+theCalracer Dear Racer, You are the first one to note this! You cannot believe the effort I have expended to get the best frames I can for this POV style shooting. Most guys just hang a camera on the easiest place they can attach the cam. Generally that results in some weird framing and less than interesting video. I actually hoped to have a 7th cam on this flight but the tail position I had been struggling with all last Summer just didn't pan out for "Mustang". You can see it for a moment at the beginning and at the end. That day there was way, too much engine/prop vibration and I couldn't use it. I have a new idea for a mount back there I will be trying this next season. Blue Skies & Tailwinds!™ The Sky Surfer
The scenery is mesmerizing. The next time I hear someone claim the earth is over-populated, I will send them a link to this video. That should keep them quiet for a little while. The great I AM has blessed you with finding the mustangs you were seeking to capture on video. Thank you for sharing the blessings on youtube. Amazing footage!
Dear Brother Scott, I am gratified by your comments and thank you for recognizing The Source from which we derive all this joy. I am in the editing process of yet another POV through The Flint Hills of Kansas. It will be a series to show this area in the Fall and Summer (maybe the Spring, too). The one I shot in October features a large herd of deer I encountered and then some more of the Mustangs that are kept up in that neck of the plains. Today, though, I am headed to the hangar to do Winter Maintenance. I also decided to make that process a subject of a series of videos. Since you liked "Mustang Valley", you might like "The Harper Run", too. It features a short dissertation regarding "Flyover Country"..I have about 5 of these "POV" movies on my channel that you can locate by using that as a keyword. For artwork and scenery, here is one of my favorites (ruclips.net/video/XVgpcN8THBw/видео.html) called "Look Up!". It was shot at The Salton Sea near San Diego. The Sky Surfer did not fly in that piece. ***** I shared the Lil prop - big trip video on my facebook timeline. Unfortunately, their are really no aviation enthusiast among my friends. I need new friends! Lol. Even the guys from my F/A-18 squadron in the Marines I feel were more enthusiastic about being Marines than they were about aviation. I was ground crew, but I took flying lessons at the Hickam aero club for awhile. I passed the FAA written exam, but couldn't get past the obstacle of radio communication. I was surprised that you didn't have a radio. Maybe I should be considering an ultralight. But the wind in CT is kinda crazy.
Dear Scott, A radio is not necessary. Most airports are "uncontrolled". If you do want to fly into a controlled airport you call on the phone prior and ask permission. If they think it is OK, you set up a method with them. Sometimes they shine a green light at you. If you would like, I would be more than happy to discuss this type of flying on the telephone. Send me an email with your contact data and I'll give you a call. Blue Skies & Tailwinds!™ Surf

+Kenny Johnson Thank you very much, Ken. I got to drive a Sportster back in the early 70's. It was excellent! I am happy that my movies have inspired you to fly. If you take it "one step at a time", you will find "fun flying" hugely rewarding. Please do me a favor and don't do the low level stuff you see me doing until you have a couple of hundred hours flying at 200' to 1,000'+ AGL. Practice engine out landings over a nice long landing field. Get used to the idea that your engine may quit on you at any moment... Learn everything you can about the history, theory and culture of Aviation. Be excellent and you will have great fun! Blue Skies & Tailwinds!™ The Sky Surfer

@@BrianFitzGerald-TheSkySurfer Hey Brine can I ask you a question I’m retired now and in the market to buy me a quick silver two sport from an aviation company right here in Louisiana called air tech from all my homework looks like I’ve made up my mind that’s the plan for me can you tell me a little about that plane is it a good one and a safe one do you know some history on it from what I read I am giving it three thumbs up what do you think?
I was smiling pleasantly a full minute before I realized the music and horses were delighting me so intensely. I was lost in your video, and that doesn't happen very often. Thank you. I might ask, though, if I noticed the passage of your plane under some power lines at about 27:35 on your way back to Ponca City. I noted also that you flew this trip without a helmet, such as i might if given the opportunity. I flew as a helmeted air-crewman in the Navy and tired quickly of the apparatus. I'm also not fond of motorcycle helmets.... I wish the damn government and insurance lobbyists would stay the hell out of my business. Anyway, great video... Too bad you didn't have someone on the ground to take a few shots as in your other vids.... Imagery acquired entirely from the air somewhat limits perspective. The Freytag explanation was delightful. Also, I couldn't help but appreciate the vastness of the open prairie; anyone who says this world is overpopulated must have their head in a city sewer.
+Piers Bridges Dear Piers, Yeah, every once in a while I decide to fly under a line if there is no fence under it. There is a lot of clearance. I used to always fly with a helmet (note: "Lil Prop") but one day I thought I'd try some goggles and ear muffs and never went back (unless it is really cold). I found these goggles called Sorz on a skydiving site and really like them. Because there is no center ridge in them, I have the impression of not wearing eye covering at all. Also, with ear muffs, I get much better noise reduction with them than I did with my helmet alone. Re: camera perspectives. Yes, it would be great to have some passing shots to edit into the POV movies but it increases the complexity of the process enormously. Also, since these flights are serendipitous, I would have to "nail down" a track and have different cameramen stationed all along the course. It would be a much different approach for sure. As to the open prairie and population, etc.... About a decade ago it was popular among the Coastal Elites to disparagingly refer to areas such as Kansas and Oklahoma as "Flyover Country". I realized what a God Send this conceit was for us out here on The Plains. This distain they have for our beautiful landscape and moral sensibilities keeps snobs who would think that way from moving here, all the while believing living in a crowded city (head in a sewer) superior. Excellent! That's a Win-Win! Blue Skies & Tailwinds!™ Brian - The Sky Surfer
+Brian FitzGerald I read your response over and over with increasing measures of respect and admiration each time - you really seem to be a nice person. When I was a kid in the 60s, I dreamed of airplane camping; stopping serendipitously (to borrow your word) at uncontrolled airports or cow pastures along the way to relax overnight under the stars. I bought an airplane in Oklahoma city once and flew it to Nome Alaska; that trip took 8 days, but it was February and just too cold for camping. I once took a girl flying on a lunch date to eat fried chicken under the wing at some distant airport. We watched the grass strip traffic and spoke with numerous home-built airplane owners. I've had occasion, believe it or not, to snuggle romantically under a tied down wing at my favorite rural airport - what a gal. If I was still in the mid west Id volunteer to assist your video efforts and land along the way to shoot footage of you in the air; I've alighted upon a number of unlikely makeshift runways (roads, abandoned fields, driveways, etc); each time the excitement pumped adrenaline through my veins like it was flowing over Niagara falls. Anyway, keep up the great work. I don't know your age, but I pray you have an endless number of days remaining to delight us with your art.
Dear Piers, I am enormously gratified by your observations and comments. I am a bit behind on my production efforts this year because I have been fortunate to have built a new 50' x 50' hangar next to which my Wife and I will be building a house. It is adjacent a 1300' grass runway. The attendant details for getting it ready have even put me behind on finishing the annual for my Ultralight. I hope to have that finished today. Thanks again for your correspondence and be looking for a piece I will be uploading over the next few weeks on Classic/Vintage Airplanes. Blue Skies & Tailwinds!™ Brian - The Sky Surfer
Good show with the new hanger and upcoming new home.... Is your wife a carpenter? Too bad shes not an AF and PP inspector as well.... Just kidding. I suppose it might not be a good Idea to give you my actual email address here, so Ive included a throw away one so that, If you don't mind, I can get an address from you where I might send further private correspondence. I would like to keep in touch with you and perhaps participate in your productions with ideas or insight thrown in from another source.... not that your work needs improvements - I could never do any better. What you do is just 'plane' cool, and It might be fun to talk about things. Anyway, if you wish, here is a temporary throwaway address: abapoes@gmail.com I look forward to hearing from you and seeing your upcoming work.
..Place of the Three Trees... Really? .. Hilarious! You had me believing.. (: Brian, is there anyone teaching the sport of ultralight flying here in the OKC Metro?

Have you found someone to repack the chute and replace the explosive charge?Yes, that is an Aventura single seat UL. I no longer have it. I had landed it on water a couple of times with the gear down (DON'T DO THIS!) and once on grass with the gear up (NOR THIS). Figured I oughta sell it while the plane and I were still in one piece. The plane was undamaged until the guy I sold it to ran it out of gas and crashed it in a pond. He walked away but the plane was totaled. Fly safe.
+ulpilotrmh A couple of years back BRS said they would do repacks on 2nd Chantz chutes. I have not done it, though and am not sure if their offer is still open. I always liked the Adventura design and concept. Do you live in Florida?
+Brian FitzGerald We moved to Florida in 2001, I flew my Challenger single seater to central FL from Southern Michigan in 2002. Built the Aventura UL in 2003, I think. The Avatar is the UL anchored in front of a local Tiki Bar restaurant near our home.
Dear Tabasco, Mostly I burn Premium Car Gas with Havoline 2 Stroke Oil. Occasionally I use AV GAS and there were times I used Regular Car Gas. I don't detect any difference. I think the primary issue is to maintain a proper 50:1 gas/oil ratio and don't let water get in the tank! Blue Skies & Tailwinds!™ Brian FitzGerald - The Sky Surfer

+theCalracer
Dear Racer,
You are the first one to note this!

Dear Brother Scott,
I am gratified by your comments and thank you for recognizing The Source from which we derive all this joy.
But, he did fly in this 23 minute music video called "Lil Prop - Big Trip" that you also might like:

Dear Scott,
A radio is not necessary.

Really good stuff Brian. I see you're still flying with the Second Chantz.
+ulpilotrmh
Thanks and Good Eyes! Yes, I bought that from AeroStar many years ago. It is designed for a two seater but they made me a deal on it.
Is that an Adventura you are flying?
Met you at the fly in today. Really enjoying the videos and will look forward to more!
Hey, great movie and music
Love your low flying well thought out and detailed videos my friend. Got me wanting a ultralight.... I start hang gliding training in May at Lookout Mountain. I may try to trade my old '73 Harley Sportster xlch 1000 for one of these puppies...... Kolb firestar would be nice too
+Kenny Johnson
Thank you very much, Ken.

Excellent presentation.

Super cool . 🐎I wonder if I could get one of those horses for free🐴
Actually I think they have auctions on occasion. It is part of a federal program. You can learn more about it here:

Very nice!
Oh God , sometimes I forgot to pay attention on the day your video been Published . ha ha and it's been already Jan 31, 2016 .that means 2 years ago.But I'll follow from now on.
Really nice one!
What is that box under the right stab?

That is the electronics for the strobe on top of the rudder. It and the old strobe is gone as of last week. It was not working well so I replaced it with a new self-contained strobe at the top of the rudder.
I'm glad you liked "Mustang". I put a lot of time into it. Please let your buddies know about it, too!

I have six other movies like that and am editing another one. You can find them here:

+Piers Bridges
Dear Piers,
Yeah, every once in a while I decide to fly under a line if there is no fence under it.

I read your response over and over with increasing measures of respect and admiration each time - you really seem to be a nice person.
Dear Piers,
I am enormously gratified by your observations and comments.

Anyway, if you wish, here is a temporary throwaway address: abapoes@gmail.com
I look forward to hearing from you and seeing your upcoming work.
Best ride I've had in a long time, except I didn't get enjoy picking the bugs out of my teeth after the flight.
Awesome 😎
Thanks 🤗
..Place of the Three Trees... Really? .. Hilarious! You had me believing.. (:
Brian,
is there anyone teaching the sport of ultralight flying here in the OKC Metro?
Sorry, I just saw this or I would have responded earlier.
I don't know about teaching but you might look up Don De Witt in OKC. He has posted a couple of stories on Sky Surfing - The Flite Blog™. He lives in the OKC area. Just northeast of Tulsa is Owasso. They have a flying club there. They might be able to help you.

Fly safe.
+ulpilotrmh
A couple of years back BRS said they would do repacks on 2nd Chantz chutes.
The Avatar is the UL anchored in front of a local Tiki Bar restaurant near our home.
are you burning 100 low lead mixed with 2 stroke oil?
Dear Tabasco,
Mostly I burn Premium Car Gas with Havoline 2 Stroke Oil. Occasionally I use AV GAS and there were times I used Regular Car Gas. I don't detect any difference. I think the primary issue is to maintain a proper 50:1 gas/oil ratio and don't let water get in the tank!

What are you going to do now spend the night out there on the Prairie?
Good question. You are the first to notice that I didn't end this movie at my home base. Actually, I did return home a while after this landing. Between you and me... I had to take a leak!
Did you stop for gas how long can you fly on one tank
+hawk1481
Dear Hawk,
I decided to get more gas.

Tell me please Brian, how long can you fly with one fuel tank?
Dear Bau,
I can go about 2 hours and 15 minutes maximum in calm air.

Why is there no young stock with the Mustangs? Is there some form of birth control?
From what I can determine, most of these horses are castaways and I think they sterilize them.
These horses are feral. They are coyote food as far as I am concerned.
Would that were the case. I call them "free range horses" because they are not "wild". They are fed and protected by ranchers under contract to the Bureau of Land Management. Check it out:
