Freightliner Cascadia: Park Brake Air Low, Brakes May Drag Warning

  • A common problem with the new #freightliner Cascadia is the "park brake air low, brakes may drag" warning.
    When the system is operating properly, the warning will come on with the truck in gear and the #brakes released if air pressure is dropping to 75psi or below.
    When the system is not operating properly, and the switch is failing, it will stick and come on at higher air pressure readings, or possibly stay on at all times with the truck in gear and brakes released.
    If you are getting this warning at pressures above 75psi, and there are no leaks in the system, the most likely problem is a switch called "brake pressure, low brake drag warning". Yes, Freightliner has a switch added to the system specifically for this warning. Why not simply use the low air pressure warning? Ask freightliner, I guess they wanted to complicate their trucks even further with unneeded parts.
    To remove this switch:
    1. drain all air from the air system.
    2. remove the three trim panels below the steering wheel to access the switch.
    3. disconnect the connector and unscrew the switch. This particular switch has a blue stripe on it, part number is 12-26771-000.
    4. install new switch, reconnect connector.
    5. veriy repair by starting truck and verifying warning turns off around 75psi.
    6. reinstall the trim panels.
    If you purchased all of the extended warranties from freightliner when you bought the truck, the part is covered under warranty. That said, the part costs around $50 from the dealer, and you can complete the repair yourself in under an hour if you have the part in hand.

    Since this happens so often it seems more like a manufacturers defect in the switch mechanism. Mine just started doing this on & off. Beeps the damn horn when I open the door thinking I didn't apply the brakes. Damn PITA! I suspect mine's going because of moisture corrosion buildup in the valve. The governor spit valve is kinda wet though I get no water coming out of the drain cable valves which is weird. I'm thinking of getting a new switch but will try to either take apart the old one first, clean and lubricate it and see if that may fix it. I'd like to use a grease that won't easily wear or wash off by pressure and moisture like an antiseize, marine or a ceramic synthetic type grease. If successful not only does this save money by not risking breaking plastic tabs on the covers or risk over tightening the valve like another guy did, stripping the brass threads and having a costly replacement of the whole unit. But I'm also a cheap b@stard ao there's that. We'll see how it goes.

    Thank you great video, saved me $$$ did it myself. However the part has changed, it looks like a red switch now. The parts guy said they have had so much problems with this switch so they use a different one now. Will have to buy a connector for new switch also.

      Someone posted in another comment that the part had been updated and the color had changed, so as long as you verify they are giving you the correct part there shouldn’t be an issue.

    Man i did it the sensor is fixed but i can hear air.. do you know what it could be?

    • @FreightRelocators
      @FreightRelocators  2 года назад +1

      Lots of air lines down there that you have to be careful about moving around. If it's simply one of the quick connect air lines leaking, you may be able to fix it by taking it lose and replacing the o-ring.
