Plus, you can control light and darkness. From Billy's (or any other cat's) point of view, it shouldn't be any more difficult to turn off the falling water!
My cat knows I can make the sun appear by lifting up the blinds, so I'm pretty sure he also thinks I'm to blame when there's no sun because it's cloudy. He looks at me and meows as if to say, "Mom, you must be doing something wrong! Can't you lift the blinds up higher and make the sun come out?!"
My beloved first cat used to demand to check the back door when it was raining at the front door, hoping for a different result. She always seemed upset to discover rain was everywhere. Bless her. She lived for 20 years and was still going out every day to patrol the garden in her last months.
Cats, unlike dogs and other animals lack “object permanence.” Hence why they check multiple doors- and check their empty bowl of food multiple times. For example: if I enter the kitchen through the hallway- and there is no food… maybe if I enter through the living room into the same kitchen, there will be food!
Mine too! If they didn't like the weather at one door, they would go to the other door - always expecting a different result. Never worked out for them!
In a tragic way, it kinda makes sense that our pets blame us for the weather. Everything inside the house is under our control. We control feeding time, trips to the vet, outdoor play time, visits to the dog park or walks outside, changing litter boxes, adding or removing furniture, adjusting the temperature inside, treats, and pets. Then, when our pets go outside and the weather isn't perfect, their owners are the first target of, "I don't like this weather. Go change it." And they don't understand that we can't stop rain or snow.
Mine would go to the front door, then to the back door and then back to the front door. There was a little spot out the front door that always stayed dry. He would often spend a few minutes there before wanting back inside.
As much as the buttons helped Billi communicate some of what she was thinking, it's also fair to say that the airplane ears and switching tail also communicated plenty to us.
I tried something like that with my cat and it didn't work well. I needed to get some stuff from my car. I had an umbrella and he followed me part way and then bolted back towards the house.
Not so shure about that... 🤔 He was there, we could see his socks. 😁 Seemed to prefer to stay inside, though - every love has its limits, I guess! 😉 Sharing his scallops for example, as witnessed in a previous video... 🤷🏼♀️
I love when Cats want something, you let them do it and then when it goes wrong somehow unrelated to you they give the disgusted glare like "how could you let this happen?".
Try an old chair with a cheap plastic tablecloth over it. It makes for a simple, but effective 'rain tent' that our cats used to love. Seems to scratch their itch to be outside, while providing a dry place to hang out, even if it's not see-through (they can still smell and hear outside, I guess). Of course since Billi isn't allowed out alone, you'll still be getting wet, but... I can't help with that one.
@@BilliSpeaksThat's an awesome idea, Kendra. I love your spirit. You're a when one door closes, so what... I'll find another way kind of girl. Love that!
@@BilliSpeaks You can buy/obtain the plastic that is sometimes used for the rear window on a convertible car. It is very clear and somewhat think so it stays unwrinkled. @BilliSpeaks Suggest to have it knitted and lightly felted from non-superwash wool. Wool is water repellent and light felting makes it more so-- the elastic structure of knitted fabric moves with the body-- and cats love cuddling with wool, unlike crinkly noisy hot plastic raincoat fabric : ) Any experienced knitter could make one, as plain or as colorfully embellished as Billi would like!
