Yeah, never got why some ppl felt intelligent for insisting on traditional definitions while then ignoring that their preferred definition isn’t the actual traditional definition. Romero zombies were initially called Ghouls. And the act of our culture accepting the Romero zombie as being a valid zombie is the very same thing Romero fans are crying about when it comes to 28 days later.

a lot false Romero fans say that the infected of the 28 [TIME FRAME] trilogy are not zombies, and they often forget that the zombies in George A. Romero's films are also NOT zombies
he intentionally avoided rhe word zombie. They were ghouls
George A. Romero is the father of the modern zombie genre by not doing a single zombie movie
also also, I love the voodoo zombies more than the cannibal corpse zombies

    • @SCH292
      @SCH292 Месяц назад +1

All those "zombie" movies before Romero's Light of the Living Dead "the zombies" were all about magic and witchcraft. Romero and his Night of the Living Dead movie made a huge changing impact on the "zombie movie industry". Resident Evil games came in and changed the zombie genre by making up "mutant" zombie class or so. 28 DAYS has also made a huge impact by having "running infected". The Walking Dead had also made a huge impact by bringing up the,"gun noise attract them".
Most zombie video game these days will have running zombie variant/type, mutant and gun noise attract more zombies into your area.

It is a plain matter of fact that they (and the people in films like Rabid, Crazies, Record, and Quarantine) are NOT undead, but you see them being referred to as such when that is evidently not the case. There is nothing debatable about what is undead and what is not.
Some refer to the infected in these films as introducing the "Fast moving zombie", even though that had already been done, and some of those same people conveniently omit the fact dehydration and starvation kills them like it does anyone else. And the fact unlike most zombies they don;t eat their victims.
You can call them zombies, but don;t call them undead or cannibals, because that is demonstrably untrue. Being a violent mob is about what they have in common.

    My definition.
    1. Zombies are a living or dead person or animal with a condition.
    2. This condition causes increased aggression.
    3. The condition is spread due to aggression.
    4. Full zombies lack the free will to resist the aggressive urges.
    5. They cannot decide not to be zombies or spontaneously cure themselves.
    6. The original body of the person or animal still exists.
    So, let's see:
    Real cordyceps-infected insect:
    1. Have a condition✅
    2. Condition causes aggression❌
    3. Condition spreads from aggression❌
    4. Cannot resist urges❌ (urges are natural intentional responses to any fungal disease)
    5. Cannot cure themselves ❌ (some Cordyceps-infected bugs successfully kill the fungus).
    6. Body still exists. ✅
Zombie ants are just ants with a contagious disease doing normal ant things. Not zombies.
    Rabies-infected mammal:
    1. Have a condition✅
    2. Condition causes aggression✅ (sometimes)
    3. Condition spreads from aggression✅
    4. Cannot resist urges✅ (by reason of insanity)
    5. Cannot cure themselves ✅
    6. Body still exists. ✅
Most rabid mammals are zombies. Though plenty of them are more the mindless type of zombie that isn't aggressive. Furious rabies is exactly like zombies.
    Rabies-infected human:
    1. Have a condition✅
    2. Condition causes aggression✅ (sometimes)
    3. Condition spreads from aggression❌
    4. Cannot resist urges✅ (by reason of insanity)
    5. Cannot cure themselves ✅
    6. Body still exists. ✅
Rabid humans don't have any strong tendency to bite. They use the same mechanisms of violence other humans use. Rabies is not optimized for human to human transmission because aggressive humans don't usually bite.
    Mandating animals:
    1. Have a condition❓
    2. Condition causes aggression✅ (I guess they need to eat)
    3. Condition spreads from aggression❓
    4. Cannot resist urges❓ (they have to eat something but they could be convinced about whether to eat you)
    5. Cannot cure themselves ✅
    6. Body still exists. ❌ (The whole point is they digest the nutrients of what they kill and make more predators)
    Predatory animals are not zombies.
    Ideological extremists
    1. Have a condition✅
    2. Condition causes aggression✅
    3. Condition spreads from aggression❓ (not always to the person they attack. Hard to beat the right belief into someone)
    4. Cannot resist urges❌
    5. Cannot cure themselves ❌
    6. Body still exists. ✅
    Ideological fanatics are not zombies.

Zombie is a metonymy for the creature, which itself is a mish mash of ideas and concepts from mythology and fictional works put in a blender. It can be unarguably a zombie (Romero's ghouls and 28 Time Later), or have zombie elements (another person asked about pure titans from AoT which imo have elements of zombies, but also the movie I am Legend), or just have a zombie-esque vibe (I would say necromorphs but to me they are just space cosmic horror zombies).
TL;DR: If moans like a zombie, moves like a zombie, and smells like a zombie (all metaphorically) IT IS a zombie.

Only recently began thinking about this since the 28 Years Later trailer dropped and saw people making those points in old Reddit posts. Always considered the infected in media like 28 Days Later, The Last of Us, and even World War Z were zombies, just with slightly different lore between them. To me I do personally have a soft spot for the undead type zombies that's insatiably hungry, but if you show me an infected where the host doesn't die before turning, and it's not explicitly stated to be a vampire or something, I'll just see a zombie. It's just silly to call them anything else when the act basically the same way.

  • @Johnny-Wilde-Productions
    @Johnny-Wilde-Productions Месяц назад +1

Yeah, I've never been a fan of labelling the undead as zombies due to the origins of the word.
Zombie has become the default and accepted term for them, some media don't refer to the undead as zombies and choose other names like walkers, biters or infected.
The undead rising is a fear many of us have and I am sure appears in ancient Greek literature (both fiction and non-fiction) so they must have a name that we've just forgotten.
vrykolakas pronounced [vriˈkolakas]) was what the Greeks called them. I assume that why a new name was needed, which I think became ghouls, then zombie.
Shame, there is a chance to create a name for these undead things.

So are the pure titans (Attack on Titan) also zombies then? Because being a mindless eating machine is a very vague definition. The “Romero fans” are partially right on this one. A zombie is a reanimated corpse but that’s it. That’s the only difference.
This is basically the same as crocodile vs alligator. They’re different but do the same thing.

Aside from The Mother and Crane (I haven't played the 2nd), Volatiles have no primitive hierarchy and have lost all of their individuality, regressing to a primitive / mindless killing machine.
