😊
😊
Subbed 😊
Nice to have you.
beautiful natural views along the journey that you pass through very cold snow
It’s not on as large a scale as Norway and the Alps, but our Lake District is as you say beautiful and there’s something new around every corner. Thanks for watching.
What clear air! And busy lungs! You picked a fine day to get out for a stomp. Good to see you making the most of it 😊 James.
You should come up north. We are an hour from the Howgills and we have a spare bedroom. Look after yourself.
Lovely up there, yeah we still have a lot of snow here in Richmond, looks nice but it's not great for walking!
Loved it but it was tough going. Thanks for watching. Atb
Looks fantastic Pete. Stunning views, but hard work in the deep snow. Great stuff. Cheers. Eddie.
Enjoyed my day out. Better than being a couch potato. Atb mate
Looks chilly but beautiful
Neighbour’s dog. I’ve trained her to stop barking when guests visit 🤣
Is it possible to pitch outer first, then deploying inner, easing groundsheet under pole?
You can easily pitch outer first on T1 or T2. You can hold the outer up with your head, spread the groundsheet at the side you place the inner, put the inner in place the place the pole or carbon vertex one for that tent. They have changed the attachment of the inner to the outer since I made the video. Trust me it is an easy tent to pitch. You could also easily put the inner in, the shuffle the groundsheet under in go outside and pull it taught. You’ll figure out a method. I’ve just thought. Put the groundsheet down first, pitch the outer, then put the inner in. If raining obviously pitch outer first. Hope this helps. Atb
Great day to be out, especially with a Spanny...3 years since we lost our Springer, still think of him everyday
And that you still think about your Springer says a lot about you mate and about him. Atb
A nice hike 🙂
Thanks for watching. I am working through your stuff. I used to work in photography in Los Angles. You put a lot more time into your videos than I do. Northern England is not on the large scale as Norway but there’s a wonder around every corner. Atb
I'm jealous, I'm stuck at home with a bit of plantar fasciitis 😟It looked great up there, Susie looked like she was having fun 😃
Yeah Susie loved it. She’s not my dog. I’m training her (successfully). Hope your foot gets better soon. Atb mate.
@@unclepeteswildadventures Me too! 😄
Happy new year 🎉
Seen it a lot higher over the years
It came up higher for an hour and a half. But yeah I’ve seen it higher.
That's a lot of water 😯 Happy new year, Pete ☺️
Cheers mate. You too
Nice one mate, never done that route but will now. Just subscribed from a fellow RUclipsr 😉👍
Cheers. I wished I had taken my Elan hooped bivy. It would have pitched in 5 mins. Defo a place to return to. Howgills would look good with decent visibility. Thanks for the sub. Atb
Stunning photos! Looking forward to seeing what you get up to next year 😄
Some amazing photos. Enjoyed watching 🥰
Ha! Despite. The captions on couple of shots All the photos are of 2024. 🙄😊
Not a bad looking year Pete....keep the walks/Camps coming next year....cheers mate
Nice video 🙂👍
I could have pitched but there was no good sunset or sunrise. The view from there is exceptional on a clear day. Definitely going back. Thanks for watching. Atb
Nice remote area...shame it was a bit too windy, maybe another time.
Yeah Steven, I had the kit but there was no sunset or sunrise likely. Much higher winds than forecast. As I say I’d love to pitch on Greyrigg pike, awesome pitch that. Wish I’d taken my hooped bivi that would have pitched in the wind easily. In 5 mins. Still great to be outdoors. I watch all your stuff as you know. Atb
Where
Cumbria (mentioned in the title)is a county in the North of England. The fort is just south of Tebay, a small town. It’s about two hours drive north from Manchester.
Here’s the latitude and longitude East: 360957 North: 501261
Thank you for posting. Enjoyed this video. I am a pensioner and did my last Munro in 1996 and have walked extensively in the Pennines, Lakes and Ireland. However, I have never been to the Howgills. The range seems to be unique, not quite the Pennines, neither quite like the Lakes,. They are the ham sandwiched between them.
The Howgills are fantastic and mostly uncrowded. Generally there are benign but do have some ‘teeth’ in places. Such as Black force and Cautley crags. My mum was born in Sedbergh and my dad grew up in Appleby, a bit further north. The Howgills are Silurian sedimentary rocks and most of the Lakes is igneous/volcanic hence the very different characteristics. Thanks for watching. Plenty of other videos for you to enjoy in and around the area. I do love the Westmorland dales and north Pennines especially. Atb
stunning waterfall great views 👍new friend here
Cheers mate. Yeah different to get in there in flood but the falls are best in those conditions. One chap told me he fell into that lower pool when descending. It was more than six foot deep! Thanks for the sub. Atb
What a treat. Used to holiday at a farm at Little Asby back in the 1980s. Recall sitting on the limestone pavement with my, then young, son and his dog. No one else for miles.
That’s nice. It’s a lovely area. My dad grew up in Appleby and my mum was born in Sedbergh. Thanks for watching. Take a look at my other videos. Many are in the Howgills and Dales. Atb
Beautiful views. Breeze sounds chilly
Enjoyed it. About 15 miles north of Sedbergh. Appleby was where my dad went to school. A storm came in the day after. Atb
Nice 🙂👍
Thank you! Cheers!
@unclepeteswildadventures 🙂👍
Great that UP. The map of the route was very handy. Might have to have a camp up there next year. 👍
Spoiled for choice re pitches. As I mentioned there are two SSI areas to be aware of. But, great views, geology, flora and fauna. Good parking and Appleby bakery and Howgill’s deli on main street Appleby. Atb mate.
Hi Pete. Great video, that was really interesting and the views were incredible. 🙂
Cheers mate.
Cool...the Howgills are looking beautifully sleek.what a great landscape....thanks for showing us the old settlement, never knew it was there....cheers Pete.
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video and channel. Subbed 👍🙂
Very nice video!
It’s a beautiful area. Had it all to myself! Thanks for watching and commenting. Atb
@unclepeteswildadventures Looks so. Subbed to your channel. Cheers from Norway 🙂👍
Some of the best walking in England and best of all, there is nobody there! Cheers.
Love it up there. My ambition is to finally get in to Black Force and not come out on a stretcher 🤣Thanks for watching. Atb
Great video Pete. It’s a spectacular place isn’t it.
Certainly is mate. I hand realised the was such a prominent Syncline in the gorge. There’s another huge fold in the spout above Black Force. My plan is to get up there and not exit on a stretcher 🤣
Sure is a grunt up there mate..remember it well...some grand/steep fells around those parts.
Looks terrible from a distance but it’s a really good solid path. Wouldn’t like to do it with heavy pack Steven. Thanks for watching 👍
I can't believe you hadn't walked up the path before. Cracking video as per usual. You picked a good day.
I know. Been to the top and the bottom but never up it😵Atb
Hi Pete, it's fabulous up there- I haven't been to Cautley Spout but it's on my list! Great video as always 😄
Cheers mate. It’s a great way up. It’s a really well built path. You wouldn’t think I used to rock climb judging by my fussing 😂. There’s quite a few dales 30s up there. Atb
@@unclepeteswildadventures Yeah, I know- they're the ones on my list!☺
Stunning ❤
Often head up there when the weather’s bad. If there’s been heavy rain, the falls are excellent. Good car park with a cafe too. Thanks for watching.
👍🏻👍🏻
This was a slog, Pete! Gorgeous weather though. It's great to see someone showing off the Howgills ❤
One day I’ll get into Black force. I find traversing with a big drop too scary. As you know in the Howgills there are some very steep convex slopes. You can see by the soil creep in this vid. There is a way in to the left of The Spout which is very steep and you have to avoid coming over the precipice at The Spout. Chris JB made it down. (Highly recommend his channel.) A red flag though is when people don’t manage to film it well, there’s usually a reason. It is very sketchy. Check out my Uldale force vid. Lovely to have you back.
Amazing views
THANKS
I was there the day before (opposite side) and it was frightening to see how many 'adults' took their small kids so close to the water!
Yeah it’s easy to slip on wet limestone and there’s not chance of a rescue in those powerful waters. Speaking of which take a look at my storm Debbie video at Srainforth force. A white water rescue chap called it death on a stick! Thanks for watching and commenting. Atb
I live in Lancashire and have never heard of that.😮
If you go on a windy but fine day the sounds are amazing. Thanks for watching. Atb
I have the Alpkit Kloke and use it inside my tent Munro bagging with my Aegis Max lightweight down bag I like the Kloke it means I can use the Aegis Max throughout the year. I am planning Bike touring Spain and Portugal so away from the coast campsites few and far between. A hooped bivvy is what I need and this looks perfect for meandering about Spain and Portugal not having to worry about finding a place to set up a tent.
After a few consecutive bivi camps I did a tent camp and felt claustrophobic in the tent. I love the fact that you can look out at the stars without getting out of your sleeping bag. You can find cheap Elans on eBay. Some people feel claustrophobic but I feel Nicky cosy. The zips snag on the weatherproof flange but it’s easy to sort with technique as I explain on my Wild boar elan video. Thanks for watching
Ps the side zipper makes entry and exit much easier.
I'm a big fan of the SRT. I love the noise it makes as the wind travels though the pipes. I also like the views to Stoodley Pike, Lad Law and Pendle. In fact, I've not been over for a year or two. I might nip over again soon. ATB, Chris
