Cheers mate. Yeah different to get in there in flood but the falls are best in those conditions. One chap told me he fell into that lower pool when descending. It was more than six foot deep! Thanks for the sub. Atb

It’s a tough nut to crack. I’d love to get up there in the ice and snow. Of course in a drought it would be easier (remember those🤣) but the waterfall as you can see is best in flood! Thanks for watching. Looking forward to your next. Atb

Need to get up there UP, maybe involving a camp. AW painted a lovely picture of the place in his Howgills book too. Your fungi was a dusky puffball and the flower was devil's-bit scabious. Very nice! 😎

You didn't actually show how you got into the canyon where Uldale Force is? Did you drop down to the little waterfall in front of the main fall and somehow negotiate up the side of it?
I did it many years ago (May 2008) and there wasn't much water in the river. I parked at Rawthey Bridge, and headed south on the path marked on the O.S. Maps then turned east across Bluecaster, and followed the path across the moor parallel with the right hand side of the river all the way to the little bridge, then continued up the river next to it on the same side. It did leave the river at one point and climbed up high above it then dropped down to the foot of the little fall below the main Uldale Force. Can't quite remember how I got above that little fall as it looks impossible with the steep sides but I did, i had all my walking gear on, rucksack, camera and tripod i think. I got a few pics of the main fall but it was into the light and there wasn't much water in. Coming back, I returned the same way but on the opposite side, i had to negotiate my way down below the smaller fall.....before i knew it i was in the water up to my neck! That water below the little fall was at least 6 foot deep. I didn't panic but swam to the side and pulled myself out. I walked down river, found a flat patch of grass, took my boots off and poured all the water out. Took my trousers off and reached into my rucksack for my waterproof leggings, they were the only thing i had on me that was dry. My camera and mobile phone were kaput and i still had to walk back to the car. It was windy and by the time i got back to the car i was dry. When i got home, everything went in the airing cupboard to dry but the camera and phone were destroyed. Still managed to pull the SD card from the camera and see all my pictures though! I have unfinished business there, but it gives me nightmares thinking about it!
There was an episode of countryfile many years ago where Matt Baker was swimming in the pool below the main fall but it never showed you how he got there!

Yes mate it was deliberate that I didn’t show how I got in. I used some climbing equipment but I didn’t want to encourage inexperienced people to do the same. Also it’s a remote place and it would be nice to keep it that way. If you’re desperate enough you’ll find a way. Your story illustrates my reasoning.

I really do appreciate your taking the time to tell me your story. It makes me feel better that I took 4 attempts to get in there.

It’s defo not for the faint hearted getting into that place in those conditions. If anything happened you’d be there for days. I’ve never seen another soul up there. I have satellite gps, so even up there I’m trackable and can send and receive messages. I’ve been trying for months to get in there. Atb mate
