  • I saved up my quarters for a long time to make some patterned billets of mokume gane! I try some new techniques for forge welding nickel and copper.

Neat video. Very entertaining to watch you work whilst you explain what's going on.

Nice work, I have found the method that works for me is to clean and stack the quarters, then wrap them tight in masking tape so I can then wrap them tightly with kanthal wire and keep the stack straight. I am able to pretty much get a successful billet everytime as long as I don't go over a 20 quarter stack at once, I put a video up on my process... Now I am trying to forge a cu mai billet, almost there but it's a bit trickir. Learning mokume gane from quarters definitely helped me though

dimes work just as well, and its way way cheaper 😉 i drill small holes in my coins and use copper wire or just remove the wire when shortly after getting them up to temp. i like your method better but i dont have good foil.
the secret to get mokame forge welded easily is just to just pickle the coins before you throw them in. ez and youll never have a cold shut again

If you look, dimes and quarters are the same price by weight.

Hey I saw your etsy listing for the different seax', and I was wondering if there were any major differences between the metals you use, 5160, 80CRV2, W2, CPM3V. They look beautiful btw, was thinking about placing an order maybe in the coming week.

All 4 of those are really tough steels, they all have great edge holding but CPM 3V holds an edge the longest of the 4. W2 is the steel I use to do awesome Hamons!
