So many ways to SAY YES in English!

  • I will teach you 26 ways to say “YES” in English! Not all ways of saying “yes” are equally strong in English. In fact, sometimes, when we say yes, we really mean no! How confusing! Due to the constraints of politeness, we are often forced to agree to something we disagree with. In this lesson, I will teach you all the different ways of saying yes in English. You will learn how to tell the difference between a strong and certain “yes”, a neutral “yes”, and even a reluctant, passive aggressive “yes”. You should always say what you mean and mean what you say, but when that is impossible, try some of these different ways of agreeing even when you disagree! Test your new skills with the quiz at www.engvid.com/so-many-ways-t...
Make sure you also watch my video on how to SAY NO in English: • 25 ways to SAY NO stro...

Hi Jade, I´ve heard that in wartime communication, "Roger" came to represent "R" when spelling out a word. "R" is the first letter in "received", used to acknowledge understanding a message. This spread to civilian usage as "ROGER" replaced "received" in spoken usage in air traffic radio. Thanks for your class, excellent.

Thanks alot! The reason, I'm here for: to improove my english!
German, with strong bonds to the english-spoken world.
2 more ideas for a "yes" from my side would be: "I'm okay with that" or, more enthusiastic: "I'm totally okay with that".
    Or is that just me?
About the party and the beer: there is this wonderful story about prof. Nigel Kennedy, wanting to get into a concert hall.
To play. But the doorman didn't know him: "You're a punk. Why do you want go get in here?" "I'm the violinist. It's my show!"
He wasn't let in. (At least: it took some further effort.)
Maybe someone else knows more details? I'd really love to know!
Greetings from the far north of Germany!

In American English, "by all means" is usually a weird response to "can I take the chair?". Its a situationally appropriate response. How many ways is there and how much resource do you need for the menial task of taking a chair? It makes more sense as a response to "should we execute the business deal?" or "should I go the party?".

Let's play it by ear does NOT mean no in Australia it means that you are going decide what you are going to do later. Example
"What time should I pick my children up"
    "Let's play it by ear"
(I'll tell you later when they want to be picked up)

    • @christophersellwood7483
      @christophersellwood7483 4 года назад

blood phoenix541 yeah it doesn’t mean no in England as well, your explanation perfectly explains how you would use it. I have never said it to mean no. I only say it to mean that I am unsure right now but we’ll figure it out as we go along or later. I am confused by what she means...
