It's just sad to have to let go one that's legally registered as a 7 seater. I don't really know if you could legally register a car that used to have 5 seats as a 7 seats car if you installed the parts from the 7 seater in it, I guess it depends on your country. But yeah, a looot of rust

And I say this while I've just finished welding the floors, wheel arches and rear jacking points of a 1989 744 (like you, I've been hoarding Volvos lately, so now there's three of them here). Hardly worth it money wise if you count all the hours I've spent on it. But at least it's a pre facelift model; despite Volvo's best effort the 1990 onwards 740 doesn't appeal to me that much. Makes the decision to part it out a little easier I'd think. Anyways, good luck ;)

It was surely not a good deal, maybe average. I think below average, even for spare parts. I rarely have seen such a rusty and exhausted Volvo. The only advantage of this car is the additional seats in the trunk for own use or selling. Hope the engine can be rescued, if yes it could bring back some money. The M47 gearbox is (almost) worthless, even in a running condition. And the remaining parts? Mostly not much worth... Headlights, Bumpers etc. may bring back some money, the 740 between-model parts are not as common like the usual 740/940 parts.
I made a good deal in 2013, I bought a 945 Turbodiesel Intercooler for 100€ which was in a better overall condition. Engine was running well (that was the reason why I bought it, I needed a replacement engine because my previous one blew up) ...
