I've never tried iracing, but from a viewer, I do like watching the racing. Now rain is here, would be great to see you in a weekly championship if you had the time to do so.
Keep up the great work mate. 👍💜🤗

Jardier, great video. Iracing considers maximum realistic wet level the one got with moderate rain. They say that driving with the water level you are there is unrealistic. In official events the maximum wetness will be much lower and realistic.
Apart from that, no way you considet the dry line too forgiving. You have to set track usage to a 90% or 100% level so theres rubber in the line. It is quite slippery 😂😂

One thing I would like is shader for flowing water. I mean for uneven surfaces such as hills and whatnot. It's just a bit unnatural how some of the puddles stick to the surfaces.
However other than that it looks absolutely great.

I think everyone has forgotten about the rain in Project Cars 2. You really had to adjust your lines, hitting a puddle on one wheel could mess you up. Don’t know how realistic it was but it’s a lot more involved than ACC for example.

AMS2 has it too. Puddles there are deadly.

About the racing dry line in the rain. In testdrive you mostly start with a 0% track..so NO marbles on the track....try a fully used track with lots of rubber on the dry line and then rain...its a totally differnet driving

  • @tigerzero5216

I understand the main focus of this video was on 2 things. How realistic the car handles on a rain saturated track and how that rain saturated track looks. Seems fairly obvious Jardier likes it.
I want to bring attention to the rest of what is seen. Not much obstruction to the driver's view, except for the spray when there is a car in front. At 10:42 freeze frame it and look at how far you can see down that long straight. You can see the end. Jardier said this will be under heavy conditions. The end of that straight should not be visible. The rain is not dulling the view much. Maybe IRacing will address that in the next update.

Always appreciate the great videos you make for us. Our team is made up of half ACC & half iRacing so you can imagine our team discord chats lol.
Here’s my feeling, iRacing was able to nail the alternative “wet racing line” whereas ACC is a must to stick on the racing line which isn’t realistic & it’s a great point you made about ACC’s model being from 2018 & iRacing now on 2024 technology so it definitely looks like they really nailed the rain for the most part. They have to fix all the things you mentioned especially the spray & the way the rain falls in only 1 direction & whether your driving 100mph or 5mph the rain fall on windscreen is the same. With a few hotfix should be great.
    PS: Can’t wait for AC2

Grip: I think it depends on the track. I also raced NOS. And NOS has the most grip. Sebring and Monza have much less grip.
We had a practice Session in our racing league on Monza yesterday. And as rain began and we were on wets, the car oversteered very much into the cornder as you would expect and sometimes you had a oversteer on corner exit. It was very difficult to drive. So, it depends very on the track how much grip you have. My experiences so far.

iRacing is the only sim, where rain is drivable for me. I don't like rain in ACC, AMS2. In iRacing, Rain is believable, feels like rain, car feels amazing through FFB. And when you drive through puddles, ohh my. I LOVE IT. In every other sim, when raining, you just lose grip, and nothing else changes. For the most part.
iRacing has done an incredible job with their Tempest weather system. But I agree, they have to make two thirds of the spray behind the car more transparent. Example: If the spray is 3 meters long. First meter should maybe stay the same, but the last 2 meters much more transparent. It wouldn't be "more like real life," but it could be the best compromise. Because as Jardier said, in real life your two eyes see more than the camera, even if the camera is in the same position as your eyes.

I tried in VR and you get the track position awareness but still can't see the car in front. The 3d helps.

I think, its Rain 1.0. And its a new standard. They will collect data and oppinions of the drivers in this season. Adn they will improve the rain. Rain 2.0 then will be THE Standard, I'm sure.
One thing they mentioned and is on no. 1 on their list is the rain light in the spray. They will improve it.
As I said, for the rain in 1.0 version its the best out there.
Thanks also to Tony Kanaan who worked together with iRacing.
Perhaps he said in season 4 in 2023, "no, you have to improve the rain, you cannot release it". Who knows.
My college said, that in ACC for example, rain is only graphical and you have less grip. Less grip evereywhere and everywhere the same. Also in ACC when many cars go over the track, always the dry racing line will get more dry, whereever the cars drive. Btw. the cars dont have to race a wet line.
So, iRacing is the closest to realistic what you can get.
And I love it. It is so much fun. When you go with a powerslide out of the corner and can hold it. or when you get a snap and can recover. Its so cool. The tyre model is way better than in dry conditions :)

  • @willstuart6666

Dumb question. How do I switch from dry tires to wet mid race? I've only been playing for a 2 months. I just did my first wet race (Ferrari GT3 15 min). When I pitted to switch to wet tires, it said that the tire cannot be changed during the race. So I guess I have to pick wet or dry tires and use that for the entire race? This seems ridiculous. Timing the tire change is all what racing is all about.

One thing to note is that IRacing simulates the rubbering of the track over the course of the race, so during the start of a session when the track is green the racing line wont be rubbered and you'll have the same amount of grip as taking the wet line.

@@Ramocolypse i can tell you from my experience: there are not that much puddles on the nordschleife in real life. I guess the track ingame is sooooo old, must be more than 10 years. But last year, i raced in havy rain, there were nearly no puddles. Also I see in iRacing, in nearly every corner, there is a puddle at the apex. Its not like this in real life, also the racing line is much more slippier in real than in the game. But the game is still amazing.

    • @f1_onboardsAC
      @f1_onboardsAC 7 месяцев назад +1

That is a wet level which we wont race in official races because a red flag would have beeen shown way before. IRacing confirmed this. If you set moderate rain there is a really realistic amount of water. Remember Nurburgring 2007 F1, how turn 1 was.
