So glad you addressed the metal fork on non-stick...I was about to yell until you acknowledged it haha. Watching your process was great! We are cooking the same Costco fish for dinner! Thank you!
@@ChefDawg it was great! Big hit with the wife! Initial idea was to bake it with some seasoning. I don’t have your fancy stuff, but I put together a little bowl with salt, black pepper, paprika, minced garlic, garlic powder, and oregano. You gave me the idea to do it in a pan with oil and butter. I overlooked it slightly…your heat level and times were right on…I should have listened more closely. This came out great. As long as they are thawed this is SUCH a quick protein for dinner. Tasty and healthy, what’s not to love? Thanks again!
What are the ingredients in those blends you used? Can’t jet off to Hawaii today to get some, so I have to DIY. I’m fixing to prepare some of this very thing tonight, and I haven’t ever done it before. Yellowfin has been my latest favorite with salmon being the general fave fish. Basic S and P are a given, but when I last attempted Chilean Sea Bass I wasn’t pleased at all, I winged it and guessed on possibly the worst options.
The island volcano seasoning is talian seasoning, sea salt, Chilli pepper, garlic, onion, pepper, spices, paprika and vinegar... the other Dakine Hawaii rub is cane sugar, lemon pepper, salt, garlic, sea salt, coffee and parsley. Thx for watching
So, I'm always torn about cooking with garlic like you did. I feel like it's always burned by the time I'm finished cooking. How do you avoid burning it in med-high? Thanks! 😊
It is hard to do. I don't mind in a little bit burnt though so I'm different but I turn it down and flip the meat a bunch and if it gets to the point I think it will be burnt I take it and finish it in the air fryer
I add garlic cloves cut in half, and in the middle of frying, like when I flip a fish. It still imparts that delicious garlic smell, and half pieces don't burn as fast
If you add the garlic and oil to the pan while it's cold, and heat it up gradually (not on nuclear like in the video), the garlic will not burn. There is no need to use high heat with aluminum pans.
I just cooked me up some rice (in my tiger rice cooker (from costco) came out perfect! Pan fried a fillet of Kirkland Mahi-Mahi in the same fashion as you did except I used avocado oil and butter. It was excellent!!! Thank you!
You burned the garlic, first you cook fosh then you removed fish, seared garlic with herbs, lemon, butter and brung back fish for a minute put sauce on top
Damn, everyone in the comments is ruthless. Yeah, there's some mistakes and things that could've been done better, but I think the video was still entertaining and informative.
You burned the garlic - should have used whole crushed garlic, extracted the flavor , removed the browned garlic, cooked the fish until flaky - the middle was still raw. This is not acceptable since the fish was frozen.
Fish from frozen is safe to eat raw if following storage guidelines by FDA. If it's frozen at the store, it follows those guidelines. I agree about the minced garlic in a jar though lmao. But yeah dude, it's fine to hardly cook or even eat raw frozen food especially if it's farmed.
I have bought many bags of this over the years. the fish steaks are hit and miss some are not vacuum sealed properly and just taste fishy rancid. I haver really backed off buying these because it seems to be getting worse. Buy at your own risk there is usually at least one bad fish steak per bag.
Aloha from Hawaii!!! Chef is on point with Costco mahi mahi…. Pretty darn close Costco is all about quality If I’m lazy and don’t want to go to our local market to get fresh mahi…. Brah, Costco da one!
Was greatly concerned how this would taste and turn out. Ppl say it’s a tough tasting fish. It don’t taste any different than fish fillet to me. Although I used this recipe I think I’ll fry it next time.
I enjoyed vid. These comments are great. You’re catching a lot of heat(just like your garlic) from these folks. I’ll be using your guidelines for cooking mahi today.
Bought the Mahi Mahi from Costco and delicious. Just asking though.. Why does a chef use processed garlic? Why not chopped fresh garlic? I have heard many negative things about how minced garlic is processed to the point that it is so gross that I refuse to buy it any longer. A chef should always use fresh! Unless Costco is paying for this review and that makes sense.
@@ChefDawg How can you be a "chef" and not know all the seasoning is going to burn? And it does not appear you have even cooked fish before. Also the fish you caught in Hawaii was a Yellowfin, not Dorado.
Is everyone buying this Mahi Mahi at Costco in the States. We used to buy this all the time, we are in Canada & now our Costco sells a different brand of Mahi Mahi & it is not the same at all. If Costco in the States still carries the Kirkland brand of it, I'll pick it up next time I'm over. Hopefully, someone can let me know.
Not if you’re using a quality product. Tuna is essentially immune to worms and if the freezing was done properly it destroys the parasites as far as their ability to infect the eaters.
Bruh, I don’t like to be that guy but you’re using jarlic which is a no then you burned it and added fake lemon juice to finish while scraping nonstick coating into the dish? Is this one of those rage bait videos?
As a supposed chef, how do you not know that when you pan fry a protein with coarse seasonings all over it, you're gonna burn that stuff? And you did. Coarse seasonings should only be used for INDIRECT heat cooking, like baking in the oven. Sorry, but you got no cred in MY book.
You are supposed to remove all packaging to tgaw

I just assumed it was a pun. Jar+garlic = Jarlic.
Lol.... love it
You need to turn in your fancy chef jacket. The bottled lemon juice and tartar sauce were the last straw for me.
I like when you review the healthier options. I will now look for this.
Wonder what is in these Hawaiian spices. And what to put on fish if I don't have them?
If you check out our description we have the spices used, where you can find the ingredients

What are you preheating that oven for?
We fished for them for years in Mexico
Loved the experience!!
You caught mahi mahi in Hawaii? Which island did you go to? Was the fish catching part of a tour? We went to Oahu and had a great time
We were on kawaii and booked a deep-sea fishing trip with some locals, It was awesome there. We would go again in a heartbeat.
The fish in the clip was an amberjack not a mahi

Adding in the garlic later, or precooking it at low temp to flavor the fat, strain off, so you don’t get the burnt bitterness.
