- I blind bought the cheapest Volvo 740 in the country.. maybe even the world! But you get what you pay for, this car has serious issues.

Instant parts save - wheels, badges, interior trim, mirrors, Lambda Sond badge, dials, wiper arms. Shes a lovely old girl and too far gone for the road but she is a big source of parts to keep other oldies going
Exactly 💯👍
It's just sad to have to let go one that's legally registered as a 7 seater. I don't really know if you could legally register a car that used to have 5 seats as a 7 seats car if you installed the parts from the 7 seater in it, I guess it depends on your country. But yeah, a looot of rust
@@leoademayyyne4979 that's a good point, I need to check the paperwork, in Germany it will be something to catch me out for sure 😅
this couldn't be more on point.
I don’t agree; new outer sills and some welding underneath and a door or two 👍🏻
I can honestly state that I have never seen a 7 series Volvo with so much rust, definitely a donor vehicle unfortunately!
That interior is something else! You always seem to find the cleanest of them.
Haha cheers Dean!
It was love at first sight on your face when that baby rolled off the recovery truck
When faced with that turning up I just love the smile on your Mrs face. One either enthusiastic or very tolerant lady 😊
Both I think 😄
You could learn welding on this car. A great car to hone your soon to be welding skills. The missing and cut wires are a little worrisome but...
Thanks 👍
A challenging Volvo and a understanding wife. That’s happiness 😁👍🏻
Couldn't agree more!
i do believe this calls for a crash course in welding
The Jekyll and Hyde of Volvos. Did not expect that interior to be so clean!
Me neither! Thanks for the membership 🙏
@@Involvod my pleasure!
I think some diesel in the cylinders would do some magic
I love that you have adopted "Uffda" as a saying :D Makes my Scandinavian heart warm
Now we are talking. Getting more old Volvos. :) that extra third row seat. That was something special. Hope engine will be possible to loose free.
Good old Volvo Racing Pink🤣 funny how red always had worse lacquer than most colours. First facelift 740 you''ve had on the channel too. That interior is surprisingly clean despite the state of the outside, I do like those tweed seats
Yeah exactly! I think I prefer the pink ones over red 😅 Give it the tank look
Pink to Red use Autoglym Super Resin Polish, like facial for the paint.
Definitely a base model with the tweed seat material and manual rear windows. The rear seat belt buckles gave the 3rd of seats away hehe.
Nice interior to grab and those extra seats! 😀
Yes indeed!
Nice bargain find wish I could find a parts car that cheap here in Ireland 👌👍excellent
Thanks 👍
That is either a parts donor or a brave restoration. The rot looked to be localised so it might be worth saving...
I didn't show much underneath but it's everywhere, all through the body even in weird places you wouldn't expect, very strange
This thing is meant to bring another car with a good chassis and bad interior a new life. Unbelievably good value for 300€ all things considered.
A good find. Strip the interior engine and gearbox. A good parts car. Never seen so much rot.
Agreed!
Theres a bit of 740 on your rust there mate
MANUAL TIME!!
Hi, Keep the kiddie seats for when You have another FOUR kids!!! hehe ; - )
Rust is just natures way of making drain holes.... we should be able to do our own roadworthy assessments.
It is worth restoring i think. You wanted to learn welding. Now you have no excuse brother 😁
Its a good parts car. The Interieur looks nice!
Have you won the lottery on the quiet !! 😁
Take it for an german mot this one will probably pass going off how silly the inspector can be! Lol😅
If ypu think thats a mess you should see some of the volvos here in sweden :)
Whichever comes first it's up to you guys find out what what y'all going to do
I know it sounds creazy but I actually really thought you would restore this one… That would be definitely some hard welding excercise :) anyway für 300 Euros you can‘t complain. If I had place I would buy some more of these too…
Those look like the door handles VW used on the middle 80's golf. in the southern USA, it was below freezing and I went to open the door and "SNAP" had to go in the passenger door to get home. they never broke at a good time and I took to carrying a spare with me.
It seems to rain every time you get a Volvo delivered!
I was thinking that too!! Haha
Best of luck at getting it unstuck!
Thanks!
Too many thoughts going through my little mind. If you get it running, here in Canada, I'd say it's an "ice racing " wagon... on lakes, not on the roads. Obviously, some parts and a great interior...seats for the "Man Den". I just paid $300.00 CDN to get 4 winter tires removed, 16 inch Volvo steel rims sand blasted and powder coated and tires remounted and balanced.
Where did you get all of that done for $300?
Simeon B. Martin Mfg. Ltd. 4198 Lavery Road, RR#1 Wallenstein, ON for sandblasting and powder coating.@@bobjohnson205
Wow, here they'd charge more than that per wheel 😂
Same where I live. I got charged $197 this past May for removing 4 old summer tires and mounting and balancing 4 new tires on the old steel rims. He got a real deal! @@Involvod
I bought my last car (a 940) for £425 unseen. It's road worthy, and I love it. Well done Sledge, This is what we want to see on this channel😊.
Bargain! Thanks 👍
@@Involvod This is social media and everything is wonderful....it might have cost £425 but unlike your 740 which seems to have a single paint coat, mine is a lacquer over Pearl, the bonnet has horrendous lacquer peel (or amazing, depending on your point of view 😊) and every panel needs paint. My other half refuses to drive it given how it looks.
@@jeremybedford2952 ah yes, the 940s are really bad for that, I had a blue-green metallic one that looked a right state!
@@Involvod Now you tell me!
342k km is nothing, i had a 940 turbo that had done 530k km when i was done with it. It's still being inspected, still runs today.
You could part that out for $3000 euros! Interior alone may be worth that much.😀
Would be nice 😀
That faded RED will come back with Autoglym Super Resin Polish SRP by hand, I detail cars.
If I were you I would fill the cylinders and the valve area with diesel, from what I hear it's good for these kinds of situations.
Thanks 👍
@@Involvod I just hope it works, I have never done it myself but from what I've heard from others it's the way to go.
@@jonasbjork6593 I will definitely remember it for next time, this time I already put the acetone and ATF in there, very strange cocktail!
@@Involvod When did you do it? Did it work?
@@jonasbjork6593 we'll find out in the next episode 😀
the baby went 'oh god not another one' and started crying 😆 the weather was just an excuse
indeed this interior is in great shape, that cloth and foam has definitely not 320.000 km wear, must had featherweight users (and very careful)...
looking forward to see what you're gonna do with this very rusty tank
Try to hit it with a wire wheel. The rust might be local. My vw golf 4 has the same problem on the front sides of the sills. It suffers from rust but only on that place. The rest of it is spotless.
I've never seen a 740 as rotten as that one; it makes mine look concours! I wonder where it spent most of its time?
The more I look underneath, the worse it gets, honestly looks like it's been in the sea!
@@Involvod Given the fact it has a towbar, it could have been used to launch/retrieve small boats or jetskis via a slipway, meaning that it may have had a dip in the 'oggin' quite often.
nice donator for your other cars =)
I think it's a keeper!
We'll see about that 😅
Oh Sledge I suppose that there are lots of parts that you can salvage. Even you could not get this poor old car back on the road.
Definitely!
Love the manual windows on a 7 series in Europe. Those door cards do look mint. Score on the rear seat as well!
May be a good candidate for paper mache 😅
Next time on Involvo'd: Pouring asphalt over my garden so I can park even more volvos there xD
Never got the point of this slight face-lift, the original 740 looked much better.
Haha, if I had my way it would be a Volvo yard for sure!
And agreed Paulie 🤟🏽
@@InvolvodI'm sure there's a law against that
@@AstraWerke natürlich 😄
da vero hai pubblicato un bel video.
Good parts car
I've used a healthy dose of redex down stuck bores/pistons before left soaking for a day or two and had good results
Hmm good to know! Thanks
I canny wait to see what the plan is for this one. Big source of parts but methinks it will never see a highway again. Ive seen a few of these but i havn't seen one that bad. Did you purchase it out of the knackers yard or what ever the scrap yards are called in Germany.?? 🙄
I actually found it on the local classifieds site like most of them, it was a private sale reduced if taken that weekend, I think he was getting into trouble from his old lady as it was just sat there in the yard for years! (Hopefully history doesn't repeat itself)
Do you still have the blue 740 wagon, I believe it is called Lilly if you still have it that red 740 wagon would be a good parts car you have the extra seat in the back plus some other parts to keep your wagon in awesome conditions, like the interior the door cards the mirrors plus any other parts you can use.
Definitely 👍
There’s at least 100bhp in weight reduction there. Wow
A Swiss Volvo 🤣 Is this gonna be your practice welding car?
I think it might be a bit much to start with, think I'll stick to the 240 wagon for now 😄
you're not gonna get the motor to spin with that small wrench. I suggest putting some 20w50 in the cylinders and draining the old gas before you start it.
Good parts car 👍
Houston we have a problem😄 or can you have too many station wagons🤔
use just 2stroke engine oil in the cylinders, you don't need anything else
Good tip, thanks!
How do you keep findings these? Hehehe. I'd save all the good parts such as the door cards, trim pieces and third row seat, and send the rest to car heaven. And I say this while I've just finished welding the floors, wheel arches and rear jacking points of a 1989 744 (like you, I've been hoarding Volvos lately, so now there's three of them here). Hardly worth it money wise if you count all the hours I've spent on it. But at least it's a pre facelift model; despite Volvo's best effort the 1990 onwards 740 doesn't appeal to me that much. Makes the decision to part it out a little easier I'd think. Anyways, good luck ;)
Totally agreed! Thanks 🙂
That interior is amazing and the rest is a nightmare. What's the plan? Is it a donner vehicle only?
It's definitely looking that way!
Damn man great purchase! I just bought a 940 gle in the exact same (pink🤣) color from the first owner! Sadly enough she treated it as a real swedisch tank and almost every panel has a scratch or dent☠️! Im looking for a couple outside trim peices, maybe ur willing to sell some?
Yes definitely! You can find me on Instagram or on the email in the about section 👍
@@Involvod will do!
Perfect car to learn how to weld on tho, get a fluxcore welder and go wild
I don’t think it has seen the Sun in its life.Hence the perfect door cards and dash. Lived outside in a high rainfall area. But plenty of good parts, which would cost a lot more then 300 Euros to purchase. Probably the dash alone would be worth that. You just can’t help yourself. Lol.
It was surely not a good deal, maybe average. I think below average, even for spare parts. I rarely have seen such a rusty and exhausted Volvo. The only advantage of this car is the additional seats in the trunk for own use or selling. Hope the engine can be rescued, if yes it could bring back some money. The M47 gearbox is (almost) worthless, even in a running condition. And the remaining parts? Mostly not much worth... Headlights, Bumpers etc. may bring back some money, the 740 between-model parts are not as common like the usual 740/940 parts.
I made a good deal in 2013, I bought a 945 Turbodiesel Intercooler for 100€ which was in a better overall condition. Engine was running well (that was the reason why I bought it, I needed a replacement engine because my previous one blew up) ...
Good luck with the red one !
✊✊
not that long ago this car would get fresh MOT in Poland, Now everything is almost like in germany...
So it's even changing there too! 🤔
Take the door cards, the seats, the dashboard....and have it removed...lol...what on earth ?
300euro Volvo should be no no no Nein Neon from the start ......
B200f is a damn good engine and powerful , regular oil changes is the key , the 2 i had a 245 and a 944 were great and very reliable , they dont seem to blow headgaskets as much as the B230
That's good to know, I've never heard that before, mostly just people talking about the lack of torque by comparison
Let's be honest, the Churchbells are ringing for the funeral of the poor 740. But it's worth for good parts. So don't give it a name.
I like Volvos but do not fix that car. Take some parts and get it on the scrap!
Good.Hopefully as a donor car.Otherwise you are collecting too many old cars that taking space ,in a country that does not like junkyards
so rusty but i enjoy to watch
not in the world, as i just got a 965 for free.. haha.
hope you save it !
cheap donor ,plenty of spares :)
Who could pass up all those parts for 300 euros? I had no idea they ever made a 2L!
I don't think you guys ever got them in the states!
The 2.0 L were made for southern europe due to some car tax tricks…
I think that's a parts car - way too much rust. Try putting it in gear and rocking it back and forwards to free off the engine. You can get cheapy borescopes that connect o your mobile that aren't bad for the money (about £10 to £20).
Thanks, good idea 👍
You guys will soon habe to buy a house on a piece of land.. so you can fit all them Volvos!
Would love that!
Were do you find thoes Volvos?
On Kleinanzeigan, that was where I found all but 2 of them, they were on Volvo Börse on FB
Very nice, i would have paid 300€ for the interior alone.
Congratulations for that great deal@@Involvod
@@finn2586 thanks man 👍
Bargain, all those spares for the price of a set of tyres.
Exactly!
Hahah should have bought a turbocharged one
Whats the reason for you buying this? Its in a very bad condition i think.
The main reason was for parts, but a bonus if it was savable
@@Involvod my opinion is that this car is only good for parts and thats it.
When you're a RUclipsr and trying to reach that all-important 10K subscriber mark and grow your channel, as Sledge is, then content is content! 😉
No need for the screwdriver of doom, just use your finger, parts car then.. ?
Yes definitely 😅
I'm sorry but I'm a bit worried about the path you are on. 2 or 3 more videos on and you will be gazing in awe at the wheel nut you've bought for 200 euros.
😮Why man, just why?
I get the interior is clean, but why did you need to buy the whole car for it😭😭
This one is going to be interesting to follow 🫣🫣
