  • I love repotting my succulents regularly and think it's an important part of succulent maintenance. But the truth is you don't have to repot that often. Many succulents will tolerate being in the same pot for years. It does, however, come at a cost.
Succulents will use up the nutrients in the potting mix within the first couple of years and will then slow down growing, unless you provide them with fertilizer.
Many will cease to grow altogether, dropping a few leaves and thickening their stems. They can still look very pretty and can last for decades.
What it comes down to is what you want from your plants. If you want little to no maintenance and don't mind the lack of growth, not repotting is an option. But if you want your succulents to grow every season, repotting may be needed.
