- Dinosaur Jr. & Del tha Funkee Homosapien performing "Missing Link" from the Judgment Night soundtrack, 1993. Look for Mike Watt (Minutemen, fIREHOSE, The Stooges) on the bass and Beastie Boy Mike D. on drums.
This is the only live performance of that track :)
How convenient--everything great about the 90's in a single video.
90s sucked
Except Arsenio
Damn, Mike Watt, Mike D., Dinosaur Jr, Del, crazy. Literally everyone playing has made legendary, essential records.
And don't forget Joey from Friends on bass 3:14
This is so heavy. Idk how some of ya'll dont like this live version. This is a masterpiece
This performance is what made me buy the soundtrack
Damn straight
It’s the balance of the mix, the guitars are too loud but that is not the band’s fault but it’s the FOH’s fault.
One of the greatest collaborations of all time
Yeah it's great, wouldn't say of all time 😂
Mate, this song is insane, wonderfull mix of styles and deliciously off beat
Man, I wish there was more material with this surely one off line up of Dino Jr. J with Mike Johnson (Mark Lanegan, Queens of the Stone Age), Mike D (the Beastie Boys), and Mike Watt (the Minutemen, fireHose, the Stooges). Amazing amount of talent right there.
There is, you just have to look hard for it
Mike D playing drums for J Mascis. I can die happy now.
Del and Dinosaur are both underrated and overtly talented
It doesn’t matter if it’s the Beatles or Led Zeppelin, some sod on the RUclips comments is gonna say “underrated”, thinking he’s made an insightful comment.
@@evanoglesby9504except in this case it checks out. I see plenty of Nirvana and Tupac shirts at Hot Topic in the mall. Not many Dinosaur Jr and Deltron.
You probably thought what you typed was smart. It wasn’t.
except its actually true in this case lol. if u think the beatles or led zeppelin are underrated u r pretty stupid@@evanoglesby9504
This collaboration represents perfectly the potential of the early 90’s. It didn’t last, but it was cool while it was happening.
That whole soundtrack was groud breaking. LIve bands and hip hop. This is pre Roots era. So lets just give respect to the genius of this shit.
This soundtrack was definitely influential, but it, actually, wasn't "pre Roots era." The Roots formed in '87 and their debut album, Organix, came out months prior to The Judgment Night Soundtrack, while Rage Against The Machine released their debut toward the end of 1992. Prior to this, there was also the whole "Walk This Way" collab between RUN DMC and Aerosmith (1986) which was a massive hit, as well as the version of "Bring The Noise" that Public Enemy re-recorded with Anthrax (1991).
This video is great and the Judgment Night soundtrack, although uneven, had some great songs on it. What it really seemed to give way to, unfortunately, is the whole rap nu-metal rap/rock surge of bands like Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park, which some people see as less of a positive than others might.
monsterfresh
Organix was an Indie album so it did not get th e wide spread listen that it could have. Pre roots era meaning musically of the Roots did not make wide spread impact until "do you want more?".
No doubt the roots where in existence prior to this soundtrack being dropped, and there have always been fusion based mash ups that popped up now and then in various songs.
However for a Major to push a soundtrack with this much progression was unheard of. The fact it was a soundtrack gave it that much more for the greenlight of the project.
It was the first time that I can remeber, and I remember a lot, that an artist with a strong "underground" following, even though being two major label albums deep, Del was able to break out to a larger mainstream audience and in turn this pushed for a stronger sales surge for the whole Heir crew in general, which was a good thing.
Of course Organix had more of the live feel to it. And overall we can't even compare, Organix is much more solid as an album ( though lets be honest, its not their best work and had more of a juvenile / demo feel to it that as opposed to a solid album. Sort of how gangstarrs no more mister nice guy was their first album, be as Guru and Primo both admitted, to them it was a demo.)
How ever, as far as impact and opening up a much wider spectrum of experimentation this soundtrack played a major part. It was not a hip hop band, making hip hop music. It was established grunge and alt bands collabing' with established rappers. A bit different.
It's cool someone ( you ) knows their hip hop shit! lets do some co reviews on iconic albums. lol.
Not to mention the fact that almost all of the early rap records were recording using live bands. Rappers Delight, for example, was a live band, not the Chic sample. Also, the Beastie Boys had also done some of this sort of thing on Paul's Boutique in 1989 (Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun) and a lot of it on Check Your Head (1992). Peep Mike D on the drums on this video.
Beastie Boys check your head was the year before this.
That is one shit ton of talent on one stage.
what a cool era
Just remembered the 90’s was dope
This was one of my favorite songs from this amazing soundtrack
One of the best not just collaborations but overall Album of ALL TIME. Every song is fire.
Judgement Night !
Still in '24... ❤
that whole sound track was awesome but this song was by far the best. hyro/del and dino jr. too cool for words...
MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE
It was good, but I think the best was either Pearl Jam/Crypress Hill or Faith No More/Boo Ya Tribe. Love the whole soundtrack.
del just knows how to rock the crowd
I miss the 90s !
Well after a decade this still hits me right between the eyes
Del is the greatest lyricist of all time...
I remember staying up for the second showing of this just so I could record it and being so happy when I dubbed it to my cassette tape to play in my Walkman…how’s that for 90s ish?
Two of my favourite musical acts in the early 1990s on one firin tune. Was great to be young back then
This is insanely better then the album version. Much of the album could have been mixed better to seem like the styles were better blended. This live recording shows that blending and working together of styles. I always though the stand out track on the album was Mix A Lot with Mudhoney cus that track was right on every level.
They’re both great
Three Mikes: D, Johnson and Watt.
I'm glad I stumbled upon this too! I always loved the Judgement Night soundtrack and this track was my favorite off the CD(well, cassette tape back when I bought it...lol). I was blown away that they actually did a live version!!!!
this song is insane it's been replaying in my head all day and the way that del effortlessly kept the flow live?? talent
Cause he never flows simply and his flow is never quiting
Live this song and didnt know a live version was ever recorded!!! Thanks!!! Btw with Mike D and Mike Watt!?!?!? How cool is it ya got hip hop and hardcore history just intertwined here.
This is the best thing i've seen in youtube.
First time I've seen this track performed live &, got to say, I'm impressed - J.
The 90's were truly a magical time... a magical drug induced time...
I love this song
傑作!! 独特なフロウ、飽きられないギターリフ。ラッパーとバンドの相性が良い。ライブ映像をみられるとは思わなかった。
ありがとうございます。
For the 3 people on here that don't like this its not supposed to sound pretty its supposed to sound nasty which it highly succeeds in go listen to madonna or def leppard if you want studio music
I’ve been more of a fan of this track for the past few years. But Damn, I didn’t have any idea of a live performance. Awesome!
One of the GOAT songs and collabs
Thanks for uploading this!
Such a great song!
Absolutely amazing.
How did this sound not take the fuck off?
Del is so good its not even fair
Great song, amazing album.
Del is the only rap artist I'll listen to. Him with Dinosaur Jr, my favorite band of all time, makes me so extremely happy.
This is awesome. Sounds great live, too. Wow.
Holy fuck! I did not know this was ever recorded live! Amazing :D
Mike watt w/ DEL and dinasour jr...... wat a combination. I was only 3 when this was made so I wasn't old enough to catch this so thank you!!!! ( also didnt realize Mike D. was on the drums!.)
Is that Mike D playing the drums?
It is!
This is an all star squad
Shit !!!! I miss the 90's so so much!
Amazing soundtrack from being to end . These mumble rap generation will never understand. Classic
Teran Jones. Del dropping his birth name
I love this song, but this was when Dinosaur Jr was just J Mascis.
In the studio he was likely playing everything. Guitar, bass drums, and would just get these other guys to play live.
Wait Del was rapping like this 93?! Damn. I always figured he was late 90s. That's dope
Lol guess you've heard 93 to infinity. Check out hieroglyphics and souls of mischief
That's just an insane amount of history and talent on stage.
Thank you for posting the video!
Omg year and YEARS later and this it still fucking great song ❤
yes, yes, yes. arsenio, dinosaur jr., and del the funky homosapien. yes.
GOLD!!! Awsome! Didn’t have an idea of the existence of this live!
they should all make an album this is too good!
I just discovered this video. It is AMAZING!
Wish they made a whole album together
Holy crap, absolutely killer.
Brilliant!
so not really Dino jr but maybe the Dino-minute-boyz band. the original on the CD is actually Dino jr & del yes?
All time greatness
Still love them....
Best soundtrack ever!!!
Glad I stumbled upon this.
1993 , the 90s !!!!!!!!!!!!, Idid remember when this movie soundtracks came out, to be honest I am glad I was not born 20 years ago ..............; 20 years in 2020.................... that sucks
Muy buena!! La conocía gracias a que uno de mis hermanos se compro el cd en la época!! Como pasa el tiempo!, Y PARECE QUE AUN FUE AYER
This song is still good almost 20 years on. Got the album the year I started working nightclubs and it till make the hairs stand up on my arm.
30 years on, still rips.
Agreed
So good
Dinosaur jr, if you're reading this, can I rap this while you guys play it at a show?
Hot damn, this is sweet!
MIKE D on drums?! O my God!
Que performance ao vivo.
Pure rap!!
This is fucking amazing
AWESOME!
Del is GOAT
J looks great!
Man This Cat is Ill. Mr. Ill Jones......no doubt. This Doo. Man. I wouldn't be where I am as an emcee if it weren't for Del Tha Funkee Homosapien. Also that's how it should be spelled cuz he's dope as two E's. funkee. funkee . funkee. hieroglyphics 1997 Jay X
That sounds a little chaotic!
Hate to break it to you bro, but it's been TWO decades. :P
EPIC
top
Every time I hear his name I almost expect del the funky homosexual
Actually Mike Johnson came up with a lot of his own basslines after Where You Been?.
Damn hippies
I thought that was lmike D.
is that arsenio hall?
Del
fucking gold
2020? Anyone?
I find it odd that they still deem to call it 'Dinosaur JR' when the only link it has to Dinosaur JR is J. Mascis. Even if they had already kicked Lou Barlow out by now, it doesn't even have Murph on drums (?). Odd.
mike johnson is playing guitar
N!!CE
Lol J wanted to burst into a 15 minute solo so bad...
Can you really call that line-up Dinosaur Jr.?
Jmascis is dj sorry
Puke!
haha, this is missing something to original and it is not a link :)
KBHK TV 44
"alternative rock"
I bet J cringed.
