I think the student six are overhated. The main problem is that they had potential and some decent backstories, especially Gallus in The Hearth’s Warming Club. But they didn’t have nearly as many episodes as they could have to explore said backstories in more depth or to be given more overall development. They had SOME backstory and development, but deserved so much more yet.
hard agree. that was definitely a problem I had with the last like two or three seasons; that they tried to do too much with too little time, introducing a bunch or random elements with little compelling development and the completely dropping said elements, and thus a lot of things feel half done or jank or not expanded on enough, and I feel like the intro for season 8/9 itself is a perfect metaphor for that fact with how much stuff they tried to put into it, which in turn leads to its clumsy sort of feel iykwim (just watch it and compare it to the previous intros). I'm not entirely sure what to think of the 6 as of right now, though, I guess they could've been cool, and I'm particularly fond of ocellus, and I found the hippogriff a bit annoying, but that's it really.
@ nah. Spinoffs often don’t work well as we saw with shows like The Cleveland Show, The Patrick Star Show, Planet Sheen, etc. Plus they had some good episodes and interactions with the mane 6 and other characters. They needed more episodes for more development, but not their own show altogether.
@@isaiahkoch1673 But that doesn't really work, considering we alreeady have so many characters who should also get episodes (Main Six, Starlight, Spike, CMC, maybe Discord too). That's twelve characters, add six more and the secondary characters like the Princesses and it starts to be a massive problem. Massive cast bloat in relatively short seasons.....really, all at once with the student six.
I liked the young 6 they just felt underdeveloped. They were put in and the writers weren’t really sure what to do with them without taking big risks from what it felt like.

Young 6 slander is so unfair. They were the ones that carried this season while Mane 6 regressed into shells of themselves. And that’s the fundamental problem with Season 8. The new characters aren’t allowed to have much development because the older characters take up too many episodes, and many of those episodes aren’t even good. When the Young 6 were the center focus, it actually makes you care about them for their different cultures and personalities. Hearth’s Warming Club is one of my favorite episodes from the show. It’s so emotional and it made Gallus one of my favorite characters. He seems tough and “mean” but it’s because he’s insecure and lonely. Like Twilight in Season 1, the spark of magic happened inside him when he met new friends. It’s beautiful. What Lies Beneath is another good one giving them a test similar to Nightmare Moon’s tests in Season 1. A shame they didn’t get much else.

My thoughts exactly. It's so difficult for me to actually hate a single character in this show, idk how other MLP fans do it. With s8 I'm 100% certain the writers were pressured themselves into having the Mane 6 be prominent in almost every episode instead of letting the students shine on their own. This same problem is why Stygian and Tempest never had another major appearance despite being given good stories in the comics. It's like the writers were too afraid to experiment with newer characters. To say that the students were the problem of s8 is to overlook the nonsensical Flim Flam, Discord, Pinkamena episodes + all the times the Mane 6 were being garbage teachers (including Twilight in Hearth's Warming Club) Also fancy seeing you here lol. I still listen to your mashups every now and then. Long live EQG songs
If Pillars became teachers at the school of friendship it would have been better, solving two problems at once by giving them developpement while introducing a whole bunch new characters.
Honestly Cozy glow should have been a disguise of Chrysalis to infiltrate and tear down Twilight and Starlight's school. I mean it would have made SENSE. Learning about her enemy and her power, and use it to DESTROY her. Then have it end with her actually CARING about the CMC and the Students. Sucks when the show starts as toy sells first before story. S8 was obviously screaming "BUY TWILIGHT SCHOOL TOYS!!!" And having Lauren Faust leaving for personal differences with Hasbro shouldve been a red flag. And not interested with G4 S8 and beyond the current MLP.

I liked the world building it added to the show too because... well we've always known that the pony places were more then happy to use other sentient talking animals as livestock (cows, sheep), so a neat touch vaguely to go back to s1 lore.

I really liked the direction they took season 8, it felt like a natural next step for the show and helped to bring the characters toward their full potential. man i was thinking about how the school was such a missed opportunity. like they just say hey theres a worldwide friendship problem, lets make a school to fix it and suddenly it just exists. it also doesnt logistically make sense for the mane 6 to be teachers on top of their existing occupations (pinkie at sugar cube corner/party planner, rarity's boutiques, applejack's farm, rainbow dash being a wonderbolt and on weather duty in ponyville(?), fluttershy's sanctuary) minus maybe twilight. it wouldve been cool if we got a season long arc building up the school of friendship like having characters go on adventures to find new teachers, both existing characters such as reformed gilda maybe, family members of the hoofields and mccolts and new characters + the pillars so by the time season 8 rolls around, theres already something in place and the mane 6's time makes sense. the mane 6 and twi especially could still be around to guide the teachers and students with twilight remaining as headmare but they wouldnt be glued to the school with somehow having time for their other fulltime responsibilities. completely unrelated but i dont really like the young 6 either. i couldnt even tell you my favourite of them if i had to, theyre all such nothing characters to me with no depth or development. i think they had potential and dont hate anyone who does like them or the characters themselves lol.
FRRR- and from a toy making perspective what better way to sell them then to make kids even more attached to characters like discord, derpy, or heck even trixie to sell more toys!! (as a 16 year old i would even buy them lmao)
You are mistaken; there are several allusions to how the Elements of Harmony relate to the Student Six, beginning is Season 8 and continuing into Season 9. The relationship, though is a little complicated. in the Season 8 finale ("School Raze") the Elements seem to line up with the students as follows: Gallus = Magic Ocellus = Generosity Sandbar = Kindness Silverstream = Laughter Smolder = Loyalty Yona = Honesty Then, in Season 9, Episode 3 ("Uprooted") we see evidence of a shift: Gallus = Loyalty (previously Magic) Ocellus = Kindness (previously Generosity) Sandbar = Magic (previously Kindness) Silverstream = Laughter (no change) Smolder = Generosity (previously Loyalty) Yona = Honesty (no change) And in the series finale ("The Last Problem"), during Twilight's song "The Magic of Friendship Grows", we see the relationships seemingly back in their original configuration.
@@psi_mae You need to elaborate. Why, what? The associations in the first two episodes are made through colors, connecting each of the Student Six to the equivalent member of the Mane Six. In the finale, we see each of the Student Six paired with their Element in the montage (such as Sandbar in the background behind Fluttershy).
@@psi_mae Their Elements can be seen in aspects of their personalities: The high value that Gallus places on his friendships (friendship is magic); Yona's forthright nature; how generous Ocellus is with her time; Sandbar's kindness is pretty obvious; Silverstream's bubbly nature; and how Smolder supports her friends when the going gets tough. As I explained in my edit above, the connections are also conveyed visually if you pay attention.
@ you had to stretch the definition out so far with this, so much of it seems like an entire afterthought. Everyone values their friendship in the group, Gallus is just literally has nothing else going on. It doesn’t matter if that had their elements in mind, it’s entirely rushed and poorly communicated “pay attention” to you means squinting and turning your head
I feel like the only good episodes of s8 were the episodes that wasn’t focus on the school of friendship/young 6. Like the only one I mainly like is Smokey and Silverstring.
id have to disagree, sure the season wasn't the greatest, but it had some good moments, the only thing i hate about this season is the fact that (like basically everything that doesnt have to do with mane six) it gets completely washed away in G5
I just found the Young Six EXTREMELY annoying. You'd think more characters in a kid's show would be cringy, but I like even Pinkie. But Yona? Their jokes? Literally anytime they messed around or Yona stsrted talking I would just find it intolerable. And the Yaks actually are one of my favourite species, and I like Rutherford. But yeah, they didn't have enough individual backstory and just leeched vaguely off the Storm King and Chrysalis, and they had barely any interaction with their own people and lands. The dragons get some focus because they already had a fair place already carved out, but other than Gruff we basically never see Gallus interact with his land or ANY of the other Griffons we know (that I can remember.) They tried to make a diverse cast to show how Equestria is moving forward, but prettt much ONLY had them and didn't expand to ANY other characters from their species for the most part, with only a few exceptions. And Yona is just intolerable.
disapointing that we didnt something similar to the planed version (I like it but not all of it lol) but it is what it is now there's opportunity for fanmade comic or aniamtion
To be fair, the central problems of season 8 all cascade from the fact that the 2017 movie was shoehorned into the canon in the 11th hour, and I don't see how the multi-season arc wouldn't have also been affected by it. Though it's simple fact that the continuity of the show being destroyed beyond repair by the movie becoming canon, season 8 not only completely killed the show for many fans like myself, but it built the foundation for G5's failure. As controversial as it is to say, the execution of season 8's concept was far worse than the concept itself. I don't know if Hasbro demanded that the writers made the mane 6 teachers in the school regardless of the story, but the concept of Twilight having her own school is a rather natural progression in spreading the magic of friendship as a means of expanding Equestria's philosophies to other creatures. I think the concept could have been good if A. They didn't contrive a terrible 'villain' to needlessly make the school of friendship something racially controversial and spend multiple episodes on it, and B. They dedicated more time to build the stories of the rest of the student 6 and let their friendships come together through common bonds and shared experiences in the show. And while I still think that the multi-season arc idea would have been better, it's hard to tell how the execution wouldn't have been also negatively affected by the movie being made canon and how much more they could have meaningfully added into the season 7 arc over the course of an 8th season.
What tf are you even talking about?! The movie killed the show canon wtf wha? Huh?! You are one tripy person give me some of that stuff you smoke it must be great!
The movie was always going to be canon. Stop this nonsense and stop spreading disinformation about it killing the show or whatever you are babling about.
agreed had a focus on some stuff but not general stuff that got me to love the show. The epsidoes were similar, while the other episodes were more unique and fit in even though it didn't have much to do with the main plot (those epsidoes aren't filler cuz they still added stuff to the plot and characters) and it just help develop the characters
...What? People don't like this season? I loved every season I've watched so far, as a newbie that is. First or second season probably being the least favorite because of the wierd animation and less interesting characters
Oh and the finale? Should have had the Mean 3 SUCCEED in taking away all magic. Only for the student six to help the main 6 relearn the power of friendship, which ends up creating too much new magic for the bell to contain/absorb. Leading to it overloading, and redistributing the magic back to their original holders but also taking away the Mean 3's magic and abilities. Tirek loses his magic absorption, Chrysalis loosing her flight and shapeshifting, and Cozy Glow losing her flight and cutiemark. Also gives magic to beings that didn't have magic as a result, such as earth ponies, dragons, and gryphons. Imply the original Grogar took away their species magic long ago and it was never recovered, until now. Sure being turned to stone is bad, BUT that didn't stop discord from resuming his evil afterwards, Cozy Glow would obviously trick a future foal to believe her and try to take down future ponies. Either that or after taking away all magic, the mean 3 try to take over, only for the windegos to overwhelm them all with the bell not even affecting them, as if they aren't even there. Causing them to actually embrace friendship
season 8 was bad but not the wrost. think wrost season 7 beside being last one with map mission. but then like tree I think in 8. plus one not sy it is but think should be. there might been a glow mark that say mission time and I didn't see it. but that was finally eps eof season and does used who other thing with start usual bot being connect some how. which one thing love with last 3 season or so there story base where think gen 5 was better at then 1st 5 season or so.
Spot on for the Young Six. Why they're so adored is beyond me. They can be summed up to "oooh, naughty little teens misbehaving and being angry all the time! And for some reason, they're the new Mane Six now, LOL". Uncompulsory characters. Relegating the season to 80% School Of Friendship was unintelligent, since... How do you learn friendship, reminiscent of how you would do mathematics or biology? Clearly a poor attempt to sell merchandise, without properly incorporating it into the show. Uncollective criticisms include the fact that... Not much occours in this season. The Young Six being introduced as game changers, when they don't contribute shit to the series. Characters not acting like themselves. Etc. With all of this being stated, the title is overexaggeration. A slightly poorer season won't tear down the series. There are underrated gems here, and it did introduce my all-time favorite fictional character, Cozy Glow. Neighsay wasn't atrocious either. I liked Yaxitty Yax or however it's spelled, purely for how fever dreamish it is. I would rank this above season 7 and 6, but below everything else. It's not the best, but the hate is unmerited. Cozy Glow for life! Cozy Glow is Best Pony.
@@CozyGlow625 in the series finale they gave the young six these colored auras to incite what elements they are supposed to be I have no clue why Gallus is the element of magic

The relationship, though is a little complicated. in the Season 8 finale ("School Raze") the Elements seem to line up with the students as follows:
Gallus = Magic
Ocellus = Generosity
Sandbar = Kindness
Silverstream = Laughter
Smolder = Loyalty
Yona = Honesty
Then, in Season 9, Episode 3 ("Uprooted") we see evidence of a shift:
Gallus = Loyalty (previously Magic)
Ocellus = Kindness (previously Generosity)
Sandbar = Magic (previously Kindness)
Silverstream = Laughter (no change)
Smolder = Generosity (previously Loyalty)
Yona = Honesty (no change)
And in the series finale ("The Last Problem"), during Twilight's song "The Magic of Friendship Grows", we see the relationships seemingly back in their original configuration.
@@otaku-sempai2197 okay but, why
@@psi_mae You need to elaborate. Why, what? The associations in the first two episodes are made through colors, connecting each of the Student Six to the equivalent member of the Mane Six. In the finale, we see each of the Student Six paired with their Element in the montage (such as Sandbar in the background behind Fluttershy).
@ like what do they display that represent these ideas?
@@psi_mae Their Elements can be seen in aspects of their personalities: The high value that Gallus places on his friendships (friendship is magic); Yona's forthright nature; how generous Ocellus is with her time; Sandbar's kindness is pretty obvious; Silverstream's bubbly nature; and how Smolder supports her friends when the going gets tough. As I explained in my edit above, the connections are also conveyed visually if you pay attention.
@
you had to stretch the definition out so far with this, so much of it seems like an entire afterthought.
Everyone values their friendship in the group, Gallus is just literally has nothing else going on.
It doesn’t matter if that had their elements in mind, it’s entirely rushed and poorly communicated
“pay attention” to you means squinting and turning your head
I feel like the only good episodes of s8 were the episodes that wasn’t focus on the school of friendship/young 6. Like the only one I mainly like is Smokey and Silverstring.
id have to disagree, sure the season wasn't the greatest, but it had some good moments, the only thing i hate about this season is the fact that (like basically everything that doesnt have to do with mane six) it gets completely washed away in G5
Are u kidding me,we could of had more Starlight, personally the next main 6 would be Starlight,Trixie, Sunburst,Discord,Derby and Maud
I don't hate season 8, I just find it to be a wasted season.
The fact the ToonKriticY2K scandal happened in the same year did not help matters.
Season 8 made cosy glow. Automatically in the low tiers of mlp seasons.
the mini six were so irritating and transparent (not really individually mind you just as a whole) ii'm just glad they didn't get the element
"Chucklefucks." "BAH HAA HAA!" Caught me off guard with that one. Oh and this is what happens when Mares are in charge. "BAH HAA HAA!"
Unpopular opinion, I think season 9 was a lot of worse than season 8
Trash Vs Garbage lol
I just found the Young Six EXTREMELY annoying. You'd think more characters in a kid's show would be cringy, but I like even Pinkie. But Yona? Their jokes? Literally anytime they messed around or Yona stsrted talking I would just find it intolerable. And the Yaks actually are one of my favourite species, and I like Rutherford.
But yeah, they didn't have enough individual backstory and just leeched vaguely off the Storm King and Chrysalis, and they had barely any interaction with their own people and lands. The dragons get some focus because they already had a fair place already carved out, but other than Gruff we basically never see Gallus interact with his land or ANY of the other Griffons we know (that I can remember.)
They tried to make a diverse cast to show how Equestria is moving forward, but prettt much ONLY had them and didn't expand to ANY other characters from their species for the most part, with only a few exceptions.
And Yona is just intolerable.
disapointing that we didnt something similar to the planed version (I like it but not all of it lol) but it is what it is now there's opportunity for fanmade comic or aniamtion
Season 8 did ruin mlp g4, but season 9 fixed it, I kinda consider s8 uncanny to the series and usually skip most if not all the season when watching
Not sure what they were thinking with it
agreed had a focus on some stuff but not general stuff that got me to love the show.
First or second season probably being the least favorite because of the wierd animation and less interesting characters
huh i wonder if there are any fics that delve into what jim miller talked about
Oh and the finale?
So do you think Season 8 should be revised? Mix Master has some work to do! Time to start a new petition to get Hasbro to rewrite Season 8!
100% agree with your points they r explained well and get to the source of the problem
season 8 was bad but not the wrost. think wrost season 7 beside being last one with map mission. but then like tree I think in 8. plus one not sy it is but think should be. there might been a glow mark that say mission time and I didn't see it. but that was finally eps eof season and does used who other thing with start usual bot being connect some how. which one thing love with last 3 season or so there story base where think gen 5 was better at then 1st 5 season or so.
Oof, here it goes.
Honestly, I LOVE season 8. Second favorite season.
But it is the most mixed bag, with really high highs and some really low lows
i literally could not get through s8 I was so bored so I'm actually really sad it could've been better fuck
The student 6 sucked! This is my little PONY!!! They should have got there own show
Acercándose, el peligro viene ya.
its pony
i did not gaf about the young 6
@@CozyGlow625 in the series finale they gave the young six these colored auras to incite what elements they are supposed to be
I have no clue why Gallus is the element of magic
@psi_mae Because 💫 Magic 💫 happened?
We need the famous spin-off my little sigmas to have a season 2
Oh no, not the Undertale's song on the background...
Uh oh. Someone doesnt know peak
Why’s it called my little pony if there’s more animals than ponys
No it didnt. Stupid clickbait
Oh dear, it is very truth. Have you even seen the 8. season? Or like didn't you pay attention the whole video? tons of bronies were disapointed with 8. season… But what's the point of repeating it, maybe watch this video again, or don't lie about it being clickbait
