The biggest issue I have is not understanding the situation. Cal should know that they are down by one. They only need a base hit, that's it. Don't need a grand slam. Just hit a liner, if thr infield catches it, bad luck and I could live with that. But to fly out, that's just bad situational hitting. Need ot figure out how to adjust to starting pitching and better situational hitting.
I'm really wanting big changes this deadline. Garver, France, Polanco, Bastardo to LAD for Yohan Ramirez and Peter Heubeck. Ford, Arroyo, Clase, Morales, Mcgraw to LAA for Rengifo, O'hoppe, Soriano Farmelo, Locklear, Smith for Greene, Urshela, Vest That would overhaul the lineup in a huge way, for the better. C- Raleigh/O'hoppe 1b- Raley/Urshela 2B- Bliss/Rojas/Moore SS- JP 3B- Rojas/Rengifo OF- Julio/Greene/Canzone/Raley/Haniger DH- Haniger That would be an incredible change in our 13 position players with lots of contact oriented players added. Yes we sacrifice some power, but we can win games our style, chaos ball. We get a few bullpen arms in Ramirez and Vest and a swingman/spot starter in Soriano. All the massive problems are fixed in 3 trades. The Dodgers have shown a trend in betting that they can fix hitters, and they usually do. They could probably get two of those three right.
Fully agree on bringing Locklear up and playing Bliss until trades are made. They may not be much better, but at this point, you need to shake things up and send a message. Change must come.
We can criticise some of the calls Scott Servais makes, but he never would've intentionally walked a player like Canzone in the bottom of the eighth with two outs in a tie game. That was a certified clown moment for John Schneider, he's so lucky that didn't come back to bite him. otherwise: _pain_

This may sound crazy but I think we already got the answer for second base: Luis Urias. Urias is better defensively at 2nd than at 3rd and I think his bat will improve dramatically if he is hitting much more often than he would be able to on a platoon. I won't say he has been crushing it at Tacoma, the power still isn't there but he is hitting .260 and walking more than striking out. He also has 28 RBI with a .771 OPS and six stolen bags. Either send Polanco down or DFA him because he just isn't working and hasn't all year. Now sure Urias might not work either but I would rather give Urias another chance Also Urias and France used to be team mates on the Padres so I think maybe that could help stir up some competitive fire in them Especially when they play their old team the Padres next.
Major League Baseball is arguably the MOST frustrating professional sports league known to mankind. Especially as a Mariners diehard - with the emphasis on DIE HARD. Season after season we encounter SO much drama 🎭 … ie “hard luck”. I have virtually resigned myself to mere scoreboard watching because following each game on MLB@BAT isn’t worth the $25 per month up charge. Just hope we find our groove again after the All-Star break because right now we’re the weakest first place team in MLB.
I highly doubt the Astros would’ve lost this game, but the Mariners are a first place team and you can’t be playing like roadkill at this point in the season. I’m not gonna hear any of it. Get Polanco and Haniger off the major league roster or at the very least send them down to AAA, move JP down and let Josh hit leadoff, gut this entire offensive coaching staff at this point because it’s beyond insane that basically every single player is having career-worst years at the plate. I agree that there were runs left on the board…the pitching hasn’t been much help either. In the last 8 games, we have given up 4+ runs in 5 of those games. We aren’t losing 1-0 or 2-1 that often. We continuously have to climb back from behind because our pitching has been giving up too many runs.
