  • ring the Oklahoma Joe's Bronco to the Pit Barrel Cooker. What a fun cook indeed. Dis a rack of Prime Beef Ribs on each. Same rubs, same wood, same charcoal. If you were torn between these two cookers, tune in to see what I learned.

    Very fair comparison! I’m looking for a similar cooker in that price point. To me the Oklahoma Joes might have some small advantages. Thanks for taking the time and effort to share your experience and thoughts!

      @@uncledickie However, I just watched the video you posted about the Oklahoma Joes, Pit barrel cooker AND the Weber Smokey Mountain. I already have a 22” Weber kettle performer, I am leaning towards the Weber. Simply because I have Plenty of experience on the product not to mention a boat load of accessories that will more than likely transition nicely to a 22” Smokey mountain. Thanks again for comparing the three cookers. I know there probably is no clear answer to what one is the best. I guess what might make the end user to make his/ her mind up is what they are wanting versus what they already have.

    Great editing in the video and good comparison. After owning both the PBC and the Bronco, I’d probably have to go with the PBC. It’s just easier to use and cooks great food. I do still like them both though. However, I would take a WSM over both of the cookers. I added a hanging rack and a firedial diffuser and it’s way more versatile.

    As you know, I have the Pit Barrel Cooker. It is easy to use. I was at Wally World the other day and saw the Bronco on clearance for about $250. I thought about picking one up in case my 1st gen PBC ever rusts out but opted not to.
    The things I like about the Bronco are that you hook food higher I believe. That means, I would think, you could hook a whole slab of ribs that you can't always do on the PBC. I also like that you can dial in temps quickly and easily with the Bronco and that you have arms/trays to set food beside it.
    The PBC is more mobile. The Bronco is heavy like a tank! Water collects on the PBC lid (not ideal but not horrible) but water can get in the exhaust of the Bronco if left open. I wonder if that might have any effect on things if you smoke in the rain? I'm not real sure how the ash removal compares.

    • @uncledickie
      @uncledickie  5 лет назад

      Ash removal is much easier on the Bronco IMO, but you are correct when you say the Bronco is a tank lol. I actually use my PBC for SCA events because it's so light and its a set it and forget it setup. I do like them both , and they produce great tasting BBQ, What a great comment! Thanks for stopping by.

    • @ChipsOutdoorChannel
      @ChipsOutdoorChannel 5 лет назад

    Great video. +1 sub for the creativity. Did you notice any flavor difference? I've heard the PB gives a char flavor due to the grease hitting the coals. Your experience?

      They tasted the same, The Bronco has a removable heat shield so you can get the same effect. Sorry for the late response, just got a new job so no more 90 hour weeks!

    great video. Did you use wood or just charcoal?

    • @uncledickie
      @uncledickie  3 года назад +1

      Jolo! I use wood chunks buried in the charcoal. That way it smolders and gets better smoke. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment, it is very much appreciated!

    Did you use the same amount of charcoal in each of them and was dampers opened the same, how many inches for cooking surface on both

    • @uncledickie
      @uncledickie  5 лет назад +1

      Same amount of charcoal, same amount of wood and same amount of charcoal starters. The PBS is set according to their spec for the elevation I live at. The Bronco can be tuned with the dampers to control temperature and I had them both between 275-300 if I remember correctly. I'll be doing a video comparing these two to a WSM and have better temperature information then

    But, which cooker will last longer?

    • @uncledickie
      @uncledickie  4 года назад

      Not sure, I've had both for a little while now and both are still in excellent shape. The Bronco, IMO, is more heavy duty but I keep my grills under a roof and covered. And I cook on both of the at least 3 times a week and they are both still solid.

    Is the bronco wide enough to cook a 15 # brisket or so on it, it looked small in diameter

    • @Mr5picker
      @Mr5picker 5 лет назад +1

      Bronco is 18 inches wide, PBC is 18.5 I believe. Should hold a large brisket no problem. What lots of folks do is start them out hanging - they'll shrink quite a bit - then place on grate after a several hours.

    Easier to control heat on bronco. Pit barrel will burn the end closest to fire 9 times out of ten. Jmo

      I agree, I did the comparison again and added a Weber Smokey Mountain. There are actually 2 videos on the new comparison. One video I go through the spec's of each cooker, and the other is a cook off . I score each unit and it is a much better comparison I believe. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment, it is very much appreciated.
