I'm a public-school teacher. Kids are not getting an education, either skill wise or morally. It's a sad place and 80% of parents don't really care. They aren't engaged and they constantly complain when you try to correct their child for not having manners, etc. They just want little Johnny to have an easy path through school and to be allowed to run free without learning boundaries. I have 3 years left to retirement. I hope I make it without choking some moron administrator. The administrators are taking "wokeness" to crazy levels. You are doing the right thing for your child. We will live in a much less prosperous country in the next 10-20 years (whenever we go broke from printing money we don't have). China, all of Asia and much of Europe are actually educating their kids and ours are being left in a position where they won't have the skills to compete in the world economy. Most kids in our nation learn to read decently well, but they have horrible communication skills (written and verbal) and math skill. It's so sad that our leaders don't have the courage to speak up instead of just pandering for votes. America is not the greatest country on earth anymore (as a whole). Our people are mostly spoiled, self-absorbed and feel entitled; our leaders are either too stupid to know it or lack the courage to speak to the problems we have. 20% of Americans are still the best people on earth, but we are on a sinking ship. God Bless You all. Educate your child so she will have the skills to survive and prosper.

Absolutely 1000% true and accurate prediction of what will be coming down the road for this nation and its citizens. We can hardly compete in today's marketplace and can only imagine what will happen when this crop of kids get to be middle age and they don't have the skills to be competing internationally!!! They're not all going to be reality TV stars, social media influencers, RUclips stars etc!!!! The companies in this country will collapse from lack of skilled workers at all levels and this will make those companies fail in the marketplace!!!

I know how hard sobriety can be, I had black outs nightly and lost everything except my job. My personal Manager picked me up from jail and drove me 4 hours to a VA hospital rehab in Pittsburg PA. He was My Guardian Angel he knew this was not who I was and by the grace of God tried to save me. I have been strait and sobor for more than 30 years now and getting close to retire. My Wife and I have been planning for a couple years now to sell our home and live the RV boondocking life. We aren't new to camping at all and love it. We are looking forward to our Journy and thanks to people like you, I feel confident our journey will be great. I am great at fixing things and have completely remodeled our home, increasing its value by more than 100 grand. I will install a solar system myself in the Class A that will make us 100% self-sufficient and never need to plug in. Thank you for sharing a small part of your life with us all. God Bless.

This is why I continue to choose the RV Odd Squad. Y'all are real, transparent, whether in service to God or toward others.
The Lord takes us through seasons (Ecc 3), with His purpose for us, in His wisdom and plan. The more we let go of our plans and simply say; "God, what would you have us do?", the more we grow, that is, our heart longing more for what He wants for us rather than what we want for ourselves. This is where y'all are at & it shows.

I want to come up and see you guys one day. I’m going through a hard time right now my wife has helped me so much been right by my side through this whole thing. I’ll tell you what happened. I had a a bad stomach ache couldn’t eat so my wife took me to the doctor they checked me out ran a scan on me and told me I had cancer stage 4 that I only had 2 years to live. We were lost didn’t know what to do we went to different Dr. To see what they say I finely talked to Stanford and told them I just needed a chance so they took over and put me on chemo 12 chemo treatments it was the hardest time in my life. Lost over a 100 pounds almost died ended up in the hospital then I started getting better the Dr that told me I only had 2 years to live changed his mine said I was doing good and the cancer was shrinking now I’m on a different chemo. Tuesday I talk to Stanford I just did a pet scan so Tuesday is a big day for me I find out if I get to have my surgery to take out what’s left of the cancer I have faith in god I have started praying before I go to bed me and my wife. So I’m hoping everything goes good and one day I can buy a RV and head up to see you guys love and respect for you guys

The part where you said, " Drinking over family," made me tear up because my ex-boyfriend walked out on me because he chose to drink and gamble over our relationship and as you said about losing everything you had come to love. He lost that and the blessings God put in his life and God gave him a chance to be a better man. He once said I would be his greatest loss. It has been a year and a half and my heart aches every day. But like you Mercedes, I didn't want to watch him destroy himself. My guess is, where ever he is now, he is probably drinking himself to death knowing what he lost and gave up. because he couldn't give up the drinking and gambling addiction. He wanted what he never had before, he said, and he had that in me, he said also and threw it away for the Alcohol Demon. I told him we needed to stay in prayer, and keep our armor strong to fight the demons, he agreed, but he was not a strong enough man to follow through with daily prayer and I couldn't do it alone. It didn't have to be this way. Thank you for your story and the happy ending.

I didn’t know what a narcissist was but after things started coming to light, I could see how I was being manipulated and how he had set the stage to destroy me when his lies were uncovered. Your testimonies so touched my heart! Our church has a meeting called “Celebrate Recovery”. Alcohol had been an on and off problem for me. I’m 71 and thanking God it’s lost its appeal. My hubby and I have an RV that has become a nightmare. $30,000 in repairs the past 9 years. We moved from CA to SW Missouri 9 years ago. The weather and humidity wrecks havoc on our RV. 2005 Itasca Sunova Class A 34’ RV with 3 slides. The floor plan is awesome. We’ve had her 19 years. At 71 years old, and the weather here, it’s getting to be not worth having it. Money pit. It’s on its 3rd roof. Winnebago originally had a poor design for the roof. Held on by “clips”! The winds in the mid west tore the roof off to the point where the bathroom ceiling fan was hanging over the side of the RV! Thank you for sharing! Jesus is Lord!

Your story is uplifting. Marriage is work and relationships go through good times and bad. Unfortunately many people married when they shouldn't have and the foundation of love isn't there to get them through the bad times, hence the evergrowing divorce rate. I've been married almost 31 years, but it's been work, is still work. Your story will help people, especially those with addictions or who are in recovery. Thanks for sharing and God Bless on whatever you do in the future. I lost a sister to alcoholism, and the family found out way too late because of all the lies and fake illnesses she made up to hide the alcoholism. Reach out to loved ones if you find yourself drinking round the clock because it leads to death. She was way too young to die. Truth.

My husband and I are making the transition. We are downsizing from a 3300 square foot home to a class a motor home. I am a public school teacher and he is a towboat captain. We can’t up and leave to full time RV, but we are looking forward to making that a future goal. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching your journey. We watch a ton of RUclips videos of full time RV families to get our head wrapped around what we are about to set our new sights on. Bless you for being the awesome parents that you are to Sage. I was drawn to you because of your viewpoints and experience in the RV world. I NEVER comment on people’s RUclips channels. I subscribe if I believe you have something to offer to this world. Y’all have experience and you seem to be genuine and real. With that said, and with my faith in God as you have, I think it is important to say that public education is not ALL that bad. There are districts that are better than others and it is important that you find a district that is compatible with what your child’s needs may be. Yes, I am full aware of some of the things that public school systems lack. But please know…there are amazing teachers out there, working every single day in the public school system, spending way more time with their students than they get to spend with their own children. As a public school teacher, I give so much of my family and personal time working on lessons and contemplating what I can do to help a child. Work doesn’t stop at work. I bring my job home with me every single day. I pray for you and Sage. I pray for her and you to be in the greatest environment that is conducive to helping you and her be the best that you can be, the happiest. I would love to meet you someday. Your genuineness is refreshing and contagious. I just wouldn’t be a good school teacher if I didn’t share what life is like in our community as you share what life is like in your community as well. God bless you and your family. I am so happy that this endeavor you have been placed in is bringing joy and happiness to you, and that you are sharing that joy with others to help build this community of faith, family, and friends working towards a common mission.

There's a *Wow!* and a *How?* in every relationship. John is definitely the *Wow!* And Mercedes is the best kind of *How?* Grounding. Supportive. Not critical or disrespectful (The relational fatal mistake too many make. See _Love & Respect_ for evidence of respect as man's greatest need.)

I'm not sure when we can afford another trip like that. If we go anywhere, it will be within a 200 mile radius based on fuel cost. God bless. Can't wait to hear from y'all again

Smart! We are 71 and enjoyed our class A rv for 10 years when we lived in CA. CA you can pretty much use your rv year round. 9 years ago we moved to southwest Missouri and that was pretty much the near end of rv’ing. $30,000 In repairs. Plus you can only use them MAYBE 6 months out of the year. A lot of upkeep and about $1,000 a year for insurance.

Oddly enough - My wife and I started watching you after we started RV. But we went the opposite way. We sold an epic home to buy the smallest RV you can think of (Total Cost $3200). It was a challenge because we did not have to go backwards. The challenge was to live in it for one year and then buy bigger (or a home). Three years later - we bought a bigger RV, a home in another State, land in a different state, and are currently parked at our daughter's (Her and her husband are building an RV Park). I LOVE IT. We have been watching you (until you guys gave up the RV) for information about what to do. It has been fun.

You guys are doing the right thing! This year we have had to cut back on many of our travel plans because of the current situation in our country (trying to find a safe way to word this). I have an idea for Thunder Canyon, are you guys planting a veggie garden of any kind? You could make it like a community camping garden. Whoever camps there can help take care of it and also eat from it. Many communities are actually considering doing that this year because of what is going on. You could do the same thing. Pick things easy to grow there and that don't require tons of extra work. And grow lots of that. Any food will probably come in handy as things progress this summer. Stay safe! We are praying for you guys!!!!!

I have 1 month to sell almost all my stuff and bounce out of my house for 20+ years in North GA. The excitement for doing this left as soon as I bought the RV. Jon still has that addictive personality. He became addicted to the idea of full time RVing. Then he became addicted to building this channel. Then he became addicted to the idea of a safe place from the ills of the world. Then he became addicted to the idea of a campground redoubt. Whatever Jon locks his radar on, he becomes obsessed with. The reality of owning and operating a large investment has caught up to him. No one will manage Thunder Canyon like you guys and that reality has set in. High performing people have some addiction issues. The challenge is directing that energy to something positive while using caution to not overdo and falling on substances to use to excess as some sort of stress relief. Work a program and use it to recognize that we dont have the ability to correct ALL THINGS. There is a higher power than each of us in this and respect for that arrangement is humbling and necessary to good health.

Kudos for rejecting the government indoctrination school system. I've noticed a trend where many fulltime RVers get out of the lifestyle within 3-5 years. They often buy property and go back to being part-timers or weekend warriors. After 4 years on the road I'm doing something similar. I bought property in SD and spend the warmer months there and the colder months on my leased RV site in Arizona. But I hope to make it out to Thunder Canyon one of these days.

My mom died when she was 42 from alcoholism. I was 16, and my brother was 12. It was not a stable lifestyle before or after her death. My brother's dad (also an alcoholic) gave him up to the state. My brother had many negative experiences with foster parents and social services. My dad was a severe addict who had me move down to Mexico with him - but, later, he was kicked out of Mexico and left me behind. I managed to find my way back up to the states at 17. I was blessed with excellent foster parents for the few months before I was 18.
My brother and I are now in our mid-60s. My brother struggled with alcoholism most of his life, but he's doing okay now. I drank once in a while when I was much younger, but my need to be aware of my surroundings has always been stronger than my need for a buzz.
God blessed me with a college education, decent jobs, and Bruce, my husband of 36 years, and his family. Life hasn't been perfect, but that's "life." It's a heck of a lot better than when I was a teen and young adult.

John, the fact that you recognize that you had hit bottom twice is what we call a miracle, plus that you didn't end up in one of the three places all of us can. As a recovering alcoholic with 35 years now I feel so grateful for the time. I still work a program to this day. I don't take my sobriety for granted at all. I know the I am the only one that can end it.
I now have four children all grown and six grandbabies. Plus my rock that I have been married to for 37 years. This next year I retire and we are going to start full time rving and traveling.
We have a small business that we are taking with us. We do custom vinyl cutting, hats, jackets, tshirts and business promotional products.
Our plan is to take a 43' toyhauler and put the business in the back. We have already purchased our HDT and Smart car so the next thing is a Grand Design Momentum 398mr.

    53 seconds in…..
    I’m gonna say “I knew it” 👍
    And here’s why…….
In an earlier video y’all told about how the RV experience kinda forced you to work together through any frustration or anger toward each other for a common and necessary goal, even though it was usually as banal as backing in, hooking up or driving away
I had a rush of insight at the time and just felt that you would “master” the physical & emotional lessons of RVing apply them to life, and move toward more challenges
Obvs getting Thunder Canyon to this phase was in itself a huge directional change
You both continuing to move forward together, stronger & into new challenges-
My guess is that searching for more lands-looking at possible partners, administration and mostly a growing child will form where you go & what you do
The Lord (and the Odd Squad) will be with you
    22:57 🥹🥲☺️*Lords Prayer
32:01 sit tight in place 👍 & the place you happen to be?
Ider Al. seems to be a community that would reach out to help one another embracing similar values.

Then we will NEED help getting it going again.
THAT'S WHERE YOU WILL BE ABLE TO HELP. The money is a small amount for what we can learn.
Sorry for the ramble, I don't get out much.
      Love and hugs

Y'all are awesome! I happened upon your videos and started watching your journey within your first few months - living my dream through you! I watched the RV Odd Squad first meeting at the pool and was really wishing I could have been there. Having zero experience in this industry but containing an excited heart full of hope, I very much hope to join you all at Thunder Canyon. Keep being REAL! That's what we appreciate.

I get the scary part. My small travel trailer is my only home. I’ve been so unsure of many things since my spouse suddenly died of heart attack and left me with nothing but debt. I love my little camper home but it’s been so expensive with multiple repairs even though it’s new 2021 model. Waiting 14 weeks for a part I need hasn’t been easy. I know God has a plan for me somewhere. You are such a blessing. I know tougher things coming. Have no idea how I’m going to get through it but I keep praying and trusting one day at a time.

Thanks for your stories about your recovery, guys, it's great to hear your achievements. I'm an addictions nurse based in a detox unit in Liverpool, England. I've heard your story so many times over the last ten years, unfortunately, I haven't heard many successful recoveries in that time. 😔
I'm new to your channel, I love your frankness and honesty. I've got a Ford campervan and love to watch your adventures.

Thanks for being open. I'd have to say both of you are entrepreneurs and if you don't have several irons in the fire at the same time, life would be boring for you. I don't think Thunder Canyon will be your last adventure. Entrepreneurship is a gift that allows some fortunate people the ability to accomplish the impossible. Is it a curse? Certainly at the beginning of an adventure and there can be plenty of stomach churning and sleepless nights. The "curse" can be very rewarding! Wishing both of you continued great success.

You are still full time just not inside an RV. You now are full time camp ground services. It's the next step naturally . Everything you learned in an RV full timing is an educational experience that directly relates to running Thunder Canyon and future campgrounds . You have to crawl before you walk , walk before you run . Now you are running ! God is controlling the track you are on. Bless you both ! Stay on track and watch the future be blessed with all that God can give . Your recovery is a daily job . Jon and Mercedes are not quitters or lazy .
Your hard work both personal and professional has been a beautiful journey . It has been so uplifting and wonderful to watch . Thank You !

my husband and I have been married 36 years, he is an alcoholic he has been dry 36 years. I never did drink, I told him I could never marry him because he drank, timing was right he stopped and 6 months later we were married. We were full time for over 5 years we just bought a house in Tn but the times have changed so we stopped. We never would have sold everything one day and went full time. Life is Wonderful!

Moving forward , I'm 72 years old and I just purchased my first RV 2 weeks ago and will be picking it up any day now between
6-2-22 --- 6-8-22 I have also watched hours and hours of RV videos per week for the past five years and fell in love with it all and you guys in the past 2 months ,
    I purchased a pretty clean 1995 -
32' Damon escaper 5th wheel with rear kitchen middle living room with one large slide that covers couch and dining area, I show my sister the RV section in the store name and off every single thing and she said boy you must have really studied it a lot and she's right I told her all from videos. ❤️😂

You two deserve to be happy. As more of your past is revealed, the honest and humble revelations give us a glimpse into that which connects all of us: you are human. Your struggles are our struggles. Recovering addicts sometimes work incredibly hard in order to keep the monster at bay. This might help explain why John is in constant motion.
8:50 "We started to heal as a couple" by watching RV YT videos. So just the concept of RVing helped save/preserve your marriage. Providence.
First time RV buyers can watch your videos and get educated on your blueprint for success in all phases. You did your job well. You did it together and should be proud.
I would suggest small trips. Take a week , go somewhere, take a chicken, hilarity ensues, get videos=)

After 5 years of family vacations in a travel trailer as a single Dad, I retired 3 years ago & began living in a new TT on a beautiful lake in the awe inspiring CA mountains fulltime. Life & opportunities are ever changing as we grow and our plans and goals often need to be adjusted accordingly as yours did for your marriage, your health, your child's needs and now the purchase of an old RV park that requires your time, effort and presence. Your courage, energy and desire to give back is commendable and why Hashem brought all of us into His world. Wishing you all much joy, continued healing and success. I've learned in my life of many challenging trials and successes, that not much that is really worth it, ever comes easy, and your journey is more evidence of this saying. Boruch Hashem, there is no copyright on that saying, and Mercedes, please feel free to add that one to your tool box of life's truthful & wise sayings. One last one that I think applies here that I have posted on my fridge, “When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us.”
    ― Helen Keller.
Thank you for your transparency & vulnerability in your videos that remind the rest of us that our RVing mistakes are quite common and offer great lessons to grow from as individuals, while serving Hashem & His Children. All the best, Hillel

Mercedes, John, Sage, and yes, chickens too - you are all so refreshingly honest, you are very much appreciated, thank you for such a great video! Agree with what you are doing and your reasons for doing it, you make me feel that there is hope for the world yet! Can't wait to join you at Thunder Canyon.
