This is fantastic. As a fan of mechanical and automatic watches, the accurate specs are super important to sizing. Plus, the Oreo sizing is pure genius. I watch and read dozens of watch reviews, this shortcut hasn't come up. Pure Genius. Also, not surprised to hear from the guy that uses gummy bears as a unit of measurement.

This is not the first time Samsung has been called out for some specifics regarding their wares. Mostly due to their cell phones' processor reporting faster or higher speeds than the somewhat throttling that is actually used in day to day use. Someone of your stature needs to call them out for the misleading information! Awesome video!

Edit : I've been thinking about getting Galaxy watch for some time now, but when I checked out the reviews, pretty much all reviews said the HR tracking was subpar so I've decided to wait a couple of months and see how Galaxy Watch 5 turns out to be. So far, both from your early review and The Quantified Scientist's, it has seen some improvement on that part alone and I'm happy about that. However, I gotta say it's pretty disappointing to see them being lazy about the specification.

Here to say! Having purchased the GW4 right after the GW5 series launched, there is no difference between the display sizes of the GW5 pro and GW4. With the GW5 pro, the display size is substantially the same as that of the GW5 44mm. Everything about the watches' display was precisely the same size. It has been observed that many people purchase the GW5 Pro due to its larger display size without realizing that it may not meet their needs. The size of the GW5 44mm and GW5 pro is the same. Ultimately, the decision is yours to invest in a superior battery or compromise with the GW5 if budget is an issue. The dilemma here is about the budget.

SO glad you put this together... Many of us were talking about this over on Reddit. One watch manufacturer you didn't mention here seems to be doing right by its purchasers and they do properly asterisk their watch measurements. Huawei lists out the mm height measurement for a watch like "12.5mm case thickness" - so in every published listing that I could do they do properly state this is just a case thickness measurement. Samsung needs to get on this and either properly state or change your numbers! Cheers

While I agree with most aspects of this video, I think it would be weird for Samsung to include the weight including the strap since you always choose which strap you get and the watch itself doesn't actually come with a strap, they open the box for the watch and put the strap in it. If there was a standard strap that came with it every time I would understand including it in the weight, but it would only get more confusing if you included it since each type of strap likely has a unique weight. Other than the weight part, I agree with everything.

This is because your measurements include the sensor housing on the rear where the watch manufacturers are only measuring the body/ shell of the watch. It's not a Samsung specific method either.
The weight without the straps is correct as the watches have replaceable straps. Each strap weighs different so this info on the Samsung is correct.
You need to remember that the sensor is designed to protrude from the body to be pushed into the skin. The body should be pushed flat against the skin leaving the correct measurement exposed.

Thanks so much because I love accuracy. This goes to show you ... Consumers are smarter than these companies. I would also like you to look at batteries for samsung. How long to charge, what happens if you use a larger charging brick than recommended, why does it let you use a larger charging brick? (i.e. 1A vs

So when you buy a Samsung watch, you're buying it to wear an Oreo cookie! 😉

the battery will probably only last as long as the Oreo on your wrist also. not long at all!

I think it is just like phone, the thickness on the paper is the thinnest that they can measure. The heart rate sensor is elevated for better skin contact just like many of the sport watches (although I don't have high hope on the accuracy for Samsung watch).

Sam is also asking for separate cost for the band, no matter what, is that usual. I mean with band Active is well above $300!

Heck yeah, science! I love mm and grams and getting into the specs of all the gadgets. I got the super sports band, the one with all the holes, to shave off a few grams of weight when wearing my galaxy watch 5. It makes all the difference in feeling like your not wearing anything vs being comfortable to wear.

Makes sense since the sensor bump usually pushes into the skin

I don't expect alot from Samsung or Apple on this front. But, both Garmin and Polar have to do alot better on this issue. The depth of the device has alot to do with its comfort as something to wear every day.

Can I ask please about the magnetic strap lock - is it steong enough for extreme sports? If I'm planning to go kitesurfing with this watch should I buy an alternative strap?

Are they measuring from the glass face instead the top of the bezel maybe, since the glass is inset?

samsung probably didnt want to put the real measurement because people are already dissapointed by the lack of a rotating bezel.. people will think "at least its not as thick anymore" see it in store and just assume it is the right size because "samsung said so"...

What i don’t understand is why Garmin and many of the others make a bump on the hr sensor ? For example, the new Polar models (Pacer) don’t have a bump, the hr sensor is in the same level with the back of the watch. I don’t see any reason that making a bump will increase the accuracy, except that leaving a track on the wrist.

    • @Dcrainmaker
      @Dcrainmaker  2 года назад +1

To be fair, the accuracy of the ones without the bump in my testing is less. Fitbit, latest Polar, and Wahoo all are less accurate in sports.

I don't think the Pro5 is just the sidewall. The bezel is elevated. My bet. The glass level and the bottom minus the sensor is the measurement. Similarly to the others
