In KH3 one of the load screen messages on Sora's Gummiphone had the hashtag #decadeinthedark It actually is part of the Heroes Journey. 'Rescue from Without' Sometimes the hero needs outside help to succeed. This was true for Aqua and I'm suspecting true for Alan.
@@GamingUniversityUoG Yeah Aqua nearly got out earlier then KH 3 but chose to sacrifice her freedom to protect Micky from the Shadow Tornado Heartless. No doubt in some of the unfinished stories maybe Alan chose to sacrifice his attempted freedom to save someone else in a situation he created, We may never know.
Great vid as usual man. Do you think the whole Board vs Former story will unfold in Control 2? I’m just wondering if either of those entities directly have anything to do with Alan.
I am sure we will get more information on the board and former at a later date. Whether it comes from control 2 or alan wake 2 I'm not sure. It may be part of project Vanguard as well. We don't know exactly what that is yet.
Gaming University I just get the feeling that The Foundation DLC was showing more of what to expect from Control’s storyline in the future & AWE was more geared towards what to expect from Alan Wake’s overall story in the future. I’m just constantly itching for more lore on The Former & The Board. In my first couple of hours into the game last year I was already addicted to Control, but the second that giant one-eyed-boi popped out of the darkness I instantly knew that I needed to know more about it & PRAYED it had something to do with the main storyline. You have any personal theories as to what The Former’s actual end goal might be? Or if he’s possibly a character that Remedy fans were already introduced to in the past that is now just in a different form? I’ve also seen theories that he could be Loki.
Considering the space of time between games, 2002, 2003, 2010, 2016, 2019 I bet it will be a couple years. Remedy just did a massive hiring for nw talent so it shouldn't take as long as the previous games.
Yes we won't have to wait for 2022 We will have to wait for 2030 lol 2002 - 2003 = 1 2016 - 2010 = 6 6 - 1 = 5 So the period of every games expand Group 1 ( had 1 year diffrence between the 2 games ) Group 2 ( had 6 years of diffrence in between the 2 games ) Group 3 ( now , had X years of diffrence in between games ) What is X ? Well the diffrence is increasing by 5 years in the 2 groups 1 + 5 = 6 ( group 2 ) And X = 11 because the sequance is "increase by 5" so 2030 it is
Well the story is certainly giving more questions than answers at the moment. It does appear the agency, characters and events in control appear to be alans manuscript as we see from the outside. I wouldn't like to commit to any theories at this point as there are still so many options on the table. Perhaps the clue was in alans hotline about make them do the work, they're obsessed with the mystery I believe the writers are one step ahead of the readers
I frankly don't think Alan wrote all of control. Just pushed over a few dominoes so to speak. But I agree that one of Alan's hotlines was very interesting in how he didn't explicitly say anything in his story, just set up the pieces and let the characters knock them over. In some cases, his words felt like the Remedy authors talling to us, the fans. They simply, give us enough info to guess. And our theories and belief end up shaping the story moving forward. Our crafted urban legends make it real. Granted this was intended for Alan talking about the FBC but it feels a little meta too.
i thought the finale of the AWE dlc made it pretty clear alan wake had been writing night springs episodes during his time in the lake. + the bureau took over producing episodes of night springs as a way to manipulate society. + we also find the 3 pages of his first night springs pilot episode, which ARE the main plot of control(a director and a scientist going into another dimension where the director is taken over (kills himself? i can't remember) and the scientist goes mad. ie, Trench and Darling). +There is a thing (can't remember if it was collectible or just text of final hotline cutscene thing) where he talks about "springs" repeatedly. something like he created the springs. and springs turn into rivers which turn into lakes. At first I was like "that's it huh? not a big climax." But then it struck me this was a not so subtle puzzle pay off that alan's attempts to escape were all night springs episodes, which the bureau produced, and were likely tied to the rise in AWEs. which is why the DLC was called AWE.
@@GamingUniversityUoG disclosing that you in fact *are* under an NDA is breaking another NDA so... Be ready to get a visit from your fellow agents very soon.
I love the connection between Control and Alan Wake and the hint to an Alan Wake 2. But am I the only one who also hoped for some answered questions from the Foundation DLC?
Same here! The civil war between the board and former, what Dr. Ash learned in the foundation, the nature of the ID and Oldest House. I can't get enough of it.
omg i'm so happy they finally continued the story. Twin Peaks style. Go in blind with Alan Wake 2 (know what happened in Control, and Alan wake 1 and AN). And holy wow, just the start! The names, "The Signal", everything, LOVE how it connects.... ofc Alex Casey for the real fans ;)
Remember in the ocean view motel, how we heard a man screaming, but we couldn't see him? And in Alan Wake's American Nightmare Mr Scratch is torturing someone. Perhaps the motel is also connected to the stories alan has written somehow
The motel seems like a nexus of different tiers of reality. An in between place. According to the documents the Butte AWE where the light switch was uncovered was in 1992. So nearly two decades before Alan went to the dark place. That isn't to say one of the doors couldn't link to the desert shore motel. That is still possible. Could be the numbered doors just go to random places. Timeline wise it wouldn't line up since Mr. Scratch did his thing in 2012.
At the end of the game Jesse and Langston talk about an FBC Agent that's set in Bright Falls. I wonder if the next game - Let's say it's called Alan Wake 2 - will have multiple POVs, like this Agent, Alan, and possibly something with Jesse since she's the Director. Anyway, great video, dude, as always :)
I would be interested to see if they go that route. Remedy games tend to have a main character who ends up becoming larger than life, Max(Super soldier), Alan(Shaper of worlds), jack(time wizard lol), Jesse(super hero kinda). So if they do bounce between perspectives it would be an interesting change of pace with characterization.
RUclips gives no notifications of videos being published, even though I have notifications turned on for ALL content on this channel. So damn annoying. Great video though, as always! ❤️
A note: the Kyiv AWE is very similar to real world reports from american embassy oficials... it is known now as Havana Syndrome, I guess it is just a smart reference from the game to real world events.
Yeah the Havanna AWE basically mirrored the event in 2017 in the US embassy. Thetr are still a lot of theories about what caused it from the Sonic Weapon attack that Tomassi mentioned to a Fumigation performed that caused the health effects. Supposedly Havanna Syndrome just had a resurgence in Russia I think.
I find it interesting that Hiss (the Song) is dissonant with the Darkness (Creative Chaos). It's like they are made different. Cannot take up the same space. However, Darkness seems stronger, somehow.
AWE felt more like a story intended to string together the Remedyverse. There were references to other projects, non AW related, that remedy is working on as well. It was a teaser for what is to come.
I never thought of it like that lol. Yeah humans are social creatures. It's good for us to be around people. Locking ourselves away from others isn't good for us in the long run. Short term it can be therapeutic in my experience though haha.
Events of control take place in 2019, events of control AWE dlc take place in 2020 since we see Dylan with a beard and hair so a considerable amount of time has passed. Couple years from 2020 is 2022. Also remedy took 3 yrs after QB to make control, now their next game will also probably take 3 years to make so 3 years from 2019 is 2022.
Exactly as Salman says. Langston says the AWE alert was a couple(2) years in the future. We are assuming it may be either late 2019 or early 2020 by the time AWE occurs.
Depending on when the game takes place in 2019, at the end of the awe dlc you've only been in the oldest house for about a week or so. There's an extra bit of dialog if you go near the space ship in one of the AWE areas Jesse will say something along the lines of how finding out aliens exist would've been more exciting a week ago. Edit- I just rewatched the opening cutscene, judging by how the outside weather looks and how npcs are dressed(some have jackets/t shirts) it's possibly fall or late summer
well langston does say that they are receiving the signal a 'couple' years from the future, the events of this AWE dlc probably take place in 2020 since we see a bearded Dylan now and Remedy is already hard at work on their next game, they took 3 years to make control, take another 3 years for their next game from 2019 so it has to come in 2022.
What if Quantum Break is actually one of these "Failed Drafts" of Return? If the events of Control was Alan setting Jeese up to become the "Hero" that he needed to save him. What if Quantum Break was an attempt to do the same? With Jack being the equivalent to Jesse for that attempt.
There is some evidence to support that this may be the case. There is so much Alan wale stuff leaking through during QB such as the return trailer, the white board, his books making an appearance and even the Monarch staff playing the Alan wake video game.
@@GamingUniversityUoG also the inconsistency with Ordinary. If control is to be believed, Ordinary should be abandoned by the time Quantum Break Occurs, but yet it has a blackout in due to the time manipulation of Jack in a period that should be after the Ordinary AWE
Another great video! It's fantastically depressing what Alan has gone through this whole entire time (especially with the excellent choice of music, made me feel bad lol). But some people on the subreddit have discovered, that for some reason Ordinary, Wisconsin, has now been changed to Ordinary, Maine to plenty of the files now, perhaps after AWE released. Apparently, Quantum Break's version of Ordinary was in Maine, not Wisconsin. Could this be Alan trying to connect these two worlds now, making everything factually correct so they can connect and coexist? It's just strange why they would change it now. Also, Samantha Wells was even said to be in Maine in the wiki too. I don't know how I missed this, but these were two different Ordinary's, and now they're one. Thoughts in this? Quantum Break world starting to get connected? Also, this new Zane character makes sense of being a previous failed art, like Casey. What kind of sucks is that Alan doesn't remember, and possibly even changed the real Zane into something he wasn't, and effecting our perception of him now. And with more people thinking he's a filmmaker... The more he becomes real as the filmmaker. Notice that Jesse in AWE doesn't argue with the fact Zane is a filmmaker even though she found a poem by him.
From what we gather, Ordinary being in Wisconsin was an error on the devs part. If you check the Ordinary AWE documents now they have it labelled as Ordinary, maine when before the docs say Wisconsin. So our theory is they fixed it when AWE came out. Well Quantum Break was connected in some way. One of the Quantum Ripples ended up causing a power outage in Ordinary in 2016, leading to an increase in crime. But we don't know why Will fixing the equation for the Machine ended up causing that. Yeah I found it interesting that the story re-wrote Jesse's memory right there.
@@GamingUniversityUoG okay, completely unrelated, but you should rewatch Trench's monologue... There is so many AWE references in it. You really need to check it out. Someone streamed the ending, and there were so many connections that fit perfectly. Could also be put into a vid
I am a new member of the remedy universe, only really knowing Control really well so if I say something dumb please correct me. I am curious about the power of Alan Wake, his reality-warping powers, I am curious how much can it affect, as an example, can it influence the board and Former? What about Polaris? I actually have an idea, I think Alan Wake with the creation(Or at least influence in the creation) of Jesse and Polaris, wanted to create something he COULDN'T influence, an unknown factor, that is his gamble I think, someone who the darkness can't influence. The reason I suggest this is admittedly speculation, but, he actually sends out a call to Jesse with the Hotline, he actually basically tells her the script, why didn't he just write her doing that? Why send out an actual distress call? I personally think because at that point Alan can't actually control Jesse anymore, he can direct her sure, but Polaris can flare up in defense now. Alan in the first message wrote that Polaris let the message through, while yes that could be him controlling Polaris, it could be him writing an accurate story, trying to tell Polaris to let him through. I also think the fact that Jesse remember Thomas Zane helps this to some degree, I think it shows immunity to changes that the darkness can cause. I will say, I am not sure if this is even that important, I think that outside some easter eggs and DLC stuff they'll keep Alan Wake and Control seperate, just because I think both have while not incompatiable tones(As shown be AWE) they have different tones that make it hard to make a full game from the combination of the two. Add into this that Control already has enough set up for a individual sequel without getting Alan involved(Board vs Former stuff, Paracriminal organisations such as the bright organisation, Hiss, what the hell happened to Darling, to name just a few), I think it would be weird to go into Alan stuff with Control more
Regarding the extent of Alan's ability we don't really know. His stories do have to follow rules, internal logic, dramatic conventions etc so as not to create loopholes for the darkness to exploit. I think it is more a case of nudging smaller pieces together, which can create a cascading effect towards something larger. The process of changing reality is actually explored more in American Nightmare, funnily enough. Although I don't really like the idea of him writing Control in its entirety (and I don't think that is actually the case) there is a meta aspect to it that is interesting. Sam Lake has always wanted to make Alan Wake 2, but for various reasons it never happened. It took Control the game to bridge the gap to Alan Wake 2, which is almost certainly their next game. In the same way Alan had to supposedly write Control to free himself, Remedy basically had to do the same to make AW2. I agree about tone, which is why I think the games will largely 'stay in their lane' so to speak. It's not just tone, but gameplay style as well. Fans of Control's bombastic action might not be terribly interested in the more survival horror aspect of Alan Wake, and vice versa.
@@mjolnir112 Thank you for the explanation! I agree by the way, I don't like the idea that everything in control was something that Alan wrote, partly because it feels...wrong I guess? That this big story was just a story. I am curious whether Ahti will become something of a overarching character in everything, his 'vacation' spot is near couldron lake apparently.
@@mortem9126 Right, almost like the "it's all just a dream" cliche, it feels like it cheapens the narrative. On the other hand breaking the 4th wall, meta stuff like characters alluding to the fact they are in a video game and the blending of fiction and reality is a very Remedy thing and I love that shit lol. I trust Remedy's storytelling, we don't have all the info yet so I'll withhold judgement. As for Ahti yeah we definitely haven't seen the last of him. It's mentioned in the game that he knows the Anderson brothers as well, so the connections are already strong.
I was stopping by to comment but Mjolnir did a good job explaining the basics of how Alan Wake and the Dark Place work. Without spoiling too much of the game, one character even questions him in American Nightmare on this. "Why don't you, I don't know, write yourself superpowers?" It needs to follow rules of drama and a logic that fits the story. If you've ever seen the X-files episode Je Souhaite it involves a Djinn/Genie. When Mulder first becomes bound to it, he wishes for peace on earth. The Djinn agrees and every human being on earth vanishes except for him. She explains that the only time earth will see peace is when humans no longer exist. We can't wish for something that goes against the rest of the story and changing the hearts of the human species is a big change considering our history. Much like a Djinn, the energies that facilitate this reality warping take advantage of things he implies or mistakes within the story to fill in the blanks and do it's own thing. This is the central point of a lot of the drama in the story. So yeah he isn't a god by any stretch of the imagination.
Haha I'm glad I could be of assistance! I feel this would be an easy way to introduce a ton of plot lines into the Remedyverse that could be tackled in later games while staying true to the existing lore.
I had a theory that originally Dylan and Jessie were one person and Alan wrote a story in an attempt to escape that split Jessie and Dylan in to two people and created Polaris and the hiss which those two were results of a previous attempt to create an escape that failed but he forgot they existed he created polaris/hedron as a benevolent ally to attempt to cause it open a way out of the dark place when that failed he created the hiss as a reality parasite that would eat away at the dark place enough for him to get out
There is definitely some evidence that Jesse/Dylan were at one point the same person. Nothing definitive though. Also some that Alan may have had something to do with the Hiss invasion as a Call to Action for Jesse. It is really hard to say. We know he did a lot of writing to try and escape. Most he didn't remember. I'm curious how many things he set in motion that we won't know about until later.
Ah man, I don't know what I would want more - a Control sequel with Alan Wake having a bigger role in it, or an Alan Wake sequel with the Bureau and Jesse in it? Either way, Remedy knocked it outta the park. This was a love letter to all the Alan Wake fans. Truly, a decade in the dark.
At this point Remedy has my complete faith that whatever they decide to do will be fantastic. And yes it has been. Not just for Alan but the AW fans too.
also, remember the dude that stayed in the foundation. He said that the Bureau already was a 21st century office when they found it, and that maybe it has always been like that. Just wanted to throw this out there cause there's a small possibility that Alan may have been the one that created all this crap 😂
Yeah Dr. Ash confirmed that when they found the Oldest House it had the appearance of an office building. He questioned whether it was always that way. Personally I dont think so. I believe it is like the Service Weapon. It takes the form of the wielder/person who occupies it. It could have appeared as a temple at one point, a tree with a door going inside. I feel that is more likely considering again how the Service Weapon once appeared as Excalibur, Mjolnir, and Verunastra.
What if the events of Control are part of a story that Alan is writing? He wrote in an external hero from a different genre that could link up to his reality and help him?
So it is somewhat mentioned in the AWE dlc and clarified in the Control Art Book. But Alan did play a role in the Hiss invasion and inviting Jesse to the Oldest House. But he did not create her from nothing. The FBC and she existed before he was even lost in the dark place. He just nudged a few things to prepare a hero who may rescue him.
I feel so sad for alan 😭 he should get out and have a happy ending and maybe meet jesse in person and adventure through the other doors of the oceanview motel
Holy crap I read Jonathan Hoag when I was a lot younger. I knew I liked Control and Alan Wake so much for a reason. I think a lot of that influence really shows in Control especially and I must have picked it up without realising. If you like Control and Alan Wake then you should really check out Heinlien. He's a far superior author to Steven King. My favorite story of his is a short story about a time traveler who inadvertently, simultaneously, becomes his own mother, father, and daughter. Yes, daughter. Just read it. Its called -all you zombies-. No, I still have no idea why its called that. (And yo, really appreciate using Frog's Theme from Chrono Trigger as your outro music, song kicks ass)
Heinlein is a legend lol. I grew up with his name used in daily conversation. Jonathan Hoag was a crazy good story. One of those that I catch myself thinking about on occasion.
@@GamingUniversityUoG My dad got me to read it. All the ideas in it are so interesting and creepy at the same time. The more I remember, the more I remember the feeling of being creeped out, and Control's ideas and themes make me feel *exactly* the same way. He must have been a strong influence on Remedy.
The book that I influenced Control the most is Mark Danielewski's House of Leaves. That's another weird one. I'm currently reading it for the first time now.
Oh shit I just looked that author up and it turns out he's a communist. LOL No, I'll be having nothing to do with someone who supports Marxist terrorists.
God, we hope not...
I imagined Alan in 2022 screaming like Sirius Black:
"I'VE DONE MY WAITING ! 12 YEARS OF IT ! IN THE DARK PLACE !" xD
I don't think he'll die, he's one of Remedy's iconic characters.
For those that haven't heard the news, Remedy officially announces Alan Wake 2, coming in 2023. The story continues!
I cannot wait!
I hope Quantum Break is connected to these stories. Don't get me wrong, I'm super hyped for the continuation, but Quantum Break's ending was a pretty big cliffhanger.

@@dave_the_slick8584 I wouldn’t be suprised if Remedy is still planning on buying the rights to QB in the future. I think in some form or another it will come up again

I wish there were more channel discuss about remedy connected universe like this one
Let me plug Max Derrat on RUclips to give you some more Remedy content. He has some content in the works that is mind blowing!
I can vouch for this
Well, it’s just been established so of course there’s not many people talking about it.
The universe is still beginning its genesis, wait a few years for the lore to be expanded and explored in their upcoming games.
@@GamingUniversityUoG coming from the latest datamined leaks of Alan Wake 2,
It was actually found out that Alan literally receives visions and hints of events that have happened/or will happen from other world/s to help serve as inspiration for his recent writings to escape the Dark Place.
Bit.
Why do you say "Jesse Dylan Faden" as if they were one person, is that what they were supposed to be or did i miss something???
I think we will be playing as Alan wake and agent Estevez since she was mentioned as the on site agent investigator at bright falls and she’s on it.
Her blog does end with, "I'll be here, waiting."
it might seem weird but i just don't think Alan has the agency to be writing Jesse into his own story; Alan himself is a trope made of tropes - i believe he/his story was generated by the Typewriter Object of Power/Altered Item to gain power xoxo
that's the most generic function of what a typewriter OoP would do, right? i admit, i played Control first and have only seen a bit of Alan Wake but he is barely in control (lol) of his life while JESSE is a f*cking beast
there is literally nothing so far making me think he is real(er than her); he himself is barely gripping sanity and he did not have magic powers (to my knowledge) before that Typewriter was brought to his room
AWE = Alan Wake Event
I'm currently making a video summarizing the story of Alan Wake and this made my life so much easier. Thanks for this video bro
If they do, I hope it wont be another damn Xbox exclusive or I’m going to be pissed.
This video made me appreciate both game’s writing so much more. The whole theory that Alan caused the rise in awe’s with his escape attempts is absolutely genius and helps to explain certain events
It would make way too much sense and be a really interesting way to show his presence despite not being present.
I wonder if there will be a game where all the main characters of the Remedy games come together to face some grand threat to they’re multi-verse?.
Yeah man we probably might get an avengers team up type game in the future with all the characters from remedy games 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Gaming University how do you think a game like that would work?
It that happens, I'd love to see Jack Joyce's reaction to meeting Jesse Faden... there would have to be some explaining to do.
@@GamingUniversityUoG yeah that makes a lot more sense now. It would've been wild if the whole game of control was just another one of Alan's stories.
The Andersons always referred to Alan Wake as Thomas Zane. I wonder it this has something to do with it.
@@abchk22 They apparently looked really similar
Awesome video as always just a theory but the idea of scrapped untold stories written by Wake could be a fourth wall reference to the numerous follow ups Remedy had attempted to write for the original game but were scrapped.
I honestly had the same idea. Alan Wake was planned on a trilogy. Even though we never got it, remnants of what they planned to do can be found in Quantum Break and Control. If you can find a copy, order Alan Wake Illuminated. It's a behind the scenes art book that discusses things that were cur and their original intention for the trilogy.
@@GamingUniversityUoG Thanks for the heads up I'll definitely get a copy if I can find one
Maaan you channel is such a gem ,let me tell you my story very quickly x)
so i started control at the start of 2020 (played it like any other game ,i enjoyed it ,but thats it ,nothing more ,especially cause i rarely read all the documents and had no prior knowledge of the references ) then i took a break for a month or so ,when i decided to continue playing ,i though "yeah ,lets check a RUclips video to help me remember what happened up until now on the game) and i stumbled upon your channel ,watched most of the videos and ohh boy did i enjoy them ,and they opened my eyes on how complex and well written the game is (and later the RemedyVerse) ,so i played control (and both of the DLCs) and enjoyed them much more knowing the lore ,and now i plan on playing all the other remedy games (Alan Wake and Quantum break especially) ,and i always rush to watch your videos when they come out ,they are as great of an experience as the games themselves ,hope you continue talking more about Control especially ,and that you get a looot more subs ,you honestly deserve that
I'm glad to hear that I was able to help enhance your enjoyment of this game.
@@GamingUniversityUoG Sometimes all we need is a little bit of curiosity to see things in a whole different way indeed ,your story with Remedy games is really interesting too ,also I'm glad that you enjoy making these videos and get to learn a lot yourself along the way ,keep it up 💯🔥
I'm going to say this: Good job, Remedy, you got a bright future of games ahead of you.
I really feel like Remedy propelled themselves to new levels with Control. I can't wait to see what they have coming!
Absolutely correct. Sleep paralysis and Hypnogogic Hallucinations tend to go hand in hand.
I've seen a shadow dog before.. it was terrifying..
Towards the end of the dlc when Alan was begging to be rescued. I started tearing up, because I was begging too.
Same here brother. Seriously I think it makes it worse for those of us who have spent the last decade worrying for Alan, trying to imagine ways to give him a happy ending. I feel we are just as desperate as he is.
when I saw the ending of AWE I thought we were going to rescue him, I almost cried. I know it's just a game but it's so intense damn
I am loving your Control/Alan Wake content. You've got the best insight on these games from what I have witnessed. Please keep up the good work!
I'll keep then coming as long as Remedy keeps making great games!
Finally been waiting for you to upload a vid based on the awe dlc 🔥♥️💯🔥🔥🔥 love ur content btw ♥️
So much fire! Haha thank you so much. Yeah I wanted to take a week off in order to allow everyone to enjoy it at their own pace before diving in.
That is an interesting coincidence isnt it. Almost like Ahti positioned himself there just in case 🤔😉
There's also the Wake Writes a Beginning Hotline, which suggests even more collateral damage (although its unclear whether Wake CREATED or simply MODIFIED the Hiss in this case.)
....orange peel
Spider Time! At this point we know Alan doesn't shy away from collateral damage. He mentions in one of his tv rants in AW that for the story to work there has to be sacrifices otherwise the story isn't believable.
Interesting how Alan himself says he's changed himself during rewrites.
Very interesting.
He created a version of himself that could do some cardio 😂
I was waiting for this video keep up the good work!
I absolutely will! Thanks
Alan Wake. Literally the only Xbox 360 game I enjoyed so much, I've played it over and over.
Never heard of it evoking fear from random objects. Scary and interesting.
@@GamingUniversityUoG yep, but I live in a different part of the city so didn't hear the AWEful sound myself (or maybe I just don't remember/didn't pay attention back then?)
Thanks for the analysis, I really enjoy watching your videos!
Great video, thanks for taking time to explain everything, but I was pretty young when I played Alan Wake, I remember I loved it so much.
We are still hoping that we may get a modern generation remaster of Alan Wake. If we do... stay tuned lol. Imagine AW with Ray Tracing.
Gaming University would be nice. And would be even nicer if everyone can get included to enjoy the full experience!
So, there's a chance for Alan Wake 2 in 2022, I guess! Hope to see him alive and not only as a remnants we saw in AWE.
Good work as usual!
Yep! AWE Spoilers!!!
The dlc ends with Langston receiving a new AWE alert in Bright Falls Washington. The weird thing is it is dated for 2022.
@@GamingUniversityUoG honestly, I was a little bit surprised it ended like this. I was hoping for something more. I even spent few minutes wondering around the location, thinking I missed something, but no, it was all.
The thing I was expecting to see the least was the reference to the 'blessed' corporation.
I was so happy to see that make it into the expansion. It was too big of a thing to ignore.
Best video I could have woken up to see on my feed.
Glad I could help you start the day off right!
This story deserves a TV series
Not really why tf does everything need a tv show or movie? Let good stories be told in their respective medium and leave them be i swear modern audiences love ruining good things
There is a TV series in the works for years now. Still trapped in pre-production hell. From my understanding it will be more focused on the town and only dabble with the Alan Wake plotline. We will see though.
One possible takeaway from this essay is that "words are never just 'words' but have power."
Well we do know that there are Spiders in the Dark Place. Alan's been eating some good protein.

Thank you for asking the difficult yet prescient questions....
10 years Alan Wake has been number 1 on my must have a sequel to list n finally it is coming
Great video
Thanks buddy!
Not just in games but I've started seeing more and more in video games these days. If you ever wanna correspond with me privately you can email me, zombiehippo420@yahoo.com.
Thank you so much for the Control content. I absolutely adore this game. I cannot wait for more content !!!
It has been a pleasure to put these out for everyone! Thank you so much! I have some new content that should be out shortly!
In KH3 one of the load screen messages on Sora's Gummiphone had the hashtag #decadeinthedark
It actually is part of the Heroes Journey.
I hope we don’t really need to wait for Control2 or Alan Wake 2 until 2022😭😭😭
Considering the space of time between games, 2002, 2003, 2010, 2016, 2019 I bet it will be a couple years. Remedy just did a massive hiring for nw talent so it shouldn't take as long as the previous games.
Yes we won't have to wait for 2022
We will have to wait for 2030 lol
2002 - 2003 = 1
2016 - 2010 = 6
6 - 1 = 5
So the period of every games expand
Group 1 ( had 1 year diffrence between the 2 games )
Group 2 ( had 6 years of diffrence in between the 2 games )
Group 3 ( now , had X years of diffrence in between games )
What is X ?
Well the diffrence is increasing by 5 years in the 2 groups
1 + 5 = 6 ( group 2 )
And X = 11 because the sequance is "increase by 5" so 2030 it is
Loved the dark tone of the vídeo.
Meanwhile, in game, there is a dude " they forgot me staring a fridge".
Nice essay.
I didn't intend it to be dark on this one but it kind of fit the thesis of the essay so it worked out.
Poor Philip. He is the true MVP.
Love Your videos, I'm sure you have worked for the Bureau in the past.
Well when you retire from the FBC you need to sign a non disclosure agreement. So... I can't say more 😋
@@GamingUniversityUoG disclosing that you in fact *are* under an NDA is breaking another NDA so... Be ready to get a visit from your fellow agents very soon.
Control would make a very good TV series.
Agreed maybe it comes out after control 2 once lockdown is lifted, and it being about a random agent joining the fbc and finding out things.
Control tricked me to revisit Alan Wake and buy the remastered version. :)
Haha sneaky remedy
@@GamingUniversityUoG Yeah, they'll probably just be the supporting cast to Alan, but it would be interesting hahah
RUclips gives no notifications of videos being published, even though I have notifications turned on for ALL content on this channel. So damn annoying.
Great video though, as always! ❤️
Make sure to have the Bell pressed? I don't know that's the only thing I have heard about notifications. And thanks!
Well with Hartman the two fused together and they ended up enhancing one another into something more powerful than either.
*"the Sound made darker, the Darkness made louder"*
Yeah I’m thinking this means we will get Alan Wake 2 in 2022 on the next gen consoles
It will be glorious to behold an Alan wake game on next gen consoles!
Gaming University I couldn’t agree more 💯
But I feel we needed answers to already posed in control itself but got more questions instead.
AWE felt more like a story intended to string together the Remedyverse. There were references to other projects, non AW related, that remedy is working on as well. It was a teaser for what is to come.
1:12 huh, so that's why I _feel_ I've become a bit... _weirder_ during the lockdown?
I never thought of it like that lol. Yeah humans are social creatures. It's good for us to be around people. Locking ourselves away from others isn't good for us in the long run. Short term it can be therapeutic in my experience though haha.
6:50 I had this exp. back siting in a van in Thailand(sleep, wake, can't speak or move. Had to calm myself down and wait).
How do you know it is 2022 when the next awe will occur at Bright Falls? I only hear Langston say it’s a couple years in the future...
There's an extra bit of dialog if you go near the space ship in one of the AWE areas
Jesse will say something along the lines of how finding out aliens exist would've been more exciting a week ago.
Edit- I just rewatched the opening cutscene, judging by how the outside weather looks and how npcs are dressed(some have jackets/t shirts) it's possibly fall or late summer
Now, with the highsight of the trailer for Alan Wake 2, I think the enemies we are going to encounter are Alan's mistekes to came back to reality
after finishing AWE, I've been awaiting your input. lol.
Hope I didn't disappoint lol! Yeah I wanted to take a break and let people play it before going in full steam.
The possibility that Alan created the Hiss is very interesting to me
It would be nuts if he at the very least unleashes them on the House.
I absolutely love the video but one question, i played AWE and i'd like to know how do we know the new bright falls awe will occur in 2022?
In the ending cutscene, langston said there was a new AWE alert in Bright Falls. However, he wasnt sure what sent it because it was dated in 2022.
well langston does say that they are receiving the signal a 'couple' years from the future, the events of this AWE dlc probably take place in 2020 since we see a bearded Dylan now and Remedy is already hard at work on their next game, they took 3 years to make control, take another 3 years for their next game from 2019 so it has to come in 2022.
@@GamingUniversityUoG Thanks
@@salmankhan2739 Thanks
Man I fucking love Alan Wake and Conreil us the dlc. I am loving the remaster and I still need to play the control expansions.
After finishing all Alan Wake content, the DLC in control is so enjoyable.
I will make sure to do that thanks!
So yeah he isn't a god by any stretch of the imagination.
... OH. This makes sense. I love that it makes sense, I love this.
Haha I'm glad I could be of assistance! I feel this would be an easy way to introduce a ton of plot lines into the Remedyverse that could be tackled in later games while staying true to the existing lore.
Who is here after Alan Wake 2?
I'm here lol. Going to have to update a lot of my videos now that we have more info
Outstanding video thanks
Ah man, I don't know what I would want more - a Control sequel with Alan Wake having a bigger role in it, or an Alan Wake sequel with the Bureau and Jesse in it? Either way, Remedy knocked it outta the park. This was a love letter to all the Alan Wake fans. Truly, a decade in the dark.
At this point Remedy has my complete faith that whatever they decide to do will be fantastic. And yes it has been. Not just for Alan but the AW fans too.
Alan Wake 2! 2023!!
I'm psyched!
also, remember the dude that stayed in the foundation.
@@GamingUniversityUoG that's cool.
I feel so sad for alan 😭 he should get out and have a happy ending and maybe meet jesse in person and adventure through the other doors of the oceanview motel
I think Alan deserves a nice break before going in any new adventures. Once he is out that is. Our boy needs a vacation.
@@GamingUniversityUoG I'll check that. I'm still playing through Foundation, and I think once I'm done with that I'll still be craving more.
Oh shit I just looked that author up and it turns out he's a communist. LOL No, I'll be having nothing to do with someone who supports Marxist terrorists.
I hope Remedy makes a game for the 2022 event. I'd love to see Alan finally escape
Absolutely! It will be such an event when/if that happens. Over 12 years real time of anticipating it.
