Update: someone did call me back this morning, but guess what? They can't give me a referral over the phone😆I had to make an appointment to see a doctor in person. The soonest I could see a non-MD (for insurance purposes) is the 18th, so I guess I'll go in and get a referral then...and hopefully get an ultrasound before 2025!
They say people in countries with national healthcare have to wait for treatment. Well, I have private insurance in the USA...and I have to wait, too!

      A+ Dr Emil Schaffhausen
Fun Fact: Kaiser-Permanente has the lowest rate of claim denials at somewhere around 7%. The industry average is around 16%. United healthcare has the highest rate of claim denials at around 32%, double the industry average and over four times the lowest company's denial rate.
Also, healthcare insurers are required to use 85% of their income to pay claims. United Healthcare - and probably others - are able to skirt this requirement by owning the pharmacy they use to fill prescriptions and owning companies that help hospital administration. So they end up paying themselves.
More Fun Facts: Until 1973 it was illegal to profit from healthcare. Enter Richard Nixon - a Republican - whose friend and campaign financier, Edgar Kaiser was president and chairman of Kaiser-Permanente. Nixon signed into law the Health Maintenance Organization Act of 1973 that allowed hospital, clinics, health insurance companies and even doctors to begin functioning as for-profit businesses. And so it began.

@Wonderhussy That's why I went to the ER. Same reason. I couldn't wait 2 months to see a specialist. Good thing I did. My case is severe, almost life threatening. Since Nov 19th, I've been under hospital care and will be through Dec 31. Can not leave the house, can not go to work. Since it's happening during the holiday season kinda takes my heart disheartening. I even missed my vacation to Vegas in which I was to be there Dec 6 - 10. I wanted to get away from my hometown just for a little bit!

Greed is a deadly sin, but Envy and Sloth are deadly, too. Group Health/Kaiser has been the most similar to "Canadian Healthcare," and "one call" does it all for me. Many people trash "vertically integrated HMOs" because they want it both ways - an ability to pick anything for cheap. You're right, but for incomplete reasons, IMO. Doctors in places like the UK make US teacher salaries.

    • @victoriabaker4400
      @victoriabaker4400 12 дней назад

@NoProbaloAmigo Not even true, and an outright lie about doctor's salaries. My father has had Kaiser for many decades and they have not been kind. Healthcare should not be a for profit sector, and for sure the insurance company middlemen who do nothing but seek ways to allow pencil-pushers to deny care to sick people are parasites and are absolutely not required. The US is number 1 in the world in medical costs paid, and number 42 in good health outcomes. It doesn't have to be this way.

This hits way to close to home. My wife of 32 years passed this July from breast cancer that metastasized into a brain tumor. Throughout the journey she dealt with numerous idiots in the health care system. The left hand never knew what the right hand was doing. Emergency ambulances were always denied by the insurance, and that is with supposedly good insurance provided by an employer. I found your channel while searching RUclips for anything that would take my mind off my grief. You have provided me with some of the only enjoyment I have had over the past six months, and I thank you so much for that. I am so sorry you are going through this. Health care in this country is broken, just like I am without my best friend and soulmate.

Recently retired from healthcare after 4 decades and I totally get and have experienced your frustration. I saw many Las Vegas area patients in my specialty oncology clinic in California because Las Vegas and the state of Nevada doesn't have enough experienced specialists in many areas of medicine in spite of their best recruiting tactics. Two dear friends now have to come to Southern California for their urgent auto immune and cancer treatments (after months of cutting through insurance red tape) after discovering the doctor's in Vegas literally told them they could not treat their conditions. Hoping nothing this serious is wrong with Sarah. But thing you must be these days, is your own best health advocate.

Long-time subscriber, though I rarely comment. As an American I totally get it: impossibly frustrating and it's so easy to feel defeated by our horrible for-profit "health"care scammy system. Like you, schadenfreude was the first thing I felt when I read about "The Claims Adjuster." The fact that the latest mammogram came back normal is a very good sign. The fact that the soreness has largely abated is another good sign. If you can pay the $150 for urgent care, PAY IT -- anything to move this along and lower your level of anxiety. Take a deep breath, be kind to yourself. All your fans are in your corner.

Family doctors and doctors you see yearly, only will see patients for a scheduled, non-ill or non-emergency scheduled 6 months to a year out appointment. Urgent care and emergency rooms are now the family doctor. They will temporarily make you comfortable, attempt to find the problem and find the specialist for your health issue through the insurance company. So so sorry for you and your situation. Welcome to the new "insurance care" . Once the "new" protocol is understood.....continue to follow it. The doctors are very very upset that they continue to fight insurance for the decisions they make afters years and money spent on an education. I recommend second opinions. They don't encourage this either. Also, always, document all conversations with names and dates. Always take a "witness" with you into your appointment for support, ask questions, and they are a witness to your care. Especially a hospital visit or stay. Nurses do not have time to take care of their patients. Someone you trust to advocate for your care should stay with you at the hospital during your care. After your care.....an evaluation is usually sent regarding your recent visit and care from the hospital, or doctor, or urgent care. Take time to honestly review, document and explain your experience good and/or bad. Keep a copy of this for your documents. Wishing you the very best in this difficult time. You are loved.

In 2007 Michael More made a documentary about our "Healthcare System" called SICKO, exposing the runaround endured by people who actually pay an insurence company for health care. It's even worse now because we have "investors" who buy up all the private doctors and now we have not just the insurance companies calling the shots, these Private Equity firms also block our doctors from providing us care. We have to fight the insurance companies, AND the Private Equity firms, both of which care only about their investors and their bottom line.
The great US trade unions, the Teamsters, the Longshoremen, the UAW must all go on strike and DEMAND free comprehensive healthcare for all Americans, and an end to the endless wars impoverishing us all.

This reminds me of Amelia and JP (youtubers) who decided to leave the U.S. with a primary premise being the state of the U.S. Medical system. Up here in Canada, there are also issues despite it being publicly funded. Waiting times for particular procedures are unreasonably long and emergency room waits can be ridiculous. Over a period of decades the medical profession in concert with colleges and our government restricted access to Medical Schools through a quota system aimed at serving the financial interests of doctors. Few are willing to outright espouse this fact but its paramount in understanding the poor service. Rural communities are now oftentimes stuck due the the shortage of doctors. Compound a doctor shortage with an immigration system run amok and you have consequences similar to your experience Sarah. Additionally, every large organization has developed service cracks because of an over reliance on technology to communicate. Individuals prefer to defer to the system (telecommunication or otherwise) as opposed to taking charge in working through a matter with responsibility from beginning to end. Indifference and ambivalence seems to have become normative.

This video really hit home for me. I have an HMO with my insurance. I went through the same thing exactly with the phone answering system. I got so mad and fed up that I didn't even bother to call in any longer. Now I just walk into my doctor's office and make the appointment in person. They always make an appointment for me right then and there. Another time I had really high blood pressure for some reason. I walked into the office again and told them that I had critically high blood pressure and needed to see someone "Now". Within 20 minutes I was seen by an NP (Nurse Practitioner) She increased my medication and the pressure was back down to almost normal by the time I got back home. The medical system is broken. But I've learned to work it to my advantage. I hope everything turns out okay for you.

Start looking around for a group of great doctors at a great hospital, to become the patient of. It took me a year to be accepted as a new patient where I go now. If you love your current doctors, great. If not, once you're on Medicare, you just need to find a practice and hospital which take Medicare (which is most good ones) and get them to see you. You can ditch any current doctors/hospital which a health plan forced you to use "in network", once you are in with someone better. Also, DO NOT get Medicare Advantage, even if a salesman "gets you free dental and vision" or "zero preimium". Classical Medicare is far superior. Do not let anyone talk you out of it.
I just had $27,000 of surgery, and even without a supplemental private plan, classical Medicare's negotiated price was so much lower, that my own part of the $27,000 bill was under $1600. Then my hospital/practice let me click a button online to pay it over 23 months with zero interest.

I used to get horrible nosebleeds like you're describing. I had them cauterize the inside of my nose several times on different occasions. Then you have to leave your nose alone afterwards so the cauterization becomes part of your nasal tissue. I did that maybe a couple of times more. I mean you can't even stick kleenex in the nostrils. This stopped them in their tracks. That was back in '93. Cauterizing didn't hurt, by the way.
I hope it gets better for you too.

Thank you for talking about this. It isn't easy. I have some of the same issues you do medically, your info about your experience and the insurance are very very familiar. It's really unfair that as the patient who may be suffering and sick, we have to do all this work just to get basic healthcare. I also have a child on a ventilator with severe medical issues so my time is spent dealing with doctors, therapists, specialists, social workers, medical suppliers but most of all insurance. One good thing --i have medi-CAL for my kid (not for me) and it covers a lot for him. It would be a heck of a lot worse if I wasn't in California. Also I just talked with my friend in FL and he is saying the same thing on how he has to constantly call his insurance just to get basic medical care and they don't return calls ever but will send tons of bills in the mail. I hope you get to see a doctor very soon and the doctor is a good one who can diagnose you accurately and all turns out well! Praying for you!

🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 and much love to you Sarah! Thank you for sharing with us. I certainly have been concerned about you. So sorry for all you've been going through with the health care system. I'm an RN/hospital staff nurse so I totally get it. I hope you get the attention you need soon. Don't worry about the videos. Take care of yourself. I'm not going anywhere that's for sure. I am looking forward to that Goldfield video when it's ready--been there close to half a dozen times and as recently as this past spring. Tonopah too. But, take it slow and no rush! 🤗♥️
