My goodness ! As a carpenter by trade, but no longer working with my hands. More with my mushy brain ! I am truly humbled by your efforts ! Good for you man ! Your expertise and skills are remarkable ! And you have a great comfortable area to do your magic. Best wishes my friend ! I can’t wait to pick your brain this winter over a campfire !
Appreciate the kind words. I am just a guy doing stuff. I read a lot and learn from that. There are great resources right here in Maine such as Rollin Thurlow and Jerry Stelmok that are legendary in the canoe profession. The shop does provide for a nice work environment, however this canoe takes up most of the space being so large. Appreciate you taking the time to watch. Hoping to provide a great result on this Jalbert family heirloom.
I second meet me outside's notion. I am a carpenter by trade as well. built and installed hardwood staircases for the last 20 years (and did lots of roofs, remodels , framed etc before that) and what you are doing is next level impressive !!! Awesome!
I wish I had your patience for stairwells. That finish work is not easy. Stairs in general are not my strength. I am sure you do great work. I truly enjoy working on canoes in my shop. Allows me to use my hands and brain at the same time. It’s rewarding for me. Thank you for watching and leaving a comment! Appreciate it greatly!
Nice repair work. those planks are in rough shape. Was that just water you brushed on before the iron at the end? I used some quarter sawn stock as planks on my stem and I need to swap it out for flat grain, the quarter sawn stock buckled badly and wouldn't lay flat like the flat grain does, I think thats the problem.

Thanks. Yes I just brushed water on to soak the wood a bit before applying the heat from the iron. Works well.
