A nomination for Hereditary perhaps (that year the category was stucked), but not a win. Emma Stone (and some of the other nominees) were better in my opinion.
@@rafaelc.c. Emma Stone was nominated for Supporting Actress that year, so she would not have been a factor against Toni, who clearly was the lead of Hereditary, so that doesn't even matter. That being said I believe that Olivia Coleman is at the same level as Toni always so that would have been a hard decision for me to say one deserved it more than the other.

I love Toni, hearing her natural Australian accent is a little surreal, since I'm used to seeing her play Americans. She's an accent chameleon!
As I hit play I was like, "And this will be the first time I hear her natural speaking voice," which is lovely. And she talked about what a 'dag' is, so that was gravy.

she is not underrated, but definitely under-awarded.

The nominees were Lady Gaga - a star is born, Melissa McCarthy - Can You Forgive Me?, Olivia Coleman - The Favourite, Yalitza Aparicio - Roma, and Glenn Close - The Wife. I’ve never seen the last 2, but out of the first 3, Olivia is the only one that gives Toni a run for her money.

I've never felt the kind of tension hearing a mother yell in a movie (or any fictional material) as I did in that Hereditary scene. Like it literally felt like I regressed, like I was 8 and being yelled at by my mom. Except, well, I never killed anyone even accidentally of course. She ate that entire movie, and that movie is full of performers who ATE EVERYTHING. But anyway, she gobbled it. Absolutely.

Every time I watch that scene, I cry. It's always been a great scene, but it's definitely hit differently since my own mother died three years ago.

She's not underrated though. People praise her talent constantly, she's just not as much of a household name as many other actresses.

She’s absolutely phenomenal in everything she does. She completely embraces these characters in such an honest and vulnerable way. Like how she starts crying for Murial all these years later. It’s incredible to see her perform.

Spoiler (even though Hereditary has been out for years, there still might be some people that haven’t seen it.)
People talk about the dinner scene a lot in Hereditary, but I think her strongest emotional scene was her sobbing hysterically in her bedroom saying she wants to die after she finds her daughters body in the car, while her son is outside in the hallway listening to it. That scene gave me chills, and I don’t get chills much when watching movies.
Oh my gosh yeah. That first scream sent my heart right to the bottom of my stomach it was almost too much. She’s amazing.
Definitely, I always want to cover my ears, that's how real and gripping her wails were. The fact that she's on all fours like she's giving birth - her husband literally having to hold her up. Just devastating.

Murial's Wedding changed my life when I was younger. No one but me knew that movie and it's always been such a big part of my life. Watching and listening to her talk about her role in that movie, finally, was EVERYTHING to me.

Toni Collette is probably the best actor of her generation. I loved her the first time I saw her in The Sixth Sense (which she should have got an Oscar for) and I loved her in Muriel's Wedding, and even now she consistently knocks it out of the park and should have got an Oscar for Hereditary. What an amazing talent
My first experience watching Toni Colette was in United States of Tara and I was floored by how seamlessly she transitioned into her alters. The cast of that show was phenomenal (young Brie Larson, John Corbett, Rosemarie Dewitt, Payton oswalt) and Toni lead them so well.

It was so beautiful to hear her talk about Muriel’s Wedding like this. I would rent that movie over and over again as a kid. It just rips your heart out of your chest then leaves you cheering. Ugh, Toni is such a superstar. I’ll watch anything she makes, she always delivers.
I never realized that was Toni in The Sixth Sense. The first thing that came to my mind was "Ok, so shes been getting robbed for decades now, then? I thiught it was something new.".She was PHENOMENAL in The Sixth Sense. That car scene is so incredibly heart wrenching and yet it still has absolutely nothing on her performance in Hereditary. Literally gave me chills. This woman...talented doesn't even begin to describe it. That she hasn't been given an Oscar should be am actual crime

Toni Collette is underrated as an actress. Seems like she's receiving more roles and honestly we couldn't be any more prouder of her achievements. Hereditary is like a stepping stone for her to get into more mainstream popularity, and it's really getting her places in terms of making it big in the industry.

I’ve loved and followed Toni’s career since watching Muriel’s Wedding as a child. Me and my sisters recorded it on VHS when it played on tv, watching it on repeat, remembering all the lines, and recreating all the scenes together. It was so relatable and impactful on my life!
I’m glad she talked about Muriel’s Wedding, a very early film that put her on my radar and even since I’ve been following her career and she’s never disappointed

I love how she made the comment about accidentally pronouncing "simultaneously" wrong, because a lot of actors wouldn't know the difference or even bother to get it correct.

She is just such a gem and one of the most talented actors in recent memory. Just fabulous in EVERYTHING she does and she just seems like a wonderful human.
i'm not at all shocked that she didn't rehearse, just let herself feel it, and then poured out that absolutely jawdropping scene in hereditary. god, i remember watching that for the first time and being just horrified. the scariest part of hereditary really was the absolutely horrible trauma the family inflicted on itself. peter getting charlie killed and then just letting his mom find the body... annie unleashing that godawful rant at him... ellen turning her whole family into a sacrifice because she thought it was somehow worth it... jfc.
One of the few actors who continues to amaze me every time I watch one of her performances. I'll always remember first seeing her in Shaft (hadn't seen Sixth Sense first) and for such a nondescript film overall it introduced me to Toni Colette, Christian Bale (even though I did see him in Newsies first), and Jeffrey Wright...
She is one of the best actors out there. She always brings so much truth and heart to every role. Also I love her Australian accent. I wish there were more roles that allowed her speak with her natural accent. I had no idea she was Australian until maybe a few years ago because I've only ever heard her with an American accent. Accents are so difficult but she nails it.
That scene in the Sixth Sense always moves me to tears. My mom and I have had our share of issues, but the love is always there.
