If anyone is on a tight budget, shop thrift store, they have backpacks all the time. I've gotten a camp stove, a giant life straw still in the box and plastic wrapped. Sleeping bags, winter boots (I live up north), and check camping isles in the winter. They clearance things like lanterns and flashlights. One flashlight that sold for over $60. Originally, I got $12. It has a seat belt cutter, flint fire starter, and window breaker on the end. I can't keep water in my car because it will freeze during the winter, but I never leave home without grabbing some even if I'm going to the grocery store a few miles away. Granola bars keep for a long time.

For my bugout bag I have hygiene products, first aid kit, lanterns, matches, propane stove, dish soap, cleaners, plastic ware, dominos, pots and pans, small speaker, charger and blocks clothes and extra shoes. Still working on it, need wound care products, propane, small cutting board, blankets, tent, heaters, water filters and definitely want solar panels and generators.

Something that's important and low cost is make copies of all of your important documents, passports, marriage license, divorce decrees, child custody, mortgage/rental papers, insurance, medical, keep one paper copy off site with a trusted out if state friend or relative, and an electric copy in the cloud or thumb drive.

Good information Barbara. Don't forget to add a rainsuit, tools, a small tarp, and a mini cook stove like Sterno and Sterno stove. I also keep extra underwear, jogging pants and T-shirt in my bag. I am planning to add a small pop-up tent in case I can't find shelter and have to live or sleep outside.

They also have like 100 item survival supply kits on Amazon that will periodically be $10-$15 that includes so many helpful things. Can opener. Tools. Paracords. First aid. Lots of stuff.

Great video! You're so real and loved listening to your story. After watching the LA fires, I decided to update my to-go bag (carry-on) with my important documents: birth certificate, social security card, covid card, medical info, passport, etc. I have photocopies of everything along with driver's license, medical and house/car insurance cards, and it's on my phone pics and emailed to myself under an emergency folder.
For me, important vital papers are a nightmare if lost.
I like those big blue insulated Trader Joe's bags to hold toiletries/extra clothes, meds, extra eyeglasses/sunglasses, extra battery chargers, plus other important irreplaceable sentimental small items.
Still adding other things to this. But if it can fit in my car, it's going with me. The goal is to fit my life in 4 suitcases if I need to evacuate pronto. The furniture and house can be replaced.

  • @Kenderchild
    @Kenderchild 2 дня назад +2

You're off to a good start.
I recommend if you have an extra flash drive - usually 16gb minimum works - use your local library to scan copies of any important documents (id cards, bank account information, birth certificates, marriage license, deeds, diplomas, et cetera), irreplaceable photographs, letters, recipes, and basically any information you want to keep safe.
I always recommend adding pure honey to a bag for medical purposes. It can also double as a sweet treat if needed, but it's such a great antibiotic.
Something for comfort and entertainment. Boredom can make any disaster so much worse especially if you have kids. A coloring/puzzle book or card game can go a long way. Each kid bag should have at least one comfort item- a plush or blanket or toy. It doesn't hurt for the adults to have one either....
Always have a set of smalls and socks. Even if you can't fit a whole outfit, clean smalls can be such a relief.
There are other things that come to mind, but most are personal preference. The above I would recommend to anyone and everyone.

You can buy many of you emergency kits items at your local dollar and discount stores in your communities. Ms. Barbara you are right because I though I had no more table salt in the house, in my storage and I found some in the bathroom, then I said to the Lord and when this one container runs out then what the Lord said to me use pink salt and the next time you go to the store buy some more at the one of the dolor stores to restock you back up.

Get a paper map of your area. Mark the street of people that you know and would be safe to be there. Also mark the streets of where you know would be unsafe. We depend on roads and gps way too much. Think about if you had to leave your vehicle and a main road. Could you find your way through the woods or around a river or lake? Learn to use a compass and keep one in your bag. It may come in handy to have copies of your important papers... drivers license, SS card, birth certificate etc. **Edited to add* a thick large trash bag, duct tape, a pocket knife and 50' of paracord. This can keep you warm and dry among other uses.

Girl, yes….get that emergency bag ready!!!!!….I started putting mine together about 2 yrs ago and I feel so good knowing that I have them….I keep one in my car (to get home) which would have helped in your situation and then my go bag at home with a little more items and household documents sealed in a waterproof/fireproof bag….you can also keep a bag in your office…..BAGS EVERYWHERE! 😂
*Things I would recommend for others to keep in your vehicle…..
a pair of sneakers (with socks) ….a small toiletry bag (go to dollar tree for your items)….toilet tissue/wipes….heavy duty trash bags (and we all have tons of grocery bags at home - so keep a few of those for different uses)….change of clothes (in winter: beanie, gloves, scarf, thermal underwear, wool socks, ear muffs, emergency blanket and wool blanket, hot hands, etc)….first aid kit/pharmacy….water in an insulated container because it keeps longer than plastic water bottles….food/snacks/hard candy….deck of cards.
    Great video….thanks for sharing!

As you collect items keep them in the car if that’s what you are prepping so if something happens at least you have something with you
For cars I would add a glass breaker. They are inexpensive but can come in very handy in emergency of car crash. It should come with seatbelt cutter too.

Thanks for making this. We all need more preparedness. You are getting great additions and tips here in comments. I just wanted to mention, in relation to keeping some medical supplies in your high tunnel, that you may want to keep just a couple of the most likely to be useful items rather than a whole kit, as temperatures in a high tunnel will degrade the items far faster than in a temperature controlled home. Amazon has some small empty bags in colors and insignia making them instantly recognizable as med bags, that you can set up with what you might need out there and refill as needed. They also have refill kits(many configurations) of just supplies and medicines because those things expire usually within about 2 years. I know this because I was looking at them yesterday, and adding things to the cart. 😁 I am great at ordering stuff, but less great with organizing it! I am confident we will all get it together, and be much better able to handle what comes along.

I just had a wheel on my rolling backpack repaired in anticipation of preparing a go bag. Disasters are few and far between in my area of the Northeast, but anything is possible. A few years back, I went to Staples to pick up some printer ink. There was barely a cloud in the sky. When I left the store, there were a few snow flurries coming down. By the time I jumped in my car, it had gotten crazy. It took me 6 hours to make a 20 minute trip. The entire city was shut down by ice 🧊 and snow. And we're used to both!
